Of all the places we ate in Blue Ridge, this one is by far the best. Everything was absolutely delicious. People were loving their dish and still wishing they had something someone else had. We did get the ribs with regular BBQ sauce because we didn't like the flavor of that house sauce but the ribs themselves cooked to perfection. They were even delicious plain. Worth the wait, but arrive early if you can. I ordered the Yeti + cheddar cheese and a side of gravy. Always get the gravy.. it's the best I've had. The portions are very generous. The Dogwood has great potential, but consistency is a big issue. We've visited a few times, and the flow of the place just doesn't seem to work. One visit, the service was backed up but the food was amazing; another time, the food missed the mark, but the service was flawless. This place exceeded my expectations!! Haven't been to Bigfoot Biscuits, which is their morning service, but the Dogwood is super good. We got the pretzel bites and beer cheese which is DELISH and my husband is picky about his beer cheese and loved it! He got a smash burger and fries he enjoyed, and I got the candied pimento cheese dip with naan app as a meal. It was a great portion and so good!!! We came at a time it wasn't super packed and it was a relaxing experience with our very kind server. We can't wait to come back and try Bigfoot Biscuits! read more

It was a Wednesday night around 7pm and it was dead. We were the only customers and we had the best service! Katie was our server and she was super friendly, had great conversations, filled us in on the best places to go, and our food was DELISH. We got pork potstickers to start and they were good. The drinks were okay. The burgers were where it's at though!!! I got the Big Sexy with tots and my husband got the Hangover burger with sweet potato fries. The place is small and intimate. Cool spot- very nice if you're in this area. The service was a bit slow (but isn't everyone these days?). I got the salad with added fried chicken. I didn't love the fried chicken- it was kind gritty and had lots of grizzle in it. I also asked it to be extra crispy (and it was not, but I just sucked it up). Our server was really sweet, but again kinda distant and not present much. They did get super busy as we were there, so that probably explains that. Would have had a higher review but the service at this restaurant was close to nonexistent. While having no server as it is an "order at the counter" restaurant, it seems as if that doesn't really help with the wait for food at all. I had ordered "The Sasquatch" which comes with a sunny side up egg, to which the cooks don't seem to understand that the whites of the eggs must be FULLY cooked in order to be food safe. After waiting over an hour for our food, having to complain to get any sort of notion of when the food was coming out and being met with a rude look, multiple eggs came undercooked. We had waited so long, that we just ate what we could and left. If you go here, please make sure to bring a movie or a book, you're gonna be sitting down for a while before you get any food. read more

