I was excited to check out Tavern on the Hill as I'd heard the name quite a few times but had never visited. With a friend's band on their entertainment schedule, I found the perfect opportunity to try it out. I was looking forward to both the music and the food and while the music was amazing, my overall experience didn't quite live up to expectations. Pro: - My friends and I were able to reserve a table ahead of time, which helped secure space to enjoy the show. We had an up close and personal view, and it definitely made for an immersive experience. Cons: - The space is way too small for live bands. The band was squeezed into a corner, and the closest table was practically on top of the lead singer. The small space in front of the band may have been meant for dancing, but it blocked the path to the bathrooms and food service. It felt cramped, loud, and uncomfortable. - The pub-height tables had tall chairs that were wobbly and unstable. I'm not a big person, but even I felt like I might tip over sitting there. Plus, the layout was so tight that we all had to get up every time someone wanted to wiggle their way to the bar or the bathroom. - Our waitress disappeared for long stretches of time, and service was painfully slow. We ended up having to go up to the bar for refills between courses because no one was around to help. - The food was disappointing. I ordered the house-made tavern chips (which look like potato chips on the website) but got plain tortilla chips instead. I also had two hot weiners, and while they had all the right toppings, the flavor was all wrong. The meat sauce tasted burnt, and they were completely overloaded with celery salt. It was honestly the worst I've ever had. Others at the table felt underwhelmed with their selections as well - the quesadilla was soggy and the appetizer sampler was just okay. - The bathroom locks were unreliable. The lock on the door failed halfway through my visit, and it took several attempts to get the button to work again, which made for a pretty awkward experience. Given this visit, I'm unlikely to return. If I do, it'd have to be for a great band, and I'll definitely eat somewhere else beforehand. read more

Located in a large white houselike building on top of the hill the staff is fine and quick. The beer prices are great and the glasses are cold. Nice selections as well. The service is always friendly and efficient. I usually order a sandwich of some kind and my wife loves their wings. Overall, a casual tavern with live music and a lively crowd. Salty salty salty! Their dinners are probably meant for eating while drunk, because I'm really not sure how else you can choke down the food. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large, but you'd have to be guzzling some beer first. I would say stick with the usual bar fare--burgers, wings, etc. Don't try to get fancy. I stopped in on a Wednesday night to grab a bite to eat and watch a baseball game. Unfortunately, the kitchen was not open due to staff calling out so I couldn't stay that long. The bartender was excellent and the beer was ICE cold, the local patrons at the bar were all super friendly and welcoming. There is a pool table in the back and three televisions. The bartender found the game I was looking for and everyone at the bar joined in on watching the playoff action. The price for a Miller Lite bottle was $4.00. read more

