Since writing my first review I have been meaning to update. I really have come to like OTD. The waitress staff has changed since 2010 and the menu has condensed. Some people see downsizing as a bad thing: I disagree, I think that if you limit the menu to the best selections, it gives the patrons an all around better experience. Been here twice in the past few months with one of my friends for lunch. Food has always been very good but during our most recent trip we had to wait a very long time for our burgers and fries. Not sure what was going on to cause such a delay in the kitchen. Food is standard fare - but you can tell it is fresh and not pre-packaged like some of the chain restaurants. Restaurant also has a nice diner ambiance and is very clean. We may come here again - depends if we are in a hurry or not. read more

Went for dinner last night with my Mom and son. The food was excellent! My Mom had the fried scallops and she loved them. They are the small scallops, which is the kind she prefers and they were perfectly cooked. My son had the grilled chicken Caesar salad which is his favorite Caesar salad around. I had the boneless chicken cutlet dinner which was HUGE (easily enough for 2 meals). But as good as the food was, the service was even better! Our server, Jenni-Lee, was a delight! She was so kind to my Mom (who is in a wheel chair and has slight dementia) and I really appreciated that. She was friendly and efficient and the best part of our meal! read more

I have lived in Coventry for nearly 4 years and drive past OTD on nearly a daily basis. Only recently did we actually give it a go, at the recommendation of a friend from West Greenwich who comes all the way to Coventry for this place! I am largely of the mindset that breakfast food is pretty hard to eff up. That being said, it's hard to "wow" me. This was your run-of-the-mill breakfast food, which wasn't disappointing necessarily. I got an omelet which was good, and the portion was huge. Unfortunately our waitress didn't get my order right so I sat and stared hungrily as the other folks in my party got to eat. The coffee is a little weak for my taste, but it wasn't appalling by any stretch. The home fries I do have to say kind of knocked my socks off. Price wise it ran us about $40 for 4 adults and a baby, including coffees, various breakfast foods, and a couple treats for the little one. Certainly very reasonably priced! I don't think I'd go out of my way for OTD, but in a pinch for breakfast food, this place is too close to pass by! read more

I was just here. After waiting to pay my tab for 15 minutes (the bar wasn't busy but the bar tender was to distracted with serving employees and their friends and was also high on dope or drunk) , I moved in closer to the middle of the bar. While standing there, a very intoxicated man decided to smash his glass, sending its contents and broken glass all over me. I threw up my hands and said "are you kidding me" while walking away. This man became aggressive and followed me, getting into my personal space, screaming and swearing at me, asking if I had problem. He then told me he WORKS there and was a Manager!!!All this was going on while the bar manager and other associates stared me down. I felt like my safety was threatened. I will never be visiting this establishment again and I will make sure all of RI knows you employee violent Neanderthals. read more

Lately I've been fortunate to have been eating lunch nearly everyday at this diner. It's a perk of my job, and I have to say that everything I've had has been really good. I can't speak of the service, as we sit in the bar so the bartenders take our orders and bring our meals. I've had probably 10-12 different items from the menu as well as some of the daily specials. First of all, the portions are very generous - really large. Second, all of it is cooked to order, and someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. I am a fussy bastard at times, and there hasn't been anything yet that wasn't very good. This is not fancy food, or anything pretentious. It's good, solid diner stuff, done with care and obviously a lot of skill. Yes, it's out in the frickin' boonies, in a sad little strip mall, but the food is well above what you'd expect. read more

