The drinks and the food were fantastic. We ordered the Clover Club (favorite drink at our table), Ostrich Pornstar and French Martini. You are able to order food from the Crust Simply Italian restaurant menu and it gets served to you. We ordered the Spicy Garlic Knots and the Calabrian chili it comes with on the side was perfection for that kick spicy food lovers look for. The Margherita pizza tasted fresh, warm, crispy and I would order again. We came in on a Friday night (9pm), we were greeted and sat in a booth for four right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was busy, lively, loud, super dark and filled with eye catching artwork/photos.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only part I did not enjoy in my experience was our server. Our server provided us with subpar service because she would not let me finish my statement, would leave me mid-sentence, would forget to check in our table, once I paid she left quickly and didn't give me a chance to request my receipt on her handheld card reader. I would return for the drinks, food and hope the service from the server would improve.

Sat at the bar with one of my girlfriends we had a great time. The drinks were very good and bartenders were attentive. Drinks are on the expensive side but the establishment has a high end atmosphere. Definitely a nice to place hangout and chat with friends or go on a cute date.

Having been here a few times this is definitely a favorite! Their "blue-footed boobie" cocktail has a great balance of flavors and a pleasantly smoky finish. While the food is not the primary focus it is available and pretty good. The calimari was crispy and satisfying for those looking for a conventional snack. The bone marrow is also quite good, but my friends and I found we still had a fair bit of marrow when we ran out of toast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The slightly hidden exterior as well as the interior decor both complement the speakeasy vibes quite nicely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service can get slow when they are busy, especially when a lot of people are ordering cocktails with egg whites. So it may not be the best option if time is an issue.

One of my go to spots for a cocktail towards the end of the night when you're looking for that chillled out vibe. One thing is for sure, they need to fix that front door because we're standing there pulling on it forever, and it never opened. Maybe it's on a timer, as there were about 5 of us standing out front messing with it trying to get in... Eventually it just took a subtle pull to open... go figure! They have couch seating for that lounge & chill group, comfortable seating, high tables, and at the bar, along with larger group tables around the corner. The decor definitely helps to make for some conversations as they have mug shots of everybody all around the wall. ... I forgot about a few which were funny as they have now gone mainstream and it's probably been forgotten. To drink, stuck with some classic cocktails and tried the French Martini. Customer service was split, hence only 4 stars. We came late before closing. Had a few of the staff engaging with us while 2 in particular were ready to call it a night. Gotta always make sure the guests have a good experience to keep them coming!

We went to The Ostritch for some birthday drinks and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was very happy with the drinks, service and atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the "Head in the Sand", which was a rum drink and very tasty. The lime overpowered the vanilla and orgeat, but otherwise was good. I also ordered a "No barq all bite" which was good but quite sweet. Others in our party ordered the calamari and bone marrow which I did not try but they said were good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere is great and the service was good as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will go back

Short Ribs, Aged old fashion, strawberry mint whiskey

We had such a nice time at the Ostrich. Arrived (2) around 6 on a Saturday. Greeted and sat right away in a nice comfy booth. Some of the best drinks I've had in a long time. Just really well made. Aged old fashion: so smooth, strawberry mint whiskey (on Crust menu, but basil) : really refreshing, and the baker is like a whiskey sour: so yummy. Ordered the oysters, really good actually, a little awkward to eat, you only get two slices of bread so I can't imagine sharing it with more than one person. We both got the short ribs, very tender and juicy. The meat it self lacked a tiny bit of flavor but once combined with the sauce and everything, really good. It came out extremely fast. Service was good: pleasant, helpful and attentive enough. As the night got later the place got more full. Decor is fun with the mug shots everywhere plus the ostrich lol. Area and Restrooms were clean. From one of the pictures I knew where to walk to, if you're facing the restaurant look to the left side, there's white stairs,go down, open the door. You can wear whatever you want, dress up or dress down. People in jeans and sandals, others in nice attire plus wedges/heels. Expect speakeasy prices: our drinks 18 each, our meal 28 each Since it's a smaller place, low ceilings, as the night went on, music and people got louder (even a large crowd can make the noise amplify easily) so a bit harder to talk. I would recommend and def come back but I'll probably aim for an early week night. Great date spot or catching up with friends. I think Since they offer drinks with smoke , when I first walked in it smelt very Smokey, I think an air purifier or two could help that sensation of being surrounded by smoke

