Update. Still very good all around, from appetizers to desserts, but pricey, for example, $43 for a bronzino entrée, and $14 for a coconut sorbet dessert. However, we concluded that, all things considered, it's worth the higher cost. Some of us ordered extra off the menu, like zucchini linguini with bolognese sauce instead of what otherwise came with the entrée and were accomodated at a reasonable upcharge. I tried their tiramisu for dessert, without the powdered sugar or chocolate drizzle, and it was fresh and delicious. So was their decaf cappucino (and the waiter gave me three shots of espresso with it). Service was excellent. Food was delicious. I couldn't describe it as a "family style" Italian restaurant, where you often go home with leftovers, but what we had was enough. read more

4 stars because I always feel the tables are too close together. I understand the reason due to the restaurant's popularity and to maximize revenue. The food never disappoints and service is very good and attentive as are the cocktails. My partner had the calf liver entree, while not for me personally, he and another dining companion declared it was delicious. The veal chop special and veal parm were outstanding. Surprisingly, this was my first visit to this restaurant considering that I have dined in many restaurants in this town. One can find a framed portrait the original owners hanging in the front of the house reminding their customers of the early history of the eatery. Before I visited the restaurant, I read a short article on the restaurant's menu; two assorted styles of cooking, old world, and new world, which is wide-ranging American style. But since new ownership took over the business, the ownership has added creative a modern cuisine and added popular dishes such as Sesame tuna, and roasted duck along with East-Asian flare to the Italian restaurant's menu offerings. We dined outdoors under a sizable tent situated where I believe was the restaurant back parking lot. I ordered a traditional dish for my entree, Chicken Scarpello which was good. But prior to that I ordered a martini that was in a Sparkling wide mouth glass, the first I have seen of that. Overall, it was a good dining experience for our first visit. My 1st visit & we had a wonderful dinner experience before we were rudely asked to leave because someone didn't have the patience to wait for our table. We were a party of 10, which was squeezed on a table of 8 and we did not complain about when we got there with a reservation which was made well in advance. The tables are tightly packed together & noisy. We started with the Salad which were okay. The Caesar salad was very garlicky & kale salad lacked dressing. The Minestrone Soup was like a chicken soup with vegetable. All the dinners were amazing & definitely deserved 4 Stars. The Bronzino was served in a sauce with Shrimp,Clams & Mussels. Veal Chop was pounded thin as well as the Chicken parmigiana. Salmon & Halibut was fresh. All the desserts were delicious as well. Sad to say that the level of rudeness which was displayed brought this review down. It was truly uncalled for since we don't live in the neighborhood and we were a large party with a significant bill. My wife and I had our first date at Trattoria DiMeo over 30 years ago. This was when the original three brothers owned the restaurant on 25A in Roslyn. The food was amazing and the service was like family. Later we got engaged there to much pomp and circumstance, and again everything thing was wonderful. At that time young Sal DiMeo was waiter and apprentice and he manned our video recorder to mark the event. Ode to the Musketeers We moved away to New Jersey, and longed to return for that beautiful red sauce and signature stuffed artichoke. We dropped in a few times and were never disappointed. Now that we returned to Long Island we had to return to Trattoria DiMeo for my wife's Birthday. Once again - Perfection. Sal is now at the helm, his father and uncles have now retired (one pass-GB), and Sal is doing more to keep the traditional family recipes going and bring on additional modern dishes. My Bronzino with muscles, little necks and shrimp over pasta and julienned zucchini was to die for. My wife's fillet of sole in an egg batter and delicious lemon sauce was incredible and she got her red sauce over spaghetti on the side (she was a very happy Birthday girl). My mom's veal with a hint of eggplant was cooked perfectly. My brother-in-law was struck by inspiration and asked if he could have something off the menu and without batting an eye they said "We can make anything you like". May I suggest a nice bottle of Barola wine to start your meal, and don't forget that stuffed artichoke. For the finale they never disappoint and the warm flour-less chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped the night. First time coming here. Went here today for Mother's Day lunch. The food and service was outstanding! Our waiter Nestor and was so helpful and very accommodating! For appetizers they give you complimentary garlic bread, cheese/olives, but we also ordered the principesa salad. They split the salad for two people which I really enjoyed. Instead of us having to serve ourselves! For my entree, I order the Ragu Pappardelle which was so so tasty and very filling! My mother ordered the chicken parm and it was very tasty as well. Very very good sauce. I had the sangria cocktail which was strong and not too sweet. I will definitely be back because I have nothing bad to say! The food here was good to very good. I just wasn't too impressed. Service was excellent with quick ordering and recommendations. They even cleaned up our crumbs with that crumb scraper thing. Extra olives and cheese bits were offered along with soft crusty bread. I had the penne with broccoli rabe and sausage and my dinner mate had the filet of sole. The fish was a bit boring. We arrived at 5:00 (1/2 hour early) for our reservation to meet our friend. When we explained that my partner uses a walker, the attendant told us to pull into a spot directly next to the entrance. First impressive sign of a restaurant that wants to please. Next, we were permitted to select where we wanted to be seated. We chose the outdoor patio (with only 3 tables) for safety. In addition, every staff person wore a mask. Lastly, the quality, taste and presentation of the food was superb. The food was awful but not as bad as the service. I ordered a chicken dish with eggplant, sauce and cheese. It was a special and the waiter said he could have it done gluten free. Most restaurants if they can't do a dish they come back and ask if you would like something else, not here they just substitute a different dish without mention. My husband ordered scungilli check for small print. The waiter didn't mention it didn't come with pasta unless ordered with pasta, and he didn't mention or ask if he would like pasta, so he was brought a bowl of scungilli and just that. My wife and I had a great dinner together tonight - first off, the prices are high but look where the restaurant is. Roslyn. Pretty nice area on the island. With that being said, the food was really really good! Especially the main courses and that amazing cannoli. My wife had the eggplant parmigiana and I had one of their specials - the veal chop parmigiana (it was pricey at $44 but well worth the experience). My wife loved her course. Get friendly with the staff and they will treat you well. We ended up knowing the owner/chef, Salvatore, and he's a great guy. But this review is unbiased and true. We got treated to a fabulous cannoli. Homemade pastry and filling that's done right when you order - any place with pre-filled cannoli's should be questioned. I tried a port wine (great dessert) and we also enjoyed their homemade biscotti. I haven't read any lower scoring reviews but just know that Trattoria Di Meo is a great, family owned Italian restaurant with great decor, food, and service. Parking is a bit tough (but they do have valet) right off of a 2 lane road, but that's nothing to complain about. read more

