The best Irish Guinness stew I've ever had . When in Dublin , I highly recommend experiencing this authentic Irish stew . The service was excellent and very accommodating with our booking . If you plan on walking in, you could be waiting awhile for a table so highly recommend making a booking on their website in advance . The atmosphere is a bit crowded but well worth it .
Great food, great atmosphere, the quintessential Irish dining experience. This is one to check off your list as a "must do" while visiting Dublin. The place is small and there's usually a line to get seated, but the tables rotate impressively fast. The food comes out quick and the service staff is on alert. Give this place a try, it will not disappoint.
Was hoping to try out some Guinness beef stew before leaving Ireland and found this place that was open and ready to serve food by ~10am. The restaurant is located on the second floor and has a cozy vibe. The seats are generally very close to each other. I opted for their 2-course early bird special (€26.95) and chose the Homemade Vegetable Soup as the starter and Braised Beef & Guinness Stew as the main. Both plates came with brown bread and butter. The stew was good but way too salty for my liking. The consistency was thick and yummy though. The vegetable soup was also on the saltier side and I wish it was more chunky. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. The service could've been better. The employees didn't seem very pleased to be there and I felt like I was being an inconvenience just by being there. When we requested the check, they asked if we wanted to add a tip which dampened the mood.
If you're in the area, The Old Mill Restaurant should be on your list. From the traditional decor to the delicious food, this seems to be a staple spot for an authentic Irish dining experience. Thankfully, when I arrived around 1, one table happened to be opened so no wait for me. A long queue did start soon after though so just be prepared for some wait depending on when you arrive. I ordered the Seafood Chowder and the Guinness Stew. Both were very tasty! The Seafood Chowder had a good amount of seafood and the flavor was hearty but not overly heavy. Same applies to the Guinness Stew. Very hearty with lots of beef chunks but I didn't feel too heavy after eating it. The stew is definitely much different in terms of flavor and the richness (the stew was a lot more rich) but having the contrast of both dishes was ideal. To top it off, dipping the provided soda bread in each of the dishes was an added bonus. The service is very prompt and the staff are friendly. There's a decent amount of tables so turnover shouldn't be too long for those waiting in the queue. Will definitely be back on my next visit to Dublin to try the other dishes!
Hard to find as we passed it & realized it's upstairs! Small single room w/ a standard collection of wall art / signs. Asked to be re-sat & they were happy to let us choose. We asked about the soup flavor & they offered a taste and brought out a huge sample boat. Super cool. I got the cottage pie lunch portion, which is more than I could barely eat. It came with a boat of the sauce /and gravy and meat. Wife got the fish and chips... The fillet was longer than the plate and it came with a mountain of fries, both delicious. Daughter got the creamy vegetable soup and chips. She loved it but couldn't even finish half. All the portions were very generous, nobody finished their meal, too bad we couldn't have taken it back to our hotel. Server was great & funny. Love this place.
Like many have mentioned, the restaurant targeting towards tourists. I had the seafood chowder. The good: tons of seafood; the meh: salty and not very creamy, also not the freshest seafood chowder I've had. The fish and chips are far, I mean far below average. The fish isn't fresh and the peas are brown instead of green, eww. Service is average. Tips are anticipated unlike other local restaurants. There are way better restaurants in walking distance.
Tiny, old, full of character restaurant on the second floor of a building in Temple Bar. They turn and burn here so don't be dissuaded by a line up the stairs. They told us a 10-minute wait and it was just that. Service is quick and there are waiters buzzing around tending to your needs. A pint of the mother's milk (Guinness) was calling our names. And for my son's first pint in Ireland, he split the G on his first try. IYKYK Meat pie was piping hot! Good sized portion and the veggies were cooked perfectly, a gravy that was delicious, and a topping of mashed potatoes which were perfect. Well done. Son had fish and chips. It was one half of the long cut of a fish. Fried perfectly with decent chips, not too fat. May come back if looking for traditional Irish fare but lots of other places to try here.
