Slight downgrade from last year... My fiancé and I stayed here for one night while attending Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest. You can't beat the location. Easy walk- which is a must! So why the downgrade? Well, the room wasn't as nice as last time. Wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom and there weren't any slippers this time. The staff was a mixed bag. Last year, everyone we encountered was super friendly. Smiles all around. This year, hit or miss. Morning staff didn't seem to be friendly. Their complimentary breakfast is a nice touch. It ends at 10am and then checkout is 11. There's enough offered to start your day. The pros outweigh the cons. 4 stars. read more

Front desk was very nice. However the room kinda stunk, the bathroom flooded every time you showered, the wall paper is falling off, there's no fans in the bathroom. We had our key in the light and the cleaning person took it. Both treadmills in the gym don't work. One is stuck on incline and the other one the speed won't go up from 1mph. October is a beautiful months for weddings and Paso Robles vineyards are dream places for wedding ceremonies. We were invited to attend a friend's wedding and we chose The oaks hotel for its reasonable price and close distance to the vineyard shuttle bus pick up spot. This is our first stay here. It is a 3-star hotel. The lobby is inviting. Complimentary tea, coffee, and cookies! Nice touch! A small gift shop with snacks and local attractions brochures. I actually bought three bottles of olive oil to support the local production. Our room is located on the second floor. It's quiet at night. Elevator works well; appreciate the water bottle filing stations by the elevator. Disappointed that my room key didn't work on the door by the elevator. I saw guests soaking in the hot tub by the pool. The room is clean, love the bed! The AC works fine proving comfortable temperature. Bathroom is clean, but the water pressure is too much that we had to turn on the faucet and the shower to adjust the water flow; otherwise it shoots down like garden hoses!! Love the slippers ( first time seeing this in a hotel! Thanks so much!) and the bath robes! Now, the not so good things: There are some stains on the couch; the floor upon entering the room was sticky. Parking was easy. Staffs are friendly. Breakfast was satisfactory. read more

Prior to checking in, you will receive email reminders to complete the check in form prior to your stay. I would recommend you do this to make the process quicker. The hotel is located off of the Hwy 46 exit towards the Fairplex side of the freeway. It's actually very walkable to the Fairplex. I would guess about 3-4 blocks away. The hotel is located in a very isolated part of town and has very low lighting leading up to it. There's a Napa Auto Parts, Grocery Outlet, Carl's Jr. & McDonalds across the street. Driving up gave me an uneasy feeling, but luckily we are in Paso and for the most part, it's safe. I also saw a few RV's parked about a block or 2 down the street. They will put a $100 hold on your card for incidentals. You are given a card (one for each guest) for your breakfast that you will have to show every morning you decide to dine there. It's held right across the check in desk. This used to be their restaurant prior to Covid but has since closed down because they could not afford to keep paying the employees there.. It's buffet style and pretty ordinary. It's ok. I think the Oxford has better breakfast offerings as they can make omelettes on request. Not sure if the quality has gone down or what, but the reviews made it sound like it was fantastic. We had a 1 king bed and the room itself is clean and pretty spacious. There's even a couch in the room. The bed is on the firm side and that's what I like. The sheets are nice and clean and I can smell them. There's a Keurig coffee maker, microwave, fridge and safe. There's also an armoire for your clothes, but there's no lights inside. Definitely could have used the light as it was really dark inside and the room is not very well lit either. The temp can be controlled on the wall or at the unit by the window. My two complaints with the room would be the shower and sink. The shower head had so much pressure that if you stand still for a few seconds, it starts to hurt. The pressure was so great that it would lift up the shower curtain and water would escape and get all over the floor. I did notice that the curtain in the back was missing a magnet to help keep them from flopping around. By the time I was done, the water crept all the way to the toilet and I had to wipe it up. They provide you with soap, conditioner & body wash in a pump. Though they do give you a very small bar of soap. I brought my own soap so that wasn't an issue. The sink probably had some build up because it sprayed water instead of having it flow. I would have complained, but since we will be spending most of our time out, it wasn't too big of a deal. The hotel has 3 floors and there are ice & vending machines at the end of the hallway. For some reason, they don't provide a door hang to let the staff know if you want service or not. Since we didn't have this in our room, the staff knocked on our door in the morning. The hotel is on the older side and you can see it. It will need to go through a face lift in a few years if it wants to stay competitive. Though, when I booked this place, it was one of the cheapest available. There are 4 EV charging stations in the back parking lot. Not sure if you need to register with the front desk first before using. On the first floor by the elevators is a water filling station. That is very nice to have because you need to hydrate if you plan on wine tasting all day. In the lobby, there's also coffee and hot water for your teas available 24/7. Not sure if I would book here again due to the location and dated the hotel looks. Even walking in to the lobby, it already felt cramped. read more

