Fabulous local ice cream, and if you know me ice cream is one of my passions! We shared the Drunken Sailor, because the dessert is just so rich. Salted butter caramel ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels and potato chips. If that were not enough indulgence the whole dessert is covered in hot fudge! Thick and creamy with a great salty caramel flavor. Prices are a bit high for a small creamery but warranted in my opinion considering the obvious quality ingredients. This joint would rate 5 stars if it weren't for the limited flavor selection and absence of standards. I will be sure to return when back in town, and this place surely makes "the list". read more

I like how unique the flavors here are such as the sweet potato and the honey apple butter! That being said, the milkshakes are a bit underwhelming and I am not sure it is worth the parking hassle. Would recommend if there is not a line bur will not be going out of my way to come back. read more

My family and I had dessert recently at The Parlour, and it was great. My wife and I had the "dark" chocolate ice cream, my daughter and son in-law had vegan friendly options; chocolate and strawberries and cream. We will definitely return on future visits to Durham NC. read more

Man oh man was this ice cream delicious! I had heard all the hype about The Parlous so I was excited to finally try it out! Parking is not super fun around here so just give yourself a bit of extra time to find parking if you are meeting someone. The interior of the shop was spacious, much bigger than you normally see at ice cream shops. Some of the employees left a lot to be desired and did not seem super pumped to be working that day. I heard one employee tell someone that you were allowed three samples so I took them up on that. I tried the Pumpkin Spice latte (really did taste just like a pumpkin spice latte), their Salted Butter Caramel (since I heard this was the flavor to get), and their Pistachio Crunch (because why not!). While they were all pretty freaking delicious I decided to go with the Salted Butter Caramel and Pistachio Crunch. The Pistachio Crunch held up to it's name as there were a ton of chunks of pistachio mixed in and the Salted Butter Caramel was just freaking delicious! Super creamy and packed with flavor. I also thought the prices for this ice cream were super reasonable. I'd say it's one of the cheapest homemade ice cream shops in the Triangle, which is super surprising. This has been one of my favorite places since 2012 when it was still just a pink school bus! The salted caramel is my favorite ice cream of all time. The Vietnamese coffee a close second. I honestly don't stray much from that. The only disappointment is that the scoops used to be bigger and was not as expensive. But very happy to see the business doing so well! read more

Parlour has a great location near popular dinner and drink spots. Plus you can take your ice cream with you or stay inside with ample seating. Flavors have a wide variety including options with vegan, dairy free, nut free, etc. They are very conscientious about dietary needs. Plus all the flavors, which rotate, are fresh and high quality. Sometimes hard to choose. Pricing is fair and scoops are substantial. Waffle cones, sugar cones, bowls, and sundaes. They also have coffee and I think can make shakes. You can get pints to go for those that wish, and there are bathrooms inside for patrons. Attached photo is a waffle cone with two flavors. Cookies & cream and raspberry brownie I believe. The scoops are clearly abundant, and if your sugar cone (smaller than the waffle cone) is precariously perched then you can ask for a bowl to dump it into and eat with a spoon. Great staff and nice atmosphere. read more

Cute little ice cream shop in Durham downtown. I got the london fog (earl grey) and a milk coffee ice cream. They tasted really good! Everything was satisfying except for the attitude of the servers. They weren't very welcoming and I felt a little intimidated. Other than that, seems like they have a very unique menu and would like to go try their other ice creams too. read more

OK, so I'm obsessed with ice cream, and every time I visit a new state, I keep a bucket list of local ice cream shops to visit. So far in NC, I've been to Maple View and Yogurt Pump. Thank goodness I've found yet a third delicious ice cream store that is The Parlour. Prices are a bit steep for a scoop of ice cream (starting with around four dollars for a junior), but I can really taste the quality of the ice cream here. Real sugar + real milk means a rich creaminess without the whole stick-to-your-tongue mouthfeel that you might normally find with other cheap ice cream brands. My first time visiting here, I got one of their seasonal flavors, the blueberry pie. The blueberry didn't taste artificial at all, but rather naturally sweet. I also loved the generous hunks of graham cracker crust pieces mixed into the ice cream base. Truly a gem in Downtown Durham. Will definitely see myself coming here on a regular basis. read more