We were here 8 years ago...accidentally found it then and the same now as we couldn't remember the name...but we have told everyone we know about our experience in 2017, it was so good! We fell in love with the ambiance and the staff! Last time we all had the fish and chips, vegetable soup, shepherds pie, beef and Guinness stew, drinks (yes...guinness) and desserts. All were so amazing we came here three times! Oh! They had a delish potato stew last time....all over Ireland the potatoe stew seems to have been replaced with potato and leek puree since COVID 19. We are trying different things this time, pasta, salads, cheesy bread, bread pudding, hamburger....and still no potato stew. Wish it would come back to Ireland. We miss it.
Our first dinner in Dublin, the reviews and photos looked amazing was the reason of choosing this place. There was queue when arriving however it was worth the wait as it was small space upstairs. They had all the traditional Irish cuisine including a FULL Flour Free Menu! We had the Famous Irish Lamb Shank and Traditional Irish Stew. They are absolutely delicious and taste buds was more than happy. It felt like pure enjoy eating them. The lamb shank was melting like butter and mind you Irish butter is freaking amazing. The flavor was outstanding. The traditional Irish stew was our favorite dish of all time. We would totally come to this spot. We for sure came back again one last time the night before we had to fly back home. As we didn't know when we will be back. I tried the cottage pie and let me tell you... exquisite and my partner had to get the Irish stew again. Overall, you have to go here :)
Located in the temple area, the Old Mill restaurant has some authentic Irish meals in this traditional pub. We ordered the chicken and chips which came with ranch and ketchup on the table 5/5. The Old Mill trio came with garlic cheese bread, chips and a delicious creamy vegetable soup 4/5. Great service from Vanessa and pleasant staff overall. Nice historic decor in the bustling traditional Irish pub.
The Old Mill restaurant is in the crowded and touristy Temple Bar section of Dublin. Typically I try to avoid areas like this for meals and general shopping, since you always get the feeling you're being gouged or not getting the experience you otherwise think you could elsewhere. The Old Mill restaurant is definitely the exception in this case. We waited on a line going down a staircase for around 40 minutes to get in, but the staff were nice enough to give us menus and serve us drinks while we waited. Once we were seated, we got the coddle and lamb shank for our meal. Coddle is definitely a more unique Irish flavor you wouldn't see elsewhere and had some good meaty flavor to it. The lamb shank was an absolute star to me. Served on the bone and so tender that it falls off the bone a fork, served with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. We also had the death by chocolate cake for dessert which was very rich and heavy on chocolate, so the scoop of vanilla ice cream definitely helps break it up. The only slightly irritation is them pointing out and asking for a tip afterwards. So far, the other restaurants I've gone to on this trip haven't asked, tapped my card, and off we went. So, you have to wonder if that was primarily due to the restaurant's location in the touristy district. Despite this, I would certainly recommend the the Old Mill and will certainly be making a return should I ever return to Dublin.
An incredible vibrant, typical Dublin pub restaurant it's a must go. You're immediately greeted by a lovely server who just wants to help and serve so we started with glass of wine for Deb and a big old Guinness for Peter loved it. Deb had mussels that were fantastic And I had the Guinness beef stew like 4 pounds of it so good and we got our bill gave a nice tip and said goodbye and see you soon. Great night.
Decently affordable prices and wide offerings of dishes in the heart of Temple Bar area. The stew was bursting with flavor and came in huge portion with mashed potatoes, and I appreciated the mini Irish breakfast option for 10 euros.

