It's Friday night date night, and we have a rule with the couple we go out with that we must go to a restaurant that neither couple had been to before. So it was their pick, and they selected Roots. The minute we pulled up we recognized the place we used to go to for art auctions. When we walked in a young man greeted us and took us to a table for four. We asked when they opened up and he said this past July. Tough time to open a restaurant for sure! Our server's name was Erika and she was an absolute delight. Kept our water glasses full, the drinks coming, and paced appetizers and dinner perfectly. Each one of us ordered something different, and each one of us were very pleased with our meal. We closed out dinner service with rhubarb pie and bread pudding, which were also delicious. My wife and I will definitely go back for dinner on some night other than Friday, because of the date night rule. read more

I am vegan and heard good things about this place so thought I should try it. I ordered a vegan quesadilla and was given a cheese quesadilla, I should have checked before taking a bite but since being vegan I haven't been burned. They gave me real cheese. (Keep in mind they have a whole separate vegan menu so I didn't think this would EVER be an issue.) when I brought it to the attention of my server (who I think was the owner) he tried to tell me I ordered a regular quesadilla... after I had just ordered a vegan app and ate it prior. That's what really annoyed me. I also had to repeat my order to him twice and he somehow still messed it up. My friends order was also messed up but she was too polite to say anything. If those were the only problems that would be fine, but the portion sizes were TINY (coming from a 105lb female) and extremely overpriced. I've driven past the sign for this place many times and finally we gave it a try. There were 8 of us. The food is brought out whenever something is ready. So one person got their food then 10 minutes later another got theirs. No rhyme or reason in getting food sent out. Eventually I was the only one who didn't receive my plate. JJ our waiter was really good. He kept checking on us and made sure I finally got my plate and comped it. We split checks into 3 and each one of us had to pay $22 for a Sustainability Fee. They got $66 from us total instead of $22. So don't split checks!!! JJ Our waiter told us not to leave a tip since the $22 was on our check. That's not fair to him. Raise prices and hide that fee in it. They did point it out to us as we were sitting down. The food was ok. Nothing special. My biggest issue with the food is that just about everything has spicy heat. I am sensitive to heat in food. I couldn't even eat the potato chips, humus or the sweet potato fries And absolutely nothing on the Asian menu. My beef Gyro had jalapeño in it! Ive never had jalapeño in any gyro before this. I asked if i could get the humus without heat. No couldn't get it that way. The potato chips surprised me. Anyway I doubt we'll be back. Too expensive for what you get and I left hungry And with a sore tongue. The sustainability fee is ridiculous. We've been to several restaurants since Covid and they are not charging this or at least it isn't a separate charge. Roots quit ripping off your servers! I'm sure they don't get tips very often. What a huge disappointment...... we were so excited to try this place and unfortunately we won't go again. The service was subpar at best, it was chilly - we sat inside by the way. The food was less than average. We had 4 people and 2 of us ordered Manhattan's. The ice cube took up most of the glass and there was less than an inch of alcohol. The food is nothing to brag about. OMG We shared the charcutiere board and 2 bang mi sliders, water, one beer and bread pudding for dessert. The charcutiere board was definitely for an individual and the slider was dry, it wasn't sliding any where. The bread pudding was very good. The price tag with mandatory 22% sustainability fee... $62! We left still hungry! The service was good and we did eat outside, which was nice. I do like to support local restaurants but we won't be going back here. read more

Lovely venue - our table was by the row of windows looking SW so we were able to watch the sunset. Cocktails were awesome - mine was the blood orange margarita & my husband ordered 2 (he rarely orders a 2nd drink!) of the pineapple jalapeño margarita. Each small plate we chose was extraordinary - except possibly the Parmesan Truffle fries. Don't get me wrong - they were delicious!!- but not amazingly different from any well made fry. I have celiac disease so eating out can be challenging & sometimes disappointing. Not so here, there were many choices (except in the Southern Comfort section, but hey - it's southern food - not a lot can be done to make it gluten free!). In a nutshell: wonderful venue, great staff, amazing food - you just can't go wrong here! read more

