A perfect first stop on our road trip. Atmosphere - Warm, welcoming, accommodating. Food was freshly prepared and delicious! The best Guinness cheese sauce I've ever eaten and the gravy for the bangers & mash was on point. Shepherds pie meat tender & nicely seasoned. Mr. Brett behind the bar is a gem who is love of beer is literally on display with his clever wall arrangement of the Parson's offerings that acts as their beer menu. Will gladly find reasons to visit this area again just so we can stop in.

Yikes. We ordered the fish and chips. The fish coating had parts of it that were burnt while the fish itself was a little mushy. The chips weren't any better. Everything on the plate tasted like it went through an oven and not a fryer. It was all just weird. Also $2.50 charge for extra tartar sauce? Y'all this was just sad. Literally the one thing that an Irish pub should be able to put out of the kitchen mostly flawlessly.

The English Whipped Pudding, wow. I'm so glad we decided to get dessert after our French Onion soup because that is my new favorite. It's full of different creams, pudding, and sugar with two Walker's shortbread cookies on the side. Definitely a once in a while decadent treat! The portion sizes are impressive and everything was yummy. You would not be disappointed if you came here to celebrate with a beer and dessert. The waitress we had was lovely.

Soup of the day, Broccoli & Cheese

This place is GREAT! A real authentic Irish bar, here in Murphy, NC. The place is small and located in the downtown area. I started off with the Broccoli and Cheese soup, which was their soup of the day. Served piping hot in a small bowl with either bread or crackers. I chose the bread. When the soup arrived I then placed my entree order, the Shepherds pie. While I took my 3rd spoon full of soup, my entree arrived. I was shocked it came out so fast, especially when I just started with my soup. The server said yes, it does come out fast. I wish I would have known that ahead of time or very least, she should have not placed the order till she saw I was almost done with my soup. This is the only reason I didn't give this place a 5-star rating. However, the pie was great. Even though the side of Broccoli was luke warm now, due to what I mentioned above, it was still tasty. And since the pie is covered with a layer of mash potatoes, it was still very hot. A great texture of meat sauce and veggies. I will definitely be back here next time I am in the Murphy area. Just won't order my entree UNTIL I'm almost done with my soup.

We enjoyed a nice dinner here last week after a busy day of touring the area. I really enjoyed the grilled Reuben with a side of steamed broccoli (subbed for the usual fries), while my boyfriend enjoyed his dish (I forget what!) as well. The service was friendly and prompt.

This time we came after hiking all day and sat outside with our dogs. Ambiance-touristy Irish pub. It's a big place that still tries to be Irish-ish. They fail but it's a worthwhile effort and people seem to like it. One issue with the design-it's a huge place but they have 2-single person bathrooms-one next to the bar and one on the second floor. I don't even understand how you get a building permit with that occupancy and so few bathrooms. My wife and I each got a burger, sub veggie patty. They are getting 2 stars for the fact they don't upcharge for the vegan patty. Everyone upcharges for a veggie burger, so this is an impressive give-a-way to customers. However, I added mushrooms and roasted red peppers, which added $2 each, and gluten free sandwich bread, which was a $5 upcharge. First, those veggies should not be a $2 upcharge each. That's obnoxious. Your menu burgers have toppings and are cheaper than a plain burger with 2 veggies. But, I am not taking stars away for the upcharge. I saw them, I accepted them. My problem is that with those changes, this was a $25 burger at an Irish pub in north GA and it tasted like a $5 burger from an Irish pub in north GA. It was dry, unseasoned, and very bland. You charged me $5 for 2 slices of bread from a loaf that costs $7.99 retail. A red pepper is $0.75 cents, maybe, retail, and for a couple teaspoons you charged me $2. Who knows what mushrooms cost, but the point is, for two toppings and sub 2 slices of sandwich bread, you charged me for a high-end steakhouse burger and served me a terrible backyard grill burger. On top of that, I ordered a whiskey (knob creek) on the rocks. On my check was a $2 rocks charge. So...you charged me $2 for ice? It makes no sense. It's the same amount of liquor. When I asked the server about it, she said because they pour an extra 2 ounces in. Obviously she lied because she had no clue what she was talking about. First, why would adding ice equal and extra 2 ounces? Maybe if I asked for an up martini or something, but I am adding volume, so why would you also add liquor? Second, my whiskey was $13 and a restaurant shot is 1, maybe 1.5 ounces. Do you really mean to tell me you gave me an extra 2 shots, maybe an extra 1.33 shots of a $13 liquor for $2 only because I asked for ice? I'm not an idiot. So, poor food, lying service, and unreasonable upcharges. I'm not coming back

Knowing we were going up to the arts district, I looked for a place to meet them before the circle and saw there was a Celtic Pub. Only that was the spot where the drum circle was. And, to my surprise, it is the same owner as the Fox & Parrot Tavern in Gatlinburg, one of my favorite English pubs (and currently closed do to a feud with the US government - hope that gets fixed). The place is definitely British country feeling. Very nice tap list, including both local brews and standard UK brews. Heavy wood feeling with a very nice deck outside, which includes some spots under cover (which was important as it rained on the circle and people had to duck in). There is nothing elegant about the place or the food. But that is its charm. The fish & chips were on point, esp. with the malt vinegar. Shepherd's Pie a bit salty for my tastes, but not to the salt lick level. Also came with chips. As for the drum circle, if you are reading this in June 2026, that is every Monday at 6-8 PM through the end of the month. I got some great drone footage of the circle, which I added to this review.

