Steve's Deli - A Classic That Never Misses This place has been around since 1995, and it's easy to see why they've stood the test of time. Steve's Deli serves up some of the best deli sandwiches and matzo ball soup around. Their breakfast is also fantastic -- you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My buddy and I came in on a Thursday and got their Thursday special: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, and soup. OMG -- it was so delicious. Huge portions, full of flavor, and very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. On top of the great food, the service here has always been top-notch. Every visit over the years, they've gone above and beyond. Never had a bad experience. If you're anywhere near Bloomfield Hills and craving comfort food or a classic deli meal, Steve's Deli is absolutely worth the stop.

Club Sandwich

This is a very pricey place Club sandwich with tax and tip was $24 without chips or a drink. I must say it was delicious but for lunch it's a lot of money. That was one of the cheaper items on the menu

Matzo Chicken Matzoh Ball or Kreplach Bagel with Lox, bagel thin, Iced Tea

My boyfriend is a local to the area and introduced to this place last year. I enjoyed being able to try a true authentic Jewish deli as there aren't many in my city. I enjoyed my bagel with lox and the matzo ball soup. I even took a dozen bagels home for my family to try, along with some bread. Would love to go back again when I'm in town.

Dinty Moore Sandwich ($18.99)

Nestled in a strip mall alongside stores ranging from Trader Joe's to Dairy Queen, Steve's Deli in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, serves up nostalgic Jewish deli fare with a classic touch. The restaurant might appear unassuming from the outside, featuring a couple of plastic tables with red-checkered tablecloths, but the interior boasts a sentimental vibe. A countertop full of fresh-baked goods, bright-red booths evocative of a 1950s diner, and TVs broadcasting various sports contribute to its charm. At around noon on a Friday, we were immediately seated, although the restaurant was nearly at capacity. The extensive menu offers a variety of classic diner, breakfast, and deli fare, ranging from Reuben and Hot Corned Beef sandwiches to breakfast dishes like eggs, bacon, and pancakes, along with a plethora of soups, salads, and sides to please anyone. One member of our party ordered the Dinty Moore ($19.99), which features corned beef, lettuce, tomato, and Russian dressing served triple-decker style on white toast. She really liked it--the sandwich was generously stuffed with meat, and the bread was perfectly toasted without making the fresh vegetables too mushy. Another member of our party chose the 1/2 Sandwich and 1/2 Salad Combo ($19.99), selecting a Hot Pastrami Sandwich on Rye and a Cobb Salad. The pastrami sandwich was well-stuffed with juicy, well-seasoned meat that wasn't overly greasy. The Cobb Salad was also a generous portion, featuring mixed greens, roast turkey, bacon, mushrooms, tomato, egg, crumbled blue cheese, avocado, and a balsamic vinaigrette. The salad tasted fresh and crunchy, and she appreciated the variety of toppings. The third member of our party ordered the Bowl of Soup with 1/2 Salad ($19.99), opting for the Lentil Soup and the Steve's Gone Skinny Kale Salad. She appreciated that the soup wasn't overly salty, and the vegetables had a nice texture. The soup also came with a large, crispy bagel chip for dipping. The Steve's Gone Skinny Kale Salad, featuring crisp kale, golden raisins, quinoa, parmesan, pumpkin seeds, onions, and a rice wine vinaigrette, was fresh, though at $18.99 on its own without a protein, it felt overpriced. Lastly, I ordered the Cinnamon French Toast ($14.99), which is listed as a Saturday/Sunday Only special but was available on Friday. The dish comprised six half-slices of dense challah bread soaked in a sweet eggy custard with a thick swirl of cinnamon sauce. It was almost bread-pudding-like in its density, though I wished it were more custardy, as some parts of the toast were borderline dry. However, it was served with a large pitcher of maple syrup and four pats of butter, allowing for customization to taste. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Steve's Deli, though the prices were steep, and we waited over 25 minutes for our food. It's a nostalgic, blast-from-the-past experience with large portions and decent food. If you're willing to pay a premium for it, Steve's Deli is worth checking out!

Potato Latkes

I was super excited. One of our reps from our parent company brought in smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels, and latkes to the office. The salmon smelled pretty good tbh. Once I took my first bite though, I could tell there was a problem. It wasn't fishy but it had a stringy texture and tasted like someone washed it with cleaning solution. I moved onto the latkes hoping that they'd be any good, but unfortunately they also were pretty terrible. It looked and tasted as if someone made them a week ago, and whoever did only used potatoes and eggs because I didn't get any onion or seasoning. To be fair, the bagel and cream cheese was sub par but still edible. In all honesty this is some of the worst food I've had in a while. I usually hate throwing out food but I felt fine dumping my portion into the garbage with the rest of my co-workers. I'm not sure how much better the rest of the food there is but this meal is insulting to Jewish food and borderline anti-Semitic. (sarcasm btw) thx

Bowl of chicken noodle soup comes with bagel crisp
Dawn V.