The joys of stumbling upon a speakeasy. I am the self-appointed king of speakeasies in Phoenix (and surrounding areas) so let me present to you the best speakeasy I have been to so far in the state: The Ostrich. On a Thursday evening, I had tickets to see a performance at The Chandler Center of the Arts. After dinner, I had half an hour to spare. I came across The Ostrich on the trusty Yelp app and made my way over. Ambiance (5/5): Speakeasies have become so popular that many have sprouted up which aren't true speakeasies. They cater to Instagram culture and to pretentiousness which is exactly the opposite of the roots of speakeasies. The Ostrich is not like that. As a true speakeasy should be, there is no signage. You'll see an ostrich in the vicinity and a random stairwell. Go down the stairwell and you will see an ostrich on the door. Enter and you will discover a large speakeasy with seating at the bar, tables, and booth seating. The decor is great. You'll see pictures of ostriches accompany mugshots. An ostrich with its head in the ceiling. Funny images of ostriches. They live up the theme and they do it well. And there are historical roots. During the Prohibition era, the basement where the speakeasy is located housed live ostriches. Ostrich features were sold to Hollywood celebrities. Pretty awesome. When I attended, there was a networking event going on which made it louder than what I anticipate is the typical experience. Service (4.5/5): I didn't have a lot of time to spare and luckily the bartender approached me pretty quickly, made my craft cocktail, and closed me out. Quick and painless. Food (N/A): While they do have food, mostly appetizers, I had already had dinner previously. They also have a reverse happy hour with discounts on some of the food items as well as their classic cocktails. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of a speakeasy, you think of elevated cocktails. The Ostrich has a good number of classic cocktails which didn't interest me much. I was looking for something more creative and unique. They have a good number of those, too. I selected one inspired by the Tarantino classic, Kill Bill. Exactly what I was hoping for. An interesting fusion of flavors with elegance. On Tuesday, they have a tiki Tuesday. I must return for that. My only complaint? Their happy hour is from 5-6. 1 hour?! Come on! A publication voted The Ostrich as the best speakeasy in the state. For good reason.

Some places deserve more than five stars, and this is definitely one of them. It was our anniversary so we decided to try someplace new, and this place did not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A seedy little spot underneath the crust restaurant, you could enter either through a hidden door inside the restaurant or off the side of the building. It made the experience that much more fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff dresses in speakeasy period clothing and everyone was super friendly and good at their jobs. Since we moved to Arizona we've been looking for a good place to make whiskey drinks, and have had our fair share of misses. We've gotten to the point where if we ask for a drink and they have to pull a book out it's not the place to go. We did not have this problem here. Probably some of the best drinks we've ever had, and we've had our fair share to compare. It was pretty exciting to see bone marrow on the menu, and while I should quit saying that something is the best we've ever had, I would be lying if I didn't say that this was. It was cooked to perfection and the spicy peppers on top with the grilled bread . Just Yum! We had the Lombardi pizza and again every bite was amazing. Now, when it came to dessert, this is where we get a little judgmental! :-) We ordered the butter cake, which is one of our favorite desserts but one that can also go very very bad. Again I'm gonna use the word best, or at least a close rival to a place in Washington DC. Everything about it was perfection. All of those and fair pricing, who would've thought. We cannot wait to go back !

We had a great time at the Ostrich. It's rather hidden and low key but once you are in, it's got that secretive vibe. The server was quick and prompt. The cocktails are nice and strong too. It's a bit dark in there but I loved the set up.

