A charming boutique hotel with exceptional service from start to finish. While the room could benefit from USB-C outlets (bring your own adapters), everything else exceeded expectations. Guest services went above and beyond for my wife's birthday--arranging beautiful flowers from a local florist, adding a lovely bottle of wine, and including a handwritten note. Each day, the front desk thoughtfully checked in to see how her birthday weekend was going. The location is ideal--just off the town square with easy access to restaurants and shops--and valet parking was a welcome bonus. Truly hard to find anything not to love. read more

My wife and I just spent a few days in Paso Robles for our honeymoon and stayed at The Piccolo for the duration of our visit. The hotel is located right on 12th street and is in the heart of the downtown park area which was great for us because it afforded us with so many options of tasting rooms, restaurants and bars. Granted it was off-season but we also had no issues with parking right up front which was also convenient. The room itself was a very nice room. Upon walking in, we noticed a dry bar along with a large wine fridge which was great because we brought some wine with us and had planned on purchasing wine on our trip as well. The bedroom had large ceilings, a nice chandelier and a large shower and bathroom which was divided with a barn door style sliding door. The French doors faced into the interior courtyard and I imagine would offer great airflow into the room had it been a warmer time of year. Just down the hall from our room was a bottle filling station which I really appreciate as someone who drinks a ton of water. The hotel overall was beautifully decorated, well maintained and had a very warm feel to it. We walked into the lobby and felt right at home. While most everything was great during our stay at the hotel, there were a few things that caught my attention that I feel could've been non-issues. First, the little vanity mirror in our bathroom was very loose and couldn't be positioned because it was just hanging loose on the arm. My wife was able to support it with a hair tie and make it work, but still a small fix that housekeeping or maintenance should've addressed. Second is that there only seems to be one luggage cart for guests to use. When we were packing up to leave, it was nowhere to be seen and after waiting fifteen minutes or so we just carried our stuff to my truck in multiple trips. Lastly, the check-in process left quite a bit to be desired. The person checking us in showed very little interest in assisting us. She didn't offer to go over any of the amenities or hotel events going on nor did she refer us to the business card size reference card in our key envelope with a QR code and WiFi password. I can appreciate that people have off days, but working hospitality at a hotel that isn't cheap to stay in I would have expected a little more than just requesting payment and handing us our keys. One last thing to note is that the hotel charges the full amount of your stay upon check-in. All things considered, if I found myself in Paso Robles again, I would have no reservations about staying at The Piccolo again. read more

Do yourself a favor and save your money, go elsewhere. This hotel is very small, the lobby is also where the wine lounge is and the free breakfast. Free breakfast is not many options, you get more at a Marriott or Hyatt free breakfast than here, not worth it. The room was and shower was small, no bath, and the shower had a rain head which was the worst. I received an email from the hotel and it said to email back with questions which I did and never got a response. I emailed the manager Jordan and never got a response, I even called Sunday and was told I would get a call back and never did. The steakhouse and rooftop bar were closed without much notice after we already booked the hotel. When we checked in and out no one was at the desk just a sign saying they will be back later. Also you get locked out of the hotel from 10pm-7pm and there is no key entry to get back in. Luckily I stayed in the hotel room during check out before 7am and was able to let my husband back in. I had to walk across to the Paso Robles inn to check in and then couldn't go back to the piccolo. Never got the free welcome amenity as stated online. Also the room on my confirmation email was not the same room I was given. Disappointed with the stay and would not come back or recommend this hotel. read more

It was a wonderful one night stay! My boyfriend and I stayed for one night, following a full day of wine tasting :) Upon arrival we were greeted by the concierge, who were both kind! We got to enjoy a complimentary welcome glass of wine at the bar. Brice was our sommelier and gave us a plethora of information regarding the wine world. We learned so much, thank you Brice! The rooms are cozy, modern farm house vibes, and perfect for a relaxing stay. They had welcome biscuit cookies which were so freaking good!!! There was also a handwritten card on the bed, welcoming us in, which is always a nice touch of service. In the morning @ 8am they leave a breakfast box at the door filled with treats! Ours had apples, muffins, bread (from a local bakery), butter, and jam. It was a nice treat! I took off one star because we had requested for a late check out the night before. But was interrupted 2 times by the cleaning staff. There was probably a miscommunication but it was definitely uncomfortable having the cleaning staff walk into our room when we were sleeping haha. Besides that, I would definitely come back. They have an amazing rooftop where we got to spend some quality time together. Totally recommend! read more

