We tried to walk-in to a couple of breakfast restaurants and we needed reservations for both. We kept walking and found this great place. The wait was only 20ish minutes. Once we were sat, our waitress was attentive and very friendly. She took our drink order quickly and kept refilling coffee. We both ordered seafood benedicts with a side of bacon. The bennys were absolutely delicious. The side of bacon was insane!! so much bacon! Definitely try this breakfast place in the FQ!

On the Friday before Mardi Gras, my lifelong friend and I have a tradition of going to breakfast before all of the shenanigans and walking parades kick off in the FQ. Our goal every year is to find somewhere new, and Cafe FDL definitely fit the bill this year. There is quaint seating on the first and second floor, and it feels like there's not going to be enough room, but the wait isn't bad. The service was quick and attentive, and the food was hot and filling. The alcohol was... alcohol. What's there to say about that? Price wise, it was reasonable, and it was filling enough that I wasn't hungry when I left, nor was I ill-prepared for any shenanigans that the say might bring. Definitely a solid choice for breakfast in the Quarter. Not fancy, but filling!

Checked this place out for breakfast bright and early at 7am! Good option for the early morning. Service was quick and helpful. The inside gave a cozy diner feel to me. Lots of breakfast items looked tasty with a southern twist. I tried the eggs Benedict with hash browns and got a hot latte. The latte was super smooth and delicious. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hash browns were nice and crispy. The grits were really creamy and yummy too, just too heavy for me to finish it all. Solid breakfast options for early birds!

Kinda touristy, but still solid. Clean and great service right in the French Quarter. I had the sampler meal, which hit the spot and was certainly mild (but great flavor!). It's a good spot to show someone the most basic of cajun/southern cuisine.

Our service was top-notch. We ran in during a huge rainstorm. The server gave us towels to dry off with. Our food came quickly and was steaming hot. We both had omelets with grits and toast and I had the best spicy Bloody Mary I can recall having. This place is clean, friendly, and so welcoming. Give it a try!

We had a great experience here! The space is bright and inviting. Server was warm and friendly. Food was . A great spot in the quarter! Order was Creole Country with a side of hash browns. It was fresh, delicious, and satisfying.

The Bourbon Street Breakfast Platter comes with a shot of jack daniels. Super sweet. I wasn't a fan, but my husband loved it

This spot was sooooo goood!!! Specially the grits, BEST grits of my life. It was sooooo good I went back a second time. I never eat at the same place twice on vacation unless I love it. We don't make reservations but they out our name down and sent us a text when our seats were ready. You have to check in within 5 mins of receiving the text message. We sat on the balcony with a nice little view of French Quarters. Our waitress was kind and helpful when it came to deciding what I wanted. I ordered: The Fleur de Lis omelette 5/5 Side of grits 10/5 Iced coffee 1/5 My husband ordered the Bourbon Street Breakfast Platter comes with a shot of jack daniels. Super sweet. I wasn't a fan, but my husband loved it. It was pecan and bananas pancakes. On our last morning we went back and each ordered the grits. We got a lot more to go for a side order. Came in a nice to go container. Overall, I'd be back! Until next time.

After all the alcohol yesterday, I needed something good! Never had a fried grit cake before so I ordered that and the avocado bowl! Holy hell! Couldn't finish either but the grit cake is so freaking good! Get it for the table! Your taste buds will thank you! The bowl of salad is a good start to the day because I know I'm going to eat bad later! Go there. Get some. Life is too short for boring food!!!!

Oh man, this was the highlight of my visit. It was amazing. Best grits I ever had, catfish perfectly cooked. Very clean, nice lighting and great customer service. It was a vibe but the food was the star of the show for sure.

As soon as we walked in we were asked if we wanted patio or indoors which was nice that we had a say in that. We were immediately seated and given a minute to go over the menu. Our server was friendly and definitely knew her menu & her suggestions were 10/10! The portions were just right as we had an appetite. I told my boyfriend if I could have licked my plate clean I sure would have!! That's how good this place was. If you're looking for a nice brunch place this is where it's at! :)

Cool breakfast experience for us. We were lucky enough to get balcony seating overlooking the street. Kinda reminded me of dining in certain parts of Europe. The balcony itself is quite long compared to what you expect to see in Europe, of course. The main highlight for us remained the food. We ordered fried green tomatoes, which was the first here to actually be vegetarian. This reminded me of what we ate in Charleston earlier in the summer. Super yummy. Loved the aioli dip, which had a bit of a kick to it. I also got the avocado omelet. It was very hearty. Maybe a bit too much, which I attribute to the goat cheese. I decided to get some hash browns to split with my girl. Those were pretty good. Just loved the overall ambiance, I def recommend.

    Oyster Benedict, grits, beignets- amazing!
    JD M.

Sunday morning, sat at the bar. Friendly bartender. Chicory coffee, beignets. Coffee not hot, bartender made a fresh pot and all was well. Beignets seemed like biscuits with powdered sugar, but quite tasty. Followed up with Oyster Benedict and grits. Oh my! Every bite was amazing. I wanted to lick the plate! As for ambiance- it's bright, clean, uncluttered, with wood chairs that were good for an hour or so.

Shrimp and grits were my fav plate during my short stay in the area. Amazing texture on the grits (not too runny) and flavorful. The shrimp were covered in a delicious sauce and cooked perfectly. Beignets were different from all the other places I tried but were also delicious Service was a bit slow but I'm rating the place 5/5 on food alone. Busy interior with not a lot of space but the decor was casual and inviting

Is this restaurant able to seat large parties. Say around 20 people?

I would think if you contact them in advance, it might be possible, they have an upstairs area, but that might completely fill the upstairs, so I dont know if it would be beneficial.

    Do they take reservations?

    No they don't.

    Does this business take reservations?

    No they don't

    Do they have WiFi?

    Yes.

    Gluten free beignets? Anyone? Anywhere?

This would not be possible. You could deep fry some gluten free pastry or other but it would not be a beignets if it lack gluten. Gluten is the core of what makes a beignet a beignet.

The presentation of the food came was amazing. We ordered the linguine and added meatballs, which was well worth it. We also ordered the shrimp & grits, which included Brussels sprouts. Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. I always appreciate the staff's efforts by making simply making eye contact and smiling (which they did). Seems trivial but I think those small things says a lot about a business. I would recommend this restaurant even if you are not a guest of the hotel.

The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim.