I didn't realize how it was until the morning i tried and tired to call the front desk to complain but no answer. By the time i had to leave i was rush giving me no time to go complain. This is a great place to stay in Paso Robles. We walked to downtown and it took about 20 minutes. Parking is easy in the hotel attached lot. The staff is personable and you see the owners on site. The breakfast is freshly made. It's a buffet with fresh fruit, oatmeal, eggs, cereal, muffins, etc. The hotel is quiet. Rooms are a good size and very clean. I highly recommend this hotel. read more

The Oaks is a nice place to stay while in town. It's not exactly next to downtown but it is down the street from the fairgrounds. They have one of the better breakfast spreads then I'm used to in their little nook. The only thing that caught me off guard was the room lights, I guess you have to keep your room key inside the light switch or else the lights automatically turn off. We left a day early because our stay was unpleasant. Rooms were filthy. Weird poop or blood looking stains in the bathroom. Tv remote felt sticky. Beds were uncomfortable, lumpy and firm and soft in all the wrong ways. Turning sink faucet on sprayed water everywhere because of the weird faucet. Seemed like a water saving faucet with high pressure but low water output, so it sprayed water everywhere when trying to wash your hands or brush teeth. Their water bottle refill near the elevators tasted like mud, the water filter probably needs to be changed. Shower faucet water pressure was so strong it felt like needles, same deal as the sink faucet. Never had a sink make me angry or a shower cause pain so I guess that's a first for me. People walking in and around the hotel seemed sketchy and surrounding neighborhood feels unsafe. I booked our room by calling the hotel but they booked me online through Expedia according to the guy that checked us out. Breakfast was half decent. They wouldn't check us out early "because they would incur a fee" if they did. The guy at the front desk kept trying to make it clear I booked online even though I have phone record of calling their hotel to book by phone. No sir, I didn't like it. Hmmm, what's going on here? New owner or new management? Is the hotel being sold and in a non-maintenance mode? I've been coming here for many years and it's always been great. Less expensive than others in the area and nicely maintained. During the latest visit the room carpets were dirty and stained, towels are worn out, and the bed mattress had a big permanent depression where many bodies have slept for many years. Everything seemed old and shabby. And the price is right up there with the other area hotels. I didn't drive an electric vehicle but all the EV chargers were out of order and the desk clerk said there is no plan to fix them. I'm very sad about this, it's always been my favorite hotel here. Stayed one night after doing some wine tasting in the area. Staff were friendly. The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was included. In addition to dry cereals, yogurt, and juice, there was a steam table with eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes etc. gourmet? No, but there were plenty of choices, and good coffee. We've stayed at The Oaks 2 or 3 times previously. We always felt like it was a good value, especially when traveling with a dog. With this visit we aren't so sure anymore. The Oaks seems like a family run hotel and there are signs that they do try to make the guest experience pleasant. They provide a nice hot breakfast for guests. They had scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and more served up buffet style, along with cold options (bread, cereal, packaged pastries, etc...). In the rooms robes and slippers are provided. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are in refillable containers in the shower (points for being more green) While all of these extras are provided, some of the basics were a miss. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink (but there was in the shower), the carpet was fraying with a hole in it, and there was a ton of little particles all over the floor (clearly our room wasn't vacuumed for our stay). The service at check in and at breakfast was very pleasant, but check out was rather curt and rushed with a younger girl who had put up a service bell while she was somewhere in the back. I informed her about the lack of hot water in the sink and she dismissively said she would "write it down". I asked for a receipt and she said her printer was down and that she would email it to me, which she did not. She could not get rid of me fast enough. 1 Star. We asked ahead of time during booking for a room that is lower level and close to exits due to us having kids and a dog. At check in at 4pm, they proceeded to give us a room 2nd floor that was all the way back at the end of their long halls and claimed it was the only room available. Then we open it and it's not cleaned. We had to haul our kids and dog down to the lobby again for them to give us another room. And to our surprise, that was also not ready either in the same floor. Housekeeping was still cleaning it. The housekeepers were nice & looked like they were trying their best to clean the rooms quickly, but it seems like front desk doesn't communicate with housekeeping. That could have been easily avoided in giving us multiple rooms that were not ready. So for the 3rd time, they upgraded the room, but all of this back and forth really inconvenienced us as we had plans that we were now late to because it took over 30 mins to actually check in! Terrible! A lot of things in this hotel has "out of order signs" the ice machine, vending machine, soda machine, the guest washer/dryer, etc. The pool & hot tub is not clear and not cleaned, debris everywhere. You also get a ticket per person to eat their free continental breakfast. It was hard to tell who was staff from other clients staying there because the staff were in regular clothes and no name tags. Never stayed at a hotel/motel where you have to present a ticket in order to eat. Just no organization in this place. Not due to staff (staff were fine), but management needs to fix things instead of slapping on a "out of order" sign. When checking out, we asked for a receipt and was told that because we booked through a third party, it would cost us $40 if we wanted the hotel to print it for us. The rating for this hotel was 9.0 on hotels .com & booking .com so our expectation was high. This was definitely not a 9.0 rating for us. Never again. read more

