I rejoined this studio due to a promotion they were running for return clients. I alternate between hot Pilates and hot yoga with Sheri. I really enjoy her classes. I would love to continue classes with this studio after I finish my 20 classes but the membership is a little bit too costly for me. There is street parking as well as a parking lot. I've been practicing the 26-2 sequence for over 20 years and I just had the best practice I've ever had with Copper. He is a new instructor at this studio (not really new, but was taught here and then moved to Asia to spread the good news of this yoga.) We are SO lucky he's back here. His dialogue is energetic, motivating, compassionate and funny! He has a way of delivering instructions with an almost metronomic cadence. I came to the studio for my first session. I was told to leave as I am a first timer and APPARENTLY first time members must show up 5 min early to get acclimated to the heat. HOWEVER, the email I received confirming my session DID NOT mention this warning ANYWHERE! I am very frustrated as this is terrible customer service. I've done hot yoga off and on for about 12 years, at various studios in New York, Chicago, Miami, and now Houston: each city and studio takes a slightly different approach to the tradition sequence. In the classes I've taken at Hot Yoga Houston, I really appreciated how the focus is on health. I especially enjoyed Mary Daly's focus on not comparing yourself to others' external appearance of the pose and instead to internally listen to our own bodies. This is the best studio in Houston. If you are a seasoned practitioner you should know what you are getting when you come into class. There will be no music, there will be no aromatherapy, lights on always, the poses will be the same each & every time, and you shouldn't modify postures beyond what is instructed. I love the consistency in instruction and classes. It is challenging, but every class is a beginner class, available to ALL body types & ages. The instructors are fabulous, especially Mike the owner, Susie, and Sherry! But they are ALL wonderful. This was my home away from home. I was visiting from Tampa and took advantage of the weekly pass. In 6 days I stayed in H-town, I checked in here 5 times. This is a very nice studio with quality instructors who are passionate and knowledgeable. My practice for Bikram imoroved a lot while I was here. This is a state of the art studio with the best dry heating system. I've been to one on Oahu, Maryland and Florida and this studio is the top! Namaste for everything. read more

This review is purely smell based. Hot Yoga Houston needs to tear up their carpet flooring and move to wood floors. The studio smells so strongly of feet, mildew, and layers of partially dried and then daily re-applied sweat that I can't go back. The sad part of it is that the instructors are good. I've visited this yoga studio a couple of times (Bikram Yoga and Hot Pilates), and was pleased with the instruction. I just can't handle the smell. There are equally good yoga studios within a 5 mile radius that have their hygiene under control. Please fix your flooring situation so that I can come back! read more

This studio seems very outdated with gross carpet - who wants to be on old carpet during HOT yoga where everyone is drenched?! The class was not relaxing at all. They leave bright lights on, no soothing music or aromatherapy to get rid of the old carpet smell. It was very "boot camp" vibes. Every single studio I've been at previously knows who's joining class and gives people a grace period. Not this place. They started class a minute early, locked the doors and wouldn't let someone who's paid join the room quietly - literally just waved them off. During class the teacher kept instructing you to not drink water... it all made me very uncomfortable. read more

Its for you if you can stand the heat for 90 mins. You'll feel energized for the rest of your day. I have been doing yoga for almost four years and I absoutely love it! Hot yoga however was something new to me when I first started it a year back. Make sure you wear something airy and FREEZE the water bottle before hand to take it with you. Keep in mind its a 90 mins class , you don't want to dehydrate by the end. The bad: The carpet at this place kind of stinks. If I get up early (which is rare) on the weekends I go to the fountain view studio because they only have 10:00 class which is closer to the Galleria area otherwise I go to the 12:00 offered at Kirby (only). The studio get filled quickly so make sure you come 10 - 15 min early to get a nice spot otherwise prepare to be slapped and kicked by fellow yogis (all unintential of course) If you want to take it easy and not be picked on by the instructor I advice you to be in the back row. Having said that I always like to be in the first or second row because its good being critiqued , you get better at your postures that way. Also , staying in front rows allow you see your reflection in the mirror to perfect your postures. Good luck! Ps: I like the studio a lot more on Kirby. It has windows so at day time there is a lot of sunshine. It does make a LOT of difference , you feel less claustrophobic than the studio on Fountain View. The studio on Fountain view has a Chinese restaurant beside it and you often smell Kung Pao Chicken and what not which makes you feel like you are working in some sweat shop in China in extreme conditions. Anyway, a friend of mine was telling me that the Bikram Yoga studio in Sugar Land is even better than the one on Kirby but I still have to try it to rate it. read more