Soooooo let me start by saying, I don't want to spoil the way to get to the entrance here on Yelp. As a Chandler resident for 7 years, I would have NEVER guessed that the entrance of The Ostrich would be RIGHT THERE the entire time!!! I can't even tell you how many Saturday mornings (farmers market) I've walked towards it, near it, past it, and yea, not a clue!! Lol!! Have fun, my fellow Yelpers! Okay, back to F&B report. Love love love!! My friends and I (3 people) came here for happy hour on a weekday, so we felt very taken care of. The food came out at a decent time, the drinks were delicious. Portion sizes are spot on (see photos) The service was excellent (shout out to Emma) and we were ask if everything was okay every 10-15 minutes, even after all of our food and drinks came out. I would have never imagined myself coming here had it not been my friend's recommendation. This place is officially on my top 5 HH list. I am not a dressed up type, but this place gave me a small motivation to do so, just because of the decor and how dark it was haha. Granted I saw other guests came in with jeans and tank tops no problem, and no special dress code is required.

Had a great time here with some friends! Tons of really fun cocktails and our waiter was very knowledgable, friendly and patient with us. One thing that is also unique compared to other speakeasies is that you have access to the full crust restaurant menu (the restaurant is above the ostrich basement). We loved the spicy rolls so much we ordered two! Definitely looking forward to coming back. read more

Was a super legit bar with an amazing assortment of fine cocktails by one of the nations top mixologist, but the service has steadily gone downhill, while the clientele has also seemed to tank. If you're going to charge a premium for cocktails, then I expect the service to match, which as of late it has not. Also, you get zero cellular service inside, so you better have made all your plans prior to, because no one will be able to reach you once inside. read more

Great idea. Good food. There is a single toilet bathroom for the women, which I feel is questionable for a bar. This place was incredibly loud and it was hard to speak to anyone in our large group. Not only that, but the music kept climbing throughout the evening. It almost felt like they were trying to push folks out with the music! Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to have conversations with my party, not hollering across the table over the music. read more

I never give yelp reviews but I HAVE to rave about the bartender/server(?) Thomas!! We came here at the end of the night after my wedding & he was so fun, attentive, and treated our party so graciously! He gave us the perfect ending to our perfect day, plus a special shot based on our individual tastes for me & the new hubs!! We'll definitely be back! A good "bucket list" bar purely for the speakeasy mystery and atmosphere/décor, but I wouldn't come here on a regular basis. The dim lighting takes some adjustment to get used to and makes it hard to order when you first arrive. With little airflow throughout, it can get warm and humid and it shows on their pipes which occasionally drip condensation. There is only one female and one male restroom so be prepared to stand in line whenever you need to go. The drinks are a little pricey at $12, but definitely delicious. We didn't order from the menu which comes from Sauce located right above them, but food smelled great at tables nearby. read more

After reading several sub-par reviews I had to add my own about the The Ostrich. At least in the central Arizona market, there has been a quiet resurgence of speak-easy type (themed?) bars that have some sort of soul and personality. The Ostrich is rich in history from the earliest days of the town, and after considerable work has opened to give us locals, as well as travelers, another place to enjoy a unique atmosphere and energy. I was there on a Saturday night after enjoying a dinner with a wedding party upstairs at Crust. Brandon came by and somehow after chatting, he invited us down for a look-see. The place was not overstuffed, it was higher energy, it wasn't deafening loud, it had tons of local history (Monti's bartop and booths!), it was dim, and the drinks were strong! So, if you have a group of 20 at 11PM on a weekend - don't be upset they couldn't accommodate you, there's a giant restaurant/patio/bar upstairs to go to. If you're not a fan of noisy ambiance - turn around and go upstairs. If you're taking your parents here thinking of an Applebee's experience, turn around and go upstairs. If you're afraid of the dark and/or don't like basements, go upstairs... If you were hoping for something extremely different than 99% of the bars in town - give this a shot and have a martini. read more

