Came here today for a lunch sized pizza. Served 11-2. Got myself the quick draw for 8.65. Honestly it's a great deal. Paddingtons original is probably one of my favorite pizza places in town. I got there right when it was coming out of the oven. And my favorite way to eat it is hot and fresh straight from the box in my car. It was so good. Padington's is the best pizza restaurant in Salem. I'm a little biased. I worked here as a teenage (about 100 years ago, it feels like). Padington's uses almost entirely fresh ingredients. Some things, like pineapple and canned mushrooms are not fresh. And, obviously, salami, pepperoni, and canadian bacon comes a package. However, on the other hand, when you order a pizza with mushrooms, you're asked if you want canned or fresh. And, the sliced meats are sliced in-house. Sausage and hamburger is cooked fresh, as well. I love the corn meal that is placed on the pans before the pizzas go into the oven. Don't expect thick-crust pizzas here, though. Unless I missed something, all the pizzas are thin-crust. Seriously, the pizza here is the best tasting anywhere. I highly recommend it. My favorites: Gold Digger (canadian bacon and pineapple) and Forty-Niner (combination, with sliced fresh tomatoes placed on the pizza after cooking). Get used to the weird names. Most of the pizzas have original names. Pistol Pete's is a pepperoni. Sod Buster is sausage and mushroom. You won't find a lot of video games, records hanging from the ceiling, or other gimmicks. I can't believe this place only has 3 stars!! As a Salem local, I've been coming here for years and it's one of the best pizza places in town. I don't love pizza and would gladly eat here frequently. Padington's is right out of a chapter from days gone by, with Victorian decor and vintage photo. The restaurant is spacious and set up for groups and a flurry of activity. I can only imagine what it used to be like, but it was pretty quiet during my visit. The self playing piano is still on display but seemed to be out of commission. There is no table service, you order when you walk up to the window and they give you a number. Slide down the bar to order drinks. They've got the basics; soft drinks, beer on tap, bottled flavored Snapple and two liters to go. They have one non-alcoholic beer option, so I requested regular ice tea and was happy to get a half carafe of unsweet to myself. While you're there, you'll need to grab plates, napkins, red pepper flakes, and request parmesan cheese if you'd like it. My friend and I sat across from a big screen mounted over a fireplace and caught the Olympic trials while waiting for our order. Once it arrived, I understood all the fuss! Friendly staff, older style place (does need some dusting). My coworkers raved about this place , I finally had it and was super disappointed. Good size pizza but sauce had no flavor and overall didn't like the way they made it with a whole tomato on top along so many olives, this took away from the other flavors . It truly is a shame that the other location was allowed to keep the name because they are no where near the same quality. First I'll say I liked the pizza.... The others in my party weren't impressed. Waited for our pizza for 45 minutes. They did have some large groups, so I guess it's to be expected. The customer service was terrible. I went up to the counter to ask for a cup of ice... totally ignored me like I wasn't even there. Finally had to speak up. That irks me so bad when these young kids don't know the meaning of customer service, and it happens everywhere. A simple "I'll be right with you" goes a long way. We hadnt been to Padingtons in a while so we decided to give it a try. We ordered a Bandito pizza to go. I'm glad we did. The pizza was good, but the service was just ok, barely friendly cashier, and not very professional. The cooks and the manager looked like they just rolled out of bed, and the restaurant was gross. Very dirty and outdated, food scraps and paper all over the floor behind the counter, food prep counter and storage doors are all beat up, and most tables had food remains on them even though it wasn't very busy. If you are going to have an open kitchen concept, it really needs to be appealing and clean. We were hesitant to eat after seeing the kitchen. They are not really kid friendly... There are no arcade machines or kid themed stuff. They hassled me about my service dog and made me feel like leaving before my pizza was ready. The girl who rang us up was not rude but not the nicest but she did the job. The pizza was yummy and everyone was working very hard. Yes there is a staff of teenagers. Though not a one has their phone out which is rare in today's society. You go to a fast food place and usually they are texting or chatting away. Here everyone was working. The manager (the only one in black) was working and helping them out. At one point he even cleaned the tables. I do not get why there are so many negative reviews. I saw nothing of what was mentioned in them. People Came in and got their pizzas quickly. We got ours in 15-20 minutes. In the last month or so, we've noticed that the pizzas have been dried out, super flat (no soft crust), and worst of all, cut into super small pieces. I went to the original Paddington's on Pine out north, about 30min drive to try the pizza out north and the pizza is so much better and the Paddington's we all love so much. I was so disappointed! We have been there in previous years and it was good. This time is was not even close to being good. This was a mediocre pizza at best. It was a large pizza (not as large as I expected). It was $32. We had a half and half. The crust was like a cracker. Not much cheese or sauce. You never know when an era is going to end. For years and years Padington's was my favorite pizza ever (see my previous review). What we had tonight was nothing like the Padington's of old. As soon as we opened the takeout box I knew something was very wrong. - They put way more cheese than before on. That may sound great to some people, but a big blob of uncooked cheese is not my thing. - The worst part is they are now using a different pepperoni. Their previous pepperoni was the best around and one of the key ingredients that made Padington's so delicious. The new pieces of pepperoni are larger, blander, and greasier. Not a good combo. - Overall the pizza just tastes different, and not better. The crust seemed the same, but the sauce, cheese, and toppings were all new and not as good as before. Their customer service, which was always their weak point, is worse than ever. Everyone who works there looks and acts miserable at all times. What used to be my favorite pizza place anywhere (I've only lived in Oregon for a couple years but Padington's has been my favorite for 10 years or so) is now just another, very expensive pizza joint. No better than Walery's, Abby's, Odd Moe's, or any other place in town. I had heard such good things about Paddingtons! Long-time Salem residents sang their praises. Well, despite the less than glowing current reviews, I figured I'd blow my diet on, what I was hoping, a worthwhile pizza binge. Maybe I should be relieved that the closest pizza to my new home leaves so much to be desired... ;) The crust was crunchy, but bland. Flour and water, no yeastiness or even a 'pizza crust flavor'. Needed salt. The sausage half of my pizza (with fresh mushrooms) had no flavor, the pepperoni (with bell pepper) side was better, but... lacking. The sauce was quite flavorless. I ended up making a sauce with tomato paste, salt, oil and fennel to 'dress the leftovers up' - and it was still lacking. Disappointing, especially for the cost. WOW! I have been a customer for 35 years. This place has gone WAY downhill. Stood for 10 minutes in line to pay for pizzas that I preordered. When the girl finally charged me for my order, she overcharged me $2, I got that back. They had 8 pizza makers and one cashier who was spending all of her time taking phone calls. My pizzas were supposed to be done at 5:30. Its 6:10 and they still havent even come out. I feel sorry for the gal trying to take phone orders and manage the cash register all while the manager has his back to her and only cutting pizzas. That's it. Sometimes, he stands there with zero pizzas coming through. Turn around and help out! I prefer Walerys in West Salem, just didnt want to fight bridge traffic.
