We paid $200 for one night and it felt fair the apartment we were in. If you need modern updates like granite countertops or a lobby store with snacks, go somewhere else. The location was fantastic--right in the heart of town, with plenty of local restaurants, charming shops, and boutiques all within walking distance. We stayed in a king room with an incredibly comfortable bed and a cute little courtyard just outside our room, which was such a nice touch. The room had everything we needed, including fresh-ground coffee to brew--not the typical packaged hotel coffee--which we really appreciated. And the complimentary breakfast was amazing! Fresh-made omelets with real eggs and your choice of delicious ingredients like bacon and fresh vegetables, along with an impressive selection of fresh fruit including bananas, kiwi, and grapefruit. There were also plenty of breads, oats, cereals, and other breakfast choices. We were only able to stay for one night, but we honestly wished we could have stayed longer. The Courtyard Suites was comfortable, welcoming, conveniently located, and exceeded our expectations. If you find yourself visiting Grass Valley, I would absolutely recommend making Courtyard Suites your place to stay. We certainly will on our next visit!

I've stayed at the lodge 3 times so far and look forward to the tranquility everytime. It's a hidden gem in Grass Valley right off Highway 49 (2-3 hours drive from the bay area). It's very close to several great spots on the Yuba river where you can spend the day swimming and bathing in the sun. The lodge is great for large groups, has three very nice bedrooms in the main building, another one attached to the yoga studio (which is just steps away), and a HUGE attic area upstairs that spans the whole length of the house and has something like eight beds up there. There's a great big commercial size kitchen so prep, cooking, and cleaning is quite easy. The main room is open concept with an expansive dining table, a large living room area, and an old fashion salon style bar. Relaxation is the key to this place! There is no TV; only the sounds of joyous laughter when you sit around the living room sharing stories or out in the back patio area surrounded by nature and a small babbling brook. Beyond the herb/vegetable garden is a chicken coup and a fun kick it spot where we usually roast marshmallows at night. Just past that is a large pavillion to make the occasion a little more formal. The owners, Trish & Mark have really created a wonderful and unique slice of paradise.

We had contacted them ahead of time about a late check-in, and when we arrived, they had already made our keys and left them under the mat for us, which was convenient. They were extremely nice and friendly! Our room was all the way at the bottom of a rickety little boardwalk and down some old, shaky stairs. Which is okay, but made me wonder how the rooms were as clearly there had been no maintenance done on the outside of this lodge... As we walked down, we noticed that pretty much everyone had their windows open, and we could see directly into their rooms with people lying on their beds. Once we got into our room, we understood why...it was around 100 degrees inside! There was no air conditioning, just two fans running at full speed with the window open, and it was still unbearably hot. We could barely tolerate it. The carpet throughout the room was extremely sticky, to the point that I wouldn't even take my shoes off. The shower in the morning also wasn't very clean and was generally pretty gross...wore my flip flops in... I think this place could actually be decent with a few improvements. Replacing the old, sticky carpet with hardwood or another easy-to-clean flooring, giving the rooms a thorough cleaning, and adding air conditioning or even a mini-split...would make a huge difference. Unfortunately, as it is now, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

However, I give the venue only two stars because: 1) the owners promised a lot of things up front that they never followed through with. 2) the bathroom option for guests is port o potties 3) the owners made us turn the music down at 10pm despite their previous claim that we could keep the party going as late as we wanted 4) the male owner was overheard screaming at the female owner about how terrible we all were in not very appropriate language. He also said he had been turning the power off on us all night and was frustrated that we kept fixing it (we thought we blew a fuse so we plugged the equipment in somewhere else) 5) they did not clean up the barn the day of the wedding, so there were owl droppings all over the dance floor 6) they have dogs so make sure your guests watch for dog poop on the property. Also, ask them to keep them inside during the ceremony or they are likely to come visit the guests and possibly walk the bride down the aisle. Friendly dogs though, and very cute I must say. Overall, the wedding was beautiful. But I know my friend was disappointed and stressed out by the venue and that is not okay on your wedding day!

We found so many birds - woke up to a singing Bullock's oriole; Pied-billed grebes and Wood ducks were calling and setting up their nests; an osprey, kingfishers, and herons were regular visitors. Breakfasts Saturday and Sunday mornings were also wonderful. Stephanie is a great host and made good recommendations for activities and dinner Saturday night. The building overlooks their pond, which is a draw for local wildlife and birds. We saw beaver, red-winged blackbirds, Canada geese, deer, and various raptors. Highly-recommended!