Ok first off there is no sign to tell you where this place is. Apparently you can enter from the restaurant when it's open otherwise you have to go to the side of the building where the parking is and walk down a basement entrance! My husband and I would of been lost, if it wasn't for one of the restaurant employees that happen to be closing up tell us where to go. A couple friend of ours found this place and wanted us to try it out. The lighting in here is very dim and it is a basement area but it looked like a fancy basement area. Kinda creepy area if you don't like a basement setting too much haha. We had to use their candles they had on the table to see the drink menu which is strap to a piece of wood. We notice others had to use the light from their phones to see the drink menu! So now I don't feel so old that we couldn't see. The drinks are made very strong so honestly you only need 2 to get a good buzz going. The kitchen was closed since we came on a Wednesday night at 830pm. I'm guessing the weekends they open later. For a total of 8 drinks we paid $120! Yeah it's pricey. It's a unique place though and some interesting drinks so give it a try if your in the area. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. My girlfriend had once had not so welcoming experience. Thomas most definitely changed that. The drinks were amazing and now we're trying to see when's the next time he's working lol. Didn't get a chance to eat the food but that will be next. read more

We'd been pushing our wedding date out due to Covid...no place would allow us to hold a reception/event. We finally decided to just move forward with close family and a few friends. Had to move our reception 4 times, the last one coming the day before the wedding! We were referred to Javier at The Ostrich in Chandler, who went WAY above and beyond in helping us put something together. The Crust provided great food, The Ostrich allowed us to come in and decorate, the wait staff (especially Thomas) was amazing at making sure we had everything we needed! What was setting up as a royal pain, wound up being an GREAT DAY! Thanks again to Javier, Thomas and the staff at The Ostrich and Crust! read more

Cool vibe and very fun ambiance! Drinks were good too and you can tell they put lots of effort into the speciality cocktails. Minus one star on this review for Service. We were asked to move from the couches... which were not marked as reserved. We were reseated by the hostess and then moved again! How strange. I think they should mark tables/couches as reserved as to avoid all the confusion. read more

I absolutely love this place. Truly a hidden gem in Chandler. They have an extensive drink menu, I promise there is something for everyone. The atmosphere is awesome. The food does not disappoint. I suggest the bruschetta - the Prosciutto and strawberry is the best! read more

I was SO excited to try this place, but I was underwhelmed. It's a tricky place to find, which makes it all the better. There's a red light above a stairwell next to Crust with a bouncer. The place is very cute! Cozy couches and a long bar... We ordered drinks, the only one I remember the name of was the French 75, which was pretty good! I wasn't a big fan of the other cocktails that my friends tried, though. We also ordered a pesto bacon pizza. It was HUGE. Great for sharing. I was disappointed with the service, unfortunately. We were made to move tables and were ignored by the waitresses on the far half of the place. Luckily the table they made us move to was in the section of a really sweet waitress. She made the experience much better! But with all the other bars around this place isn't on my list to go back to. read more

Very cool little speakeasy place, we've heard many good things about it so we finally gave it a try when we had some friends in town. Super cool atmosphere, really good stiff drinks. I had the zombie and yowza, it was strong and delicious! Really good service even though they were busy on a Friday night at 10 o'clock. Definitely a little spendy, it's a one or two cocktails every once in a while kind of place, but we'll definitely be back! read more

Been coming here since about January (few months). This bars atmosphere is very nice and fun! The bartenders and staff at the ostrich are super friendly and some of the best at their craft! I have never been disappointed with a drink that's been served to me here. The general manager is always present with his staff and the guest and I couldn't recommend a better place to enjoy a nice cocktail, or to find an amazing bar/restaurant experience! read more

I have been here before and there drinks are bomb, went there on March 13 2920, sadly to post this but I looked at my bank card transaction and it's so wrong for someone to add to there tip !!! I left a $9 tip and Anneleise in server change it to $19 dollars!!!! How wrong of you for doing this I hope you probably needed more that me but my books that's stealing and I will be calling the restaurant to let them know!!!!!! Hard times don't give her the right to add extra tip money!!!!! read more

