My wife and I showed up on time to our dinner reservation at 630pm and were offered a corner seat which was barely big enough for one. When we asked for a different table the manager offered to seat us at the bar. The manager showed indifference to the bad seating choices he was offering and was EXTREMELY RUDE. No apologies or asking us to wait few minutes to try to seat us somewhere else. Good service should be a staple at a small local restaurant but that's obviously not the case here. My wife and I have eaten here and few times before and really saddened by our experience. We were left out in the cold to figure out how to salvage our night out. read more

There was no discernible theme, with pictures of Hendrix and Santana on the walls, a big pizza oven occupying one corner, and a mishmash of Indian fusion food and pizza on the menu. Our waiter was bright and friendly. As an Indian, I've had plenty of home cooked and restaurant Indian food, and I'd put this place near the top of my Indian restaurant list. The Onion Tree has always been a special restaurant for our family. We have had a party for the granddaughters' baby naming. Rachel was so sweet and prepared a menu for the guests. We had a birthday party for my husband. Their pizza is amazing. I was partial to their brunch until I ate there on Saturday and had the special Restaurant Week menu. I now have new favorite dishes! Quaint place tucked in the heart of Sea Cliff that was very busy during our visit - that's always a good sign! The pizza was yummy and tasted fresh (it was gone before I got to take a pic lol) and the Dosa waffle was a unique appetizer that was creatively done and very flavorful. The meals were also excellent - my family ordered the chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken (see pics). We loved everything! Butter chicken was not as good as it is in most Indian restaurants and was seemingly heated in a microwave because some of the chicken was cold. Bread was beyond bland and also greasy. I was packed with anticipation to try this place for the brunch as it was for a reserved event. I could not believe the appetizer salmon on toast. The salmon size was no bigger than 1/2" x 1/2" paper thin along with a paper thin slice of lemon on top when the rind was removed the lemon slice was not to be found. It was all bread. the Waffle bites had one blueberry, 1/8 slither slice of full strawberry with a sprinkle of grounded walnut. The caesar salad served family style had slithers of one anchovie throughout the salad- they did not give serving spoons to take it off the plate so everyone had to use their forks and dig in. PIZZA Margherita was burnt and small. Everyone's pizza was burnt and the room was clouded with burnt smoke. The menu states unlimited brunch drinks but I was halfway thru the ginger ale and they took it off the table not be replaced. They would refill the glasses with tap water-which I don't drink.The entree selection was burger, chicken tikka, dosa waffle and steak n eggs. The steak was tender but small !-I say small !!--it was a round one inch piece of meat on top of a scrambled egg, the chicken tikka was spicy- mostly rice filled the bowl and the pieces of chicken were cut into 1/4 x 1/4 box shaped and I counted 12 pieces of chicken and a half bowl of sauce. Really - one must state on the menu Basmati rice bowl with bits of chicken is more appropriate. Someone at our table had the burger and the house fries which was probably the best entree served. The other tables had their coffee already served with their assorted cookies and pastries and forgot about our table which was right by the door. I had to ask the waiter for the coffee/tea and cookies and he said "do you really want it." Of course I do, but now I am sorry as the coffee was very dark and horrible and could not be drank. You even had to ask for the milk for the coffee. The place is very small and you practically sit on top of one another. I was at a planned event and I knew the people but if I was to go in for a regular meal I would not feel comfortable knowing the there is no ventilation as the doors and windows are closed with no air circulation. This is a definite place not to be returned to. I came home and had to prepare a meal. One would think since it was a planned event they would be well prepared. Very disappointed!! read more

I complained to the owner about a dish I ate that was terrible and she was nasty, very nasty. Now when I see her around Sea Cliff she is very nasty. The food is not good. I would never go back there. There are so many other places to eat in the area why would someone go there. They will not be in business long. read more

The Onion Tree is a wonderful spot! The owners, bartenders and waitstaff are so lovely and really make for a welcoming atmosphere right away. The cocktails are delicious & you must try Jay's take on a Moscow Mule. Last minute decision and a GREAT one at that to go to The Onion Tree last night. What a fabulous little place with delicious food and incredibly friendly service. Very funky place....not what you would expect from an Indian restaurant. Indian food with a 70's vibe, great music, terrific artwork and a lovely owner, Raquel. She and her husband, a chef himself who has worked around the world opened this inviting spot in March 2020, unfortunately at the height of Covid. They have not only survived, but are thriving due to their delicious fare and warm and welcoming attitude. There is a brunch menu as well and we will definitely be returning! read more

This place is great. It's quite an unexpected mix of foods that you might not think would work well together but they do! Indian meets Italian meets American. Their pizza is surprisingly amazing and cooked right there in an oven so front and center that you can watch and smell it happen. The vegetarian curry was delicious. I'd recommend checking this place out! The owners are very nice and made sure we were satisfied both times we went (even gave us a free round of port wine one time!). read more