What a gem!! We were so pleasantly surprised to discover this treasure of a restaurant venue during these difficult Covid times. The outdoor possibilities include dining in either private heated igloos or the open-air heated gazebo. The food was amazing: I particularly loved the Tuna Poke Cup appetizer, it was the bomb, and I'm quite picky about my Poke!! The Tropical Salad was delicious and delightful - one of the best salads I've had in a long time. There were gluten-free and dairy-free options. The menu/food was unique and wonderful. JJ was our server. While he was young, he did an outstanding job. The location is part of a church. While it may seem odd you are walking into an event space at a church, don't let this stop you. It is unique and they do a great job of spacing out the tables. We went for the first time with friends. The food was good and they have live music (though so loud we couldn't hold a conversation). The kicker is the "22% sustainability fee" they charge on everything. This doesn't really include the tip. We asked our server what this did cover, and she seemed to not really know. That's insane. We've seen many restaurants add 3% for back of the house staff, OK get it, but 22%???? I saw it on the menu, but thought it was 2.2% (fancy script writing) which would be in line with other restaurants. When you add the tax plus any sort of tip, the bill becomes crazy high for what you got. Why not just raise the prices of the food and drinks? At least make sure the servers know exactly what it's for and can explain. We had 3 small tapas (as in a few bites) and 2 drinks and our bill was over $100. Also, my drink was diluted with all the ice melted so they weren't using cold ingredients of shaking it prior to putting it in a glass. The food was good, but we probably won't be back. read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant. The staff are amazing, the setting--especially the outside seating area (where they allow dogs) is great. My partner and I ate there once and really liked the setting, so decided to come back with my two children. Unfortunately, a dinner for the four of us ended up coming out to $100. Three of the tapas we received (including both orders of bison sliders) came out cold, and the food wasn't that great or filling. My 10 year old left hungry and asked me to make her food when we got home, which was infuriating after such an expensive meal. My older child said it best, "they are trying to be too gourmet". read more

I have to say this was a huge disappointment. The place was empty when we went on a Saturday night. Kathy S was nice, but totally inexperienced. She brings our appetizer and announces she will bring side plates. Why couldn't she bring them with the food? She never told us the special. I got the pork and it was very good except cauliflower was cold. My husband got the chicken. He asked if they could leave the jalapeños out of the salsa. She said we "will make you a special salsa with mango and pineapple."Then she forgot it. When he brought it up they brought a mango sauce that later showed up on my desert. Most of his dinner was cold. Small portions. The owner had no idea what was on his own menu. We ordered deserts and she totally forgot mine. The place was freezing cold and they left the front door wide open even after we told them it was cold, so we had to wear our coats to eat in :( We were the only ones dining inside, yet they gave us the smallest table! They could use some proper chairs instead of cheap fold up ones. White linen table cloths would be a nice. Then Kathy S brought us a very confusing bill which we paid on her personal cell 'phone. So weird. She also stood over us while we figured out the tip which is totally unprofessional. I'm not sure why this place has so many good reviews. This was an awful, expensive experience. Unless they change something, they won't last. Place was empty for a reason. Foolishly, we went back the next day to give them a second chance (for brunch ) and it was the same thing :( Toast was warm bread without butter, server forgot items, most of the food was cold, owners made excuse after excuse regarding why things were the way they were! Bathroom had a huge roll of industrial toilet paper sat on the floor which was so tacky! One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants offer you a free $5 desert to make up for a bad $25 meal, so we said no thank you and they brought it anyway . They just don't get it. read more

