Decent restaurant in Corolla Light, but not worth the drive if you are coming from outside of the resort. The dining area is an intimate patio above the resort pool and felt great on a hot evening. Our waitress, Bailey, was excellent. The crabcakes and mahi mahi were delicious, but most of our other dishes were mediocre. We were excited to see that they had key lime pie, but it was served in a ramekin and was more the consistency/ flavor of stale lime mousse. I've only been once, but there were way too many problems to pass it off as just an isolated bad experience. Starting at top, we walk in for our "reservation" and our waitress is essentially just a bartender who works at the bar. She's kind of busy so we wait. That's fine, but she offers us some drink menus and never comes back to get our drinks. Then we're finally sat down. I noticed that on this relatively pricey menu (almost every entree starting at over $20) that there is nothing vegetarian-friendly. Unless my girlfriend would like to dine on onion ring and french fries. So I decide to test out the kitchen and see if they can create a solution. Our waitress acted completely mystified, as if she'd never been asked for a vegetarian option before. Then she said she'd ask the chef. After disappearing and coming back 10 mins. later to get our order, seeing me reminded her that I was the guy who asked about the vegetarian thing. She's like, "Oh, yeah, I asked and they really don't have anything." Really? So you charge 20-30 bucks a plate and you're telling me your "chef" down there can't whip up a veggie saute or a simple pasta dish. Give me a break. But the hits kept on coming. She then also informed us that they were out of crab cakes. Mind you it's only 8pm. And, by the way, the front of the menu hails this little restaurant as "Crabcake Heaven". I guess we'll just have to take their word for it, cause we were held back from tasting their signature dish. So, I order Blackened Tuna, medium-rare. Two others at the table ordered medium-rare as well. Each and every one of those things came out about as close to well-done as you can get without charring the outside of the fish. It was probably the hardest, driest, most overcooked tuna I've ever eaten. And it was like $21. Awesome. What a deal. The side dish was a joke. I got six green beans. SIX. Not to mention, they were so saturated in butter, you could hardly cut them with a fork. They just bent like rubber and oozed out butter juice. Awful. I'll wrap this lovely review up with the most obnoxious part of the meal. We asked to split the checks up 3 ways and our server acted like we just asked her to explain the theory of relativity. She literally said this: "Well, I can just divide it 3 ways evenly, but if you want me to actually split things up, I don't know, I guess I could, but it would take a really long time." That's when I remember her telling us she's worked there for 4 years. Gee. I wonder if she's ever had anyone ask her to split a check before. This town is full of tourists. Tourists with families. Who vacation together. And don't always just buy each others meals. My advice to this server: LEARN. Or go ask your manager. It's not rocket science...you have a touch screen register. Then after bringing us our 3 checks, evenly split, and as we're trying to pay each other the difference in cash, she has the audacity to say, "And I'll leave the original check here in case you want to split it yourselves." Wow. I thought that was one of the 3 or 4 things I'm paying you to do. It's called service. And you're in the service industry. Get a clue. So, long story short, this place is terribly run, has overpriced food, has a lazy, incompetent chef, and has servers who don't give a crap. This orange-tanned girl was probably too busy thinking about what party she was going to later, and in the meantime, I was the sucker paying $60 for a crappy meal and for my girlfriend to eat artichoke dip and side salad for her "nice dinner". I can't say enough about how awful this experience was. And as a disclaimer, I have over 8 years in the service industry as a busser, server and bartender. This is maybe the worst overall experience I've ever encountered. And again, given their prices, you can see it was a tough pill to swallow. My advice: don't waste your time or money. read more

Went to the grille for my parents anniversary. Seating was outside facing the ocean over the pool for the resort. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was a bit pricey but the the food made it worth it. I had the tuna steak and crab cake. The crab cake was especially good. Mostly crab, hardly any cake. The staff was all nice as well. I looked at the website and apparently it is only open seasonal. For as expensive as the menu is, I'm going to have expectations. The food was pretty good but worth about $5-10 less per plate. The cocktails weren't good. Obviously the place was poolside but there's some things you don't want to experience from an expensive restaurant: having to go down to the soaking wet pool bathroom, shirtless dudes walking past your table to go to the bar. We ate here in October 2015. Ordered crab cakes, bacon wrapped scallops, shrimp wellington and oysters. All were way better than expected. We are from Maryland and found them ALMOST as good as home. First, the name should be Pool Side Grille. It's on the pool side of a resort. It is about 200 yards from the ocean. Service was slow and unorganized. All seating is outside on a covered deck which is fine, no ceiling fans to move the air. It was 98 degrees when we got there. Very pricey. Menu selection was very small. The food was not that good. Chicken was over cooked. Shrimp Wellington is like something you would get at an All-U-Can-Eat Japanese Buffet. Zucchini had no seasonings Too many flies. Just pass this one by. read more