This hotel has vastly overcharged us on our credit card and I can't seem to get it fixed. We stayed there 7/25-7/27/25. I pointed out the error while we were there and was assured it would be corrected. Then they charged us AGAIN, making the problem even worse. So as of now, we have been triple charged by this hotel for our stay. WTF. The only charge they should have made at the hotel was for a $114 resort fee. But now I see erroneous "pending charges" on my credit card account for $2098 ($1049 x 2). I may be forced to file a dispute with my credit card company. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this hotel. read more

This is a lovely boutique hotel with a perfect location! The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. I had wonderful interactions with Cammie, Dominique, Sara and Mark, as the lobby bartender the evening of the 4th of July. They all went out of their way when I needed something. The room was beautiful, and sparkling clean! The amenities in the bathroom were the best. I was staying with my Labradoodle, LuLu Vuitton and she was treated like a royal guest. We even made friends in the lobby(see photo). I highly recommend The Piccolo and can't wait to visit again! read more

This hotel so wants to be a luxury 4/5 star, like Hotel Cheval, but unfortunately it falls short on a few key areas that make it NOT worth the price. Predatory pricing -- booking the week before Wine Fest, Hotel Cheval put us on the waiting list and called us with a cancellation. With the same price: $600. The Piccalo also had us on the waiting list and increased the price on us by $300 per night. This took our nightly rate to $900 per night. Unfortunately I said yes to Picallo before Hotel Cheval called. Lacking a soul -- I love staying at boutique luxury hotels. They have character, warmth and a soul. Unfortunately, for The Piccolo it's a stale, slapped together modern farmhouse style that feels generic and lacks personality. Nothing like the rustic European vibe it promotes. False promising of amenities -- on a Wine Fest weekend, the hotel had no rooftop entertainment despite advertising it on their website. They lack a sommelier in their wine bar, despite saying they had one. Their promises were a rouse during our stay. Lacking luxury service -- after notifying the hotel manager, he was powerless in fixing any issues related to price gouging and the other issues noted above. No offer of concessions, nothing. Spending $600-$900 per night one can surely find better options in other parts of California wine country. Even lower priced versions would be more enjoyable and have more soul and specialness than this hotel, IMHO. I hope this helps inform your decision. Good luck, and happy travels! read more

Be aware- this place will cancel your reservation 3 hours before you arrive because they can get a better rate. They literally just canceled our reservation because they were overbooked. Apparently a "reservation" means nothing to them and they don't hold your room if you book through a 3rd party. The manager is rude and not helpful at all. read more

Highlight is the friendly and welcoming front desk staff and the location to downtown. Beautiful lobby area and courtyard. Roof top bar is inviting but no real view of anything spectacular. We were able to check in early which was a plus. As guests we were offered two free wine pours at the roof top bar. Street parking was easy to spot and free. The room was adorable and large. The bathroom is lovely. The barn door to the bathroom, the brick wall surrounding the bed, the chandelier, and the big sliding doors leading to a balcony are beautiful touches. A hair dryer and turbie hair wrap are provided. Great smelling hair products also a plus. The shower is tight. Robes and slippers are also provided. Free bottled water and Keurig coffee provided. Second floor has a nice lounge terrace overlooking the courtyard. Why four stars? The bathroom tile grout was not thoroughly cleaned, the bed was lumpy and sagged on one side, the steamer provided had dirty water from who know how long ago it was used (yuck), one of the wine glasses had a crack. Attention to detail is just so very important! The best surprise was the boxed breakfast hanging at our door in the morning! With all that said--I'd definitely stay here again! read more