Cute studio and friendly teachers. I did the new student special and tried several classes. I was surprised that EVERY class I took was exactly the same. Literally exactly the same movements in the same order, etc. The teachers say essentially a script for class and it seemed insincere and so scripted. I would tire of going if it remained so predicable. There are so many poses teachers are not presenting and it got boring after a few classes bc it was so robotic. I've been coming to this yoga studio for years (on and off) and I'm still in love with the practice as I was the first day I walked in. An amazing physical practice mixed with open eyed meditation. The staff is incredibly friendly! Very welcoming to all levels whether you've never taken hot yoga before or you've been doing it for years, they welcome you with open arms and want you to succeed. Yay for yoga! I hadn't done "hot yoga" for a while, so I let my awesome co-workers drag me to class at Bikram's last night. I was ready to settle for just making it through 90 minutes in the 105 degree room without getting sick, but I managed to do the majority of what was required. Bikram's yoga is not like yoga you're used to. The instructor wears a headset mic and talks a lot. A LOT. During my class last night, the instructor was worth about 3 stars - she corrected what needed correcting, motivated everyone through the disgustingly sweaty class, and kept everything going at a smooth pace. I felt better when I mostly tuned her out, but to each his own. The atmosphere is friendly but a bit awkward...some people definitely fit the know-it-all stereotype that another reviewer mentioned, but others were really nice...just another slice of Houston humanity. Don't be afraid to wear skimpy clothing (trust me, you will want to!!), even if you aren't in love with your body...everyone is too busy trying not to die of heat exhaustion to care what you look like. There's no music or new agey crap during class (unless your instructor happens to talk about sharing energy, at which point you can decide for yourself)...just a lot of sweating. Bring: water, a mat (shared mats? ew!), a big towel, and a small towel Wear: As little as possible. I was somewhat overdressed in bike-type shorts and a tank top. Don't: push too hard, worry about what you look like, feel like you have to buy in to everything the instructor says, or get discouraged. This is the hard stuff!! The best thing about this class is how you'll feel after. It's a great way to get grounded, to push yourself, or to recover after an icky day. read more

Horrible! I was visitng from San Francisco where I have practised yoga for over 5 years. I arrived early to talk with the instructor as I have disc degeneration in my c-spine (neck) and have to modify to accomodate that. I explained this and the fact that I "need" the forward bend to come out of the back bend series but cannot do rabbit - I stated that my PT and yoga instructor worked with me to have me do modified plough instead. The instructor - Michael the owner as well was hostile. He asked why I was arguing with him when he insisted I do child's pose instead. I was polite at first but his "in my face - no respect for personal space" stance soon melted my politeness. The other reviewer described an "inviting" atmosphere - maybe for a porcupine to match the prickliness of the owner! He was angry, hostile, rude and "know it all." I offered to do my modifications in the back of the room after he protested that my difference might "confuse" other students. He kept saying that "Bikram would never say to do plough - you should do rabbit or child's pose" and I told him ath Bikram had not worked with my body for 5 years as had my PT and yoga instructor and I was doing what I was taught in individual sessions based on the needs of my body. He told me that "I know your body better than you do." Which I found antithetical to the whole concept of yoga and one's own mind-body connection. It was obvious this owner/instructor was on a power trip of his own and not there for his students' health but to feed his own ego and need to be the "expert" in the room. I am sure everyone has met thos instructors and doctors - they know it all and you are just the "idiot" patient or student - that is this man - AWFUL! Never in 5 years have I ever met such an openly hostile and narcissistic yoga instructor - I asked for my money back and left. When I went to another studio the next day I found out this man has treated others this way - yelled at people and been generally horrid - students there were talking about similar experiences - and they were ALL women....hmmmmm.....misogynist and narcissist? Seems likely! this is NOT the place to bliss out to yoga - avoid it and the narcissistic egocentric owner! read more