First time I've stayed here and I was pleasantly surprised. The room was large, nicely decorated and very clean. The below window a/c was quiet and didn't keep me awake all night (my biggest complaint about in-room a/c). Hallways were busy late, but pretty soundproof. A hot breakfast is offered. This typically means microwaved food. Okay, but not really great. At The Oaks the food was prepared by a person, in an actual kitchen, on a griddle. Eggs scrambled soft, perfectly crispy and juicy sausage links, really nice breakfast potatoes. The selection was typical of what other hotels at this level offer, but more care was taken in the preparation to put them above their competition. When I arrived at the breakfast room, Jim set cloth napkin wrapped silverware at my table and was available to answer any questions. He did a great job making sure folks had a good start to their day. I would absolutely stay in this hotel again when I'm in the area. read more

We stayed here for two nights while we were in town for a concert at Vina Robles. Overall, this place was nice and in a good location! When we're first arrived, the key card systems were down so we were worried we'd have to wait a long time but they got it back up and running relatively quick. The room was big and spacious which I appreciated. We didn't try the continental breakfast, but the dining area looked large and was full of people. I came to Paso for a weekend away. The check in process was smooth and easy. Our room was spacious and clean. The location is a short drive to the downtown area. The free breakfast buffet they offer is one of the best I've had at a hotel. I think we'll definitely stay here again. The price was reasonable for what they offer. They do have a bar inside the lobby as well. They have robes and slippers in the rooms which I loved. Overall I enjoyed my stay and will look into staying here again for my next visit. read more

Last minute booking for a one night place to stay it's ok. It's in the back of some industrial buildings. There us a McDonalds and Carl's Jr near by. The room was outdated and dusty. Oh walking in there was a funky smell of salami and powder fresh. Also there was a pattern of some type of splash on the wall and ceiling, kinda off putting. There was a couch and 2 full beds, enough for 5 people possibly 6, not sureif the couch had a pull out bed. I get using refillable shampoo, conditioners and soap but I don't prefer them. They aren't locked in a container so who knows what people do to it. Bring your own. Continental breakfast is always a nice touch to have so that's why I have it an extra star otherwise would be a 2 star rating. Not a preferred place but will do in a pinch. read more