This hotel is boneheaded and mismanaged. On my first stay they had no running water for 60% of my stay. The sorry experience was made worse by misinformed staff telling me nonsense. There handling of our situation was extremely frustrating. On my second visit my room was devoid of all bathroom amenities. No soap, no shampoo, no tissues not a thing. It took 2 tries to correct that. For my entire stay housekeeping was erratic not emptying the trash and not replacing complementary canned water or my used towels. The rooms have no desk and they are loud as well. I had noise from above, below and around me. At $500+ a night this does not cut it. read more

Loved this place. Beautiful modern boutique hotel and brand new. Minimal carpet which is great for allergy people like me. There are windows which actually open so you can get fresh air too. I loved this little in, conveniently located in downtown Paso Robles. It was comfortable, the staff was friendly and welcoming, the Caesar salad was delicious. I really liked having a welcome glass of wine to go with the salad, and the complementary eco-friendly bottles of water at no additional cost in the room, plus the tea kettle was a nice touch. The bed was comfortable, and my service dog Ace was treated with special attention. The butter cookies with the welcome note really made me smile. The cookies are so delicious. I could walk across the street to the park and it was lit up still from the holidays, it was just beautiful. I highly recommend this little gem. The inn is also dog friendly. read more

Egregiously overpriced for what is being offered, book elsewhere! Walked into hotel to check-in at 10pm on a Saturday evening, no one was behind the desk to greet us. When a woman walked over she communicated that we almost missed our check-in because they close down at 11pm, mind you it had JUST turned 10pm. I tried to request a late check-out since we checked in so late but was told I would have to check back in the morning. It would have been nice if the staff took the initiative to make a note of our request but she chose not to. The rooftop bar area was pretty, but very overpriced. We were told they were accepting cash only as well which is very odd. Thankfully we had cash on us so we were able to order two drinks for almost $100. The following morning, I asked the front desk, again, about a late check out. I was told that we could check out at 11:30am, 30-minutes later than normal. Mind you, people check out 30-minutes later than normal, WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL, frequently. All in all, $900+ to have a room (with yellow marks and blood stains on the wall) for 12.5 hours. Plays like a southern Italian boutique hotel. Great attention to detail, nice common area and amazing staff. Perfect location. We had 12 (6 couples) for 2 birthdays. Martin (GM) and his team did a wonderful job. Right down to setting up an area to cut cake after dinner and keep the party going. Continental breakfast is perfect. Rooftop bar - excellent (staff up there was a bit junior, a senior barkeep would have been ideal eg: modest pours and would let us split the bill for 6 drinks w 3 cards?) Worst hotel reservation experience EVER!!! I booked this hotel for my husband's birthday. We were planning a birthday trip to Paso Robles. I had made reservations many other reservations for our stay in Paso Robles along with our hotel reservation. The night before our check in the hotel cancelled our reservation with no notice from anyone from the hotel. I never cancelled my reservation so when I got this text I was very confused. I also did not get a call nor voicemail from the hotel letting me know they had cancelled my reservation. I called the hotel multiple times to try to get answers and no one at the front desk knew what had happened with my reservation. They told me they suspected the situation with the fires in San Luis Obispo may have resulted in them cancelling my reservation but this was not confirmed from anyone I spoke with. I also had not received a refund for my reservation. The hotel had cancelled my reservation on their end but I made my reservation via Expedia and that had not been canceled so there was still a full charge on my credit card for my stay. The front desk staff could not help me because they could not get a hold of the supervisor at the hotel. They told me a supervisor would be reaching out to me to explain what happened with my reservation but this never happened. When I later called the hotel back to reach the supervisor they let me know she had already left for the day. I then reached out to Expedia to explain to them that the hotel had abruptly cancelled my reservation with no explanation to me. At first Expedia told me they would have to charge me a $500 cancellation fee but they called the hotel to verify what happened with my reservation. It was a complete shit show trying to fix the mess on my end on the night of my husband's birthday as I had to deal with cancelling all the other reservations I had made in Paso Robles. I wrote the manager from the Piccolo an email that night and she wrote back lying to me saying she had called Expedia asking them to relocate me. Expedia had no such conversation on their end. The Piccolo could have done so many things to amend the situation but they failed every time. It has been an awful experience with the Piccolo. I will never stay here in the future. They have no disregard for peoples plans nor reservations and are dishonest. read more