I don't like to rant and state all the negatives when I give feedback. It makes you sound like you are hyper-critical and/or have a chip on your shoulder. Unfortunately, I have nothing positive to say about this studio. I love hot yoga, and Bikram is one of the types of yoga that is done in a steamy room. For a few years, I had no home for my love of hot yoga, so I came here. I could tell you about the inattentive staff that goes through the script without looking at the students, or the pervasive smell of mold and gross carpet, or I could tell you about the outlandish cost and inflexibility with class packages. But what really got me to quit this place all together was the embarrassment I experienced when I brought a few friends to introduce them to hot yoga. The students were rude to my friends, which was reflective of the atmosphere - people there just to work out, antithetical to the mind, body, spirit connection of yoga. Now, I am not saying that in order to be a good place they have to chant and end each class in namaste, but a little bit of kindness and human connection would go a long, long way. Also, the parking lot is too tightly packed and dangerous with all the distracted hummer drivers. read more

This place smells awful. I really liked going there since the workout really worked. A lot of people got yelled at for being wimpy, which I thought was kind of embarrassing for the adults to be embarrassed by the young staff.. For example someone skipped a move and the yoga instructor called him out, and he said he had some serious injury. That would have been a good time to say "my bad." Also someone put a towel over his yoga mat which was apparently forbidden by Bikram law. The guy who did this said he was afraid of slipping since he tore his achilles heel before or something and again it was a bit tense. Also don't drink water before they tell you to.. you get scolded. They have scheduled water breaks. I understand.. but I wanted water earlier and I respect the scheduled water break suggestion. Having people randomly walking around in a slippery stretching environment is risky. And people aren't as dehydrated as they think. I think Yoga is a pretty weak workout in general so I find it funny how the yoga instructors are so "tough." They have a Jillian Michaels approach to their craft again. And I'd say only half of the instructors (2 of 4) seemed to be like this. It's kind of funny how there are a lot of show-offs who try to fight for front row position. Also I've heard the staff recite the same same jokes and stories several times from different instructors, and some of them quote the founder of Bikram dropping the f-bomb. I think this "Yoga with an attitude" skit is lame. I only had a membership for 1-2 months. Again, this place just smells awful. It reminds me about a quote I heard in college describing how disgusting someone's kitchen was. "Satan called me and told me he is having nightmares about your kitchen." This place really really stinks!!!!!!! But it's a VERY good yoga workout and I kinda get the idea that it is good for injuries... but I'm not qualified to say that. I used to go here after I did a real workout at the Ballys/24 Hour Fitness close to it. I would have done it before-hand, but you really get drenched in sweat. Also just gotta say this: Major SPEEDO warning. Ridiculously high amount of speedo wearing men. Nothing against the hydrodynamic nature of the small speedo for swimming since I understand it makes one swim better. But common... for yoga? The amount of extra flexibility vs. possibility of something popping out makes it not worth it to wear the speedo. read more

The instructors were great, but I couldn't bring myself to go back after the first few times. Yes, I can be a bit of a princess, but I feel that there is only so much BO a regular human can intake. The straw that broke the camel's back was having to smell this older gentlemen's feet. You see, due to how unbelievably crowded it was, his feet were on average 10 inches away from my face. In certain poses, I was virtually pressed against them. The mix of the room's standard BO, plus this man's -er-- intense feet, had me running for the hills after. If you can handle the overcrowding and the BO (maybe you were raised in Sparta), I'm sure you'll love this place. Like I said, great instructors. The place just needs a Febreze invasion. read more