The hotel itself was fine. Adequate accommodations for a short stay. Rooms be common areas are a bit dated, but are clean and kept in good condition. The breakfast buffet was average. Standard options including hot food, cereals, pastries, etc. staff at the dining area were friendly and personable. Check-In was good, no issues. Check-Out however was not a pleasant experience, not for the process, but for the staff member at the desk who felt it necessary to give her personal opinions on matters not related to the hotel. After noticing the city on my license she asked how it was in Hollywood, I engaged in cordial convo over it and she then spoke poorly about the city, as well as other higher population cities in CA, which was a bit unsettling to hear her opinions that were not based on personal experience but clearly from what she's heard about them. Specifically about how they have gone all down hill and the homeless issues in them. She then chose to interject her personal opinions on the "illegals" - referencing it that way several times. And the proceeded to talk about the Mexicans in Paso R. - I guess she saw an older white man and just assumed his views would be similar and she felt comfortable enough to spew her personal opinions. Very unprofessional! This has turned me off from visiting this property on future visits to the area. Service employees should keep to cordial non-opinionated conversations and never bring their personal/political views into it. I'm there to enjoy a visit, not hear about bigoted opinions. read more

I visited Paso Robles back in February of this year and they were having a 'February special" which came with a free bottle of wine with the room (which was very delicious!). The check-in process was pleasant, the front desk agent was very kind. The room was just okay to sleep in over the weekend, but had very little ventilation, humid (had a specific wet scent), and dark. They provided a nice bath robe in the restroom that we could use during the stay and we tried calling to get the second one for my partner but we weren't able to reach anyone for service despite trying couple times. read more

Vesta and I took a week off and took a trip up the coast and back to Long Beach, because we were celebrating the fact that she didn't have breast cancer (she had some worrisome spots, but they turned out not to be what we worried they might've been) and the fact that opportunity might be knocking in Paso Robles. The opportunity didn't pan out and more often than not they don't, but if you don't open the door when they knock, you'll never know. However, on the upside we discovered several wineries, the Oaks Hotel, Clock & Dagger wine and just about the best downtown in America. As for the C & D wine, you can only get it from the winery, but it's worth the hassle (google it). And then there's the downtown. We spent a day and a half just wandering around there and it felt like we'd taken a step back in time. The place is full of friendly people shopping in and working in touristy stores, restaurants and tasting rooms (one of which was the Cloak & Dagger one) and tourists galore. If you're a wine lover, Paso has to be on your list and even if you're not, you should stop by if you're traveling on 101, you won't be sorry you did. Seriously, if you don't like Paso, I'll eat my foot. And if you do stop by to sample wine and tour off downtown, you might wanna spend a night or two or, better off, three at a friendly, family owned hotel, like the Oaks. We got there late in the afternoon and after a fast and efficient check in, we were out the door and off to visit some of the over 300 wineries Paso has to offer. We only managed two that first day. And we thought we'd take a nap when we got back to the hotel, then open a bottle of wine and maybe watch TV. But we love bars and the hotel had one, so we decided to go down for a quick drink. However, the drink turned out to be more than one, because we started talking to Vaneska, the bartender and Sherry, the girl who checked us in, and three hours later, we had the complete lowdown on Paso, plus the owners of the hotel make wine. I'm not a serious wine person like Vesta is, but I do know it was delicious and better than the forty dollar wines we bought at the two wineries we'd visited earlier (we didn't discover Cloak & Dagger till our last day in Paso). Also, Vaneska has a signature drink you can only get at the bar at the Oaks. If you go there, just ask her for a tangerine martini. I know, I know, it sounds weird, but you'll love it and if you don't, I'll eat my other foot. The hotel doesn't have a full on restaurant (I believe they closed it during the Lockdown, but I could be wrong) however, they do have just about the best breakfast buffet we've ever had in a hotel. Sadly, I'm on kind've a diet, so I shouldn't've eaten so much, because I gained three pounds in three days. So it turned out to be a good thing they only serve breakfast between 7:00 and 10:00, because otherwise that three pounds might've been six, because I like to eat, hence the diet, which that breakfast buffet blew right out the window. So there you go, friendly and knowledgable people. Great breakfast. Clean and comfortable rooms (see the photo of Vesta in our room), bartender with a signature drink and wine as good or better than any you can find in Paso at the bar and only at their bar--all reasons you should pick the Oaks. And even if you don't spend the night, you should stop by the bar for the tangerine martini and the wine. And who knows, you might just buy a bottle or two of the wine. Sheesh, I wish I could remember what that wine was (actually there were two different ones, both reds and both great). We stayed here two nights in April for a trip to Paso Robles. We had a room on the first floor. This motel is mediocre. The best parts are free parking and coffee/tea in the lobby. We didn't use the breakfast because we didn't want to wait for service and the room is cramped. We preferred a buffet. The staff was fine. Nothing spectacular. The building looks old. We spend a lot of time in our room and it was small. We couldn't open our first floor window to get fresh air. The motel is in a bad area. It's next to a Tractor Supply Co. store with fast food nearby. We saw a lot of homeless people lingering in the area and that made us uneasy. Paso needs more nice hotels. We'll definitely go somewhere else because this didn't work for us. read more

