This is where old people go to Die. The most boring trip…read moreever. Lonely Old people who want to tell everyone about their boring life and where they have been. The train was terrible. Karen behind me wouldn't shut up. Talked the entire trip. Some old dude walked up and down the aisle playing 70s country music that only enjoyed. You will not be able to enjoy the beauty because the woman on the P A system enjoyed hearing herself talk about total worthless information. She should be limited to 5 minutes instead of yacking do 45 minutes. In my opinion: go to Disneyland and ride the train as much as you like and have a ball.

Grand Canyon Inn Review…read more The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Dates Of Stay: 8/8-9/25 THE GOOD The best and most positively memorable thing I can say about this property, was the restaurant. When we came in to the dining room in the evening, after a long day of activities; the room was mostly empty, except for a few other people. We were greeted by Juan, our server: who seemed genuinely happy to see and serve us. The portions were adequate and delicious. I didn't want a actual meal, and sufficed to have two appetizers: Fried mushrooms with ranch dipping sauce, and deep fried cheese stick with marinara. Both were delicious and filling. The price for a party of four was reasonable, and we all left full and satisfied. The metal artwork (museum) was great for photo ops, but we left early in the morning, and were not able to visit the shops. There were also a collection of some "antique" vehicles, which was also interesting to view. Our rooms were relatively clean. THE BAD This property was not really being kept up. The wooden railings coming up to our second floor rooms were in need of much repair. There were a lot of places on the rails that could cause serious injury to someone (large pieces of sharp wood/splinters) if they didn't see them. As this is Arizona, and we have all kinds of bugs and scorpions: it was not good that we had a large gap at the bottom of our door from the outside. There wasn't a "house phone", but most people carry cell phones, so I guess that is not too much of a problem. Most hotels I have been to and worked at, would have available, such things as extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, and etc.: but not so here. My wife forgot her toothbrush, and not only didn't the hotel have one we could get, the onsite stores were not open to even purchase one there. THE UGLY As a hospitality major, and someone who has worked in this industry for decades in various positions: the number one issue for customers is good customer service. This is a make or break issue, in determining whether someone will come back to an establishment or not. The customer service here, was only ok. When attempting to make a reservation the night before our stay: I called the number from the internet for the property, and was greeted by a man who, by accent, was from India. I just figured he might be an employee or even a new owner. In trying to make the reservation, he couldn't even understand me when I spelled my name slowly and even phonetically. After trying this several times with my name, I also needed to say my phone number several times as well: as he didn't understand that as well. Frustrated, I said that I would just make the reservation when I passed by the next morning on my way to the Grand Canyon at about 6am. When entering the vestibule, I heard someone say "are you checking out". This was creepy, as I was the only person there. It was then that noticed a person on a kiosk screen. Once again I had a person who could not understand my English. The problem was worsened by the apparent lag time in the time it took for my voice to be transferred from AZ to India, and then back. With this lag time, the agent would start talking before I had finished, and didn't hear the complete message. This would not be so, if this motel had an actual In Person front desk clerk. Again, I was frustrated with this poor service: and told the kiosk agent that I would just find someone that I could talk to in person to make my reservation - and I walked away. I went in to the motel, and as I figured, there wasn't anyone at the front desk. That whole area was dark, and uninviting. I could hear sounds coming from the restaurant just down the hall, so I went there. There was no one in the dining room, but I could hear activity going on in the kitchen, so I went there. I saw a woman just inside the doorway to the right, with here head down in her phone. I spoke to her, trying to get her attention, but she never acknowledged me: and just kept her head in her phone. There was another man there, and I asked if she was deaf, but no real response. Finally, another woman came from the back and asked how she could help me. I explained that needed to make a reservation for later that day. She walked with me back to the front desk, and apologized for the trouble I was having: saying that the system they were using was not perfect. She appeared to know somewhat what she was doing, but still wasn't able to make one reservation for two rooms, but instead made two reservations for one room. This flagged my bank account: as it appeared as I was double charged. Due to all the problems that I had with this property, I will not use or recommend this property to family, friends, and especially to my clients that I take as a chauffeur up to the Grand Canyon and beyond.

