We came in on a Sunday....Mother's Day no less, and thanks to their waitlist, we got in and out quickly. We were coming from an appointment in Edina and assumed we'd be waiting for a while, but that wasn't the case at all. We walked in, I ran to the restroom, and they were already ready for us. The Edina location does feel a bit tight, I'm not sure why, but I would definitely recommend using the waitlist during peak times or you'll likely be waiting (there are several benches available to hang out on if you are waiting). The sourdough French toast is always my go-to, especially paired with their bacon. I should have gone with the short stack this time. That bacon is so good. I'm not sure were they get it from, but I'm a fan. Our food came out really fast. We were in and out in about 35 minutes. Typically, OPH is a five star experience, and based on the food alone, it absolutely still is. For me, the service fell a bit short this time. Both our server and others seemed a little off. For example, as we were leaving, I paused to let a server finish dropping off food at a nearby table. It was taking a bit, so I carefully moved past, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. I came in to have a gluten free pancake ordered a short stack, which was three, pleasantly surprised. One was darker so I kind of pushed it aside. I cut up the others but they were so dry half of them soaked up the small container of syrup. Not that it mattered they were the worst pancakes I have every had. I didn't even get through 1/4 of them. When the waitress came she saw me reaching for my wallet and stuck her had out to just grab my credit card. Said "box?" I said no thank you. She grabbed everything at table and took it and zero questions. Wouldn't that be a clue if most of the meal was on the plate to ask. I will not be back! My husband and I went to The Original Pancake House on a Tuesday morning. Even at mid-morning this place was packed. As we left the entire front lobby was full of people waiting for tables. Always take this type of popularity as a sign of good things to come. I ordered the garden omelet (Broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes and onions with cheddar cheese) and a side of pancakes and my husband ordered the fresh berry waffle (topped with fresh seasonal berries and whipped cream and berry syrup). Wow! There was a little wait at the door, which now I know for next time to get a reservation because around noon it was still busy ! The parking lot is big so there are plenty of parking spaces. The food is amazing! Every time I visit I have the apple/ pecan crepe. The wait time can be long so I suggest you call to get on the list. You can also get on the list online too. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this place until now. I have eaten here countless times but for some reason never posted my impression. What can I add to the many previous reviews and the number of assigned stars? I feel as though most everything has been thoroughly covered but nevertheless here goes nothin'. I really enjoy the thin, gooey 49er flapjacks. The standard buttermilk or blueberry pancakes are pretty tasty. When I was on a bit of a health kick I thought the oatmeal (with raisins) and the sliced bananas (with cream and brown sugar) were excellent (though hardly austere) options. The corned beef hash is delicious. The omelettes are very good. But my go to breakfast has to be the thick sliced bacon with over-easy eggs and a side of rosti (swiss-style golden hashed browns made with butter and a touch of onion). I prefer to place the eggs atop the rosti and let the yolk flow into the potatoes creating an extremely flavorful (if not particularly attractive) mess. I usually add some sourdough toast generously spreading the slices with strawberry preserves but will occasionally choose the side pancakes (and extra syrup) asking that the cakes be brought out after I've consumed the rosti/eggs combo and most of the bacon. FYI: I find that the delay results in fresher, warmer pancakes. If you haven't already guessed, the toast or short stack serve essentially as (breakfast?) dessert. The staff has been prompt, professional and courteous. The coffee is strong and great (offered free while you wait). And wait you might unless you come very early or at a rare lull. Noise levels can interfere with communication (especially in certain parts of the restaurant). Parking is free but the lot can become awfully full making closer in spaces a dicey proposition. The only quibbles have been regarding the menu and pricing. There has been some confusion over the cost of certain things and exactly what accompanies the various choices. I have left only to discover that I was charged for items that were free sides according to the menu. Maybe the wait person was unfamiliar with the extensive menu. Honestly on those (thankfully rare) occasions I felt ripped off. But the high quality food caused me to overlook the faux pa and hasn't prevented a return. However one might want to review the check before paying. I have no reason to suspect anything malicious. Still, better safe than sorry (or something to that effect;-). Don't be discouraged by having to add your party to a fairly lengthy list. If you have the option to wait then I think this establishment will be well worth your time. read more

Everyone seems to rave about this place so I had to go check it out. I got their pigs in a blanket, coffee, and a side of hash browns. The coffee was...unfortunately...not good. My coffee tasted very burnt, to the point where I decided to not bother drinking it because it was so bitter. I just got their plain drip, and maybe I got a burnt pot...unsure. But I was disappointed regarding that. I love good coffee with my breakfast. The pigs in a blanket were very yummy. Super filling. The pancakes were delicious, very sweet and flavorful!! It's hard to find genuinely good pancakes that have flavor (in my opinion). I usually go for savory breakfast options because I've so often found this to be the case. But luckily, these pancakes defeated the odds. The best part about the meal BY FAR was their hash browns. Oh my GOD. Incredible. Show stopping. I think about them all the time. I am a sucker for potatoes and this place KNOWS how to make a killer hash. I'd come back and just have the hash browns honestly. I don't eat a lot of pancakes because I try to stay low carb. That being said they have a pretty good selection of things you can get if you want to see a little carb and stay fairly healthy and high on protein.