Was escorted to a booth that had a slippery floor as if on ice. We ordered then moved to the booth aside and still had a very slippery grease like feel on he floor. It also had a special Smell to it. The waitress said it was apple juice a little girl spilled. Well they must have used a mop dipped in the fryolator to clean if that is the case. Getting my complaint the waitress should have had someone clean the floor. That did not happen so when leaving I informed the hostess. When giving the place a closer look. My mother in-law spotted dirty tables with food/muck stuck between the stainless steel groves that surround the tables. I saw filthy tile that had crud stuck to it. 2nd and Last time. Had a gift card here which brought us in. Large location which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week. We went in for breakfast on a Monday late morning. Their breakfast menu is extensive so whatever you are looking for they will have. We got 2 regular pancakes which were enormous, the Telly Sevalas greek omelet (spinach, tomatoes, olives, feta) which came with toast and homefries, and the western omelet (just know that the ham is more of like a ham steak so the pieces are thick). The omelets were good, what you would expect for breakfast but the homefries were really good. They are cut up large potatoes, seasoned really well and not that fried, crispy stuff, more like baked. The pancakes were nice and fluffy. Overall the place is a little cheesy with their décor and their concept but it is in a good location with plenty of parking. The food was good, I would definitely come back. It seems that they have a large pizza selection so I may return during lunch of dinner to try that. read more

The meatloaf special and a cheese burger. Great atmosphere, good fast service. The kitchen was hopping. Negatives are noisy, but I know I don't like a lot of noise. We were seated on a two person table, no place to put our purses. The table rocked and we lost hot tea twice. We were right by the pickup window and could hear yelling. The burger was good, no complaints there. The meatloaf was good, but I can make better. It was a good sized serving with decent flavor, but didn't come with gravy. Who serves meatloaf without gravy? Red, brown, or white...it needs gravy. They did give me some when I asked, but it was quick beef gravy from granules. Oh well. It was decent and I didn't get heartburn. read more

Updating this review due to better food experience. I went for food a couple times and wasn't a fan of their wings, or pizza. However I think I didn't like the particular pizza my friends ordered because it had a BBQ sauce which isn't really my thing. Tonight I had fish n chips with cheesey bacon fries. Both were very good and the portions were huge, I couldn't finish it all! I also like their drinks a lot, they are strong and decently priced. The bartenders are also friendly and very attentive. Pros: A lot of choices, the unhealthier food looked like it was prepared better than what I got (grilled chicken and vegtables). If I were to go back I would get something along the lines of meatloaf or something of that nature. Cons: The healthy side of food that I got tasted dry like they do not have much experience making it. I would go here more if I did not care about my health. read more

I have eaten here almost a dozen times by now for dinner, some takeout some dine in. This restaurant earns stars for its pizza. The taco pizza stands out as a favorite. Where it loses its stars is pretty much everything else. Many of the entries taste straight from the freezer. I would avoid the seafood dishes for this reason. The salads are pre-made. For $8 I expect that my Cesar salad would not be warm and limp with soggy croutons. As for the restaurant, it's diner style, nothing special. The smaller booths are a bit cramped but Its fine, I wouldn't expect to find fine dining here. Despite these things we will return just for the pizza. read more

We ordered a calzone and a chicken wrap. The calzone turned into a pizza somehow. I said I heard calzone my wife said calzone and we're talked to like we lied. Why would my wife order a pizza for herself! The wrap had hair in it and was mushy and terrible. Everyother table gpt dinner rolls except mine. Service was bad and rude and the food wasn't that great. I had better food at McDonald's last night and they got my order right and treated us with respect. This is my go to spot! What's not to love? Half priced apps and 25 cent wings during football games at the bar. Huge menu selection with choices for every appetite. They always have great service and portions are huge. On top of all that, the prices are great! The only negative, they took trivia away. We used to play every week and then they just got rid of it with no warning. While that was annoying, we never stopped going. We love this place! read more

Came to old theater diner on Wednesday night to do karoake. The food was great. The bartenders were funny but the dj was awful. Karoake was suppose to start at 9. It didn't She played music but nobody was singing. Finally she started to let people sing....five people sang...then she took a looonnnggg break..its now 1030 and only 5 people have had a chance to sing. Apparently she's still outside smoking. I have been to OTD many times for breakfast before but never for lunch and the service is average and the food is average. They give generous portions and the food comes out in a timely manner. I would recommend OTD for an average breakfast experience. read more