I want to add this place into my regular regime - it's a small business that has been around forever and with friendly instructors. That said, while the place has made a few changes to update it with the times, a few more suggestions would greatly improve the experience. 1. switch out the carpet for hardwood floors 2. change the standing poses across the mat to "on the mat" - I find the carpet slippery and why not use the "sticky" mat for its intended purpose 3. schedule classes for those familiar with the poses with a LOT LESS verbiage from the instructors. I know this is the old school Bikram style but yoga is suppose to be a time for meditation and the incessant speaking from the instructors detract from that. A few classes with yoga music would also be great. read more

I tried Bikram's College of Yoga on South Blvd. over the summer after I moved and the drive to my old studio was too long. Although I love hot yoga, I DO NOT love Bikram's Yoga College of India!! 1. The smell. I do mold assessments for a living, and that place reeks of mold. There is no way that with such high humidity, temperature and moisture that mold or SOMETHING else is not growing either within the ventilation system or in the carpet/walls/etc. I cannot imagine why they would cover the floor in carpet (which can not be cleaned easily) versus wood or another hard flooring which is easily sanitizable. Yuck! 2. The staff. Yoga is supposed to be reflective, know your own pace, etc. The staff were not very friendly, and instead try to tell you what to do instead of letting you find your edge and push yourself. I did not like how multiple staff tried to tell me what variation of poses to do, resulting in a yoga class which was not challenging but instead frustrating. I also think its kind of bizarre that the instructors say the exact same monologue each class. The only thing good about this studio is that it was convenient to my house. But now that Yoga One has opened, I get my hot yoga fill elsewhere :) read more

