The best Vietnamese cafe in the area!! This hidden gem is a little off the path near Bay and Wellesley and is such a cute cafe with multiple outlets and wifi. I would say my only problem about the seating area is that it often feels cramped with their rickety chairs and outdoor appropriate furniture. Their service is also nice every time and they're helpful if you ask them questions. We always order the Bac Xiu (around $6) from here and have never been disappointed. It's very sweet!! They have regular Vietnamese coffee and lots of other options as well, but I love the sweet Bac Xiu no matter hot or iced, it's always good. Very quaint Vietnamese cafe/resto! I had a very pleasant experience here and would definitely come back. Food: - Tried the Classic and House Special bahn mi (both as a combo which comes with a drink - we opted for the classic viet iced coffees). The bahn mi and coffee were both delicious! I liked that the baguette of the bahn mi wasn't too thick nor too hard - it was a nice consistency that was easy to eat. The coffees were sweet (which is typical) but the sweetness level got to a better level once the ice melted. Ambiance: - Nice! Lots of tables and chairs to sit in, although a little cramped. There's also wifi, plugs, and you can do work here. The tables and chairs are those typical outdoor ikea ones - not the most comfortable but they do the job. The tables are not very compatible for drinks because of the gaps on the surface. This would be the biggest flaw of the place I would say. Service: - Excellent! The staff were very nice and would happily explain anything on the menu you have questions on. We actually ended up accidentally spilling a drink (because of the gaps in the tables). Updated review: Nowadays my go-to drink at The Oats Kafe is their Salted Phin Coffee (iced only). The salt-forward cream foam and the silky sweet condensed milk really complements the strong and bold coffee, and I feel like I'm taking a long jog on an oceanside beach, tasting the salt in the air with each stride. It's a delicious caffeine boost dessert drink to start my afternoon. I do wish they put more of the drink and less ice though :D I've also started to get their sandwiches again, although the house special banh mi sandwich is a hit/miss - sometimes the bun gets way too hard and crumbly, which actually hurts my mouth when I take a bite. The grilled pork belly is also inconsistent, some days juicy and tender, other days salty and dry. One item I don't recommend getting anymore though is the Egg Coffee. In recent visits the ratio between the egg/condensed milk cream foam and the coffee is way off, and I often find myself drinking half a cup of eggy foam before ever getting to the coffee. Definitely not worth the 10 min wait. An alternative recommendation would be their hot Bac Xiu, as it is getting colder outside. read more

Cute little shop tucked in a side street near Bay/Wellesley, I made a visit after work shortly before their closing and dined in before realizing I misread their store hours and they were closing in 7 minutes and not 1 hour. They have outdoor & indoor seating - small wooden picnic-like café tables each seating 2. Would be great to bring a friend or get some work done. Ordered 2 drinks: egg coffee and the peach & kumquat fruit tea. Also ordered the lemongrass beef banh mi & grilled chicken vermicelli. Egg coffee was really good; I've never tried an authentic one, and have only made it in the past. The foam was creamy and light; like whipped cream with an extra nutty flavour. The peach and kumquat fruit tea was also delicious with the kumquat adding a tang that I rarely find in other fruit teas and juices, although it could have been less sweet in my opinion. Lemongrass beef banh mi was for a family member, but they filled it up nicely and didn't skimp on the ingredients. Grilled chicken vermicelli also came in a great portion although I was unfortunately unable to savour it fresh due to the store closing for the day. I spent a total of ~$40, kind of.... expensive... I read about this place on BlogTo and bookmarked it for a future visit. On a cold Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend was craving coffee and asked if I had any cafe that I wanted to visit. I remebered that I had this place in mind, so we made our way to this cafe. It was a small cafe and it had a relaxing vibe. The place was full of people eating, drinking, or working. We were greeted by two friendly staff working behind the counter. I picked the Egg Coffee (which I read about and wanted to try!) and my boyfriend chose a Latte. The drink size was set, so we were not able to get our drinks as larger size. I was curious as to what the Egg Coffee would taste like- it was very tasty! The creamy consistency of the egg was a lovely balance against the rich bitter coffee. My boyfriend also enjoyed the Latte- it was creamy and smooth, just as he was expecting it to be. We got a seat by the other end of the cafe. The seating was quite tight, so we had to make sure to keep our belogings and coats rolled up (otherwise, there was a possibility that we would hit someone by accident). I've tried the white coffee, egg coffee, and flat white. This is as good as it gets. Banh mi and tasty drinks at a reasonable price point. I ordered on Uber Eats and got 2 sandwiches, Salted Egg Cupcake, and Viet Coffee (Bac Xiu). There was a promo going on where you spend I think $20, you get a free Lavender London Fog tea, so I got that for free. What surprised me was that the delivery came packaged really well. I was worried that the drinks would come spilled, but it was packaged to allow 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches to sit securely in the bag. The only casualty was the salted egg yolk cupcake that got squished, not picture-worthy but still tasted great. The drinks are not too sweet. Though I was surprised that the London Fog had some sweetness to it, without requesting it. It seems like if you didn't request the plant milk, the default had regular milk in it. We stopped in to pick up a few bahn mis and à juice for lunch on a Saturday. The place was packed and the service was slow. It took good 20 min to receive our order and we decided to eat outside as it was too busy inside for me to feel comfortable dining in. The bahn-mis were quite dry and underwhelming with not enough filing for the sandwich. No pâté, no margarine/butter...etc. the