My family and I have been going to breakfast here for my kids' entire lives (son is 15 yo), and this breakfast place is still not only our favorite breakfast place in San Diego but our favorite restaurant overall. When we enter the restaurant we are welcomed with open arms not only by the family that owns this franchise, but by every employee who works there (basically the same staff from when we first walked in years ago-that speaks volumes there!). Instead of sending the eggs back, we both ate them. we both paid the price... sick from those eggs. When it's $20 for breakfast, you'd expect a decent meal. Just don't come here if you want customization or changes because they will charge you out the wahzoo! If I did the customization that I wanted I'd have a $30 meal just got me... Long review alert. Family member hospitalized after dine in. My family of four came in for a brunch on Sunday 12/5 around 10:30AM. The service was slow at the beginning, and it took us over 20 mins to get someone order the food for us, but we didn't complain. My 80 yo father-in-law ordered a corn beef hash, and he told us after the fact that the food tasted a bit sour, but he didn't think too much then. A few hours after they went home, my father-in-law started having very bad stomach issue. He vomited out all the food, and started having diarrhea too. His vomiting lasted 2 full days, and even when he drank water, he would throw it up. His diarrhea didn't stop until Wednesday morning. He was so sick and dehydrated we had to take him to the ER Tuesday evening. However, his condition didn't improve, and he started having fever Friday morning and felt so weak he fell from the bed when trying to go to the bathroom. We had to call 911 to take him to the hospital, and he's been hospitalized since then (12.10.21). Doctor confirmed it's bacteria-induced pneumonia. My father-in-law already had compromised immune system after non-hodgkin's lymphoma treatment this summer. He was starting to build his immune system back, but this happened. Though my father-in-law did have compromised health conditions, providing clean and safe food to customers should be any restaurant's 1st priority. I really hope Original Pancake House's irresponsibility and negligence in food handling doesn't affect other customers' health in the future. read more

Haven't been here in a long time. Always an awesome meal here. My husband has been craving Swedish pancakes lately. So he chose the pancake house. We arrived early in the morning about 8:00am which is the best time of the day or you will have to wait for a very long time. We were seated immediately by a very friendly young lady. Coffee came quickly along with our menus. My husband absolutely loves the Swedish pancakes! No fruit or powdered sugar just plain with melted butter. So finely thin and delicate. Me on the other hand am not a big fan. Give me a regular pancake and I'm good! The corned beef hash was magnificent. Crispy and delicious with the lovely egg yolk melting over it. So good. I like this location. It feels sleepy compared to the bustling vista location. I don't know about you, but I prefer a quiet breakfast filled with bacon pancakes! Those are my go-to here. I've never been to one of these but it was exactly what I expected. The place is a lot bigger inside than I thought would be. Very high industrial ceilings which were a strange contrast from the quaint decorations of the restaurant and yellow-ish rag painted walls. The food was good, but I only ordered eggs and pancakes so I may have missed out. The kid at the table next to us ordered what I found out was a German pancake (I had to ask the waitress it so piqued my interest). I don't know how it tasted but the presentation was definitely impressive! The service was excellent so if you're looking for a good breakfast at a decent price, you can't go wrong by coming here. read more

This place was okay. The hash was under cooked. We ordered two omelettes one was over cooked and it had to much cheese. I'm sure they added that extra cheese because the egg was practically brown so drown it in cheese. I'm not complaining I love cheese. But when you serve a brown eggs to a child they get all weirded out. Just saying. I'm glad we got to try this place in Encinitas. My father in law loves this place.