I recently worked with the owner to plan my 40th birthday here. He was so nice and willing to help in anyway. The night of could not have gone more smooth with the staff! Each staff member called me by name, made me feel like a queen and created amazing drinks for approx 60 of my family and friends all night that were there celebrating with me. I wish I could remember everyone's name to give them a special spot light, but I can tell you Ron worked his magic keeping up will all our drink orders, Malory, the bar manager, checked in with us multiple times to make sure we were happy, Steve kept the amazing food coming, hot and fresh...the food was DELICIOUS! Shannon was such a sweetheart at the host stand. I truly could go on and on about how well organized the staff and establishment is. They all worked together to make my 40th the best party! This was the worst customer service I've ever received. My wife and I frequent several restaurants and bars. Our friends had a marriage reception at San Tan brewing (which we absolutely love) and everyone wanted to know where to go after hours. So we had cocktails and dealt with the rudest manager (don't swing the lights). My wife complained and her manager was even worse. He made the statement that he will always side with his employees over his customers. NEVER GOING BACK. read more

The Ostrich has an identity crisis. It thinks it's a lowkey speakeasy by having well dressed door men welcome you at the inconspicuous entrance of stairs that lead to the basement. Once inside, you realize that you're still in suburban chandler, the basement is the size of your typical giant bar & grill. The crowd is your typical riff raff that shows up to Sandbar, nothing says classy craft cocktail bar like dudes in flip flops & tank tops showing off their nipple hair. Very disappointed in The Ostrich, just tried going with a group of people, however couldn't get in because some of the group, including myself we're wearing sandals... We were all dressed nicely and classy and we do live in AZ, I'd think they'd realize it's 100 degrees outside and this is normal attire for patrons. Talked with countless other people who were also turned away from the "new code" that started to get enforced yesterday, however nothing was published about this new dress code. Even the bouncer stated, wow "I'm making everyone mad tonight". Not to mention we saw four very large guys WELL under dressed wearing flip flops walking out...but they were ok to be there because they got there before 9pm. These new rules are arbitrary and not consistent and very disappointing. read more

Really enjoyed the vibe inside and our server was super cool. A wide variety of drinks offered of all liquors and they are made pretty well, only had a problem with being charged full price for mocktails since one of our friend's was pregnant and couldn't drink; however, we didn't realize until after we paid and left which is when we did to math to find out mocktails are priced the same. read more

Made reservations in advance for our group. Great communication. Service was excellent, and the food and drinks were delicious. We ordered dinner from The Crust menu. Originally planned to go to RigaTonys, but they were unable to accommodate a table of six. So, we decided to give this place a try for the first time. Now it was my understanding that there was a secret downstairs "speakeasy" room that was available only on Fridays and Saturdays. We were pointed on where to go, and as we walked down the stairs it was very exhilarating. It was the secret downstairs room. Almost like we were part of Fight Club. The ambience is very nice. I personally like intimate, dark places...but for some people that have a hard time seeing in the dark (like a server assistant - Be Patient) this could be an issue. Also, it was very hard to have a conversation because it is all cement down there and the sound carried everywhere. Not a lot of options on the menu, but they do have a few specials that they offer in the evening that were not on the menu. I would make sure to ask your servers about them, if they are not offered. Now, it was about this time that the whole issue of it being dark down there, became a REAL ISSUE. I ordered a beer and I had it on the table. A person in my party ordered a garlic knot sampler, and the server's assistant placed the plate on my beer glass and tipped my entire glass over. FULL BEER all over my jeans (see below)!!!! Now, she was very nice about it (never said sorry), but she did run and get me a few towels. Had almost a "deer in headlights" look. I was able to dry out throughout the evening, but still was upset that I mentioned it to my waitress...and I not once was approached from a manager to see if there was anything they could do. After drying off and soaking up the spill with some bathroom paper towels, I was able to prepare to eat my meal. I ordered the bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp (special) and an individual pepperoni pizza (I just wanted to try their pizza). The food was good...nothing spectacular, but it was good. I was not that impressed with the pizza. The "CRUST" was thin and wet. I did enjoy the bacon wrapped shrimp though. I do want to say that our server was awesome. We had the privilege to have Melissa, so if you go there, I would request her. I am not the type of customer to complain too management. We were joking that it was probably the girls (server assistant) first day on the job, and just the thought of knowing what just had happened on your first day, is going to haunt her for days to come. LOL We never saw her again...so I am sure she was embarrassed about the whole situation. I wasn't about to make her night worse. Will we be back? Sure....why not. Probably not for a while....but it might be an option if we are downtown and are in the mood for Italian. Not a lot of options there. read more