Went in with 12 adults and was not impressed. The potatoes were good tasting but, one of the party had some hair in theirs. The fillet was mediocre and smaller than the crab cakes. The she crab soup tasted like cream sauce with Old Bay (my mother-in-law makes better). There were a TON of flies and fortunately one of our party ordered a Bourbon Beach margarita which appeared to attract a lot of them to it... So overall highly recommend using this method as the porch does not have screens or fans to keep the flies at bay. WEBSITE IS DECEIVING! Beware of this place! It's a dinky, dirty, very overpriced little dive. It can barely be described as "oceanfront." A better descriptor would be "poolside." You can hardly see the ocean from this place. It is next to a large public pool, and the majority of the seating is outside (and very cramped). No air conditioning. Cobwebs, flies, and pollen everywhere. The website makes this place out to be a classy, romantic restaurant with beautiful sunset views of the ocean. In reality it is a filthy little hole in the wall that overlooks a noisy pool, and the majority of its clientele are bathing suit-clad teens and twenty-somethings. We spent over $100 for three burger platters and a kids' meal, and the flies ate more of it than we did. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I have eaten here for years since I was a little kid. The food is excellent, my favorite is the crab cakes. I have noticed that a lot of people have complained about the prices. What they don't realize is that traffic into Corolla is extremely seasonal so almost all the stores have to make their money in the summer. If you want something cheaper, then eat in Kitty Hawk or Nags Head where things are not as seasonal. read more

The ocean view was nice. The flies were not. The food was meh. After leaving we tried to get a pizza because we were still hungry since most did not finish the food but the wait was too long so we came home and ate peanut butter crackers. The crab cakes tasted like canned crab. My husband and mother in law both were ill later in the evening and both had the fruit as a side. The daiquiris didn't have alcohol in them but they did have flies in them. I saw reviews that mentioned flies and thought that you're outside how can you complain. Well let me tell you I have never seen more flies in my life. They are a swarm and not just a few flies here and there. If you don't mind mediocre food and a lot of flies, the view is quite nice. We had a wonderful meal with a great view. Waitresses were friendly, attentive and made suggestions when asked. The mahi mahi was supposed to be deep fried which I don't normally eat but I had a craving for fish so they grilled it for me and it was fantastic! We asked to be moved to another table to avoid the flies, but on the opposite end of the deck, MORE FLIES!!!. We felt bad since the staff was very nice, but we're not paying extra for a nice view and food covered in flies. Attack of the flies!!!!! Gee whiz....yes, there is a great view of the ocean--hence the name of this establishment but they may want to think about changing their name to the Oceanfront Flytrap. We had a party of 12 (reservations made beforehand) and were smushed together on their narrow deck. Granted, we were early and they accomodated us rather than making us wait till our reserved time so I really do appreciate that. I liked that you were able to take any two items from their menu to pair your meal. I had a tuna steak and one crabcake. The crabcake was absolutely delicious--one of the best I've had, but unfortunately the swarm of flies ruined this experience for me. I read the reviews ahead of time so I wasn't going into this blind, but I couldn't believe how many flies there actually were. We had to put napkins over our drinks so the flies didn't take a swim and once the food came out it was game on. Swatting flies left and right throughout our dining experience and having them land all over my pricey meal made me lose my appetite. The service was decent, but the waitress waited until the end of our meal to bring a citronella candle to our table...not that it helped much but maybe this is something they should constantly having burning on their tables. They did take two coupons since we were technically two tables smushed together, but even the cut on our bill didn't make this experience pleasurable. Do yourself a favor and don't let the she-crab soup or crabcakes pull you in to this place. Keep driving and find a place where the flies stay at bay. read more

Tucked away in a gated community, great views out to sea. The most 'upscale' spot we went to in the OBX but that's not exactly hard. Menu is odd, they have 8 or so dishes and suggest you order two different items as a combo (e.g. Lamb chops and crab cake) and then it's served with potatoes and veggies. Seems like a way to make you order more food than you need. My parents just had one entree and it was easily enough. I had the mahi mahi in lime glaze which was excellent, easily the best thing I ate in the trip. My lamb chops were way over cooked and had to go back, I wasn't hungry by the time they returned. The portions were too big. Service was very good. Would go back, but would hope for a little improvement in the preparation. read more

We went with a group of 7. The food and service was excellent. Hearing the ocean in the background and watching the sunset only added to the experience. The server, Bailey, was attentive, friendly and seemed to know when you wanted something without having to ask for it - a rare thing now-a-days. We had a large party and they had to split us into two tables. Because of the space they have to work with, they can't accommodate large parties. Everyone loved their food. The service was extremely quick. Even with appetizers, we were in and out in an hour. The crab soup was not all it's cracked up to be. The crab cakes were good and had hardly any filler. Portions are large. Prices are as to be expected in a resort. I'd say give it a try if you're staying in Corolla Light but don't go out of your way. read more