I would never come here if I was in a hurry, but if you have 2+ hours to eat and want good food in a storied place with staff who will treat you like friends, you're going to love the Rampant Lion. NOTES: -In rural TN, it should not surprise you, but be aware that they have Trump displays in the restaurant. -The restrooms are single stall and accessed from outdoor. They're indoor restrooms - just the door to access them is on the outside. (No porta potties) They're solidly clean - just make sure to pack clothing that works for the temperature outside because you might be dipping outside a few times. -Parking lot is small and gravel. Relatively easy to get in and out of though. -Amazing gin selection with staff that *clearly* knows their gins. -Adorable photos of the owners on slideshow of their trip to Europe on the wall. It's adorably and clearly a couple who was on a good vacation. We've had a good chunk of their menu at this point. Pretzels: Delicious beer chese AND delicious pretzels. Quite a bit of food with this too. Bread, Oil, & Vinegar: Wasn't super fond of this one. A ton of oil in a bowl made it hard to get the right oil-to-vinegar ratio. Chicken Pie: Deliciously breaded with super-tasty french fries too. Served piping hot, so it took a bit to be able to eat it without burning myself but a wait well-made. Reuben: Partner absolutely loved it and said the bread was the absolute perfect consistency. SO much meat in there too (though he said it could use a bit of extra dressing). Bubbles and Squeak: Delicious. Just delicious. Zero notes, you should eat it. Beanie Weenies: Home-made right in the restaurant! My favorite thing on the menu. Super savory, semi-healthy (beans...at least?), and served super warm. Comfort food at its finest. Menu in-restaurant was different than online one on a few things.

The delicious Hollandaise Sauce kept me begging for more. The others in our group ordered the brunch meatloaf. The meat portion was huge, approximately 6" long by 4" wide by about 1 1/2" to 2" thick. It was served over a bed of mashed potatoes with a side of green beans. We shared an order of lava cake. Arriving with whipped cream & a scoop of vanilla ice cream all were greatly satisfied. The only negative is because the floors are wood, and not carpet, the acoustics are quite "echoey". Plus we arrived at the height of the Sunday brunch crowd. Therefore, this made it a challenge for our 93 year old friend with hearing aids to understand the conversation. The restaurant is a big hall with no booths. The chairs are comfortable. Our server Josh was great to make recommendations. Food was delivered hot. After eating I wandered out to a large outdoor patio. On Saturday nights there is often live music. You'll…read moreavoid a lot of the tourist traffic here with its unique vibe, and you'll come away with a memory of "that cute British pub" when it's all over. NOTES: -This place is run on bare bones staff. I'd guess maybe two cooks and the single server. It is not a place to come if you need quick service or quick food. They're very friendly (even if you're not a local!), but definitely come when you have a lot of extra time. -This place is not accessible in the slightest. You'll need to go up two flights of very steep stairs to make it to the front door. The stairs are on the old side, and I was concerned about one breaking. There is no elevator. -The parking lot is relatively small and shared with a nearby Urgent Care. It's gravel and grass, and people mostly made their "own" spot where they wanted. As this made for a haphazard parking lot with small margins for cars, I wouldn't let a newer driver park here. PROS: -Lots of unique British dishes. We've never seen somewhere serving Bubbles and Squeak and lots of other dishes. If you're not familiar with niche British dishes, you'll probably have to pull out your cell phone to figure out what some of this stuff is - and that's really fun. -Food is really good. It tastes like food-your-mom-would-make instead of gourmet takes on these dishes. It has a really authentic, small business vibe to it. -Unique beers on tap too. You aren't going to find Bud Light or Miller Lite on tap here. All of their beers are unique pub fare. They do offer some of the American favorites in a can/bottle, but this is a great excuse to try beers you wouldn't normally have access too. -Despite the older age of the building, the bathrooms are very modern and very clean. Most gas station bathrooms are in worse shape than the ones here. CONS: -It's definitely a small, "small margins" business, and all of the cons that go along with that. Food took awhile, upcharge for using a credit card, non-focal dishes may have been frozen/reheated/canned, and parking was difficult. That all being said, we're looking to come back again, and the atmosphere (and the taste of their unique star dishes) make it one of those places you'll actually talk about when you're done with your trip instead of forgetting that morning you simply went to Denny's to scarf down pancakes.