The only thing challenging about this place was finding it. But that was a bit of the adventure. It's down below the Italian restaurant so if your Google maps it you'll be staring at the Italian restaurant figuring out how to get in. It's a stairway on the side of the building with a small placard in an ostrich on it. The ambiance is like an old basement with speakeasy type charm fantastic drinks and the food can you ordered off of the menu from the Italian restaurant above it. Really cool. We recently stopped by here to celebrate my dad's birthday. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. Andrew was our bartender and really made the visit. He made us a couple custom drinks and they were amazing. He gave us some background on the history of the place and made some food recommendations. One of the things I love doing is checking and reviewing bars in town. The Ostrich has a new team behind the stick and they are amazing individuals. Talented. Mixologists. Awesome venue with that prohibition feel. The crew makes cocktails on the fly. Every cocktail is better than the previous one. I've been to the "other" underground speakeasy type of bar, and this one is FAR better. The cocktails are spot on. I enjoy the atmosphere so much better. Best of all - you don't need to arrange to get a password to get in. A friend took us here, and I'm glad she did. I never would have known it existed. I'll definitely have to go back, but next time, I'll make it my first stop instead of my last so that I can enjoy more than one drink! read more

Finally a serious cocktail bar in Chandler (RIP Barrelhouse)! Swanky and slick, The Ostrich casts a speakeasy vibe with a touch of upscale nightclub. Dark corners, old school vinyl booths and well-heeled cocktail waitresses. Classic cocktails served with attention to detail and technique. They aren't messing around here. I'm an Old Fashioned snob, and these guys get it right on so many levels. The place is hidden. No signs. Underground, figuratively and literally. To find it, look for the descending stairs on the South wall of Crust. When we were there, there was a line to get in. Prices reflect the upscale atmosphere. $10ish for long fizzy drinks, $12ish for well (and well made) cocktails, and more for the occasional uber fancy drink. Shorts and flip flops will not cut it here. Bring that date you want to impress. read more

Where do I begin? This place is so unique, there really isn't anything like it in the Phoenix area. The speak-easy feel reminded me of being back home in Portland, OR. I was visiting friends in Arizona when someone suggested this place. It was so fun trying to find the hidden door and discovering the dimly-lit, well stocked bar and getting to know the resident ostrich in all of his/her glory. I mean c'mon, a taxidermy ostrich? Yes, please. The bartenders definitely knew what they were doing because our drinks were crafted to perfection. My husband is super picky about his old fashions (he likes the big ice cubes) and sure enough, they had the big ice cubes and the drink was delicious. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I told the bartender what I like and I was impressed by his eagerness to make me something good (most bartenders would just blow me off and give me a half-assed fruity drink). The ambiance is perfect for a date night or just to get away from the monotony of your typical Scottsdale bar. You really do feel like you're in a different world. Located in the basement of Crust Chandler, The Ostrich is a neighborhood craft cocktail lounge inspired by the rich history of the City of Chandler dating back to the founding days of 1912. In the days of prohibition, speakeasies became known for being underground & secret establishments that sold bootlegged alcohol. Guests needing a secret code or password & having to search for a hidden entrance was part of the thrill for patrons, in a time where it was illegal to partake. Today's speakeasy lounges, like The Ostrich, offer unique experiences for guests that allow you to channel the Roaring '20s era vibe & atmosphere in a unique retro setting.