I have no idea how this restaurant got 4 1/2 and five star ratings. Tonight had to be one of the more disappointing meals I have ever eaten in my life and I am not 18 years old. To preface we tried to eat at this restaurant two weeks ago based on the reviews had a reservation for 8:30 and could barelymake it in the front door. After squeezing through a packed bar and entryway I made it almost to the hostess station which by the way had no hostess at it only to be told by the gentleman in front of me that he had been waiting there about 10 minutes trying to let them know that he was here for his reservation. With this we turned around and left. Fast forward two weeks and we try it again. This time we were seated immediately which is probably the only good thing that happened all night. The wine list is severely lacking the noise level was deafening!!!!! In order for the person sitting next to me to hear me I had to scream at the top of my lungs. I left the restaurant with a blaring headache. We ordered clams in white sauce as an appetizer, Six little clams in an incredibly salty sauce. One friend ordered shrimp Fria Diablo over linguine she received three shrimp over spaghetti. I ordered what was supposed to be Bronzino. The server brought it and said here's your sole oreganata and I said that is not what I ordered I ordered Bronzino with this the waiter came over and said No see the order. It's Bronzinoit. well it wasn't. So I had the privilege of paying $42 for a stupid piece of sole that was terrible!!! If you like unbelievably loud over priced restaurants with food that is meh, then I say come here but if you like and enjoy good food land like to have a dining experience where you can hear the people at your table speaking to you then by all means skip this place. My family and I came here for the first time on New Year's Eve. We originally had plans somewhere else but they cancelled on us last minute so I saw Trattoria Di Meo had an available table outside. I will say the indoor dining space is a lot nicer than the outdoor but it didnt matter to us because the food was so delicious! Our appetizers were to die for- crab and avocado tower and burrata with proscuitto and fig (both specials). All of our main dishes were also amazing. Our waiter was incredible- so funny and so helpful. Our food also came out super fast- especially for a busy night on a holiday. I highly recommend this place. I went the night of a snow storm and got there early. The parking lot was nearly empty and I wondered if they were open. Everyone from the valet parking to the host and hostess were very friendly. The decor is very nice. I had a great meal, and I swear it seemed the list of specials was longer than the menu. After I had been there an hour, I noticed the place was packed. So if you read my other reviews, you know i compare italian food places to a certain group of top italian joints in Staten island, and Brooklyn (& trattorialincontro in queens). When i first try any new italian restaurant for the first time i like to order lasagna, its a very simple dish that so many places can do so wrong. my wife decided to try the shrimp fra diavolo. after 20 minutes or so my sausage platter topped with soft noodles had arrived. yes you read that correctly! Ive never had soo much sausage stuffed into lasagna EVER!!! its was way to over powering. My wifes 5 nothing to brag about shrimp were served with a tiny plate of liguini. in all, the portions are small, the sauce is decent, the food although edible is not prepared in a traditional sense. Hardly justified the $70 bill i paid for two small dishes and one alcoholic beverage. You can get better food at Mamma Theresa's, Umbertos, Vincents or Pirandello for less! read more

The room has been updated nicely but the acoustics probably weren't taken into consideration. People were literally screaming at each other in order to converse. Disappointing to say the least. This was my second time going to Trattoria Di Meo after a hiatus of more than a year. I remember the Calamari Fra Diavolo being a nice dish, so I ordered it again. Last time, I must have had it with a large portion of pasta. Tonight, it was on the smaller side and I received the vegetable of the day (string beans in marinara sauce) on the side. I mixed them together, but it was not entirely filling. It's a smaller restaurant; not too tiny, but small enough that when conversation picks up it gets on the louder side. It draws a pretty affluent crowd, which I could tell based on the number of Mercedes in the Valet lot. That's another thing, you pretty much have to get your car parked by the valet, which I find to be a bit snobby (though some view it as making the place classy; perhaps simply more self-aware of its own imposed classiness?). The menu is pricey; my parents had the veal chop, which I thought was a bit overpriced, and a half-carafe of house red was $15.50. Overall, it's a decent restaurant that charges higher prices because it's located in a rich town on the North Shore. Not the best Italian restaurant in the area, but they give you a good enough meal. read more
