Raspberry Croissant: It's in the shape of croissant and the dough seems layered like a croissant, but it felt more like a doughnut. Yeasty dough and a glazed exterior. Plus that raspberry filling. Not what I was expecting, but pretty good. Zucchini Bread: Kinda like those giant pound cake slices at Starbucks, but tasting more homemade. Like you can see the little flecks of zucchini skin. A good pairing with coffee. Quiche Lorraine: Substantial. Lots of egg and big chunks of ham. All encased in buttery dough. Not quite as a fancy as you'd get at a proper French restaurant, but did the trick for a savory breakfast item. read more

Maybe it was just a one-off awkward encounter, but this place didn't feel like a good time. The two servers behind the counter were quite snappy and uninviting when I had questions. Most of the stuff I wanted (La Crazy taco, Mochi, and a savory hand pie) were not available. I ended up getting a bacon taco, cause it was either that or a veggie taco. There's nothing special about these things. The guy pulls the pre wrapped taco and warms it up, telling me that these are not made fresh to order. A starchy, bland tortilla with a fairly creamy egg bacon mixture that has no other seasoning or flair. The bacon isn't crispy and comes off like ham most of the time. I stopped in here on my way out of the city for a quick breakfast. I picked up an iced chai latte with oat milk and an everything bagel. They have a station where you can customize your coffee and where you can toast your our bagel (which I really appreciate). There is plenty of space if you want to sit down and enjoy your time there and a few spots out front to do the same. Anything else aside from the chocolate chip cookie. Me: Nah. That's it. So the cookie was delicious and the coffee is heavenly. Normally I'm more a punch me I. The mouth and wreck my guts with intensity when it comes to how I like my coffee, but I think the friendly and lovely sweet vibes of this barista made it into my coffee and by consuming it is now intertwined with my being. I don't mind the subtle notes or the smooth drinkability. V sweet spot. Tones of outlets if your looking to plug in. It's hot humid and beautiful outside and instead of walking into a freezer box, the temp is a magical transition from outside to inside. We were excited to find a cute coffee place within walking distance of our apartment. The barista behind the counter was so incredibly rude and demeaning in the way he spoke to us. My friend asked for an iced drink with Ghirardelli syrup, and he replied that "there was a detailed menu," she could refer to, followed by a condescending comment, "have you ever been to a coffee shop before?" What is the attitude for? Our group did nothing but want to support a local shop. We are all industry staff and still left a 35% tip because we understand people have bad days. 3.5 stars It's really sad that it took me so long to go to The Orange Couch, as my grandmother lives in the Faubourg Marigny not three hundred feet from there. Anyway, while visiting a few Sundays past, we opted to take a stroll (we were literally pushing our son in his stroller) there. The first thing I noticed was this chicken (looked like a rooster to me) hanging outside by one of the sidewalk tables. Not sure what that was all about or where it even came from, but it was definitely odd. I immediately got the feeling that this store wasn't kid friendly, as only one of the 2 small French doors to the business was able to be opened. Therefore, it was necessary to unstrap my lil man and carry him inside. Tragedy? Not really. But it was a little irritating. What if I had been physically challenged and my wheelchair had not been able to fit through the door? But I digress. Aside from the white paint and white furniture (I'll get back to that in a bit), I was first struck at how incredibly quiet it was. It made a library seem like a noisy venue. I think you could have literally heard the proverbial pin drop. In fact, I thought about writing my order down on a piece of paper and handing it to the barrista so as not to disturb anyone. Pros, Cons & Observations: 1. I agree with Teneha B. that the decor had a Scandanavian feel about it. The furniture definitely looked like it was from Ikea (not a bad thing), especially the official orange couch with the stainless steel legs. (Unfortunately there were 2 people siiting on the orange couch so I could not sit on this cafe's namesake couch). The bright white paint and white fruniture only solidified this feeling. The concrete floors were bare of any paint, but polished nonetheless. 2. The barista was very friendly when we approached the counter, and I'm surprised no one shushed us as we ordered our coffee since no one else in the entire place was saying a word. I ordered an iced coffee and the barista took her time to tell me how they used USDA certified organic coffee supplied by the Orleans Coffee Exchange. She even let me snap a picture of the roast they were using that day (Sumatra Gayoland French). All I know is this was a smooth iced coffee with no bitterness at all. My wife got a green tea infused shake. This is your basic milkshake, albeit a little thicker; which is good. However, it is made by infusing it with green tea. However, the tea was a little too subtle for my liking, as I would have prferred a more pronounced "tea taste". 3. Although we did not get one (shame on us), Orange Couch sells mochi ice cream. For those of you not fortunate enough to have tried it, it is a "dessert consisting of a soft Japanese rice cake (mochi) on the outside and ice cream filling (flavored) on the inside. Be warned that once you try it, it's hard to stop. I'd sware it was infused with some addicting ingredient like crack. Well maybe not crack. But it's awful tasty and I highly recommend it. Don't get me wrong and think I don't like this place because I did not give this place 4 stars and say I am a fan. At 3.5 stars they are close and I plan on giving them another try. There is definitely an orange couch here in case you are wondering. This is a pretty good place to get work done with FREE WIFI. The table legs were a little uneven, but it was stable enough after putting some cardboard on the shorter leg. Surprisingly, there were Asian goodies here. Mochi looked delicious but I did not have any during my visit and I got the chai latte instead. I'll definitely come back here. read more

