I have been coming here, driving up to 60 miles out of my way, for decades. I can't say enough about the orange juice. It is fresh squeezed and unpasteurized. You have to drink it fast or get it straight to refrigeration so as to avoid botulism. It's worth it. Best OJ you will ever have. I'm also a big fan of the honeys and jams. They are only open seasonal, so get it while the getting is good. With that being said, I have to say my last stop here was somewhat unpleasant. I came in the store, so happy to be there, and was greeted by two people behind the counter. One was a younger woman, wearing a shirt that said she had an allergy to mornings. Lol. She smiled and was kind. However her counterpart was an older woman who treated me like I had done her wrong. It was so obvious that she didn't want to be there, or didn't want me to be there, that when we left, my boyfriend asked "Did you try to flirt with her husband or something?" I understand that life happens and we can't always be in a good mood, but as a former retailer her demeanor was unacceptable. The store would have been better off without her in it. (I suspect she is part ownership.) This is why I give 3 instead of 5 stars. If it wasn't for the OJ and the other staff member, I would have given them 1 star. read more

Nice blast from the past from when Citrus Tourism was a roadtrip on 301 sort of thing. I had set thus as a destination having read about it in a citrus history book. They have samples of what they grow, I went with the " Hamilins". These folks had to use old school " smudge pots" when it hit 26f the other day. A much nicer take than those "Citrus Centers" that advertise heavily on the interstates, and have both live baby alligator displays and decapitated gator heads, barbarous. So happy that we finally stopped here on our way home from Florida this morning! Passed it so many times during our past travels and always said "wow we should stop next time and check it out"; and we finally did. We were immediately greeted and offered a sample of ice cold fresh squeezed orange juice; it was incredibly delicious and refreshing as it's a warm humid day here in Florida. We purchased a 5 lb bag of orange and a quart of juice to take back to North Carolina. They have so much more to offer than fruit and juice; tee shirts, souvenirs, coconut patties, candies, snacks and gift baskets. Service was friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are located in the back of the store just go through the back door. They also offer complimentary coffee. We stop here every year after thanksgiving if we can make it before they close. My husband loves the page oranges and his mom loves the navels. This is a cute old style Florida side of the road orange shop. They have a variety of marmalade's, honey, sweets, treats, and orange peeling or sipping gadgets. They have gator/ pork jerky too. I really like the fact that they have marmalade made without sugar as well! Sweetened with grape juice instead. I bought a jar. I'll update my review once I've tried it. You can also sample some of the oranges that they have cut, which have a good sweet taste to them. I haven't tried the grapefruit yet. This brings me to my only wish, which is why only 4 out of 5 stars. I wish they had smaller size servings. I don't need or want an entire bag of grapefruit. I'd be good with a 4-8 pack. Oranges: we both eat and would be gone before they go bad. One last thing: they gave fresh squeezed OJ and grapefruit juice. Always a great experience I frequently have stopped at this location many times over the course of the last 10 years. On family drives/trips to south Florida. I never got around to making a review until I bought some fruit. Sometimes it's open and sometimes it's not and sometimes you're lucky to get to go inside. Lol. The best time to go is in the winter months when the fruit is being harvested. We recently stopped in because they had a buy one get one free 5 pound bag of grapefruit and oranges. We sampled the grape-fruit slices on the inside. They also offer fruit samples and juice samples both of which were phenomenal. They also have a plethora of different orange blossom honey's and different treats and snacks for kids and adults alike. If it's something edible or drinkable that involves oranges you will find it here. As for the grape-fruit. I kept one bag for myself and gave one of the bags away to a family member. The 5 pounds of grapefruit roughly 18-20 pieces, lasted me about 30 days before the fruit started to get a little funky tasting. Lol. **Overall I've always had a great experience at this place when the fruit is not available we frequently stop and get just a juice to-go. I feel absolutely ripped off by this store! I paid over $12 for a bag of pink grapefruit and they are in terrible condition. The lady in store told me there are about 18-20 pieces of fruit in a 5 pound bag. I got exactly 10 of which 4 are rotten (1 I already threw out. not pictured) and some look disgusting. I paid $2 per piece of fruit. They know many people are just driving through and won't be able to return these rotten products. I am so ticked off. The owner should be ashamed! Part 2 - Since I wrote the initial review we opened the bag of oranges and this did nothing to salvage the situation. We purchased red oranges, but received dry stringy navel oranges. So the signs in front of the store are not reliable. The bags should be marked so there is a way you can verify what you are getting. I can buy better and cheaper naval oranges at Aldi. On Saturday March 13, 2021 my husband and I decided to stop by this shop on our way home from visiting family in the area. Since he loves oj and isn't a native Floridian I wanted him to try some authentic fresh Florida oj. When we walked in there was only one other couple in the shop. The two older women at the counter looked up and never spoke. I even walked up to the counter due to the juice being behind the counter and they continued their conversation. I immediately told my husband let's go I will not spend my money here. The other couple left as well when they heard what I said, from the shop empty handed. This was obviously a waste of our time. These ladies need to be more aware of their customers and continue your conversation at a later time when your potential customers leave. read more