So, first of all, there is a automatic 22% fee tacked onto your bill for " sustainable practices and staff maintenance", that's fine but the waitress still then presents you with an option to tip. I'm a former server and bar tender and tip rather extravagantly but this is a little crazy. Secondly for an $81 dollar tab we got truffle fries, which must just be drizzled with truffle oil as there were absolutely no truffle shavings on the fries. Two 5" yakatori skewers, three bite sized pieces of chicken on each skewer with onion, peppers and a drizzle of sauce, two lamb skewers with the most poorly trimmed pieces of lamb I have ever been served. I eat lamb and have purchased lamb from producers directly and I realize that it can be a tougher meat, but this was apparently cubed without trimming, which is unacceptable for a professional cook or chef. My wife also had a tea saucer sized beet salad and we had two cocktails. My old fashioned was made with knob creek and my wife had a well margarita, both drinks where quite good, so that's something. We eat at higher end restaurants semi regularly but will never return to or recommend this place, bummer. read more

We made reservations at Roots for Christmas Eve because we had eaten there last year for the holiday and enjoyed the tapas style meal very much. Unfortunately, this time around was absolutely awful. We arrived at 4:30 (the time of our reservation) and only received our entree at about 6:00pm and the restaurant was not busy. The entree in the fixed price holiday menu was Cornish hen, and after a long wait for it, both mine and my husband's came out completely raw on the inside. The wait staff did not bother to come back after delivering the food to check if all was well, so after about 10 mins of trying to make eye contact to flag someone down my husband had to get up and go ask the hostess to address the situation. When I say raw, I mean completely raw, not just a little pink. They took them back to the kitchen and cooked them longer, but meanwhile felt it was appropriate to bring out our warm desserts? Once the entrees came back out we had to rush to eat them due to other plans we had to attend, the meat was dry because of the re-heating, and even when I asked for a side of more sauce, it took another 10+ mins and we were ready to leave at that point. Then to add insult to injury, they did absolutely nothing to make the situation right- no comps, no discount, we paid full price for a very expensive holiday meal that we didn't even get to enjoy. I mean come on..raw poultry, never in my life have I been served raw poultry at a restaurant, as that's a huge culinary sin and then to have it swept under the rug like nothing happened made it that much worse. This restaurant was a pleasure. Because we live in Boulder we practically never leave the Boulder Bubble for anything; but I am so very glad that we did! Both the meal and the outdoor ambiance was absolutely wonderful. The unique and varied flavors used for each dish were both inspiring and memorable. To top it off the service was exceptional. Had planned a Valentine's Day brunch and ordered the Valentine's package (champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and rose petals for $30 while booking) and originally planned to be in an igloo but it was WAY too cold (not their fault in any way and not part of the review). They were pleasant people and great communicators prior to our arrival to make sure we were comfortable. When we arrived, I thought they would have set up the Valentine's package on the table like it was described but we needed to ask for it which is fine. They bring out a box with everything in it which was kinda disappointing so we saved it to bring home with us. Drinks were great! Food was okay. We came for a pre Saturday Mother's Day dinner at it seemed they were unexpectedly busy and we're understaffed. We waited 30 minutes just to order dinner after being seated. We had high expectations for the food, but my wife's salmon had many bones in it making it basically inedible and my fish and chips had just 3 small pieces of fish - more like fish strips. A manager came by to ask how things were and I communicated the issues and she apologized, and asked if she wanted another entre and when she said no thanks, she literally walked off without saying a word. We tried to wait for desert, but service was so bad, decided to pass. We paid quite a bit for our meals and will not be back. Wanted a special dinner, but as disappointed. read more

WOW! I recently dined at Roots and we had an amazing experience. We were seated at the beautiful outdoor heated Veranda. The food was delicious, arrived at a timely manner, the service was exceptional and the ambiance and decor was outstanding. Food was good but one of the item on the menu was incorrect. No attempt was made to correct the issue. The Greek salad comes with feta cheese according to their menu. The server said they are serving vegan mozzarella cheese for all salads so people won't be confused that feta is not vegan. What?!! read more