My husband and I stayed here last week (by ourselfs) and this weekend with our kids...both visits were amazing!! Nigel helped us both times and was so accommodating and nice!! This last time there was a little mix up with a new girl accidentally checking someone else into our room so Nigel and Sherry worked super hard and got us a room that would fit our family and a bottle of wine for our troubles! Very nice hotel. Excellent value. I always appreciate in room coffee. But not only did they have coffee. They also had a microwave and fridge. So helpful when you have a takeout box from a restaurant you want to eat later. The rooms were comfortable. breakfast was very good. Nice, hot breakfast with eggs and cereal options. Quality of the coffee in the lobby and the breakfast was good! My only complaint is the extent to which they use room deodorizer/air freshener. It was rather intense and often gives me a headache. I was on the 12th day of a 14 day solo golf tour through the state. After golfing nearby I became quite ill that evening. I ended up staying at this hotel an extra 3 days. The staff, notably Kim, Sherry, Amanda and Julie went out of their way to support me and provide for me. Kim even offered to go out and pick up food for me on her own time. Needless to say I am forever in their debt and they will remain in my thoughts as the guardian angels they proved themselves to be. Thank you ladies. read more

Overall a good budget spot when winery hopping in Paso Robles in a good location close to downtown. Room- 3/5 Decent sized room with pretty comfy bed, the only main issue was that, as shown in the photos, there isn't much privacy since there is only a see through curtain blocking the window making it hard to sleep in as well. Everything else was fine Amenities: Breakfast Buffet 4/5- Got 2 complimentary passes for this, standard breakfast buffet with eggs, bacon, coffee, cereal, bagels, etc Pool N/A- Didn't use the pool but it was open- looked a bit on the smaller side and mostly filed with families with small children Service- 2/5 Night front desk lady was rude when I was asking for a bottle opener for my wine by insisting it was in my room when I thoroughly checked. While staying for our daughter's wedding weekend, May 23-26th 2025 the power went out and hot water went out as well as the phone not working multiple times prior to the trip!!! We had somewhere to be the next morning and had to shower in another nearby hotel. I had to walk down three flights of stairs in the dark with my luggage with a blown out knee. I was not offered any help nor a refund for what happened!! When calling the hotel they say you have to email upper management. There is no phone number!! This is so unacceptable!!!! This is our second time staying here! We have been coming to Paso for over 10 years and The Oaks Hotel is the BEST HOTEL EVER! Beautiful rooms, complete with robes and slippers, Keurig coffee maker, full breakfast in their restaurant, a tea and coffee area with a chocolate cookie available in the lobby! There is a pretty full bar in the lobby where we were able to purchase another great margarita at an incredibly low price! Served by a very sweet gal who was so friendly! Both times we have stayed here the room cost is barely more than the flea bag places we have stayed in the past! It is walking distance to every store and eating establishment you would ever need!! We arrived at late hour. Gifted a bottle of wine...nice surprise. Maybe because close to Valentine's? Nice room and accommodations. Came back a week later because such a newer, nice, clean place with very nice staff and accommodations. read more