Second hotel in Paso Robles that claims dog friendly but you can not leave your dogs in the room. So therefore you can not leave the hotel unless your dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE you go. Obviously that is impossible as many restaurants, wineries and pools do not allow dogs on top of the fact it's 80-100 degrees in the summer. So no trip to Paso Robles . Why not charge a fee if guest have an un trained dog or make them Sign that they must vacate hotel if dogs bark and disturb other guests?! ‍ Anyway a warning to anyone traveling up with their dogs that this is another non pet friendly hotel. read more

I am so glad booked this hotel so far in advance. We were coming for the Midstate fair and wanted a cute boutique hotel near downtown. This is so perfect. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown. Walking distance to the free fair shuttle, cute shops and restaurants. They even have a champagne vending machine and a tasting room in the lobby The rooms are equipped with a king size bed that is so plush I wanted to bring it home. It also had an amazing wine fridge, wine glasses and a bottle opener. Robes and slippers were provided too! This hotel shares a pool with another hotel but the pool is small and it was too crowded. It was also 106 degrees so EVERYONE wanted pool time. Bathrooms were nice and big. Shower was a little disappointing as it seemed the water just kind of dropped out but that's the California water conservation crap Front desk staff could have been friendlier but the bellman was awesome and super friendly. They did leave a handwritten note so that really put their service top notch. Just didn't get the warm & fuzzies when we checked in. Parking is wherever you can find some on the street. We will be making this an annual trip and this will be our place to stay! read more

