Central Park Deli was the first restaurant on the list to participate. The article said mention the ad from Troy Times or Facebook to get the 20% off your bill. Afterwards, save your receipt to turn into the Troy school of your choice. The school that collects the most money in receipts will win $1,000 cash prize. Unfortunately the employees said no, we aren't participating in that and other customers mention this and we won't honor the discount. I showed them the FB announcement where their Deli was clearly listed and they still said No. ??? This made me frustrated. My total for a wrap, cauliflower bites, and a drink was $22. No discount. False advertising and unpleasant customer service. I posted the Facebook announcement of their restaurant listed below in my pictures. On the positive side, the deli is very clean and food was delicious. Their menu is extensive with many choices of wraps, salads, sandwiches and soup. I appreciate you can customize your wrap with a gluten-free wrap and not many delis in the area have that option.

They have an extensive menu to include vegetarian options which was nice to see. They also have many local brands to include chips, sodas, and other small local business products (caramelized nuts, baked goods, etc.)! On the topic of local businesses, they also had a board which allowed local owners to post business cards and event alerts, fantastic for drawing the community together. Now, I ordered a Reuben as a lover of corned beef and sauerkraut. It was delicious and sizeable, a fair portion size for the money as well. The chips were also delicious having gone for the salt, pepper, and onion variety. A solid crunch and bursting with flavor. Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. Overall, Oak House Deli is solid and delicious and I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area!

So, I got around to trying Embers Deli in Bloomfield Hills, MI…read more As usual for my first visit to a new deli, I ordered chopped liver on rye. Chopped liver takes Ashkenazi culinary skill and no deli sandwich can be great unless the rye is great, too. The liver was ok, *not* great. It had a subtle but unusual under-taste, like maybe a spritz of pickle juice was added. But it was still ok. I will definitely return to Embers to try their other fare because the service is excellent, just top-notch and the atmosphere is very, very haimish. It reminds me of all the Bronx delis we used to frequent in the 1960s and early 1970s. And the rest of Embers' menu looks good, although typical for MoTown a bisl lacking in variety, e.g., no kishke, no knishes, no schmaltz herring, etc. But for ambience, it's now my favorite in the region. And it was crowded, jam-packed with Landsleyt and allies on a Monday lunch hour.

But the food was good as usual and the server was very friendly and professional. When checking out I noticed that they charge 3.5% if pay via credit card. I know restaurants are now charging this extra amount for using a credit card which I understand. I ended up using a DEBIT gift card (as good as cash) but when I got the receipt to add a tip I noticed they still charged me the 3.5%. I mentioned this nicely to what I believe was the owner / manager who was checking me out. He immediately said I hate these DEBIT gift cards in a very frustrating tone as it seemed he was directing the comment toward me. I said I do not understand why I was charge the 3.5%. He just proceeded to go into the cash register and throw down $1.00 on the counter and said here you go with a sarcastic tone. Left with a very unpleasant experience provided by a senior employee member.

Their tuna is unreal--dangerously good--and the corned beef is everything you'd hope for and more. I'll be honest: when you walk up, the place doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside, it feels like a small, old‑school grocery store that hasn't changed much over the years. But don't let that fool you for a second. This is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" spots where the food does all the talking--and it speaks loud and clear. Star Deli is a staple, and honestly, I feel like I shouldn't even have to explain why it's great. It's been here forever because it deserves to be. If you're not getting Star Deli, wow--you're seriously missing out. This place is an absolute classic, and the food is nothing short of amazing. ---

I don't dine in, so my reviews are exclusively based on my take out experience. I have moved out of town so I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy them as much as I used to. Their chicken soup is phenomenal. Absolutely the standard for what chicken soup should be. Fresh carrots, shredded white meat chicken and flavorful broth. Their kreplach are tender and filled with nicely ground and seasoned meat as well. Corned beef and pastrami are excellent and fresh. Chicken and tuna salads are both moist without being soggy and well flavored. The carrot cake is moist and delicious as well. The only thing is that you will pay dearly for the experience. I had the usual for my first time at a new deli, ie, chopped liver on rye. This time I had chicken soup with kreplach, too. It was excellent. Thus far, I would have to rank Steve's among the 3 or 4 best around these parts in terms of quality and probably *the* best in terms of variety. Service was outstanding, too. A plus: unlike most delis, Steve's actually has more than just salads to offer my vegan wife. My server was very knowledgable about that, too. So, I brought home a vegetarian "liver" sandwich and a knish for the missus' dinner (and an order of kishke with gravy for me).