Called to make a reservation for a party of 6. Got in right away. We were seated quickly. Greeted right away. The staff were all friendly, attentive, and quick! Amazing customer service. The ambiance is great, with some Irish memorabilia's. We tried the seafood chowder. It was very tasty. The garlic bread was served very hot and crispy. They have kids menu (kid friendly) we ordered chicken wings for one of the kids and the pasta for the other kid, and both of them were tasty and looked like not from the kids menu. The kids love them!!! It also includes dessert. We ordered the braised beef, and the beef pie. Omg!!! Highly recommended! Sooooooo good! Perfect for the chilly weather. Great portion! We came out full! Will definitely come back when we come back to visit Ireland again. Thank you! read more

We were lucky enough to snag a table here on a Saturday around 5.30pm without a reservation and beat the rush. The servers were wonderful, food was delicious as were the drinks. Seeing the line down the stairs and down the street upon departure was another indicator of how good this place is. I would definitely return and would recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment. Some other reviews mention they don't take reservations but they do according to their website and I did see tables with reservations signs on so do try especially if you are planning ahead. This is in the popular, high pedestrian traffic Temple Bar Area so allow time to get here with parking and what not. I also highly recommend the Lamb Shank (it was delicious) This is the perfect place to try all the Irish classic dishes they offer. read more

The Old Mill is located right on Temple Bar Square and serves plates of traditional Irish food in an upstairs dining room. The Traditional Irish Stew was a thick, savory, herbaceous stew of chunks of Irish lamb, potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion, finished with parsley and thyme. The dish was served with slices of brown bread on the side, which went nicely with the hearty stew. I also tried the Cold Platter of Smoked Salmon, Prawns, and Caper Mayonnaise. This came with four juicy prawns topped with a creamy sauce; a mound of cabbage slaw topped with slices of smoked salmon, carrots, and arugula; caper mayo; potato salad; and two slices of brown bread with butter. Everything on this seafood platter was tasty, but I especially liked the smoked salmon with the mayo and the bread. Overall, the food here was simple yet tasty, though a tad overpriced for the portion sizes. But the real standouts of this restaurant were the friendly service and lively atmosphere! read more
had an amazing experience here! came on a friday night with no reservation and they made room for us. doorman was so kind and friendly. we sat down and I got a gf cider and my husband got a beer. we ordered and within 5 minutes our food came out perfect and piping hot. i got the irish lamb stew with gluten free bread (they have a gluten free menu here!!). my husband got the fish and chips and in his words "the fish were fishing and the chips were chip in". Excellent meal if you're looking for traditional irish food. read more

What an awesome place to eat in the Temple Bar District! We had set out to eat at and visit THE Temple Bar, but of course, there was no seating available. I began my Yelp search, and stumbled upon the Old Mill. We set course, and we arrived to a short stairwell labeled with popular Dublin dishes directing our path. The staff greeted us with a smile, and eagerly sat us down. Their menu is filled with traditional Irish flair as well as beer and cocktails. I had the Coconut Peach Belini, and highly recommend it! Little kick of rum was not expected! Their food is incredible! We had the Cottage pie, fish and chips, and bread pudding. Being from east Texas, they educated me on the importance of "mushy peas" and I gave it a go! I just cannot say enough about this place. We absolutely loved our evening stay in Dublin even more after finding this gem of a place to eat. read more
Highly reviewed and centrally located near temple bar area, so checked this place out. We came early before lines started to form so we were seated right away. I had the Shepards pie( what Ireland is known for) and it was delish. Everything we got was flavorful sand delish. If you're looking for an authentic Irish pub mens while in Dublin, this is your place ! read more
Stopped in here recently for a couple drinks on a Friday evening. We sat outside under the tents as to watch the people walk by on the cobblestone road. Although it took a while for us to be served, the waitress turned out to be pleasant and the restaurant inside upstairs seemed to be very very busy. As I write this review I noticed that the restaurant has a very decent star rating so maybe next time when I'm in town I'll give it a try. As far as our drinks and this review always good. read more

Wonderful food! Servers were busy but they did a good job of getting you served quickly. They take reservations via email which I would highly recommend. Great traditional Irish pub ambiance. We had the Guinness pie and fish and chips. Would highly recommend! read more