Friends lined up for coffee in a very long queue. I asked them to order my coffee as I went to the restroom. Basically got yelled at by someone at the register in front of the whole shop to purchase coffee first. I tried to quietly explain that I was purchasing coffee through a friends He cut me off. I left embarrassed in front of the whole shop. Was that really necessary? If the rules are so important, please consider posting a sign instead of choosing to embarrass someone in front of the whole shop. This is a cute little coffee shop in a pleasant little neighborhood. It has coffee drinks, treats,ice cream, and mochi. I did not try anything, because I was just stopping in to check it out. My review is based solely on the inside and the atmosphere. The staff seemed nice, they let me come in and cool off after being outside in the heat. I sat on the orange couch (imagine that) and it was comfortable. Laid back, chill atmosphere in a nice quiet neighborhood. The Orange Couch is the definition of a cool, neighborhood, coffee shop. The space is bright and cool; all white, except for the namesake orange couch in the middle of the room. There are lots of tables and different seating options, even a couple of nice tables outside. They serve lots of beverages. I had a weak Latte from there once, but they have great Vietnamese Iced Coffee and other drinks. I love the vibe and there and really want to try some of their food! I've been coming here almost daily for a few months and not once has it disappointed me. The baristas are awesome and friendly and the drinks are quickly made and good. The Vietnamese iced coffee is great and I think they are one of the only coffee shops that has Thai tea on the menu +1! Love this place. So conveniently located on Royal, this place is amazing to visit or study. They have oatmilk, which I appreciated in my cold brew. They also have vegan and non-vegan food options like chicken from the kitchen. But it's mainly vegan. They have ice cream and mochi as well as a variety of breads. Mochi?! In New Orleans?! I've never heard of such a thing! Alright, well I've always had Mochi filled with red bean or something similar, Mochi with ice cream is pretty creative! Well I actually stumbled upon this place through a few friends of mine who live near the location, and they said it was worth the try! Just looking at these little puff balls filled with happiness (ice cream), I had to go out of my way to make a detour on my way to the University! The place opens at seven, and the location is pretty convenient in that it's in the center of a small neighborhood. Not too sketchy either. Upon entering, the employee was courteous in that he walked me through the various Mochi flavors after I had ordered my Chai Tea Latte. So lets get down to the REAL stuff! The Chai Tea Latte - Honestly, it wasn't too bad, good quality, nice, delicate cloud on top with a bit of cinnamon! I didn't even have to add sugar! It was strong, but not too strong, and the coffee itself was a great way to start off my morning! Additionally, I got three Mochi ice cream balls, around $5.50. I had to try at least three flavors! Here's what I got: Green Tea Mochi - Let me start off by saying that the fact that the Mochi goes so well with the thin flour layering around it is the reason why this little treat is so EPIC! The soft outer layer is surprising, and as soon as you reach the center to get a taste of the cold, delectable ice cream, I was almost in disbelief! How could something so wrong taste so right? It's almost as if the texture threw me off! Than as I tasted the ice cream while lightly chewing through the Mochi, it was like being in heaven. The light taste of green tea along with a cold refreshing center was just enough to make my entire day. Raspberry White Chocolate Mochi - "The purple one, I'll have the purple one," I said to myself in silence as I peered through the clear case holding the little treasures. The unique color is what truly brought me to choosing the flavor, and the fact that one could even blend raspberry with white chocolate in what already seems to be a pretty delicate dessert by itself amazed me! The white chocolate made the Mochi smooth, and the touch of raspberry was what really made the Mochi POP! Not literally, because than we'd have some problems seeing as I just scarfed down one... Chocolate Coconut Mochi - The chocolate coconut Mochi was actually pretty good, not amazing, but not bad. The light outer layer is, again, what truly makes the dessert spectacular. The chocolate was more evident than anything else, and the coconut was also somewhat light! Overall, the parking was convenient, not too cluttered, just how I like it! The coffee was amazing, and just like every other review, Macs, EVERYWHERE! It's extremely relaxing, and if I lived a bit closer, this would be my MAIN place to go for studying purposes! read more

It's not like I want to write this review update, but with so many check-ins and so many sub par experiences lately, I feel like I can't keep up a five star review or people won't trust me anymore. Take this as you will, for I used to really dig most of the staff here and even the ones that weren't as kick ass were at least nice. My visits lately have been pretty lackluster or downright bad. Last week, I almost threw out a lukewarm iced coffee with almond milk that was all separated and gross looking (this is purely aesthetic, though-- the milk is not actually bad when this happens)... I should have handed it back, but I didn't want to rock the boat after my guy had the audacity to ask for an espresso milkshake. "WHO ORDERS THAT?" I've said to him before. He's like, "someone does, it's on the menu" but still. Ok, fine, order the milkshake. And when he did, I braced myself, because I knew what the response would be. "That's going to take 10 minutes," in not the nicest tone. I mean, it was clear the chick didn't want to make it. I would have said forget it, but this inspired him to take her up on the 10 minute milk shake challenge (sigh). Look, I used to have this job. I used to be a grouchy barista at times, too and I regret it. I probably shouldn't have been working on those days where I was coming to work straight from another job and the last thing I wanted to do was throw anything in a blender. I admit it! I've learned from my mistakes, though. I've spent years waiting tables, making coffee and bartending. We can't always be shiny happy people for the masses. But it's not an isolated incident and so, I'm not going back. There are too many other coffee shops where I don't feel like I'm a nuisance when I"m walking through the door. Especially when two coffee drinks with tip amounts to about 10 dollars. I'm fine with spending that when I'm not brewing at home, but I don't want to deal with grumpiness on top of that. read more