meat also lacked flavour and it made for a ho hum first visit. I really like this cute little Kafe. The atmosphere and decor is really inviting. Staff is friendly. I got the bac xui (white coffee) twice and it was nice and frothy and delicious. Their coconut coffee is very enjoyable. It's like latte but with coconut flakes in it. Their almond croissant is very good too. They warm it up so it's extra nice. The salted egg cupcake was interesting. It was more of a light fluffy cake with egg custard, pork floss and fromage on top. It was good and very unique. I've missed out on trying the pandan jelly cake the 2 times I've been there as it's been sold out. I'm glad they have Vietnamese / Asian flavored desserts / sweets. I haven't tried any of their savoury dishes or the banh mi yet. They also have a lot of breakfast options. Definitely recommend trying this place! Finally found a place in Toronto that serves Vietnamese Egg coffee! It tastes like marshmallow coffee. It has a layer of condensed milk, Vietnamese coffee and a special l egg mixture. It's almost dessert like. This place is the cutest little rustic coffee shop ever. They not only serve different kinds of Vietnamese style coffee, but they also have a variety of teas, fresh pressed juices, pastries, different kind of toppings on Oatmeal, Chia seed puddings or Greek Yogurt. Ever since I tried Vietnamese coffee, I've been hooked and this especially extends to white coffee. So, you could imagine my excitement when I discovered The Oats Kafe and flew myself over at the first opportunity. I ordered the ICED BAC XIU (white coffee), offered in one size only and priced at $3.99 plus tax. I'm a coffee drinker that can enjoy both an unsweetened and sweetener cup. The thing I love about Vietnamese coffee is that despite its sweet nature, their coffee is so aromatic, fragrant, and bold, that it still remains the spotlight of the show. Condensed milk is typically used to make these drinks which also add that rich and smooth texture to the beverage. Absolutely perfect rendition of this classic, just wish there was less ice so that I could enjoy a few more sips of this deliciousness! The decor of this place is very minimalistic which I love. There's quite a lot of seating and despite COVID, there is dine-in allowed. Service is extremely friendly and you could really see their passion when crafting the beverages! Dropped here before the lunch hour because I was meaning to check out Oats Kafe. Even around 10-11, the staff were busy with drink and food orders with a couple people sitting in store to eat and others waiting by the barista bar for their drink. I decided to get the avocado toast because I was craving sourdough bread and avocado. When I received the toast, it was in a paper bag, neatly wrapped in aesthetic parchment paper and sealed with an Oats Kafe sticker. I sat outside on one of their patio tables to eat it. (There are a couple of tables lined up against the store outside.) When I unwrapped it, the toast surprised me. It was a white bread sandwich (lightly toasted) with avocado mashed with tomatoes and onion inside and some arugula. It honestly tasted okay and the tomato and onion with avocado was an interesting combination but I wasn't a fan. I am unsure if the menu in-store stated that the toast included this. One upside was that it was pretty filling. I will return to Oats Kafe to try out their drinks and other goodies as I think their avocado toast was just a miss. read more

Found this Vietnamese cafe when looking for a snack on a Sunday afternoon. Besides pho restaurants, you don't see many interpretations and representations of Vietnamese food and culture in the city. I love that they really lean into presenting the culture in a modernized setting. We ordered the iced Vietnamese black coffee, egg coffee, and a salted egg cupcake. The black coffee is shaken with ice at the end, which gave it a nice froth. At first taste, I immediately noticed it was much less sweet than usual, and the coffee was acidic. I expected the condensed milk to be at the forefront, but it was really refreshing to taste the coffee for a change. The salted egg cupcake was good. Soft and airy cake with a nice combination of sweet and savoury on top. I believe there was pork floss on the icing. The egg coffee was the star of the show. It takes about 10 minutes to make and it's well worth the wait. The dense foam was rich and creamy with a subtle sweet egg taste. I saw all the Instagram and social media craze and knew I had to come! I got the Bac Xiu, their signature coffee with milk and condensed milk, and it was like a warm, sweet hug in a cup! Super frothy and yet, it felt light. I adored it. My boyfriend ordered the Vietnamese coffee, but it was quite subpar. Not sure why, but the coffee was far more sour and acidic in his drink than mine. We shared a salted egg cupcake - which was so interesting! Have been meaning to try this cute cafe everytime I pass by and I finally did! Menu was very unique, has Vietnamese coffee and snacks as well. I ordered the iced tea with lemongrass and the walnut chocolate cookie. The tea was refreshing and light and I loved the cookie. We have been here numerous times on our afternoon walks and we always order the same thing, Vietnamese coffee and decaf coconut coffee. They both hit the spot perfectly, especially in this winter weather. When the weather warms up many of their drinks including the Vietnamese coffee can be made iced. The staff is always so nice. The coconut coffee does take a little longer to make so I always find myself asking questions about their delicious looking menu. It's easy to miss if you just look up at the drink menu (it's on the counter by the coffee machines) but they have a whole assortment of food (avocado toast, oatmeal, bowls, pastries, etc). I love the ambiance of this place, it's always very relaxed and welcoming. I don't mean just a little acidic, and I don't mean just acidic enough for one to appreciate they are drinking coffee... It was rather an unpleasant acidity. I figured maybe I just hadn't stirred it well enough yet, so I stirred it vigorously... Yeah that had nothing to do with it. It had a surprising number of tables inside for indoor eating/drinking.. though I wasn't comfortable enough with how many people were sitting closely from one table to the next to sit indoor (since they were all maskless to be able to eat/drink/talk).