***Bikram Yoga Love*** I am an advocate of health on all levels and constantly evaluate my own well-being. I have not always been kind to myself which may have been in the form of food consumed (our bodies tell us what does and doesnt work), relationships I entered (or remained in), thoughts/behaviors that were not of the highest good, negative/abusive self talk, etc. However once I began to B.L.O.O.M. (Becoming Love to Overcome the Obstacles in Me) and actively healing my own emotional wounds, (a journey that started ~16 years ago) my perspective on self, life, others, love and relationships changed...there was a shift...an elevation...an evolution. My B.L.O.O.M. journey has become a lifestyle and through it I've developed, cultivated and nurtured a loving relationship with self, one which allows me to have absolute confidence & trust in my intuition (God space), ability to feel & recognize energy, to know hear, listen and honor what my body & spirit require at all times. This connection to self is what led me to Bikram Yoga. Last weekend, I tried it for the first time at a studio in the Woodlands and absolutely loved it but wanted a studio closer to my office. After conducting a Yelp search, I selected Bikram Hot yoga of Houston because of their special for new clients: 3 sessions in ten days for $10 This was an amazing deal (I thought, but the universe has infinite abundance (more than our minds can conceive). I immediately was drawn to the positive, light, energy of the studio and was warmly greeted by Shirley (I think this is her name) a kind woman with positive energy radiating from her pores. After introducing myself and mentioning the Yelp deal she informed me that the actual deal is: 10 (yes TEN) sessions in 10 days for $10 What???!!!!! This is an AMAZING offer!!!! Houston, if you are interested in bikram yoga this is the perfect time to get in...a $1/session is an amazing deal! The 90m session began and I am proud to say I completed all postures (w/o breaking or leaving the room). I had to scale a few but as I build strength and balance I will master them. Shirley said something profound as she set me up in the room... "All of the postures will remain the same each session but you will be different." Love this! Honestly, some of the poses are challenging and coupled with the heat if your mind is not calm one can easily begin to feel frustrated. I did not have this experience because I choose to be kind to myself at all times, ESPECIALLY during challenging times. My self talk during the 90m session sounded like this: *I am proud of you. *You are doing great. *Thank you for trying this posture. *We can do it. *Okay let's scale here, you are doing well. *Lets try agin. *We are not in competition. *Slow breaths. I will have my 2/10 session today and I am looking forward to the class, experience, my continued evolution, clarity, alignment, health benefits, strength, endurance, patience and love. As much as I love the tender flexibility of lubricated muscles, that post-yoga high and the joys of full body soreness, not to mention the glistening perfection of the bodies of many a Bikram die-hard, I cannot justify paying $20 a class for something I can do for free all Summer long in Memorial Park. We are blessed with free outdoor hot yoga in Houston and must take advantage of it. In a colder city, I might oblige you. I just took a class at the South Blvd location and I'm delighted they've changed the flooring in the studio. The flooring now is more similar to soft rubber than carpet so it doesn't absorb humidity and sweat. It's amazing how much lovelier the studio is now that the stink is gone. Secondly, I've tried a few of the other copy-cat hot yoga studios in town. They are cheaper and I'm actually friends with some of the owners/instructors, but I found myself back here for 3 reasons. 1. BYCOI has the best schedule with the most classes each day. More classes = more opportunities to go. 2. I suppose I have a type-A personality and I'm a bit anal. But I actually like practicing the same 26 postures in the same order every time I go to class. I like knowing what to expect so there isn't much active thinking involved. At the peak of my practice, I can blow through a class in sort of a meditative mode and the 90 mins is over in no time. In other classes, having to constantly look around to see what the next posture is is distracting to me. 3. Bikram certified instructors. The instructors who are required to shell out thousands of dollars to go to Bikram training school and get certified does actually pay off for us as students. They're always good. I've wanted to correct an instructor or 2 teaching copy-cat "hot yoga" before who were doing the postures wrong themselves! This is infuriating when you're paying THEM to teach. And I've finished 90 min hot yoga classes elsewhere and didn't feel like I got much of a workout. I've never had this problem at ANY Bikram certified school in the 11 years I've been practicing and I've visited multiple studios in Houston, as well as Dallas, Austin, NYC, and LA. I'm giving the studio 4 stars out of 5 b/c I really wish they would adopt more lenient policies around tuition and reinstating expired classes. Classes aren't cheap. A class is $20 to drop-in or come down drastically when you buy a package: the minimum is 10 classes for $120 which is $12/class, a significant discount. However the 10 class package expires in 30 days which means that if you can't make it to class at least 2-3 times a week then you lose them. When I have a legitimate excuse for not being able to attend class (i.e. sickness or travel), they will usually give me some of the expired classes back. However, when my best excuse is "life is just too busy right now" then that money goes down the drain. I understand the headquarters in LA where Bikram teaches will give back expired classes if the student purchases another package. I like this approach b/c it "forgives" students and encourages them to continue their practice and improve their discipline. Many other Bikram studios around the country also give new students 7-10 days of free classes for ~$20. I don't think this studio has ever adopted that policy either. read more

It has the best heating system of any hot yoga studio I have ever been in and doesn't feel too stuffy like most of the other hot yoga studios. This place smells like dirty socks. I practice yoga daily. I have done hot yoga at other places that aren't "Bikram" style yoga. Upon arrival, I was ushered into a very stinky room. I was essentially forced to sit in the front (not comfortable for me) of the room. Class started and I was singled out (again, not comfortable for me) as a new student. I reached for some water 3 poses into the series and was told that I could not have water until the designated break. Um, WHAT? This was really the tipping point for me. I officially won't be back. I've had better experiences at a number of smaller local studios. This place is terribly over-rated. If you are interested in trying yoga, go local, find a small studio and find your comfort level. This place is definitely for a different type of yogi - the type that doesn't really do yoga, but follows a scripted "Bikram" style. For those interested, you should also google Bikram's name and get a deeper understanding of how they have marketed themselves. It is very interesting information. read more

