The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.

We also enjoyed some frites (4.90 Euro) and some delicious Mac n Cheese (6.50 Euros). Good time and good food!

The food here is Traditional Dutch fare and is very very good, also with good service. If you want to try all the different types of mashed potatoes go for the combination of hutspot, boerenkool and zuurkoolstamppot served with a smoked sausage or a meatball. I opted for the smoked sausage and it was a perfect addition. Portion sizes are big and all that starch and meat will fill you up fast. Great Dutch Beer on tap! Get it! Fabulously tasty and refreshing. They have set menus as well. Menu 1 seems quite popular with the crowd...I overheard many people ordering it. Prices are reasonable and service is really professional. Free wifi is a bonus. Seating is very compact, so if you're fat (just being honest) probably not the most comfortable place for a real fatty person. In fact, the person behind me couldn't get out of his chair until I got up and let him out. Ttraditional Dutch fare amidst a sea of tourists...and then complain that there are too many tourists in the restaurant and you want to speak Dutch but you can't get out more than 4 words because you really don't speak Dutch. hahaha! read more

This was a traditional dutch restaurant in Amsterdam that I went to dinner for one night while visiting the city. I recommend making reservations as this place is small and can get busy. I opted for the combination menu #1 that came with Pea-soup with rye bread and smoked bacon, Combination of hutspot, boerenkoolstamppot and zuurkoolstamppot served with a meatball and Vlaflip (vanilla custard with yoghurt and fruit syrup). All of the food tasted so good! Especially the pea soup. Delicious. This meal was very filling as the hutspot are very heavy! Out of the 3 I liked the one with the carrots the best. Well, for starters the server we had was extremely unwelcoming and dismissive. When we entered, we sat down for several minutes with no offer to start with any drinks or even water. As a party of seven, four of us sat together with three of us sitting apart. When the table next to the group of three opened up we asked our server if we could move to that table so we could be with our party, he replied, "Not sure." Great food and amazing service. I'm not a good writer and don't know how to write hundreds of words in admiration of a place but I must say that it was better than expectations. My chicken on skewers was tender, and mildly flavored; the peanut sauce was too sweet. We received ketchup on request for the fries which were bland, and it also was too sweet. My husband's pork fillet was overcooked and very dry inside. It was difficult to slice with the butter knife he received. The gravy that accompanied the pork fillet was delicious, perhaps the best part of the meal. We drank tap water which tastes great here. Please read the 5-star reviews of others who did order traditional fare from the menu because I'm sure those were amazing.
