The Nugget deserves its Summerland institution status. The rustic, nostalgic ambiance is a window into its past with hunting trophy's and old photographs adorning the walls. Jennifer was our server on a holiday weekend and she catered to the local crowd and tourists alike as if each of us were her only table. She apologized for the wait but there was no need because we had a great experience. I can't believe we had not visited the Nugget until now because we love the quiet beach across the road. After our beach walk we were looking for some drinks and an early meal to keep the beautiful day going. We ordered the full rack of ribs and tri tip French dip to accompany hubby's cold beers and my tall pomegranate spritz. Both meals were so flavorful and the ribs were so tender they fell off the ribs. My tri tip with au jus was also well seasoned and prepared. For our sides, we had salads which were equally fresh & well dressed and hubby enjoyed the crispy and cheat-worthy onion rings. We are Loonnnng time customers of The Nugget. This is one of our absolute Go to places. Sadly, the last several times we've noticed a decline in the quality of the food. The fajitas seem to be prepackaged and just heated up. The chicken in the salads also seems to be prepackaged with fake grill marks, definitely not cooked fresh in house. This prompted us to just get a burger, and the meat quality isn't even close to what they served in the past. Again, it seemed prepackaged and low quality. Also, you had the best pork chop in town and that's also changed. Why the shortcuts? Is it because you've opened other locations and are short staffed of your original quality chefs? These are noticeable changes to your loyal locals. Please bring back the high quality and the cooked in house options. read more

This restaurant appears to be a classic old school hang out. It's very fun inside, with old photos and game heads hanging on the walls. The service was very friendly and attentive. They make a good martini, and at first I thought it was very small but then they returned with the rest of the shaker to keep the martini cold, so that was fun! We started with the potato skins, and they were really good! Haven't had those in forever. For my main course I had the wagyu smash burger with onion rings. Both were delicious and perfectly cooked. Two people had the ribeye and the fourth had the lamb chops. Everyone was very happy with their food, and the prices are very reasonable. Meh. Had a chopped salad and one of the apple pieces still had the sticker on it (like supermarket fruit has). A third of the sticker was cut off and on another piece, which I must have eaten. It won't hurt me, but....that kind of sums up the entire experience. It's clean, service is good, I finished my salad- but it's all uninspired autopilot stuff. Old school and not in a good way. Service was outstanding. It was really busy but the hostess did a great job finding us a table. I'm a big fan of Buffalo Wings and I can see why these wings are so highly recommended. We arrived for some birthday brunch right when they opened. We sat at a booth and the server came to get our drinks. He gave us some time to discuss the menu amongst ourselves and decide what we'd order. I'd never ordered Eggs Benedict and was feeling a bit bold. My friend ordered the omelette with sourdough toast. They have a brunch menu and brunch drinks. Unfortunately, this location didn't have the amazing chilaquiles like the Goleta location but it was all right. We went in unannounced and received a command performance. Started with a delicious Santa Fe Salad, split with fresh chicken, jicama, roasted corn, peanuts, and crisp apple in an incredible dressing. Followed by a Double Smashburger, the best I've ever had--perfectly smashed crispy burgers, dripping with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and 1000 Island dressing. We were in Summerland and wanted something to eat. We wandered into the nugget. You truly are stepping back a little bit in time. The walls are covered with photos license plates, even a saxophone reserved for President Clinton and a photo of him eating there. You find posters of Ronald Reagan and photos of him eating there. The food is hamburgers, seafood salads chili I ordered Patty melt on great rye bread and with an amazing amount of french fries. It was about 16 or $17. My friend had a hamburger with fries for 13 so extremely reasonable they will be opening a new location in Carpinteria soon about a month from now And I can't wait to try it. Our service was very good quick and friendly parking is on the street and after your lunch, I suggest walking and seeing the various antique stores, our galleries and brand new bookstore called godmothers, which was fantastic. read more