This is a very casual, neighborhood bar. We have been stopping in for the 'saugies'. The menu has all sorts of hot dog options and we have tried a few. We come on a weekend afternoon and sit at the bar. The bartenders have always been very nice and friendly. Some sort of sporting event is on the TV's and folks wander in, have a beer, watch a game and then wander out. Very low key. There are several beers on tap and in bottles, wines and hard liquors available as well as soft drinks. I should have checked out the entire menu by now but really, it's all about the hot dogs when I go in there. Perhaps one day I'll read the rest of the menu. The restaurant is clean, they have regularly scheduled live music, Sunday brunch, and this past summer streak fry's outdoors. The ladies room is clean too, but as there is just the one bowl, you may have to wait in the hall if it's a busy night. Walked in with my wife and daughter. Thought I'd give a local a shot. Stood at the door for about 5 minutes while the lone bartender looked my way and continued doing what he was doing. Finally I said - "Sit anywhere?" to which he replied yeah. Found a seat next to the bar with almost everyone seated at the bar giving us the look over. Not sure what that was about. We were at the table for 10 minutes with not one person coming over to greet us or ask us for drink orders or to give us menus. Still we kept getting looks from the bar patrons. With no greeting or presence of mind to indicate someone would be with us shortly we got up and walked out. Went to Dan's down the road which was awesome. The local West Greenwich dive bar. Every time I have gone I've had good service with no complaints. They make good drinks and have a large selection of draft beer and liquors. It's a little outdated but it's meets the atmosphere. I've never eaten there but if you like hot dogs this is the place for you since they have a huge expansive hot dog menu. Came to the restaurant at 8 on a Saturday night and the bar was busy but the restaurant empty. Was a little concerned but have to say that we were overwhelmed by the food quality. The mussels, RI chowder, clam cakes, baked seafood trio and home smoked BBQ platter were all very fresh, well seasoned and made from quality ingredients. The sides were all great especially the sweet potato fries. The bartender was our server and she was very friendly and attentive. Overall an excellent meal at a very fair price. Outside appearance looks like something from Deliverance. Dirt parking lot, and landscaping in disarray. We went in and were greeted by blasting loud music....noise pollution rather. GO HERE!! aside from the food being perfect, this place is spotless and the service was attentive without being intrusive. The smoked chicken sandwich was tasty and flavorful without being dry. The roll was the perfect amount of bread for the chicken and it too was grilled adding to the all the flavors. There were 3 BBQ sauces to choose from--again very yummy without overpowering the chicken. Sweet potato fries--what can one say? They were crispy and delicious. Coleslaw with a hint of caraway. The smoked chicken dinner with greens was savory and a good portion as well. First time there tonight and was fed raw chicken tenders. It's so dark in there, we didn't even notice and of course we each had one but with reluctancy finishing it. there was so much BBQ sauce on the damn thing it was difficult to even notice we were eating raw chicken. Once we finally got a knife and put our phone flash light to it. Completely raw. What happened to standards? We were literally the only ones there eating so being busy can't even play into the crap we were just fed. In hindsight, I guess that's why we were the only ones there. No excuse can make up for the fact that we could get violently ill or worse. But hey, we were offered a gift certificate. What the heck? We will never go back there. Accidents happen, I understand, but it's a chicken finger and if you're a cook and a restaurant owner has hired you to take care of their customers - you have a duty to at least plate thoroughly cooked food, even if it does suck. Came with the family tonight after a softball tournaments as it was close by and recommended by some softball moms. I will just about eat anything, especially when I am hungry but this was the worst food I have ever had. I actually felt bad for them,especially the waitress. We waited FOREVER for 2 salads, pizza and clam cakes. The clam cakes had spoiled, rancid clams inside that were actually tangy-yum! Pizza was all soggy and luke warm and tasted like spaghettio sauce. My taco salad had luke warm, gross beef on it with gross dressing. My other daughter just had onion soup and I guess you can't screw that up too badly. Never again. Large pieces of dust hanging down from the air conditioning grate right above our table and food. $85 for swill. read more

I personally live 10 mins away from here and I'm surprised I've never gone. This place is great. When we walked in the door, we had no idea that their kitchen was closing in 5 mins. Just happened to be the case, but we were still kindly offered to order up anything we wanted. I ordered their bacon cheeseburger w/fries and my friends got their drinks. The burger and fries were both excellent, especially compared to what you'd consider average. I've had some place's burgs n fries that were like fast food, Tavern on the Hill gives ya the exact opposite of that. My friend's beers were nice and cold. The waitress was helpful and attentive. Normally I like stopping here while I'm out on the motorcycle. About a week ago I stopped there on a Sunday and the most miserable bartender I have ever seen was working. The bar was busy, I think it was open mic, you'd think the girl would've been happy to be making some money. Nope. You couldn't have gotten her to smile if you tried. I saw one woman get up from her barstool, come around to the other side of the bar, just to get the bartender's attention for another beer. Rediculous. They never came back! Not once! We were the only ones in the restaurant area!! After an hour of being ignored and aggravated at the lazy, obnoxious, ignorant staff we left! Obvious they don't want any new customers- just the loud drunks at the bar.........never ever go there and expect someone to actually wait on you! I have been in the service industry for 30 years and a business owner for 15- and I would absolutely never treat prospective customers that way and I don't appreciate being treated in that manner. I had sangria to start and the appetizer was Tavern Frenchie...it was delicious and Ashley's Sangria was excellent. I had the eggplant parmesan and my husband had broiled scallops. I have Celiac and eating out is always an adventure. The staff here could not have been more accommodating. The cook came out to speak to me and patiently answered my menu questions. She brought out containers so I could read ingredients and took special care to clean the grill and cook my food separately. I ordered steak fajitas sans the tortillas and a side salad. The salad she made was enough for three people. ( She said she felt bad because I couldn't have the tortillas. My husband had the Thanksgiving turkey sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were just passing through but I am so glad we pulled off the road here for lunch. read more