After a stellar performance at the lovely/local Carolina Theatre, we decided to cap the evening off and treat ourselves right at this fantastic ice cream parlour centrally located in the fun and chic downtown Durham district. Upon arrival, the lines extended well outside of the entrance which was quite impressive given its proximity to closing time. The line moved swiftly and after 10 minutes or so, we were able to place our orders. Opted for a 2 scoop combo of cookies & cream and sea salt caramel in a waffle cone. Sweet & creamy, thick & indulgent, this place gets it Right (with a capital R)! They're grrrrrreat! Sugary slurps and smiles all around. They have 2 large connected seating sections so there is ample seating throughout the place. People of all diverse ages, backgrounds, and ideologies converge here for good reason, and we can all agree upon, for certain, one thing, and one thing only: Love. Stopped by this place 2 nights ago. Place is fine, but not 4+ stars. I've travelled all around, so I have a lot of comparison to review from. We like the unique flavors so much we came here twice in a week! Their online ordering is easy to use and once your order is ready you can call them to let them know you're outside, for them to put it on the pickup table. The first time we got pumpkin cookies 'n cream /caramel and chai chip/dulce de leche. My favorites were the chai chip, which had a great balance between the chai base and chocolate chips, and the pumpkin cookies n' cream, which had a great pumpkin and cookie flavor! The caramel and dulce de leche were super rich and tasty too. The second time we got vietnamese coffee/pumpkin cookies n' cream and double biscoff/espresso stout cake. I could not taste the espresso that much but liked the pieces of stout cake, and the double biscoff was good, but the vietnamese coffee was our favorite of these! Great experience here with a great system set up to keep the line moving quickly! Staff was very friendly and really appreciated how they were handling their COVID protocols. I got the salted caramel and the blackberry cheesecake and I was slightly disappointed. The caramel was a bit too rich, and I was hoping the cheesecake flavor would have cheesecake ice cream rather than just cheese cake pieces. However, you can tell they have really cool and unique flavors so I'll definitely be returning - I think I may have just gotten my combo wrong the first time around! read more

I had a scoop of butter pecan last night and that creamy dreamy scoop of deliciousness cured my sugar craving and made my taste buds sing! This is a cute little ice cream shop that usually has a LONG line but the line moves fast and it's soooooo worth the wait! Also, the prices are incredible! I'm a huge fan of anything coffee and what I believe they've done pretty well is the Vietnamese coffee ice cream. It's rich, creamy, smooth, however doesn't exactly encapsulate the true essences of Vietnamese coffee. still just really good coffee ice-cream though :) Also appreciate that it wasn't cloyingly sweet. read more

Bottom line: Will I come back? If I'm in the area, definitely. Service: great service, fairly popular place, especially in the summer time so expect to wait 10-15 minutes though the line moves fast. Food: Ordered the sundae and it was really good. Honestly didn't taste much different than a chain ice cream store but I still enjoyed my experience. Would definitely try other things on the menu to get a better sense of what they have to offer if I return. Price: fair, I think I paid $5 for the sundae. read more

Great ice cream place in downtown Durham. The parking can be tricky, but if you are lucky, you can park on the street or in a near parking garage. Once you have parked, you walk into a cute ice cream parlor. On your right you will find the ice cream flavors of that day. They have tons of delicious options from scoops, sundaes, baked goods, or coffee beverages. Great place for a sweet tooth! We ordered the small brownie sundae which comes with, obviously brownies, 2 scoops of ice cream, topped with whipped cream. It was a great size for 2 people. The brownie was the perfect texture and went well with the ice cream. Usually around summer, the line is out the door. It's a convenient location for something sweet. I enjoy my time when I come here and their ice cream is always delicious. I need to try their coffee beverages one day! read more

There was a line out the door and I can see why. They offer ice cream flavors that you definitely can't get elsewhere. If you're overwhelmed with the decisions like I was, they're happy to give you samples. They had a rose flavor with pistachios that was okay but too floral for my taste. The peach pie and pineapple upside down flavors were amazing. I ended up going with the drunken sailor which consisted of the Salted Butter Caramel Ice cream, chocolate covered pretzels, potato chips and hot fudge. Adorable ice cream parlor with delicious and inventive flavors! I appreciate that they have several vegan options. Toasted coconut flavor was packed to the brim with toasted coconut. The passionfruit soft serve was creamy and flavorful. I also tried the geranium (yes, the flower!) and watermelon flavors. Both were light yet rich. A small size (can get two flavors) is about $4. They also have tea, coffee, and espresso drinks. There's a large space to hang out, but I can tell it gets busy! Definitely come here if you're in downtown Durham and in the mood for ice cream! read more

This was one of my most desired places to stop while in Durham because I had always passed it during my visits there, I wasn't disappointed at all. They had plenty options on their menu for any person to choose from. I ended up getting sorbet on a waffle cone. The ice cream was good. The parking could be a problem on busier days but overall nice ice cream shop. During this particular we waited in line. The staff was really nice + patient as I couldn't decided what I wanted. I like how they have plenty of staff to take care of multiple people at one time. read more

A super tasty ice cream spot with a long line to match. Be ready to wait at least 15-20 minutes on a Friday/weekend night. Love the simplicity of the store and the solid selection of in-house flavors. I'm just impatient and hate lines. However, given that it seems trendy to wait in long lines for great (but not ground-breaking) things, The Parlour fits right in. read more