Coming here was a huge mistake. I chose this spot after seeing decent reviews and because I had been craving ribs during my trip to Georgia. Our server was honest and mentioned the ribs were the second-best item on the menu, so I ordered them. The appetizers arrived within about 15 minutes, but our entrées didn't come out for another 40 minutes. We were very hungry, so when the food arrived, I tried to make the best of it. Unfortunately, the ribs were nothing like the photos online. They were drenched in an extremely thick, jam-like sugary sauce that pooled on the plate. There was so much sauce that I used my burger bun and napkins just to wipe it off, and I even had to step into the restroom mid-meal to wash my hands because it was so excessive. The fries and tater tots were also overly salted. As someone who comes from a luxury hospitality background, I really didn't want to complain. But as I continued eating, I started getting a stomach ache. I left two pieces uneaten and politely let the server know there was an issue. He apologized and admitted there was too much sauce and that the dish came out wrong. When I asked if it could be removed from the bill, I was told it couldn't be because I had eaten most of it. I asked to speak with a manager and was told she was home and would not allow the comp. Despite acknowledging the mistake, nothing was done to make it right. We all left most of our food. The long wait combined with food that missed the mark made for a disappointing experience. We considered waiting for Chester's just three minutes away (which had a 40-minute wait), and honestly, it probably would have been worth it since we waited nearly that long for food here anyway. My family and I were trying to grab dinner in downtown Blue Ridge and we're recommended this spot since a lot of other places were super crowded! It's a little ways off the main street of downtown Blue Ridge, but in that way, it was less busy and you could find parking pretty easily. You can just seat yourself in the front porch, inside (they had live music when we went so inside was pretty loud), or in the beer garden out back where we sat. As a brewery, this place was pretty cool! They had a limited amount of beer on tap, but the really interesting part was their beer garage! You can just walk into it, pick out a can and just let your server know! Foodwise, it felt like a pretty limited menu (especially for family dietary restrictions) but what we did order was pretty good! I had the Dogwood Hangover burger which was so juicy and the over easy egg was done really well. We also had the ribs which fell off the bone, fish and chips, tacos, wings, and were able to get chicken tenders made as well, all of which were good. Stupendous patio and wonderful service! We had a midsize party of 7 which included 3 children. We were seated immediately once they reopened from breakfast hours which was 2pm. Our server was great at being attentive to our needs and waiting for us to settle in and make our selections from the menu. The menu is small and includes some around the way, typical bar food like options and also has some options with cultural flair and inspiration. As an app we ordered spinach dip. It was fair. Pita style chips were served to dip. My sister in law ordered the Birria tacos. She said they did not taste like authentic Birria tacos but she did like that they were inspired by them. The fish sandwich was almost too pretty to eat. The kitchen did a great job plating the meals. The fish sandwich itself was fried pollock fish and came with a cole slaw mixture on top. The sandwich and tots were almost luke warm as if they had been waited for a while before they came out to the table. The fish sandwich was more on the plain side. Not a lot of seasoning or flavor which made it seem like it was missing that special something. There was a kids menu but you have to ask for it. The kids items were not listed on the restaurant menu we received at the table. I would go back for a drink on the patio. Easy walk from the downtown park. Well, I'm sitting in the restaurant at the moment I'm writing this. The food appears to be good, I see plates sitting ready for pick up but the staff seem new and oblivious to the task at hand. It seems if you're an adult old or young and have been to a restaurant (good or bad) you'd have an idea of what type of service you should provide. Just had my food and enjoyed mine, my wife's was although good from a cooked and taste perspectives was not correct. They need a kitchen/server manager to check the food if they don't have a knowledgeable or competent wait staff. I would come back with the hope of improvements. read more

The biscuit sandwiches from Bigfoot Biscuits are delicious and the service is friendly. The prices are worth it because the portions are huge! Be prepared to wait in line and wait a bit longer for your order to be ready; we came on a Sunday at 10am and were eating by 10:45 but I think the wait was worth it because everything came out fresh. The seating is first come first serve, we came with a party of 11 and sat in the back patio. We had to move some tables around and get rid of empty plates as the servers hadn't had the chance to get to it (there were only 2 staffed, they're troopers!) THE BEST BURGER WE HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. We found this little spot off the beaten path of downtown Blue Ridge after we had a wonderful time pedaling on the freedom rail bike trail. Wow. Service was friendly and fast, and the food was OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. We did the smash burger (11/10), the hangover burger (also amazing) and a rack of ribs. The smash burger is a MUST TRY. They have a cool atmosphere with a beer garden out back, but our favorite part of this eclectic little spot was the "beer garage" where you can venture back yourself and pick from a wide selection of fun beers to try. We, of course, also had to leave with some Hangout merch! They are dog friendly and just overall awesome!! read more

After hiking & tubing a group of us decided to give a local restaurant a try. They accommodated our group of 25 in their "biergarten" (aka the back patio). With a group that size we recognize it can be a challenge especially with separate checks so, we were sure to order in order of family and stay seated where we were when we ordered to avoid confusion. Most of us ordered burgers with a handful ordering steak or pork chops. The orders began to come out in 2's in 10-15 intervals. By the time the next set of orders came out, the prior was practically done eating. Needless to say it took about an hour for everyone to get their food after the first one came out... all except for one burger order that just never came out (the mgr. comp'd & packed it to go). All would be forgiven had the food been delicious. Sadly... my tater tots (no reg fries offered) were cool & soggy though others said theirs were warm and crispy. My husband's medium well ribeye (I know! :/ ) was medium at best despite asking very nicely to cook warmer. No one raved about their dish. Summary of an attempt at a fair review: Bigfoot Positives: good Old Fashioned, accommodated a large group quickly, friendly service. Cons: slow service & inconsistent food. read more
