Husband and I were in the area and were looking for a "mom and pop" place to get something to eat, and we stumbled upon The Omelette House. There is decent parking around the building, but the restaurant inside is fairly small. We were there on a Tuesday late mroning and there was probably 4-5 other parties in there. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. She took our drink and food orders quickly. Lots of options for a small restaurant. I had crepes and my husband got biscuits and gravy. The food is good, but the hollondaise sauce is not very good. They had no vegan options, and I simply cannot eat another plate of hash browns, so we are stopping at Jimmy John's for a delicious vegan sandwich on the way home. My husband said the coffee is good! We had the nicest lady as our server. The service was fantastic. The food was delicious, I had crepes with fruit, yum. She had a skillet and she loved it. The exterior is ok, average. Upon entering it look dated, no music was playing..basically sad. A guy behind the counter advised me + my friend to sit down. He came over with menus and took drink order. He was dry, low toned with a dirty apron. He came back in 3 minutes and said he would be with us shortly though I already knew what I wanted to order. Instead he took a guy's order who walked in after us. By this time 7 minutes passed...he came over to asked for order. I informed him we changed our minds. He said oh. But the Omelette House Grill blew me away and has become a family and friend favorite and i have visited at least six times in the last few months. Excellent service, a scratch kitchen, and great coffee. This is a small, but magical, family-owned restaurant that specializes in breakfast with some Latin twists. To be clear, this is not a Mexican restaurant, but an American one with just enough Mexican inspiration to make you feel like you're taking part in a family meal. The vegetarian Mexican skillet is absolutely divine and the potatoes, jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, and peppers taste so fresh. The huevos rancheros are amazing too. Everything is cooked to order and I'm not sure there is a better omelet in the suburbs. With only seating for about 20 people, it is common to see a small line on the weekends, but it is worth it. Be careful what you order, because they will charge you everything à la carte if you don't order it exactly as on the menu. We thought we were ordering kids meals for our kids who don't eat that much, but got charged full adult meal prices plus extra for each topping, even though Kids meals that were similar were fraction of the cost. I've drove past Omelette House about a gazillion times before I knew it even existed. Seems to blend in with every other business on St. Charles Rd, so don't expect it to jump out at you. Just look for a small A frame building. Very unassuming, cozy, no frills, mom & pop joint serving brunch items from 6am-3pm. 4 egg omelets are a thing here (go figure) and so is the variety. Virtually all breakfast items are on the menu with the exception of eggs Benedict. They do simple better here. Entrance is awkward. If you park behind building use the door on your left (there's 2). This single door is both for entering and exiting so imagine running into people on a busy morning. As soon as you enter you're in a very unspacious dining room near tables..about 10 or so give or take, half open kitchen with small counter. No waiting area, so if you don't find an open table, just stand over someone else's and watch them eat, hone in on their conversation...and maybe ask for a sample? I'm not an early riser so this wasn't a problem for us. We sat down and menus and water were delivered right away. I wanted lunch and decided on the patty melt. Comes with soup and fries. He had the corned beef omelette with toast and hashbrowns. Corned beef tasted pretty good. Hashbrowns were tender and crispy. This was a belly buster of an omelette, you won't leave hungry and you'll probably leave with leftovers like we did. While my iced tea had a funky taste, the patty melt was worth every buttery, crispy fattening bite. I'm talking crispy to the 10th degree. I don't eat alot of patty melts, but this is worth coming back for again & again. Cream of chicken rice soup was hitting every soup spot. Good fries too. Nice menu selection from burgers & sandwiches, to chicken, pork chops & salads. Ham off the bone, skillets, monte cristo and then some.. Older interior has a grungy appeal to it.. Ahhh the good ol' Omelette House! I never went here until about 5 years ago. My family and I tend to go out for breakfast often and talked about checking this place out, but I think that we were reluctant due to the way that the place looks on the outside. One day we decided to give it a try and boy, were we pleasantly surprised! First off, the building is very small with limited seating. They always seem to only have two servers working and during peak hours they are slammed! Several times that I have come in here I have had to wait in the door way to get a table, hovering over families eating their meals which is uncomfortable for both parties. One thing that drives me crazy is that every single time I come here, I only order a water to drink. Their cups are small and the two servers are usually too busy to give me a refill during my meal (one of the worst things a server could do in my opinion). I wish that they would just get bigger cups to prevent this from being an issue. I know what you're thinking - how could you still rate this place 5 stars after that? Well as far as the food goes, it is delightful!!!! Hot, tasty, and priced fairly every time. My family and I have boycotted every single other breakfast place to come here instead. If we wake up on a weekend and decide to go out, we don't even discuss where we are going, it is just assumed that we are going to the Omelette house. The two servers there work extremely hard even though they sometimes can't get to every thing. They have never messed up a meal of mine and have always gotten my food to me in a timely manner. If you are put off by how crowded the place can get, order take out or try to come before/after rush times. I can confidently say that as long as I still live in the area, I will continue to go here as my #1 breakfast restaurant.