The ice cream is LIT!!!! I will tell you this... if you're going on a weekend night (Friday/Saturday) be prepared for a wait. We went a few weekends ago and stood in line for almost 40 minutes. The line was wrapped outside and around the corner but... WHEN I TELL YOU ITS ALWAYS WORTH IT!!!!!!! I would stand in line for an hour to get this ice cream. They have a ton of flavors so there's something for everyone. Grab your ice cream from The Parlour and take a stroll downtown. Such a great experience. read more

One of the best ice cream places I've ever been to, and I'm a serious ice cream snob. The shop itself is actually pretty big with a large seating area. But, the line still snaked out the door both times I went. They have a very reasonable number of flavors, including both your "normal" flavors and your "out there" flavors. I tried the Vietnamese iced coffee and the honey chai. Both are really flavorful and tasty. I personally preferred the coffee! The prices are pretty low too! It's probably dangerous that it is only a mile from campus! read more

Fun flavors like jasmine yuzu, Vietnamese coffee, salted butter caramel, and honey lavender. I got the coconut cream pie. Zaim was so nice and let us try out a bunch of the flavors before we decided on what to get. Really great customer service. Will come back again next time I'm in Durham. read more

Was in downtown Durham with friends on a very very cold day. Decided to stop by this spot to get a little something to warm me up (I know, I know, icrecream to warm you up...read til the end lol) I ordered the affogato to share with my husband afterall icecream and espresso didn't sound all that appetizing! Boy was I wrong. We got it over the salted caramel icecream which by the way I could eat this by the gallon full! It was soooo good....and the espresso was like the cherry on top. Coffee float instead of a root beer float! I should not have bought it to share with my husband because he practically slurpped it down. I did get to enjoy enough to warm up my hands and to inspire me that my next trip here I will be going solo on my order!! :-) I only gave 4 stars because the prices are a bit steep IMO and I only tried one thing. Buttered rum - 4.25 stars My favourite flavour by far! I love alcohol in my desserts. This had a solid rum flavour! Because of the alcohol it melts fairly quickly and is ever-so-slightly icy but it's barely noticeable and is overall pretty creamy. Coquito (Puerto Rican eggnog, vegan) - 3 stars On first bite, the spices in this were divine. After a few bites though, the coconut milk was a tad too overpowering for me - but I don't usually like coconut milk. Brownie - 4 stars Still a solid brownie I might want it slightly fudgier in the centre but I'm happy. read more

So so so so yummy! Seriously delicious all around. The place is pretty big, so even with a long line it goes fast. They have crazy creative flavors and are constantly switching out new ones. The classic that I love is Vietnamese coffee mmmmm, but I also discovered a everything salty cookie mash and it was amazingggg. Prices are good, servings are massssive- seriously if u just want one big scoop just do the junior! Have to stay away from this place bc I will eat this daily! read more

This is one of our go-to places to bring out-of-town guests here (Durham pro-tip: Parlour + 21c gallery and funky bathrooms makes for a fun tour). The Parlour's flavor mainstays are delicious, and I always have fun tasting their seasonal and funkier flavors. Their staff is always so patient handing over the tasting spoons. My husband likes to add hot fudge (their's is goood) and brownie bits (Parlour pro-tip: the brownie bits cost $1, and you basically get enough to make almost a whole brownie, which costs like $3-4). If you come often, make sure you get a stamp card! read more

The Parlour began making ice cream in Durham in 2011. We got our start as an ice cream bus, serving the public and catering events around the triangle. We opened our Downtown Durham shop on historic CCB Plaza in April 2013. In addition to making our ice cream on site, we have house-made pastries, toppings, and espresso drinks.

During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)

Finally got the chance to stop by the new shop after multiple tastes from The Parlour's truck. I usually go for everything Salted Butter Caramel (in a cup, in a cone, as a shake, between 2 cookies, whatever), but when we visited the shop, I couldn't *not* get Blueberry Cheesecake. This ice cream was a perfect summer-afternoon snack, complete with fresh fruit and graham cracker. Jay tried the Blackberry, which was also amazing and he had to drag me out before I just started buying up all the pints in the fridge to take back with us to Cary. I love the truck. I love the shop. I love The Parlour. Their attention to detail and quality cannot compare with anything else locally and I will be glad to give them all my dollars, whether they're rollin' or I'm in Bull City. read more

My boyfriend and I attended CenterFest and the highlight was our stop at The Parlour. I ordered a Drunken Sailor sundae and it was awesome! I love the how the sweetness of the ice cream and fudge are complimented by the saltiness of the potato chips (yes potato chips!) and chocolate covered pretzels. The staff was extremely busy because of the festival and yet they quickly filled orders with a smile on their face. I can't wait to go back! read more
