Passing through town and stopped for breakfast. The pancakes are great and coffee is good. The ingredients seemed of quality in the world of processed foods. Be aware though that they charge a 5% supplemental fee and they set their lowest tip at 22%. This is not inviting nor do I think it's professional. Costs have risen for all of us not just restaurants. At least work the supplemental fee into your prices. read more

Very disappointing birthday breakfast. My wife came in with two very young children, and the service was slow and inattentive from beginning to end. Her bowl was actually pretty good, but the $2 bacon add-on amounted to only a few crumbles. When she explained that it wasn't enough to share with her toddler, the server simply said "OK," so she had to order him a separate pancakes-and-bacon plate. The plate arrived without the bacon. The server walked away so quickly that she had to find the hostess and ask her to track him down. When the bacon finally came, it was only one strip. She was also asked whether she wanted fruit, but wasn't told it would be an additional charge. Her main reason for visiting was the $10 birthday reward, yet feeding herself and one small child still came to nearly $50 after the discount. Then she waited so long for the check that the children became restless and she felt compelled to apologize to nearby diners. Not much of a birthday experience. Management should take a serious look at the service, communication about charges, and overall value. read more

The Benedict would have been a 12 out of 10 had the eggs actually been cooked, the whites were not cooked at all, complete raw egg white spilling over the rest of it! So did I send it back? Got here at 8:15 on a Saturday. There were plenty of seats available and the bar was fully open. Even as 8:30 rolled around, you'd be fine getting a great seat. I was surprised. Happily surprised. I ordered a Vanilla Latte - extra hot. It was wonderful. After a bit it cooled down more than my liking (I microwave my morning coffee probably 2-3 times while drinking it. I know ...) My waitress offered to do the same - I've never had anyone offer to warm my cup back up. Well it was PERFECT and she allowed me to fully enjoy my cuppa right down to the last sip. A big THANK YOU for that. My friend and I shared the Spinach and Mushroom Hash plate. It was good - I didn't care for the pickled onions though - I'll take them out next time. I came here with friends around 11am on a Saturday. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated right away at an outdoor table. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the Avocado Toast. It came with a generous portion of avocado and a side salad. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. First time at this restaurant and it was super busy with a private party in their outdoor patio and a 20-30min wait for a table. Luckily it was just 2 of us and we were able to be seated immediately at the counter. The staff was friendly and attentive. We got fresh squeezed OJ, fried chicken and waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, and the breakfast sandwich with hash browns. All of our food was delicious and we had plenty to take home as leftovers. Reasonably priced for great restaurant quality food. (If you want cheaper prices then go elsewhere and get cheap fast food.) The parking lot was full that day. I heard a customer mention he parked all the way on the other side of the shopping center since there was no parking close by. Be cautious of the two areas with one way lanes and there's some spots reserved for the Well Fargo bank (although it was a Sunday so people took any space they could find). read more

I did a review on this place this morning. I don't know where it went. Once I got the bill I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. My wife and I got the eggs Benedict and shared that, it was perfect. Also, there was a side of a pancake and we asked if we could have that as the lemon and ricotta pancake, and they said yes. And we got 2 cups of coffee. They have a spicy hollandaise, but I asked for regular and asked for a little on the side to try the spicy. Here's the heads up. although I was told it would be six dollars it turned out to be eight dollars for the pancake because we wanted the lemon ricotta, but then we were also charged a supplemental fee of two dollars just "because" according to the server. I guess they're calling it a supplemental fee. It looks like on the receipt. It's for the lemon ricotta but when I asked about it because the pancake edition should be six dollars, and it was eight dollars, then $1.95 for supplemental and it was explained to me that that is because things are more expensive now. I could've probably asked for it to be removed but it's two bucks. I was not gonna worry about it, but I just wanted to give everybody a heads up. The people are nice. The ambience is perfect and the food is delicious but when the bill comes, it's going to have a few surprises. read more

I usually have a good experience at this brunch spot. Here's a fun fact...the beach plum is a native fruit which grows mostly in the wild along the coastal communities from Maine to Virginia. I thought it was super cool that the owners are East Coast transplants just like me. The atmosphere is inviting and laid-back. I can tell the cleaning is kept up with. The staff are welcoming when I dine-in... seating is pretty quick and service very good. There are a plethora of food options, some traditional and some innovative. It felt a little too heavy for breakfast for me. Some of the meat was fatty. It was still good but I would get something different next time. Our server was spot on w/service & detail. Recently went here for breakfast since we were in the area. The restaurant is located in a shopping center towards the back. We walked in and were seated right away. I ordered some coffee and the two egg breakfast plate . Which came with two eggs , bacon, and hash browns and a side of sour toast. You can pick from chicken sausage, regular sausage or bacon and they also have some other bread choices. My husband ordered a healthy breakfast bowl which he absolutely loved, my daughter had the breakfast burrito and my son had the chicken and waffles. All of the food was delicious and if in the area we will definitely be back. The thing I was most impressed with was the coffee ( regular brewed coffee) it was so good it didn't need sugar! Stopped in for brunch over the weekend and was surprised that we didn't have to wait too long for a table (around 20 minutes for a party of 7). Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating and they allowed us to have a dog on the patio. Everything on the menu sounded great. I went there the third Saturday of every month for years. (There's a meeting in the Carlsbad Library, which is a short walk away.) I loved the place - the only problem was getting a table because it was always crowded. The last time I went, the BPK was close to empty. I soon discovered why. They have a mandatory 20% (which isn't made particularly clear, so double tipping is a thing) plus a 5% fee, which is only mentioned in fine print on the menu. All told, I spent $32 for a plate of eggs and a cup of black coffee. Their greed threw away three regular customers. read more

Used to like this place for brunch and came here with my kids. Their service went way down. They are really stingy with the food they serve for the price they charge, especially for children. There was one tiny slice of bacon on my 9 year old's plate. My added bacon fur extra charge was barely there crumpled up into tiny pieces. The "fresh" strawberries and blueberries weren't that fresh and strawberries were not ripe. It's too expensive for the mediocre service and dishes that don't provide that great of the quality. Lots of pinks and purples most likely to represent their name and the fact they sell delicious jam! Jam was so fresh that my MIL purchased for herself. I believe they are 9 dollars each or 3 for 25. Food was tasty, and quantity was enough to share amongst the table. I tried the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were fluffy, sweet and creamy. My FIL purchased the DIY omelet, and my BIL ordered the chilaquiles. No complaints at the table. Server was sweet and personable. Always available to fill the coffee and water. Went into breakfast today and had an amazing experience!!! The food was so delicious but what made the experience above and beyond was the service. I brought my two daughters with me and they both agreed that our breakfast was such a wonderful experience. Our server Hannah was patient, compassionate, knowledgeable, attentive and probably one of the best servers I have ever had!!! Breakfast Burrito, Traditional Benedict, Two Eggs Any Style, Coffee with Almond Milk, a Latte, and a Southwest Bowl made vegan and amazing! with soyrizo.
