Blue balls ... flaky balls ... salty(???) balls .... hmmm.... nice, round, smooth... It's chocolate Donkey (macadamia nut) covered balls, that's what they are!! It's located in a small shop on the mauka (mountain) side of the road just outside of Kainaliu town. If you're looking for a catchy sounding omiyage (present), consider stopping by here and take a look! Support the small businesses, in this case the original shop that created this catchy item that is guaranteed to elicit a chuckle or laugh from the receiver!

CLOSED INDEFINITELY. Drove all the way from Waikoloa as we loved our visit several years ago. Sign on the door that they're closed (until further notice) during what should be business hours. Not noted on their website, yelp, or any other online search.

Three words - unfriendly & overrated. Bought one bag of chocolate covered nuts from the short visit. They are very expensive----way too overly priced. We have tasted and tried others, this place is not that special. Don't get me wrong--they do taste pretty good but it's almost $1 each for the green colored chocolate ball. The two shop staff somehow appeared to be very snobby and unfriendly. Not sure what is their donkey problem.

This is a hip spot with a unique sense of humor. The products are high quality and taste good, but things have changed through the years- which may be a good thing. There is no more "castration room," and several products have been discontinued since new ownership. My friend who has been a regular there for many years was disappointed but still managed to spend a lot of money. She enjoyed connecting with the friendly staff member who had been there since before the changes. Since the global pandemic, they no longer offer samples, but there are plenty of products to choose from. There is a working factory that was closed when we visited due to the holiday. The products are pricey but very good. Those who visited in the past may be a little disappointed with the changes, but the sense of humor is still there with all the balls (macadamia nuts) you could possibly want.

This place is rad. I love sweets and did a search on Yelp for local places. This store was about 10 mins away from our resort and it was our first day on the island so we decided to explore. When I mentioned Donkey Balls to my husband he said "Lets go!". The store is small with to areas. One area sells all the Donkey chocolates and the other side is a cafe where you can order drinks. We walked in and decided to check out the goods before grabbing some coffee to go. The store also has a factory where you can see where the chocolates are made. No one was in there but it was fun to look inside. There are various types of Donkey Balls! The names are hilarious. We ended up buying milk chocolate mint donkey balls and peanut butter balls. Yes they are expensive, but a great souvenir! Great little gifts although again quantity is small and pricey. We ordered a coffee to go and there were some samples of donkey balls at the counter. Fun shop. Free street parking. Friendly staff.

Fun store! Prices are reasonable, for Hawaii. Very funny stuff that just screams take me home!

Donkey Balls Factory and Store is a small storefront that sells balls! All types of balls...donkey balls, chicken balls, monkey balls. Delicious chocolate covered balls! The different balls vary in size and flavors. They have items such as chocolate covered strawberries, bananas, toffee, peanuts, and even chocolate! They really have anything for just about anyone. Their names are really fun as well! They are very funny and catchy, especially for dudes. There's blue balls, salty balls, toasted balls, and oops my nuts are showing. I thought that this place was going to be a large factory where you could see the chocolate being made, but instead it was just a couple windows into a small kitchen area. Nothing spectacular and no one was making any chocolate! The parking can be a little tight because it is only street parking. If you are coming in from Kona the store will be on the left side, so it would be safer to turn around and park on that side. There's a lot of traffic. Pricing is high and the contents are small. I wanted to purchase a whole bunch, but it was expensive. I wish that they had mini sizes so that you could buy for individual people. I just got a few to share with friends.

    Very very good chocolate

Such a fun little spot. Lots of potty humor, but great candy, friendly staff, and good coffee. We loved the Chicken Butter Balls and the Blueberry Cheesecake Balls. Also, their coffee was exceptional. Worth a stop.

Not closed. We were there 8/12/25. Might as well be closed though. Little selection, pretty much a bust.

They have samples of everything out in their gift shop, and they're doing some pretty fun stuff - we absolutely bought a couple bars (as usual, I liked the darkest and my wife liked the lightest chocolate the most, but they were all quite good.) I'd give the *tour*, which they only do a couple times a week, so we had to adjust our schedule a bit to make it to one, a 4/5. It was interesting, but you don't actually get to see any chocolate being made, a lot of it was just discussion (albeit: discussion while standing in a production cacao orchard - I'd never actually *seen cacao trees in person, they are pretty cool! Cool, but also full of spider webs.) They also cut open a fresh, ripe, not-processed-yet cacao bean at the end of the tour, and we got to try a little bit (it's delicious - sweet and fruity, nothing like chocolate. I wish we'd gotten to eat a bit more of it, honestly.) It was an interesting tour, not sure it was worth the extra planning it took to be there for it though - other than the fresh cacao fruit, you don't get anything you can't also try in the gift shop any time of day.

Great mix of products! Hawaiian made and delicious!…read more It's only been open for a few weeks so this was a cool new find. I see I get to be the first to review! Every product in Yay! Candy has a story of local history behind it that the store owners/operators are happy to share. They are very local focused and said they have a very strict policy to only carry products from Hawaiian companies. The owners said they seek out vendors where everything is made on one of the islands and ingredients are source locally when possible. Fair trade when not. So no cheep imports here. We checked a few and couldn't find anything that didn't meet this criteria. The store is ran by a super sweet couple that reminds me of my grandparents and make you feel super welcome when you come in. They have a bit of a sense of humor about their store as well it seems. They have a secret dentist discount. So all you dentist with a sweet tooth, we found your spot. Samples! They have samples available for most products. So if you're unsure you can probably try it, but be warned if you sample it you will want to buy it. Chocoholics be warned! I saw over half a dozen local grown and made "bean to bar" as they say, chocolate crafters on their shelves and each with multiple options. Farm to table tarts. And a wall of small farm macadamia nuts options, including chocolate covered varieties, and the best friggin toffee I've ever tried. Lilikoi, Li hing, coconut options in everything. Even organic cotton Candy?? My new favorite candy store! The only negative is I don't live on the island, so I have to wait for my next visit to get my next fix.

KTA Express, you're a lifesaver!…read more I came to the KTA Express store twice in recent weeks, and this store/supermarket totally saved me from having to drive back in town (Kailua-Kona) to buy something I sorely needed. I was working at a local bank next door doing some lock work when I realized I needed a few 9-volt batteries to fix something. Being that I was traveling, and did not have access to all my normal gear, I asked the bank people where was the nearest store? Originally I was worried that I might have to drive all the way back to Kailua-Kona to get what I needed, but luckily KTA had a store in Kealakekua. Walked over to the KTA store, as it was just a hop, skip, & jump away from the local bank (where I was working). Got what I needed, and time & resources were saved that day! Last week Thursday I found myself back in Kealakekua working at a credit union this time. No, I didn't need anything in particular for the credit union this time, but after finishing the job at the credit union, the KTA store was very convenient for me to get some drinks & some grub. Apparently the KTA Express has a vendor - L&L Drive-In that does pre-made - ready to eat bentos. Some of the items looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a shot & picked up a mini BBQ Chicken & Noodle Bento. The mini bento was pretty tasty, and best part of it all is that I didn't have to go far to get my lunch grub. KTA Express in Kealakekua, you're a lifesaver! Lol!
