Came here because of all the amazing reviews and the photos of the inside are so cute, yet everything was mediocre. Coffee - bad Chai latte - not good Food - mediocre, bland Service - blah and slow Decor - quaint, quirky and cute, really the only reason for the extra star Additionally, I ordered a dirty chai latte with 2 shots of espresso. He charged me the $6.50 for the latte listed on the menu, then $1.50 for one "Xtra Espresso Shot," then $4.00 for an "Espresso." When I questioned it, he brought the menu and tried to say it's $4.00 for an espresso so he was being nice by not charging $8.00 for the 2 add shots... BRO, you have a button ON THE REGISTER for "Xtra Espresso Shot" for a reason. You hit it twice for 2 add shots on the latte I'm already paying for. $3.00 for 2 add shots on a latte is reasonable, $5.50 is insane. Should have been $9.50 for a double dirty chai latte, he charged me $12.00 and thought he was being nice not charging $14.50. And it wasn't even good. Won't be coming back. Disappointed. I shouldn't even be surprised, but I was so shocked I am already writing this review right after we got home. This place is soooo overrated. read more

Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday and this place was busy but it was so nice out so we waited outside. We got seated in about 20 minutes. Service was great and quick. This place is small and has a lot of little knickknacks to look at which is fun. For food, I got the Bloomington Sandwich, which was good but I think missing the maple syrup as there wasn't any sweetness. For the table, we shared a pancake with lingonberry butter. Super tasty! My friend got the breakfast poutine which is her regular order and loved it. Great spot and I'd be back for sure! read more

This is a our neighborhood breakfast go to joint. They have a nice offerings of breakfast and lunch items with generous portions for the pricing. Friendly staff and we got right in which was nice for being peak brunch hours. My Greek scramble was good and just needed a little spice. The toast was good with a little butter and jelly. They have coloring sheets available to keep kids busy. The buttermilk pancakes was fluffy and good texture. The kids scramble with cheese was good according to my daughter. Overrated and not a good value. My eggs Benedict offering was not hot off the grill. Hollandaise sauce should have a hint of lemon. The Canadian bacon was paper thin. The breakfast potatoes were tasteless and also lukewarm. I can't comment on my friend's pancakes other than the whopping price for a short stack? The coffee cups are heavy and awkward. $60 was about $35 too much. I don't understand why folks think this is so great. You don't have to go very far to find something better. read more

The inside was adorable, the wait time super manageable, our waitress was super nice and the coffee was surprisingly good. I ordered the caramel apple French toast and the caramel wasn't sweet. The French toast itself was a great consistency and the apple slices were crisp but the taste of the dish is pretty dependent on the caramel slathered all over it so I was pretty disappointed that it was kinda bitter. I ended up scraping as much as I could off and then covering it in maple syrup. Overall I think this is a cute little place, my meal in particular happened to be less than great read more

This restaurant offers a lot in food, ambience, and service. As an out of towner that came to explore Minnesota and attend the Paul McCartney concert with a friend, we both were in search of a nice local restaurant to get a great Minnesota experience and The Hot Plate did just that. The homey feel as you walk in and get seated is something to experience, especially the location in a beautiful residential community. The options offered give various choices to all groups of people, and the service provided was great; our server welcomed us openly and made suggestions to sights to see on our last day in town. All and all it was a great experience while here and would recommend coming here to anyone visiting. read more

When you first walk in, you're greeted with tons of interesting decor! We sat and ordered our food and it came pretty quickly! They did forget to bring the French toast we wanted to try but we said it was okay and to just remove it from the bill. The Bloomington sandwich was really good! It had bacon, scrambled eggs, 3 different cheeses, and maple syrup! The pop comes in cans so the charge is per drink. Wait staff was okay. Not overly friendly but not terrible. FYI there is a small charge to use a credit card so bring cash to avoid this! read more

They were surprisingly busy at 10 am on a Friday, but were handling it in stride. When we got seated, our server came fairly quickly to give us water and ask if we wanted coffee. They had a good variety of breakfast options, so everyone found something they'd like. My only complaint was that they had no substitutions for the breakfast potatoes. I thought at least tomatoes or cottage cheese would be available. They were, however, happy to make my eggs Benedict on sourdough instead of an English muffin. I can't have many potatoes, but I did try them and they were delicious. The Benedict was good, although I wish it'd had a little more ham. Regular coffee got refilled more often than decaf, but I'm sure that was due to the number of customers they were working with at the time. It was kind of loud with all those people in there, but the decor is really cute. Overall, it was a delightful breakfast experience. read more

Hot Plate is hands down my favorite spot to get pancakes in the cities. Location, staff, quality- can't beat. For the location, you'll need to parallel park, but I've never had an issue finding a spot. You'll want to make sure to either expect a wait, or come at a non peak time. They get busy, and for good reason. I'll also add, every quote I've had for a wait has consistently been overstated by 5 or so. Which I appreciate. Under promise, over deliver. The location itself is diner-esque. I tend to find myself at their counter (4 seats total). They aren't big on the inside, but seating is ample enough featuring tables and booths. If you have a party greater than 4 I'd def be mindful of how busy they can get at peak time. The staff is a key highlight. Love the ladies here and what I believe might be the owner/manager. They're all so kind, upbeat and attentive. Such a fun vibe to them all which speaks to the culture of the team. Their pancakes are so fluffy and full flavored. I always do the short stack which is two pancakes vs three for a full stack. Super filling. I also always opt for the lingonberry butter which imo can replace use of syrup. Absolutely delicious. They have a few different fun options including pumpkin buckwheat, you can get blueberries and chocolate on your pancakes, but I swear by the standard. Try and you'll agree. Pricing is beyond fair and arguably a killer value. Check them out and see how they rank against your favorite, I think you may have a new fave leaving. read more