I can't wait to cook a big delicious meal for Daniel and rub his feet after. He is amazing, I love him...Woah that is SUCH a pretty tree! I should wake up early and surprise everyone at the office with lattes and donuts." Seriously, hot yoga will whoop your ass. But you will feel SO amazing after that it is really worth a try. I had my first and only experiences in hot yoga at their Fountainview location, but I found everything to be pretty inviting for a newcomer. To my surprise, there were all ages and body types in the classes so I didn't feel intimidated by the other patrons. The staff is helpful but they are strict on the rules here especially when it comes to your classes expiring. They offer several times in the evening so try them all to find which instructor you prefer. I will agree with others' diagnosis of "smelly" but hey, what can you do? It's 50+ people packed into a 105 degree room working their butts off... Yes, it's hot, you will wonder what the hell you were thinking about 10 minutes into it, but you will slip into the zone and before you know it, you're done! I love Bikram Hot Yoga. I started out with the 10 classes in 30 days special, and although I was new to Yoga, I felt like I was home. Everyone made me feel so welcome, and the instructors were very patient and encouraging as I tried all of the poses. The room is pretty hot, and hotter as the class goes on, but somehow, when you're focused on the energy and movement of your body, you don't think of it so much and you get really used to it. It's comforting, in a way. I appreciate the pauses between each pose, to allow what I've done to settle in my body. This Bikram hot yoga always makes me feel energized and like I've done something really good for myself - body and soul. I love Bikram yoga itself, but this studio gets on my nerves for several reasons. First, they won't tell you who is teaching what class. If I'm paying $20 per class, you better believe it will be with someone I know and like. Yael and Kathy are wonderful instructors, but you won't know who's teaching until you sign in. The smell comes and goes...I found a spot in the room that doesn't stink, but one day I had to move and I was distracted the whole time. The bathrooms are very clean though, and I noticed that the studio smelled a whole lot better at 6AM versus 830PM. I really wish the instructors would call people out for being rude during class. People wear loud jewelry, get in others' way, wear stinky perfume, and TALK. It's really hard to get my hips off of the ground in full lotus when someone is chugging Gatorade next to me. Money is my biggest deterrent to going back. It's just too freaking expensive. $180/month is ludicrous, even if you're going every day like you should. I wish they would offer an auto withdrawal payment, contract, or a student discount. Most people can afford it, but the value isn't there. read more

Wow. Just wow. A one word review would be "caring". See below for the long version... Having not done any exercise for far too long, I was apprehensive about trying hot yoga. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was"home". Mike and Cristie offered me a warm greeting and walked me through what I needed to know - Mike even set-up my mat and towel for me! Happy to say I was never singled-out as a "newbie", yet the gentleman on the mat next to me came over and introduced himself before class and offered kind reassurances. Thrilled to report I made it through the entire 90 minutes of my first class (with a few breaks on my mat)! Other students were so supportive afterwards offering their congratulations and high-fives. Been back a few times now, and warm and friendly is still the m.o.! read more

I've been coming here for 1-2 months now. I wanted to wait until I tried out other studios before I started giving ratings, since this was where I received my first experience of bikram yoga. Compared to other yoga studios I have visited, this one seems a little older and the smell is something you have to learn to get used to (keep in mind the smell might just be coming from the number of sweaty bodies surrounding you & not the studio itself). The changing room is small - fitting only a handful of people in there at one time, but nothing to be concerned about unless you're just picky about that kind of stuff. Although the facility might not seem extremely glamorous and appealing like newer studios, I have to say after going to 2 other studios, I find myself more comfortable visiting this location. The instructors are GREAT! They're very very welcoming and instead of just running through the postures and the typical scripted speech, they really work on correcting you and giving extra pointers to help you perfect each position. For first-timers: From other reviews, it seems some people have had a different experience with the instructors, saying they're 'judgemental' or 'make you feel awkward if you're new'. Honestly, there isn't any judgement in yoga. If an instructor points you out, it's only to help you improve. No one cares if you're not doing it perfectly. Everyone in there is only focused on themselves, so there's no need to feel embarrassed or offended if an instructor makes a small comment. Anyway, If you're curious on trying out bikram or on the fence about it, you should put your curiosity to rest and just go for it! read more