I didn't know about this little strip of shops off Lillie Ave in Summerland. But Yelp, you led me here for a burger. The nugget is a bar with inside dining and an outdoor patio in front. I came in a Saturday afternoon and the bar was packed and several inside tables were full. I waited at the host desk as I wasn't sure if I had to notify someone that I wanted to sit outside. The hostess came along and lead me outside. I was immediately helped by my server that took my order and brought me water quickly. I ordered the Ortega Chili Pepper Jack Burger and I added sweet potato fries. The food was perfect! The sweet potato fries were hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They served them with ranch; which I love because I usually have to ask for ranch at other places. The burger was easily one of the best burgers I have ever tried. It was grilled juicy, flavorful with slight pink in the inside. I loved the massive chili pepper that was sliced in half on top of the cheese. The only thing that made this experience a 4 was that my server not once came back to check on me or the table next to me (he was also their server). I had finished my water halfway through my burger and would have liked more and after waiting for about 15-20 min of being done with my meal, I flagged down the hostess to ask for a to-go box and that I wanted to pay my check. I am not sure what happened there with the server. Maybe he was on break but it was disappointing to not have someone check on me. I would still recommend this place and I would still come back because the burger was epic. But I hope that the servers would up their game a bit. read more

Showed up excited to try the place and on St Patrick's day 45 minutes before closing we were told they couldn't or wouldn't serve us even though they were taking others orders and serving tables and people at the bar. I was working in the area on Saturday 3 /7. Was really hungry, and I wanted a good burger. I ordered a burger to go with a side of coleslaw and a root beer. For $20.00 the burger didn't come with cheese unless I paid extra. The meat looked horrible like it been in the freezer for a long time. After 2 bites I through it out . Sad to say a Mickey D regular burger has more taste. There was no utensils to eat the coleslaw, so the hole meal was a throw away! Many many years ago I stopped at the Nugget in Summerland and tried their Bloody Caesar. It is by FAR my favorite, and I literally stop every time I go by the Nugget on the 101 - whether that's driving up the coast, down the coast, or both. I've enjoyed the food, and the atmosphere - even had my 50th birthday here ... Came here on New Years Eve with the hubby. We love the decor and the food! Awesome looking cowboy bar with animal heads on the way. The bar was awesome with extensive spirits. The food was so good and great portions. I got the steak and my husband got the ribs. The ribs were so tender they fell off the bones. The mash potatoes were so flavorful and the veggies still had a bite to them and so much flavor. Would recommend for anyone whether with friends or kids to come here. Out of all the options the Crunch Burger stood out the most! And I wasn't disappointed! We actually initially wanted to go to a different spot but this place was open and looked just as good, and now we're glad we came. Absolutely best chili cheeseburger I've ever had. The chili has chunks of chuck roast like meat in it. So delicious chili on its own. Then, combine that with fresh raw onions, cheddar cheese and a perfectly cooked hamburger with a little bit of pink to it. I had mine served with sweet potato fries (just a little bit of an extra cost) and ranch dressing for dipping. The Nugget is also very dog friendly so I was able to sit at their outdoor tables, and still get excellent, friendly and attentive service. We were excited to find this local dive bar/old school restaurant right down the street from our vacation rental, however we were very disappointed in the service. The bartender that served us was RUDE. She was annoyed that I politely asked for another glass of water. She actually said to me, "Well, I had already poured you one but you are the one that left it at the bar." Wth! Rude. We ordered our very expensive premium cocktails at bar and then asked to be moved to the patio, we asked the hostess if this was ok. Unfortunately I did not have enough hands to carry 3 glasses outside with me. I didn't think it was going to be such a big deal. It was quite ridiculous. And just for that I would NEVER recommend this place. Every other place we went to in the SB area had a lovely wait staff that cared about their patrons... obviously this place does not. read more

So here's my review take it however you want. My mom just came home to Thousand Oaks from a 2 day vacay with her friends in Santa Barbara. They went for lunch at The Nugget today. She came home with a to go box with half a sautéed trout and some coleslaw in it. She offered it to me. I ate it for dinner. I barely heated it and ate it for dinner. It was the best fish I've had in a long time. The cole slaw was the perfect side to it. It was freakin delicious! And it was a hand me down, leftover meal! We gave The Nugget another shot the other night only to be disappointed again. We were seated right away on a Saturday night and our waiter was terrific, but the food was not. I ordered the chicken nuggets and chose the vegetables and salad as sides. The chicken was good, but there was a piece that was way over cooked and inedible; why even bring it out on the plate? The vegetables had no taste and the salad was dry. My mom ordered the Cobb Salad and she actually thought they brought her the wrong salad, because there was hardly anything on it. When she asked the waiter, he said it was tossed (only two little pieces of egg?); we were not impressed. My Oma ordered the steak sandwich medium rare and said it was more medium.