Had a party for my sister recently at the Olde Theater Diner. We had probably 50-75 guests. Not one person had a complaint. Everyone raved about the service and the food. Guests kept on saying "they didn't realize the food was sooo good there". I cant say enough about our waitress Crystal. She is an asset to the restaurant. You won't be disappointed! read more

I'm giving two stars for the first time we went here after my daughter's dance class last fall. The food was great and we had a male server who was very friendly and attentive. After having been a few more times we realized we must have just got lucky that first night. Since then the food has been mediocre at best and the waitresses were rushed and rude. Last night was the last straw. We went basically for convenience and the hope that it would be better. Our waitress was very nice and attentive but the taco bowl salad I got was nasty. The tomatoes were old and blanched and the lettuce was disgusting. It tasted old and unwashed. I dug under all the toppings and pulled out piece after piece of nasty wilted rusty lettuce. They took it off the bill but that was the last chance we will be giving them. read more

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?? it was that bad... again.... I ordered home fries-- I got a plate full of greasy, oddly (and overly) seasoned- sort of fried and sort of soggy smashed up potatoes. I don't know how you mess up home fries this badly -- maybe I should give them another star for that The waitress took our order and we never saw her again until 30 minutes later when she came with the bill. Oh wait -- I did see her -- but not at our table. My companion ordered eggs and bacon (really I could have made those at home) BUT not like this! They were over cooked and rubbery. The bacon was good. Apparently NO ONE can mess up bacon. I asked them to take my home fries off our bill since one bite was all I needed to regret touching them (but I was pleasant about it I swear). No one asked what was wrong - no one offered anything else - NO ONE CARED! We spent around $10 for the meal -- pancakes for the little one (good except for the fruit flies swarming around them) and an eggs and bacon meal that luckily came with home fries. They don't serve REAL maple syrup either. Really? This is our second disappointing trip to this diner - there will not be a third. Recipe for home fries (hope this helps): 50lbs of potatoes peeled and largely diced (soaked overnight) Boil the potatoes until SLIGHTLY tender Drain the potatoes very well Deep fry the potatoes in large batches and store hot until service season with salt and pepper (not whatever the heck that was) OR if you need to a mix of salt and pepper and chili powder is AWESOME! easy peasy read more

4 Stars pushing towards 5. This is a great place for locals to hang out, enjoy a drink, and have some awesome food. I recently had the prime rib and it was outstanding. What I have noticed that is different from my last review, their housekeeping has improved a lot. If you want good food and awesome staff, this is your place. Keep in mind there are two bars and a huge dinning room. The lower bar can get loud with regulars......I love that. The upstairs bar is a bit more refined and less noisy. read more

We needed a place to take a 9 yr old baseball team and I will say that OTD was the perfect location. We called the day before to see if they could handle a the group and they proved they could. Tables we set aside and pizza was ready shortly after ordering. Pitchers of soda and water were handled perfectly. They had games, pool tables and air hockey which kept the boys busy as the parents had time to eat. The service was beyond expectation. Great job to all of you! We will be back. read more

When out with my wife Saturday feb. 13 for valentine's day. My wife had the turkey dinner. I had the 12 ounce steak. My wife's stuffing was hard as a rock. I couldn't even put my fork through it. I showed the waitress and she took it away. Also my mashed potatoes and my wife's were so salty that I couldn't taste anything else but the salt in my mouth. My waitress was nice so I still left a really good tip. But they should have taken something off the bill. I emailed them and let them know that we don't go out often and that the dinner was disappointing they never even bothered to answer my email. Last time I go their for dinner ever again. 80 dollars for 2 people and it sucked!!! read more

I have gone to The Olde Theater Diner several times with the family. We all enjoy the food, service and atmosphere. It is a converted movie theater that has an attached pizza joint with pool tables, but don't let that turn you off. The food is really good and the price is reasonable. Worth the try. read more