Maybe it wasn't the best decision I've made - to send oranges to my friends in California, but I wanted to send them the box of fruit, jams and coconut patties like the one my grandparents sent to us in Connecticut when I was a kid. First off - I ordered the Sunshine Deluxe gift which clearly depicts a box of fruit, jams and boxed coconut patties - all pretty and looks like it would be a great gift to receive, right? Wrong. First - I called to check if the orders had been shipped and I was told they couldn't send me an email with the shipping tracking, that she could tell me the tracking number but had no way to email me the information (it's 2018). She then checked with someone and said she'd send an email with the tracking info. My friends received boxes with jam and individually wrapped coconut patties (see pic), not a boxed package like in the pretty picture and what I thought I was purchasing - and no note of who it was from, even though I'd filled that information out on their shop form. My friends knew I was in Florida, so they texted to ask if it was from me. No fruit had been delivered. I called and talked to Pamela who said she'd look into it and call me back. Still haven't heard from her, but my friends got their boxes of fruit - and that's a generous noun - which were unfit to eat and barely usable in a Charmosa. What is a Charmosa? you ask. My neighbor Bob mixes OJ with Chardonnay - and let me tell you, they are yummy! But not with bruised and smelly oranges from The Orange Shop. Yes, smelly - that is how Bob described one of the oranges he cut into. Poor guy just wanted a Charmosa on a Saturday afternoon. I should have packed up a dozen oranges from Publix - they would have been much better quality. No one ever told me that fruit to CA would be shipped separately. No one said the fruit would actually BE from 1936 when the store opened. Pete and Cindy Spyke - the owners - if you're reading this, you need better training for your employees regarding shipping practices, quality control, accountability and customer service protocols to be followed (or even implemented). Pamela made a point to tell me that they ate the cost of shipping the fruit separately . . . . too bad that was the only thing edible. read more

A little slice of sweet history~ if you have driven 301- you probably passed this Florida gem. Closed or open, you see the signs leading to the storefront. This shop opened it's doors in 1936 and I believe is the oldest/longest opened citrus store in Florida! Just WOW. Over the years I have managed to stop during season- usually at least once a year. I grab marmalades, honey, fruit, candies and even bought an orange straw- for sipping juice directly from the fruit! I have tasted their orange juice and tried the various oranges! Honeybells are my favorite- hands down! I admit their prices have gone up to a touristy trap style- but I love shopping local, and I love the history behind this little shop. Annnddddd..... they are only open part of the year, so here- take my money! lol Be sure to stop in! read more