I was super bummed about our experiencing after reading so many good reviews about this place. 35 minute wait--no big deal, Saturday at prime breakfast time. Once we got to our table no one took a drink order for nearly 10 mins, then we had to wait almost another 10mins to order. Our waiter was nice, but never came back to the table until we requested the check after waiting again and trying to get moving, since we had a morning appt. I tried the pancakes, which were dense, and scrambled eggs and bacon. Eggs were fine, bacon weirdly flavorless. My sister and cousin both had the French toast and enjoyed it, and that's honestly what saved them from a one star review. Best thing: decor is fun. Worst thing: service. read more

I've always passed by this restaurant because I lowkey thought it was an antique store but came because of a recommendation from my friend to try it with her. When you walk in, you are welcomed by a lot of knickknacks and antique looking furniture (hence why I thought it was an antique store lol) the menu is between a lot of American style food but I later learned the owners are from Mexico so they have that infused as well! I had the breakfast veggie burrito with chipotle sauce on the side and it was AMAZING so flavorful! Soooo, I'm not sure if they have a secret menu for certain Yelpers or if they have a Michelin-star chef who comes during the week... but yeah, this was not it. I came here strictly because of all the great reviews on Yelp, and let me tell you, I felt bamboozled. Let's start with the ambiance... there wasn't any. They had a lot of cool artwork on the walls, but that's where it ended. The food was soooooooo mediocre. I was pretty disappointed with Hot Plate - I had higher expectations. The service was good - folks who worked there were kind and efficient. We were seated right away, so that was also a plus. Unfortunately, our food was lacking much flavor or spices/salt. I ordered the Grand Marais Scramble. It seemed like the eggs were cooked and then a hunk of cream cheese and trout was added after. The asparagus wasn't seasoned, and I think the breakfast potatoes were the best thing about the dish. My partner ordered the poutine dish and said the gravy seemed underseasoned and a little one note. I made the mistake of getting a cappuccino, which was just coffee-flavored milk. The decor was very unique - I found it to be unsettling (which may have been the point). It did seem to cater to a lot of families and smaller children, which would make sense with the blandness of the food, so I think this would be a great spot to bring family. It had enough variety in the menu that everyone could find something they were interested in. We won't be returning, but we understand the draw to specific clientele. I was excited to try this place out after seeing all the amazing reviews and drool-worthy photos, but turned out to be a disappointing experience :'( We were told that the wait will be 15-20 minutes, but turned out to be 30-40 minutes - which is totally understandable and didn't mind the wait. We did see parties that arrived after us be seated before us (and they had the same number of people as we did). The food here wasn't amazing, but really liked that they had unique menu items that I didn't see anywhere else. I tried the breakfast poutine, and it was not the greatest. It would definitely help to balance this dish with a sweet one! The service was amazing and our waiter was super friendly and the prices of the food was worth the portion for sure. Super kitschy spot located in what looks like an old house! I loved the ambiance and the knickknacks all over the walls. Walking in as a solo diner I got seated right away and had a hard time choosing what to order - it all sounded so good! I ended up with eggs, bacon, and pecan pancakes. The eggs and bacon were standard fare - nothing special, the pancake was the star with delicious pecans cooked into the pancake and topped generously with even more! June 2025 The place looks great, my expectations were higher based on the atmosphere. The food was not good. Ham and eggs, the ham that was used was thin sliced sandwich meat. The bacon from the bacon and eggs was dry and brittle, the scrambled eggs sat under the heat lamp so long that the plate was extremely hot and the eggs were very dry. I ordered the Corn-beef Hash again the Corn-beef was very thin sliced sandwich meat over cooked. The hash was not hash but instead was breakfast potatoes that were crisped in a fryer. I picked out the big chunks of onions that were mixed in. I asked for a side of gravy to help with the meal. The homemade sausage and wild rice gravy had a floury flavor that was not good. Lacked the sausage but it did have some rice, I can't say what type of rice. I did not see or taste the right texture for wild rice. I was disappointed. read more

It's no lie, I love breakfast food. I can eat it for all meals of the day, and found Hot Plate via Yelp. No parking lot, but plenty of street parking in this quaint residential neighborhood. It was packed on a Friday evening, and there's lots of little trinkets and paintings all over the restaurant. Service was great and they allowed me to order an iced coffee even though it's not on the menu. I will say their tables are a bit cramped at the booths, as we were constantly shaking the table with every little move. I ordered the breakfast poutine as it's not something I typically can find and has all my favorites. Bacon, sausage, potatoes, eggs, onion, cheese and gravy! Ordered with a side of rye. It was a hefty dish, though I did wish they put the toast on a separate plate to make it easier. There wasn't as much gravy as I had expected, and was getting some sweetness from this dish. Well I should have known everyone else would have the same idea I did on a holiday, coming here for brunch. I really hate that they don't take reservations. We got here and they told us 45 minutes, which is about what it ended up being. She ended up eating our food after they closed for the day. At least we got coffee while we waited. But I also should have known they would be out of all the things I wanted. The food was decent, and it's probably fine on a regular weekday, but on a weekend or holiday, I think you can go somewhere else and wait less time and have better food. read more