The architect of this hotel did a wonderful job with the outside facade, The balconies are small but enhance the building's presentation. So nice to see a new hotel being built in California's small cities. The staff is friendly and have youthful enthusiasm. Also the free wine is great. The lobby is comfortable and conducive for conversation. The designer, the company responsible for the paint colors, furniture selection and overall room esthetic... sucks. The elements in the room do not harmonize. The drawers and light fixtures (brass on the brick which is so cheap it nearly fell on my head) and rug have a MCM vibe and then a crystal chandelier and barn door come from farmhouse nowhere. The bed is white iron more appropriate for a little girls bedroom. These rooms will not age well. The oversized dresser looks awkward in the small room and it is cheaply made. The veneer is already chipping The coffee maker is a bargain model takes up half the counter and from a previous review there seems to be difficulty cleaning. Water is left in them . Barn doors are unattractive and designers are no longer using them should have put in pocket doors. . The faucet in the bathroom is interesting but functions slowly. The hardware is modern farmhouse but these rooms are small and they are poorly proportioned to the room. They are grey black and oversized. They are trying to look like forged steel. Finally the tile looks like it was installed by child. Tile is uneven and sloppy. so many things about the hotel are good . The location is extraordinary. While the rooms are VERY, VERY nice, the super friendly staff, the "walk to everything location" and the gorgeous rooftop bar are what make The Piccolo special! I know it is a complete coincidence, but every staff member we dealt with had a first name that begin with "M"! I made the reservation with Merridee who was super informative, Marco (head bellman) went out of his way our entire visit to be welcoming and helpful, Marci at the front desk always knew what we needed to know plus always had tokens available for the champagne vending machine :-), and Martin (the director of hospitality) kept everything humming along perfectly. Quite frankly, our only complaint was the limited sky bar hours early in the week... that said, we had it all to ourselves two nights, brought our own bottle of Harmony Vineyards wine and didn't have a single complaint... the view of the town and the sunset is stunning! Decor is outstanding in the rooms and throughout the hotel. We also spent quite a lot of time in the lobby which was adorable. Staff is exceptional and they go above and beyond: Martin, Matthew, Gabriel...if you run into any of these staff members (or anyone for that matter) know you are in good hands. Tasting rooms and restaurants all in walking distance. Found one of my new favorite wines in the lobby (Bushong which is across the street) Will return as soon and I'm able. On my two CA Central Coast road trips I visited Paso Robles twice. The first visit was well-planned and I got to experience the beauty that is Hotel Cheval, but my second visit was quite impromptu all because of a chance to eat at the famous Somm's Kitchen. The Cheval was booked solid yet I wanted a comparable experience. Thank goodness for the Chase UR portal - booked this for 46,963 points and $8.57 for 2 days. The Piccolo is the swanky, millennial-friendly version of the sister property Paso Robles Inn. As such you can also park closer to the Paso Robles Inn or if you're lucky, park right in front of the hotel without worrying about a time limit. For EV car owners there is at least 1 working charging station that offers fast charging. Service and hospitality were top-notch. Everyone ensured that I had a wonderful stay. Since I booked with credit card points (as opposed to booking directly) they couldn't get me the cake + champagne promo. They did make up for it by booking me a last-minute bar table at the nearby Il Cortile. The room is one of the most unique rooms I've stayed in. Two particular things stood out: the presence of a steamer and a WINE FRIDGE. Yes, a *dual zone* wine fridge. Considering that Paso Robles is comparable to Napa in terms of wine country prestige (the bottle prices also reflect this), it makes sense to protect your investment. This was much appreciated as this helped store the wine I got during the second half of my trip. The bed was as comfy but the bed at the Cheval does beat it slightly in terms of comfort. Although their branded pillow was a nice touch as it contained terms that essentially defined the Paso Robles region (also on sale for $100). Bathroom was also lovely with a separate toilet/shower area and a detached sink. The amenities for your stay include a token good for 1 mini bottle from their Moët & Chandon vending machine. You read that right, a *champagne vending machine*. Without the token it would be $25/bottle with a contactless feature for payment. There are two flavors: brut and rose. I redeemed mine but haven't found an opportunity to crack my bottle yet. A modified amenity due to COVID is their breakfast service, which is served at the Paso Robles Inn. It is available daily from 7-11 and you get a choice of 5 items. The breakfast served is average (Cheval's offerings are a bit better) but considering that Paso can get pricey if you're not mindful of a budget one should take full advantage of this. My experience is 5-star worthy and subsequent stays I'll have to decide between this hotel and the Cheval as both stand out for different reasons. PS: My only gripe is the prices listed on the rooftop bar and the hotel's wine bar. Cocktail prices, though not cheap, are typical of any popular tourist attraction city. The major concern are the prices of a glass of wine, which can start for about $20 for a lower-tiered winery and cost almost $40 for wineries considered "cult status" (Linne Colado/L'Aventure/Clos Solene). This is ridiculous. For about the same amount or less for a glass of wine I can go to the winery itself and do a tasting menu of 5-6 wines. Not only do you get more wine that way, you'd also be directly supporting the business, which is always much appreciated during the covid days... Should you want you drink in Paso, there are plenty of businesses just in downtown that can give you a comparable experience for the same amount or cheaper. read more

I'll let you be the judge but I booked this hotel thru Expedia for my 15 year anniversary for the March 7-9 back on January 27 only to receive a notification the hotel was over booked with less than a week notification before my stay by the hotel. When I called the hotel management (Terry) I was told the hotel was overbooked and couldn't accommodate us and for that weekend. When asked why the hotel took a month to figure out they were overbooked she indicated it's happened previously and they had 10 additional bookings that they couldn't fulfill then offered to help book me with 3 star hotel before declining and offering Allegretto hotel that was several miles from downtown. When I inquired on the rate it was almost an additional $200 more for similar room (king) than what I booked thru Expedia for the Piccolo ($306). As much as I appreciate taking the time to find additional accommodations it's not what I requested and if it was I would have made my reservations with the Allegretto from the beginning. If you have issues with keeping room count which she admitted why wouldn't you ensure the problem is resolved between the hotel and Expedia? Why wouldn't you be more proactive as a manager to ensure this doesn't happen again and have staff look ahead to ensure your room count is inline w reservations? Why would you wait one week before to give a customer bad news? Why would you blame Expedia for overbooking if its the hotel that's accountable for ensuring supply is inline w demand and if it isnt promptly informing the guest especially if they are flying in from out of town for a special event? For anyone that's ever traveled you know what this hotel did and it comes down to profit. Buyer beware and if you do decide to stay make sure they confirm in writing from hotel even after reserving thru Expedia as it doesn't mean anything. read more