The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

Captain Alex had things running smoothly with the help of Captain Dave (formally of Coabana) The decor is the same, and the drink menu is a bit smaller - 8 signature cocktails and 9 tiki classics. The back page of the menu was all food items. The three cocktails we had were boozy, yet perfectly balanced. The flavors of the drinks were un mistakable, making them more pronounced, and quite frankly, just plain delicious! I'm not sure I can say enough amazing things about The Ostrich but particularly about the staff, their abilities as food service employees, and how welcoming and wonderful they are. My wife and I were overjoyed when they advertised for a cocktail class and immediately purchased tickets to the event. Unfortunately, the event was rescheduled into October when I would be out of town on business. However, Tyler, the Ostrich Manager, put an incredible experience hosted by himself along with Daelyn and (forgive me) another bartender whose name escapes me. We aren't cocktail novices by any means but the class was exceptionally informative and the food pairings that Tyler suggested were equally as incredible. During the entire event, we were given an opportunity to taste fantastic mixed drinks, learn about mixing spirits like Green Chartreuse and absinthe, and generally have our socks continually knocked off by the graciousness of the entire staff. I've loved the fact that Chandler has this type of cocktail bar with skilled staff at every position. I don't need to drive into uptown Phoenix or Scottsdale to get a well-crafted, unique cocktail. Even better are the stories and experiences the staff provide (sit at the bar and get to know them). Tyler, you've solidified customers for life, and the Ostrich (and it's sister locations) will be our go-to for showing off the burgeoning cocktail scene in the East Valley. read more

would never recommend supporting this restaurant after my experience working here. I was fired when I was six months pregnant, rehired later, and then fired again on my very first day back from maternity leave. That was more than enough to show me where employees stand with this management team. In my experience, Jon and Yvette were consistently rude and unprofessional. The way they spoke to both employees and customers made for an uncomfortable environment, and it wasn't something I could overlook. What stood out even more was how easily people were let go. It felt like employees were completely disposable, and people were fired unfairly instead of being treated with respect or given the benefit of the doubt. There was no sense of loyalty or appreciation for the people who kept the place running. If you're looking to support a business that values its employees and treats people with basic respect, this wasn't my experience here. We recently visited the ostrich to celebrate my nephew's birthday, and it was an amazing time as always! This place never disappoints when it comes to great cocktails in a fun, speakeasy atmosphere. We enjoyed a clover club and an old-fashioned-both beautifully crafted and delicious. The dim lighting really adds to the cozy, intimate vibe, but if you want to see the cocktails and all their glory, a flash photo does the trick! Our waitress was fantastic-friendly, attentive, and always making sure we had a drink in hand. She even had the bartender whip up a custom tequila cocktail for me based on their choice. It was incredibly tasty and a perfect surprise addition to the night. Good place to relax and unwind. PROS- Have you ever been to a legit "Speakeasy"? It is awesome. Drinks are strong. Tables and chairs are comfortable. Good music and noise volume is of a crowded/ popular place. Near a lot of downtown chandler establishments. Great for a guys/ girls night and a first time or 1,000th Date. CONS- Underground, so reception is ZERO. When they're busy, it takes a little longer than normal, but that's every popular place. Don't take these cons as a warning or steer you away, I'm just being open and honest about this awesome underground "speakeasy". It's underground under Crust, and the entrance is on the southeast side of Crust. I didn't see a sign, but there's a stairwell down to entrance. Enjoy this place, it's a gem! read more

