I have been coming to this location for 15 years and it has always been good. I'm not the biggest fan of the remodels over time and the way they designed the benches now. However the food is still on point, although I believe they have changed the recipe a bit over time (probably to control food cost). I was able to make it in just before the lunch rush started. The waitress gave us more salad than two people could eat with a meal. It still wasn't busy when we had to flag the waitress down for a water refill and more of their unlimited breadsticks. One thing that I always request at restaurants is ice without water, and it didn't surprise me that the waitress allowed my refill to have ice in it. Thinking about it more, there might not have been a lunch rush but rather a problem seating the party of ten that arrived after us. The food was so bad that neither I nor my guest wanted to finish our meal or take it home. The vegetables tasted like they were frozen and then steamed - served plain without butter or seasonings. His fish tasted like it had the frost burn cooked off of it. My steak was served a little too well-done, without seasonings. The salad was the best part of the meal. The comparison that this place begs to have with the Olive Garden ends with their food. I will consider skipping lunch before I go back here. read more

I've always enjoyed the food here, and the crab cakes used to be the best in Harford County. Unfortunately, the amount of filler has increased, even as the price has increased. Today my single crab cake sandwich lunch cost me $23, and for the quality of the crab cake (too much jelly bean sized bread), I will not be ordering again. Rolled into town late on a Sunday night and they were open until 11pm, so I went. Tried the cream of crab soup, seafood linguine and a glass of wine. Service was on point, fantastic spot for families with babies and young children, the place was mobbed with them. Wish I ate in the bar is all I will say. Soup was mostly cream, little crab, heavy on the flour. Sauce on the pasta tasted bottled, very institutional. Think of this place as a C grade Olive Garden knock off. Like others have said, this is like a non-chain Olive Garden, down to the salad in the same bowl and the same breadsticks. They have more seafood on their menu, though. Service was impeccable and made lots of adjustments without complaint due to picky people in my party. The food was solid, nothing spectacular and not much different than that other place whose name starts with "Olive," but a little better. Excellent! My first time here- clean restaurant and clean menus! We were seated immediately and Johnny took care of us! He was very punctual and polite! We had a crab pretzel which was amazing! The salads and bread sticks were fresh! My egg plant Parmesan was great and my husband had sausage linguini, which he enjoyed! We will be back and we will be asking for Johnny! The Olive Tree has always been one of our favorite restaurants in Maryland. However we went there on a Wednesday for dinner and the entree my wife had came with mashed potatoes; needless to say we were pretty upset to find out that they were using instant and not real potatoes. We were told by the person in charge; that the head Chef is off on Wednesday's and he will sometimes use instant potatoes. We let the manager know how disappointed we were that a restaurant like this with the reputation it has earned over the years it taking these shortcuts to save money! We have been there several other times and always ask if the dish we are thinking about getting has mashed potatoes; if they are real. We haven't had that happy again but make a point not to ever go there anymore on Wednesday nights. Then we go there last night (Saturday) and to our surprise; we were told that they were again serving instant mashed potatoes, on what is usually one of the busiest nights of the week. We asked if the head Chef was off and were told that he wasn't and were informed that they go back and fourth between real and instant. Be aware that this is the case and now and appears to be a standard practice. So disappointing; I wonder if the owner who originally opened the Olive Tree had that in mind when he was trying to build a name for himself as one of the finest Italian restaurants in the area? It also makes one wonder; what other kind of shortcuts they are taking? read more

Huh?, What?, Huh? That's how our conversation went between our table and waitress. The acoustics in the dining room are horrible. To make matters worse the buss boy did his best to clang as many dishes as he could and made sure he threw the silverware in the dirty dish tray. Went out with my husband to grab some good food and thought this looked like a good place to go to off yelp. The entrees were super good which sadly is one of the only good things. The bread and salad was more on the mediocre side, a bit bland. As for the service it wasn't good. We barely got checked on by the waiter. Refills didn't happen at a somewhat reasonable time and almost thought it might not even happen. We had to ask other servers for help. I come with my family 5 times a year. This time was mid day. I had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo, very tasty if slightly on the salty side. My wife enjoyed her Shrimp Fra Diovlo. The pasta and spice were perfect and they gave a generous amount of shrimp. My son enjoyed his plain Fettuccini Alfredo. The service was excellent. Our servers name was Christian. He was very prompt in every stage of our visit and filled drinks before you could look around. Let me see, the service was slow today. So when the waiter finally showed up, they sat us right by the ordering station, we gave him our drink and food order at the same time. Our drinks did not come for almost 10 minutes. Then he finally brought the breadsticks and salad out, for the butte for the breadsticks. Then drinks arrived, the usual of water, soda and smoothies. Then the food arrived, my wife's Alfredo pasta was dry, so I informed the waiter who told us that he would get her more sauce, just another $3.00 for it (what????). Dry pasta and your going to charge me to put the Alfredo sauce on it, whatever, coming out of his tip. We asked for boxes for our foods, every time we have been there, they always put our leftovers in boxes and bags to go with us, not this time, we had to do it ourselves, again tip??? Finally he brings our checks to us, five of us there, I asked him about my military discount, "we don't do that here", now we are in a military town, really!!!!! What about senior citizen discount? I am basing my review on pricing and the ridiculousness. I attempted to reach Management with no response received. I recently went to Olive Tree to purchase two bowls of soup, half-n-half (half Maryland Crab and Cream of Crab). When I picked up my "bowls" of soup, I had sticker shock, it was $16.96 and these servings were far from being "bowls". When I said something to the server, she said "that's the size we have" and closed the window. I could have gotten two full meals for a little bit more of money. The soup wasn't even that great. I believe the restaurant is banking on the fact that for the most part we have chain restaurants here in Aberdeen and no real restaurants. Shameful. Outstanding. We visited for the first time today. Our server, Jhony, was very attentive and friendly, the portions are huge. We were surprised by the large salad bowl that came with the breadsticks. The salad was great, mixed greens, cucumber, tomatoes with a well balanced dressing. The breadsticks were fresh and not oily. The entrees were large, we ended up bagging most of it up to bring home. I had lunch at the Olive Tree yesterday near Aberdeen Proving Ground. I went there based on the urging of my business associate. I have to say, The Olive Tree is several degrees better than The Olive Garden with whom most are so familiar. We started the meal with a sangria pitcher that tasted better than those I had in Spain. We then were served a fresh salad and breadsticks that beat their chain competition hands down. Finally, my meal, Chicken Carbonara, tasted like it was made by my Italian friend's mom from the old country. This is DEFINITELY, a place you want to try.