We usually stay at Hotel Cheval but it was booked. My husband said wine spectator magazine recommended this hotel. It's brand new so we figured why not. Wow, amazing!! Upscale boutique feel. Staff was really welcoming. Our bedroom was nice size, bathroom was great. I love when the toilet is in a water closet! But probably the most surprising was a wine refrigerator in the room! This was epic! Especially in this town. And they gave us vouchers for breakfast close by, we weren't even expecting that! Really important to know that the location of this hotel can't be beat! It's right smack in the middle of town, we walked everywhere. They have a rooftop bar/lounge!! And for all your scaredy-cats.....it's spotlessly clean! I'm talking immaculate! Staff was cleaning constantly. I would definitely be staying here again. read more

Second day here and I'm so impressed!!! Great hotel, amazing and helpful staff. The hotel is boutique style but with class and up to date decor. It's super clean and they are enforcing all Covid regulations but in a way you still feel blessed to be here and have the ability to enjoy such a great place. They have a roof top bar that has an incredible view and above average drinks. Highly recommend staying here when visiting Paso. We'll be back soon!' read more

Gorgeous but chilly modern setting on top of a new boutique hotel in downtown Paso Robles is worth checking out. However, I have to concur with other Yelpers that something seems amiss with wine pours (a single glass of local wine) from $30 to $40 a glass (with no lower prices even in the $20 a glass for a more cost effective glass of any red wine) is somewhat shocking and certainly not welcoming for guests. In a town where you can find world-class wines for $45 or $60 a bottle, charging $40 a glass for most of your red wines on offer (and $200-$300 a bottle) seems odd and off putting. We encountered friendly bartenders who none the less are not mixologists and seemed to stumble over basic cocktail construction, which starting at the steep price of $19 for a small overly iced cocktail is still somehow $20 less per glass than the majority of their wine selections. The pricing here is hard to fathom and frankly, impossible to justify. We had two cocktails and a mock tail for about $70, and most of that was unfortunately ice. We enjoyed the fire pits, blankets and space heaters, the setting and the friendly staff, but in all my days of enjoying wine in Napa, Sonoma, and places around the world, I have never been so surprised at a price point as I was at the Piccolo in Paso Robles. read more

Cute hotel and very central but man are the floors and walls thin. Whoever was above my room, I heard every footstep they took throughout the night. I also found the pillows incredibly lumpy. But they have a wine fridge and provided morning breakfast in a cute box tied to your door, so you win some and lose some! Overall a nice addition to Paso, just bring some ear plugs. read more

Cute and clean boutique hotel which is very close to downtown square and walking distance to everything. Has an industrial yet modern feel to it. Staff are all very friendly. Nice rooftop bar which has outdoor fire pits and you can enjoy the city views. Also has a convenient water station in the lobby to refill your water bottles! The only improvement could be having a small table in the room, as there really wasn't any space to have a small meal or snack in the room. read more

Do not stay here. They advertised when we checked in, the roof top bar would be open until 11 pm. They closed it on Saturday July 20 th before 9:30 pm and refused to serve us when we came back from dinner. The manager was no where to be found, and they made lame excuses about the Mid-State Fair. All they had to tell us was they close early due to the Fair when we checked in...Nothing! False advertising! Spend your money elsewhere, where they are honest. read more