As someone who is a bartender & has worked in the food industry for 5 years I have NEVER in my lifetime experienced such rude & disgraceful service from a server-let alone a person- in my lifetime at a establishment. Finished our food/ drinks (which also took a long time to get to us) in a hurry just to get out of the place & away from our terrible waitress. A blonde skinny female( may I add did not give us her name) who we had the disfortune of calling our waitress tonight raised her voice at my group & clapped her hands at us, was unpleasant to say the least. I had such a great experience at The Ostrich Speakeasy! The bartenders were incredibly friendly, making the whole vibe even better. The wild-crafted cocktails were beautifully made, tasty, and definitely stood out. We also ordered garlic knots, and they were absolutely amazing--some of the best I've had! It's hard to believe this place is a speakeasy with how fantastic the food and drinks are. The atmosphere is so cool--old and rusty, with tons of character. There was a full bar & a handful of "signature" drinks to choose from. We ended up keeping it simple & getting the Wagyu Burger & Fries. I upgraded to onion rings. It took a little while to get our food, but we were in no rush. The burgers were cooked exactly how we wanted them, and tasted fresh. The onion rings and fries were delicious. The lounge also has another restaurant called "Vybe" attached, with similar food offerings, and a DJ instead of a live band. It's a bit quieter in that area. They also have karaoke suites for rent, which is a really cool option for people who are having a party. A waitress was kind enough to give us a tour of all these areas within the restaurant, and give us all the details about what packages are offered. All in all, we had such a nice night out and will definitely be back in the future.

I also added a side of sweet potato waffle fries. About 25 minutes after we had already placed our order, the server came back and asked if I'd like a different meat. Like of course I don't want a different meat that's why I ordered carne asada. The server didn't say that they were out of carne asada, but I read between the lines and opted for ground beef cause really the queso is what makes the nachos. Also, I couldn't help wondering why it took 25 minutes to find that out. Then the food arrived. My nachos immediately looked different than expected. Instead of queso, they were covered with shredded cheese. Nothing was mentioned about being out of queso. I notice there was none. When I asked about it, the server casually said, "Oh yeah, we're out of queso too." Wait...what? So the restaurant was out of both the carne asada and the queso. The two main ingredients that made me order the dish in the first place. No one cared to mentioned either of those things when taking my order OR when coming back and asking if I wanted a different meat didn't also mention they were out of queso. Had I known, I would have ordered something completely different from the start. To the server's credit, she did let me order something else. Sucks for the kitchen because they were already closed. I ended up getting the sliders, but they were just as underwhelming as everything else. The food overall tasted like frozen products that had simply been reheated. Nothing tasted fresh, especially considering the prices. The biggest issue wasn't just the mediocre food, it was the lack of communication and straight lie when placing my food in front of me. If items are unavailable, tell customers before they order or at least when placing their food down, not after they've waited half an hour and not saying anything at all. Between the disappointing service, poor communication, and unforgettable food for all the wrong reasons, this place completely lost my trust. I'd honestly rather spend half the money at IHOP, where the food is more consistent and I'd know what to expect.

Met a couple of girlfriends for happy hour and we had a fabulous time. The Happy Hour menu is incredible! Happy Hour is available everyday including Sundays from 3-6pm. Beer, wine and well drinks are only $5 and 8 food items for $5 too. I ordered a California roll and egg rolls. The California roll was huge! 8 huge pieces for $5 and was delish! 6 egg rolls for $5 and yummy too! Crazy prices! They also have 4 TV's playing sports. Though barely anyone in the venue on a Friday night, and if you have bottle service, server visits to your table are few and far between. Though they do congregate among themselves and check their phones frequently. Sigh. Fails: Hookah smoking is on the menu. A lame attempt to entice a younger crowd in, while alienating the older crowd that has the disposable income. Vaping is also allowed as staff doesn't admonish you if you do it in the open and in front of other patrons. Total turn off and only reason we would not return. If you want to be respected like a high-end nightclub, act like one and cater to your paying clientele.

The bartender would put every drink ticket directly into the drinks- the servers would fish out the ticket with their fingers to put it on the receipt spike. Not only does receipt paper have higher levels of carcinogens and the ink possibly seeping into the drink- but the cross contamination of the fingers going into the drink is hard to ignore. If the policy is to do this in front of customers, it begs the question- what do they allow behind closed doors?