Great spot in the middle of Temple Bar for fish & chips. Was greeted with a warm welcome and equally pleased with the huge portions of food. The ambiance is very cozy with Irish music playing. I recommend it if you're hungry and/or thirsty for a pint of Guinness. read more

First meal we had in Dublin and it was great. There were people outside trying to persuade you to come in, but I took a glance at menu and decided we should try it. Love the steps going up and the decor of the pub. Service was great. Seemed like they all just work together because we had several people come to our table. This may not work in all places but they seem to know how to do it, fine. We didnt have much, but what we had was delicious. Shared a cottage pie and some chip (fries) with garlic butter. Of course washed it down with some delicious pints. read more

Overall Rating: 3.7 Definitely caters to tourists. Decent prices for Temple Bar area, but still a pretty penny spent. They have a 2 course meal special all day Sunday-Thursday and until 6pm Fridays and Saturdays, which makes the meal more affordable. The Good: * great service & friendly staff * large portions * the seafood chowder was the highlight & cottage pie was good * the 2 course meal deal The Not-So-Good: * bangers & mash was ok * small dining space upstairs gets crowded fast All-in-all, I'd go back if I couldn't find a better dinner spot for the night. read more

If you are cold this is the place to go. Not only for warm savory comfort food but for the humidity that hits you in the face on the way in. I'm not sure how they pack so many people into such a small room but everyone is lively and laughing as they bump elbows with their neighbors. The muscle appetizer was gone too quickly to get a before photo and the cottage pie required a take away box it was so much food. The lamb shank was good but did not live up to the hype. As for service everyone takes care of everyone so it can be confusing. One person took our order, one brought the food, one brought the take away container, and another the check. This did make it difficult to get in and out of there but all in all we had a good experience. read more

Absolutely amazing place to get traditional Irish stew. It's a restaurant located on the 2nd floor. Great atmosphere and it made me feel like I wasn't a tourist. The seafood chowder to start with was freckin awesome. The main dish fantastic. I wish I was coming back to Dublin to eat here more. You cannot go wrong here-staff are fantastic and made sure after our starter that we were ready for our main course. read more
Last meal on our 10 day trip to Ireland and we were down in the Temple district to see the old bars and other touristy stuff. Was getting ready for dinner and didn't think much since this place is in the heart of the tourist area but boy were we surprised! We had great service from our main waiter and learned all of the servers work together which was very helpful! The food was beyond great...my husband had been craving lamb and I googled lamb restaurants and this was close to where we were and they were known for their lamb shank. I think he wanted to lick the plate if we were not in public. I had the chicken and prawn pasta and it was very good but so much food I couldn't finish it. My friend had the fish and chips and the fish was so crispy and light I was a bit jealous. Probably the best batter of any fish and chips of our trip! I wish this place wasn't so far across the world, I would go back anytime!! Please don't judge it just because of the location. Make the trip upstairs and enjoy great food, service and buy a t-shirt like the servers wear. read more

This is a restaurant (not a pub), so there was not any live music, but that meant the foods were much more delicious. Plus, it was less noisy compared to a pub. The restaurant was up on the 2nd floor, and was very crowded when I walked in, mostly with tourists. I ordered an Irish specialty - the Guiness beef stew, and it was delicious! There were vegetables in the stew, and the meat chunks were generous too! The stew broth was thick and a bit sweet. The meat was tender. The mash potato was ok. I ended up making friends with a middle-aged Vietnamese couple living in Frankfurt, who was on a weekend vacation to Ireland. We had a really good conversation which lasted from 7PM until closing time. I had a couple drinks including the harp beer (which was super light), the Bailey cream whiskey (which was very creamy), and a basic Jameson Whiskey shot. All was great! My server, who was Chinese and spoke Mandarin (I just loved the diversity in Dublin), was very welcoming, so my new friends and I left some tips. read more