I've been to a couple of studios in the Houston area.. Something about this location keeps me coming back all the way from Sugar Land. It has great energy. I avoid going to classes with times close to traffic hour .. Clearly, I won't get there in time. Kirby traffic is ridiculous! -Get there 15 to 30 minutes early! It will get packed. -Bring water (2bottles) .. Stay hydrated. -2 towels and a change of clothes... You'll be soaked. -I like to bring my own mat. Preferably, a thin one ( keeps you better balanced in difficult poses) First timers... Please Research Bikram yoga before you attend. Not to scare you out of it but, I've seen people pass out. If you're aware that you can't withstand heat then, you may want to reconsider hot yoga. It's more than 90 degrees in the room and you're in the room for an hour and half. If you get through the class.. Then, be prepped for the best sleep of your life that night! I sleep like a baby. The instructors stress it's beneficial to come back the next day. Also, another tip being in the front row will help you keep focused on your pose and the instructor. Lastly, the Cost .. Last time I went it was $120 for 10 classes. read more

I LOVE this yoga studio. Located off South Blvd you can find ample parking prior to class. MAKE sure you arrive 10-15mins before class to set up your yoga mat and towel. (Bikram tip: you have to be in the studio before scheduled start time or will be unable to participate in class. Trust me I am never on time...BUT am always on time to get my Bikram on) The studio is welcoming and clean with friendly staff and instructors. The "HOT ROOM" or actual practice studio is fantastic with lovely clean floors and plenty of space. There are even well placed lines on the floor to aline your body during class; so helpful for the OCD in me. Keep in mind class is a wonderful 90mins of triple S: Sweating; Stretching and Strengthening. If you are new to Bikram get ready to be blown away by the results to both your figure; and mental/physical health. If you are a regular to Bikram get ready to be blown away by the peace this studio. Calm instructors and environment. This studio has been kind to me and has helped me pose my way through some trying times! read more

I wanted to give this place 5 stars but having no other place to compare to, I thought it unfair. And, I just found out they charged my sister $3 for a towel, so that is sort of a bummer. but hey, I knew damn well bikram was expensive, but worth it. cuz its awesome. Yes, its $20 a class or a walk in, but its 90 minutes, and it's worth every penny to feel the way I felt when I walked out of there. I loved how I was treated at this studio, having literally walked in off the street. The staff was friendly and walked me through, letting me know what to expect, even walking me into the studio and putting me in a "good" spot. They gave me info on studios in Austin so I could go in my hometown. I was introduced to the instructor before the session but I didn't expect her to call me out during class! She seemed to know everyone's name which was pretty cool, especially considering how many people were there. I mean, at least 50, not kidding. But, everyone had enough space and it actually made it more comfortable as a newbie because you just blended in. The instructor was really great. At first I was a little anxious, because not only are you trying to acclimate to the heat, you are trying to get into the rhythm of her voice - she was speaking a mile a minute. Nonstop, for 90 minutes. Again, at first it made me anxious, but then you settle into and, and I really enjoyed the constant coaching. Yes, it's relaxing in a way to let go and really feel every inch of your body, focus on your breath, and all that yoga jazz. But it is friggin hard work and there isn't a minute where you aren't pushing yourself. There will be a moment when you think you had to be out of your mind to pay $20 to have your knees (knees!) sweat but push through it. I had to just lay there through a couple poses, I just got back into it when I could. I literally lost a pound in sweat, and several pounds of stress. Pretty amazing. I will make this a regular part of my life. I just have to! read more