I've reviewed other menu items before but wanted to review again to give credit where credit is due: Chicken noodle soup: 5 out of 5 stars When it's a chilly day and you're needing comfort or a wonderful take-out gift for a friend feeling down- no matter, this soup is FULL of chicken and noodles and carrots and take-out comes in a beautiful glass jar with sourdough bread. Eating in? See pic- no one beats this soup. And seasoned just enough for you to add your own salt/pepper too. (I HATE salty salty soups that most restaurants serve- nothing you can do once it's over salted) With the additional seating in the large breezeway, you don't feel the Covid crunch Bowl of soup and half sandwich = $15 and that's fair for this quality. (Get the turkey sandwich to maximize value)

Tuna sandwich
Scott E.

Absolutely great Tuna sandwich and even better service from Ashley H. Not a fancy place at all but a traditional deli with lots of options and really good food. No frills, just lots of great smells and great food. We got in and out in less than 30 minutes. Very impressed. We'll be back! Thanks Ashley!

Corned Beef with Coleslaw and Fries
Joe J.

Let me start off with this - overall, the food is good. The corned beef sandwiches are good, the meat is cooked well, fries are usually hot, matzah ball soup features a globe sized matzah ball. There are also a few downfalls. The first is the price. For three of us to have lunch, it was over $80. Again, was it good? Sure. But it surely wasn't that good. The second, they always seem short staffed and their servers seem frustrated. I am not sure if it's because of their lack of support from management, but it's obvious and I feel bad for them. I think this establishment has been around for so long, they are well known in the community and have fallen victim to the classic "well, it's always worked when we do it this way."

Food is really good. For carry out, check your order for accuracy--they don't. And bring plenty of cash.

One of our kids ordered french toast, and somehow we missed that it was topped with a fruit compote. When Mya stopped by the table she immediately saw that my daughter was not happy and asked if she should put a new order in. We declined because we wanted our daughter to try it before she made up her mind, and learn from the experience. Mya came back again and could tell that there was no way this kid was going to eat the french toast. She insisted on putting another order in, saying "I just want her to be happy", and it was clear that she truly meant it. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast - we will be back frequently!

I was a little disappointed initially to be seated at the short bar as it makes me feel like I'm in elementary school due to the height, but this was a busy Saturday morning so I understood as it seems there are limited 2-tops, etc and this visit was at peak hours. It was nice to see the daylight coming through the windows which also made this a relaxing venue. While I was sitting there I was able to observe a lot as the short bar is next to the case displaying many delicious treats. I really laughed to myself as I noticed a couple of future Yelper's (one was 2-year toddler and his probably 4-5 year old sister (possibly celebrating a birthday) make a prompt trip to checkout the dessert offerings first! They were obviously "regulars". I was greeted by one of the wait staff, Mya, who was friendly, served me a coffee and indicated my server would be with me soon. I appreciated seeing the teamwork among the staff. I was eventually served by Owen who was helpful and I ordered an egg white frittata which came with a side of mixed fresh fruit. While I was waiting on my food, I had a vantage point where I could see several entrees come out. I also witnessed one of the two Chefs smiling as he was looking at and preparing the orders which I found interesting. The frittata included spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, apple chicken sausage, and was delicious. I was still a little hungry, so I realized the future Yelpers mentioned earlier had it right, and I ordered a carrot cake cupcake which Owen mentioned was a good choice. The frosting was delicious and the moist carrot cake was tasty as well. The overall restaurant was hustling and bustling on this morning, I had my coffee cup refilled multiple times and even noticed additional children observing the case with the desserts. I enjoyed the overall experience and did not feel rushed at all, but more like a customer!

I did not eat the stir-fried chicken completely because it had a liver and onion taste. Somehow the flavors got mixed together. I have been there with my family many times and it was good. I went to take the food that was not eaten back and told them that it tasted like the liver and onions. The insulting thing is that the manager on duty said that they did not sell liver and onions. I told them that it tasted like that and then the server came over and remembered me and said that I told her that I loved the food and that again was not accurate. I do not understand them not even felling as though they should apologize but became very combative about it like I was trying to get a steak dinner out of it. I said here is the meal and over half was there. I know that it had liver mixed in because I am allergic to liver and spent most of the night puking it up. I was so very disappointed that I looked at them and just left if it is that important for them to be correct than to help a customer it is a shame. I have spent with my family hundreds of dollars there but now that I see that they could care less about customer service and more about being correct I definitely will not return. I can only give a one star but if I could go lower because of the treatment I would.