I stayed in the Mariposa suite and was absolutely delighted with my stay…read more Judy and Eva were communicative and absolutely sweet hosts. Check-in was self-done and seamless, which I appreciated after tons of driving. The suite itself was clean, cozily decorated, well-stocked (hot plate, heater, TV, microwave, mini fridge, towels, soap, you name it), and much more spacious than I'd expected. The wifi did drop from time to time, but it held up consistently for the most part (who's here to use the wifi anyway?) The Dumplin Patch is also an easy 30-minutes drive from the Grand Canyon's southern entrance, which I most certainly appreciated (along with the coffee maker + breakfast burritos) when heading in to the Grand Canyon early in an attempt to beat the spring break crowds. They also provide local tips and recommendations - also much appreciated during a road trip when you're trying to figure out what to do in so little time! The only caveat I'd have is to be careful when pulling in if you have a sedan -- the gravel is a bit higher in most locations and it might roughen up the front of your car a bit if you're not careful. Otherwise, I highly recommend staying at Dumplin Patch -- you won't find a location this close to the Grand Canyon with as wonderful hosts or as great a bargain!

It is very silly to write a Yelp review of a place that's nearly impossible to get a reservation…read moreat. But I do compulsively write Yelp reviews of everywhere I eat, so here goes. Location aside, the "hiker's stew" is genuinely an excellent stew. Good quality big chunks of beef and a really savory broth that lets you know just how long it was cooked. Some vegetables (corn) are likely canned, but that was both a minor issue and to be expected given the location. Overall it's genuinely very tasty. Salad was fresh but unremarkable. Cornbread was excellent. Cake was average. I do wish they had ice cream, but I understand the logistical difficulties there...

There's cabins and bunk houses that require a lottery 15 months in advance, which adds to the exclusivity of the experience. Steak dinner is offered by reservations only for $70pp U.S. From 8am- 8pm, there's a cantina open selling all the things you'd want while backpacking, including cold lemonade, beer, wine, snacks, and first aid items. This week, the canyon was bursting with color from all the flowers and vegetation growing after the heavy snow season. This was truly a special experience! The trail to Ribbon Falls/North Rim was closed at one of the bridges and the creek running too high to attempt a safe crossing, so we enjoyed a rest day and cooled off on the banks of the stunning Colorado River. We took pictures of the current ranch as big changes are underway with a new water system getting installed, which will impact access to the ranch for a while. Special mention to the staff, particularly Zach, who went above and beyond to show us hospitality. Also, best of luck to new hire Tyler as he settles into his new role at the ranch! The ranch is currently short-handed, and some of the staff are really feeling the stress, which is starting to show in their interactions with guests. Remember to be patient and kind. The bottom of the Grand Canyon can't be an easy place to live and work.

From the moment you walk in, you can feel the care, character, and attention to detail in every corner. The owners are incredible, the customer service is top-tier, and even the little touches (like the note left on the bed) made it feel personal and unforgettable. Yes -- it's the oldest hotel in Arizona... but it is by far better than any chain hotel I've ever stayed in. This boutique hotel has class, charm, and a personality you simply can't manufacture. And if you love a little mystery, you'll appreciate that some rooms are rumored to be haunted -- which honestly made it even more fun. It's nestled in a beautiful little town where everyone is welcoming, and it's just a train ride away from the Grand Canyon. Private parking, a stunning ballroom, and rooms that each have their own unique vibe and flair -- this place is special. My room was cozy, loft-style, and spacious, with one queen bed, three twins, and two bathrooms. This is absolutely the way to travel. Highly recommend.

Everyone we encountered was kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. One of our favorite touches was the shared space with board games, it felt refreshing and encouraged quality time together as a family. The whole place is beautifully designed, with a cozy "back to the basics" feel that really lets you slow down and enjoy the moment. Our room did not have a TV, which we were informed of ahead of time, and it wasn't an issue at all since we don't typically watch TV while on vacation anyway. The secure code access to enter and exit the hotel made us feel safe and comfortable throughout our stay. Overall, it was a relaxing, thoughtful, and memorable experience, and we would absolutely stay here again.

Guessing based on their breakfast that their lunch/ dinner is good... but it's hard to find good breakfast places and this is definitely one! * Highly recommend the Warrior Surprise and the Ranch Hand. *The Navajo taco with an egg anyway you want it... not only tasty but such a huge portion. Get the fresh onions and salsa on the side and you can decide how much you want if it. * The country fried steak was tender and that is some of the best gravy that comes with the Ranch Hand. Recommend opting for the fry bread for an extra 1.75... totally a treat! *Service was attentive and friendly * Dining room views of the outside was pretty. * Didn't stay at the lodge but would consider it given the pretty landscaping and access to a restaurant within walking distance... a good restaurant. *Clean restrooms *Can get busy when tour busses stop *Def will return