Orange you glad you're here? You will be once you arrive! :) This once popular Roadside Attraction has been in operation since 1936 and that, for a Roadside Attraction, is a very long time. Yes they have a large orange grove and sell oranges but they also ship them out for you. Not just oranges but all their many cousins i.e. tangerines, navels, honeybells and more. Their store carries some other items: candies, jellies, citrus utensils, homemade fudge and T-shirts & other souvenirs. Easily this would be a 5 star review but their staff is pitiful. Charming citrus store selling Florida citrus, honey, and trinkets. -Exterior: clean l, decent amount of parking, safe and more "rural" area. -Parking: recent amount of parking as stated previous with handicapped parking spot. -Interior: clean with lots of things to buy at reasonable prices. -bathroom: male and female restrooms. Both clean. On our way back to Tampa, we stopped in and bought a 5lbs bag of oranges for $11.95. Decent deal for tasty oranges. We also picked up some local Tupelo honey for $17.95. The service was fine and the people operating the store were nice. I'd go back for some delicious fresh squeezed OJ. I tried some there and was not disappointed. This review is about The Orange Shop in Citra, FL. On 12-07-2020 I decided to order a combo box they offered containing navel oranges and grapefruit. That is all my wife and I wanted among the offerings, but come to find out that they had a special running which had exactly those two options along with some honey and some candy, and also included free shipping. All for just a few dollars more. So that seemed the obvious choice to select. I believe it was called their "Sunshine Deluxe". According to the picture, I believe I should have gotten 12 navel oranges, and 12 grapefruits. What I received on 12-15-2020 was 6 navel oranges, 7 grapefruits, and 7 unidentifed tangerines, which looked a lot like Satsumas. And bad Satuma tangerines at that. Upon opening the box, it was very obvious that the Satsumas looked and smelled like they were well past their prime. I sent an email to The Orange Shop on 12-16-20 to ask for an explanation, as I did not receive what I had ordered, nor was any contact attempted to alert us of a substitution, much less ask if we would be OK with this change. I also attached pics to show them what we had received and requested some sort of explanation. Never received a reply, so on 12-26-2020 I sent another email about this issue, and again I never heard a reply back from them. I did receive automated responses indicating that they had received both emails, but obviously once they had my money, they weren't much interested in further communications with me. So rather than just let the fruits rot while waiting for a reply from them, we did try each of the fruits, and found the tangerines to be only worth being thrown into the compost pile, the navels were dried with little to no juice, whereas juiciness is typical for this type of orange, and the grapefruits so small that they must have been the "runts of the litter" from their groves. So not only did we not receive what we ordered, and received less fruit than we had ordered and paid for, but the fruit quality overall was way below par for being worth eating. And still The Orange Shop refuses to address the issue with any sort of reply. You can spend your money with them if you would like, but take my experience to heart and consider that I probably am not alone with how I was treated by them. If it happened to me, it certainly can happen to you, too. There are other suppliers of fresh Florida citrus out there, and in my opinion, you would be much better served looking elsewhere if quality is what you are after with your purchase. IMHO. My sister and I passed this place our way out to Ocala and, although, she's a local, I'm a tourist and have no shame. Therefore, it wasn't even an option to NOT stop here! I mean, yeah it's a little kitchsy, but that's part of the fun. They had a great selection of jams and marmelades and believe me, we sampled them all on the wheat thins they had out. The guava was my favorite... We did wind up each getting a pint of orange juice-it had the date it was squeezed and bottled. Maybe I am naive or was just plain delirious in the middle of nowhere, but it was hands down the best OJ I've ever had. Stopped by the Orange Shop for some fresh, local oranges. Hey how can you miss fresh oranges and orange juice when you are driving back home from Florida? Shop was right on the highway and had plenty parking. Bags of oranges were laying outside the shop for you to choose and pick and ofcourse pay inside. Inside of the shop was cute, they had lots of stuff, orange related stuff (ofcourse). They were selling honey and that moment I was thinking if that was made out of oranges (what an idiot) Lots of samples of all the orange varieties they had that day, and also samples of orange and grapefruit juice. Orange was damn good, freshly squeezed, sweet and delicious. The shop keepers could smile and greet their customers, I felt a little hospitality was missing and that could help their business for sure. Don't know why both the ladies had no smile on their faces and gave only short answers when we asked some questions. Felt a little awkward. read more

Last year a purchased a box of the Honeybells and they were the sweetest oranges I had ever tasted. I was so excited to get them this year but I cannot believe how disappointed I was. The first one was so sour, I tossed it out. Subsequent ones were a bit sweeter but no better than an orange from my local grocery in the Northeast. I didn't mind paying $3+ when they were delicious but this year they definitely were not worth it. I recently placed an order for a 4 tray of ruby red grapefruit from Florida Orange Shop . I found them on line by asking Siri as an older lady, I'm not savy in newfangled computer or iPhone but managed to get my order placed. I couldn't wait to find the sunshine on door step in cold Michigan and start making baskets for my friends. In going thru the order there were some spoiled / bruised fruits so I inquired perhaps the Fed ex bounced it around a bit much or was too warm in truck . I was so fortunate to get a response in minutes from Karina at the ORANGE SHOP who was eager to replace and very patient with old ladies I explained I wasn't complaining just wanted them to know. she told me that the huric hit them severely and some fruits got blown off the trees causing a discoloration on some. ! Karina was so patient and wanting to make me happy and I wanted her to know just by explaining made me happy and I want them to stay in business forever!! if only more business could take a hint and a lesson on how to make customers happy and come back from this dear girl , it would do them well. The flat of Sevilles I received were totally unusable. Most were still partly green, a couple were mushy on the navel end, and all of them had lesions. Sevilles are not juicing oranges - they are sour. You need the peel and all for making marmalade, so I just wasted a lot of time and money for nothing. I'm sure the quality from this seller is different when you can hand-pick your own tray, but selling these bad oranges by internet is inexcusable. read more

This shop on 301 in the tiny community of Citra, Florida, is cool and carries a decent selection of citrus plus honey, some candies, and other tourist-oriented Florida foods and dry goods. I don't believe its selection however is as good as the citrus store at the High Springs exit for I-75 or the one like it off I-75 just north of Ocala. Florida honey--gallberry and palmetto especially--is amazing and something, perhaps even over the oranges, every tourist should try at least once for a sample of our state's agriculture. read more

From citra, navel, and tangerine, to grapefruits. I have never had any problems except when the shipper damaged some and those were quickly replaced. I will order more myself. If you don't that's ok. When we asked if the Valencia oranges were good for eating we were given an emphatic, "yes!" However, when we got home we found that they are way too fibrous and pulpy to even begin to eat.
