Overall I really liked this place! It's big, family-friendly and the selection on the menu was decent. My kids liked their kids meals, although the cheez-it's seemed unnecessary. What a great cafe! We happened to be over north on an early Sunday morning when we stumbled upon this place. It was a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Our server was friendly and quick. Their shrimp and grits are cheesy and I receive a disclaimer from the lady who took my order that their grits were spicy. She did not lie and l loved every bite of it. It had bell peppers and onion and spice. I took a full order, just so I could have more shrimp. Half order you get 3 shrimp/full order you get 6 shrimp. Service: The ladies were nice, but ready to go home. My order was fast. I tried to use the Yelp coupon that provided me with a free cup of coffee or soda. My waitress honored it, but stated that she spoke to the owner and he doesn't know what it is and thinks it may be fake or confused with The Lowry on Hennepin. Lowry Cafe serves up good hearty breakfast fare and comfort food. Comfy casual, unbeatable prices, yummy food! I regret not coming here more when I lived in NoMi. The Turkey Wrap is delicious with bacon and cheddar. I also tried the California Burger which was pretty good, solid burger and no frills with a mild garlic aoili on the side. All their sandwiches come with a soup, salad, fries or fruit option. I chose a side salad which was a very nice sized portion. My friend comes here all the time and got their waffles and hash browns. The open faced meatloaf sounds really good too and I'll have to come back to try the delicious looking breakfast for myself! Just a heads up the two different times I showed our server the Yelp check in offer for a free soda no one seemed to have any idea what it was but gave it to us anyway no questions asked. My dad and I headed down to The Lowry Cafe after a particularly difficult family health issue at North Memorial. The food was a great way to wind down while things unfolded at the hospital. Our waiter Casey missed us coming in and apologized after he saw us. We got great service from then on, and the coffee (some solid Joe for a cafe) was always topped off. I had the super food hash, a combo of all sorts of healthy greens like brussels sprouts, cabbage and kale, along with corned beef, cheese and eggs. So flippin' good. My dad had the breakfast sammy and wolfed it down pretty quick. We were there during off hours and got in and out within an hour, which suited us fine since we had to get back to the hospital. I definitely plan on making it back, maybe during a summer bike ride. read more

The Lowry is an all right spot but nothing special. ATMOSPHERE: This cafe is a single open room with tables and booths. The parking lot is off to the side. One odd thing is the tables had bowls of coffee creamer but no sugar/sweetener packets, so you had to ask for these. SERVICE: Service here was acceptable. No complaints. FOOD: The breakfast fare is okay. I got their pancakes entree which came with two large, plate-sized pancakes and two pieces of meat (I got sausage). Standard breakfast syrup was available on the table, though I would have appreciated a maple syrup option (something I've found to be common in states bordering Canada). VALUE: Not the best. For what you pay you don't get a whole lot. As a cafe this establishment didn't stand out or offer something unique, so I didn't understand the higher prices, especially given the fact Minneapolis isn't a high cost of living area. Overall, Lowry Cafe is an okay spot to dine on American fare, but it's very middle of the road. read more

I decided to check this place out for brunch the first time yesterday. I'll be returning! Firstly, I had an excellent waitress. She was very kind, and efficient. I got my black coffee right away, which I really need in the morning. The menu didn't have a lot of vegetarian options, but she was accommodating, and made my order meat-free. I had been eyeing The Benny on the menu because I love eggs Benedict. I asked her if we could make it vegetarian, and I ended up ordering my meal with mushrooms and spinach. My order came quickly, and it was delicious. I think on top of the hollandaise sauce, was sprinkled paprika. Either way, good flavors, and the spinach wasn't overlooked or flavorless. I could taste all the ingredients and the sauce had a nice light flavor. Hash browns on the side were nice and crisp. The ambiance is cozy, with paintings throughout the restaurant. I had high hopes for this place because it's a neighborhood staple. But I was not impressed. I got the sausage gravy and biscuits. The biscuits were ok but the sausage gravy was very bland and tasted like it came out of a can. The service was awful. The servers were loudly complaining to each other behind the bar, and one server got in a very loud argument with one of the cooks through the service window. Breakfast only review: I was a fan... just because of the peanut butter waffle heaven, until I saw on the web menu it is made with Skippy. Funny how that one word ruined it for me. For a place that seems to try to cater to foodies, how hard would it be to use real peanut butter without the extra crap in it? Also tried the spinach frittata which wasn't anything like I was expecting. Frittatas are supposed to be thick and fluffy and full of yummy things. This was a flat egg disc and all the ingredients advertised in the menu were layered on top. Don't get me wrong it was edible. Just not special. The Lowry could be worse. We came in with a group of 10 for lunch on a weekday. The service was friendly and, most importantly, very accurate! The food was delicious and quick. I ordered the veggie skillet. It comes with hash browns, 2 eggs, and choice of toast. The wheat toast was very good. The skillet was a good size for breakfast or lunch and reasonably priced. I also ordered an espresso from the beverage menu. I don't drink much coffee, but I really enjoyed this! I did have to add a bit of sugar though. Stopped here on saturday with a few people for breakfast. The food was good price and the breakfast was large for the cost. I am not sure why people are saying the portions are small. The portions were very large at this place. I had the jordan it comes with 2 sausage patties, 2 eggs., 2 bacon strips, 2 pancakes, and hash browns for like 11 bucks.. the portion is enough to feed 2 people.. people who say the portions are small must be very large..=x im just saying.... i also had the soup of the day it was cream of potato soup with bacon the cup was good size and also the biscuits and gravy.. was 3 something for 2 large biscuits in a large plate of gravy. I rate the place 5 stars because the food was good and the service was amazing.. i hope to go back again soon to try out the rest of the stuff read more

What a nice neighborhood cafe! This place has a very relaxing vibe. It's a kind of place where you meet your friends, have a nice meal and catch up. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I only came here for breakfast. The service was excellent. The server was very nice, friendly and attentive. The heat hungry eggs benedict was very good. The eggs were cooked just right, and the seasoned hollandaise was a little tangy and very creamy. One complaint though .. the hash browns was a little on a soggy side, otherwise it was almost perfect. Cant wait to come back and try something else! read more