Amazing!! I went and had the beef gyro, the new chef special right now, and it was delicious. The tzatziki sauce was very flavorful and the meat was seasoned perfectly. I also tried the bread pudding, and it is to die for! I WILL be going back for more! The owners are so kind, and they bring a personal touch to your experience. We had an awesome breakfast at Roots this morning and I can't wait to go back! My wife and I tried Traditional Indian dishes and absolutely loved them. I couldn't decide which meal to choose so I left it up to the chef to decide. I could not have been happier with her choice. She also came out to check and see if I was happy with her choice. It was wonderful to meet her. Our daughter & her husband choose omelets and also thought the food was fantastic. We felt completely comfortable & "social distance " safe in the outdoor dining garden. The service was extremely friendly and exceptionally professional. I highly recommend Roots to anyone looking for a great meal in a beautiful setting! read more

We have had much better meals and service for a lot less elsewhere. We had our reservation at 5:30 pm and had the food pre-ordered as it said to do on the website. Our appetizers came in a timely manner but our dinner did not arrive until past 7 pm. We were celebrating the birthday and had stated so on the website but no acknowledgment of that either. We had expected a manager to talk to us about the mishap with the order but no sign of him/her. Instead, our poor waiter kept apologizing to us multiple times and gave us some cupcakes to go. We had enjoyed the Thanksgiving meals so much, and had takeout after that from the regular menu, we knew we couldn't miss their latest holiday options. It is so difficult to find a place that has both regular and Vegan options on the menu (beyond the obligatory veggie burger). The vegan options at Roots are simply the best! So creative, so much flavor. The non-vegans in the household enjoyed the vegan holiday meal too! But they also have enjoyed other entrees from the regular menu. Five of us dined at Roots in early March to celebrate going out for the 1st time in a year. We were introduced to our waiter who promptly told us it was his 1st evening on the job. The waiter was wearing a thin, single layer, gator-type mask. We could see his lips moving. Menus became the 1st problem. We were brought QR codes to scan with our phones to get the menu. None of us could get it to work, so we googled the menu on our phones. Soon, 2 laminated menus arrived. We passed the menus around and decided what to order. I was glad I had seen the menu at home. The others hadn't. Our waiter took our drink orders and encouraged 2 people to try jalapeno margaritas. Two of us ordered red wine. One diner took a sip of the margarita and said she couldn't drink it and ordered a martini, which was mediocre, at best. Granted, this diner makes a fantastic martini. This same person then ordered a glass of white wine and passed her margarita down the table to the other person. That drink was never consumed. As for food, I ordered the caramel coffee pork loin with turmeric cauliflower. I expected the meat to be cut from a tender, juicy, pork loin roast as the photo on Yelp shows. It was a very well done, bone dry, pork chop beside 2 thick slices of potato and some very overcooked cauliflower. I ordered the samosas for an appetizer, shared them & they were the best part of the meal. My Cabernet Sauvignon house wine, was excellent. The person across from me ordered Salmon Salmoniglio. She said she thought it and the green beans beside it had all been previously frozen. The salmon was overcooked and dry but she ate it because she didn't want to wait for a substitute. Two diners ordered the Cultural dinners for $40 each. Included was a piece of pork cooked in Guinness, some potato leek soup, tiny baked potato appetizers, and colcannon, which is potatoes & cabbage. The Cultural meal included 3 potato dishes! The 5th person ordered the ribeye steak. She was at the other end of the table so I don't know particulars but she said she has had better ribeye steaks. There was much confusion getting our food. The 2 Cultural meals dominated the waiter's attention, thereby causing him to neglect to ask the rest of us if we wanted appetizers, desserts etc because those were included with the cultural meals. I feel that giving him the 5 of us for his first table was a mistake. The person who greeted us and introduced the waiter promptly disappeared and only returned if we had questions about the menu. For instance, we asked about a sauce. The waiter had no idea what it was and had to call the one in charge. No one ever returned to ask us how our food was. No one came to refill our water glasses until we had our big cup of very weak watered down decaf coffee at the end of the meal. When he brought the checks, no one ever asked if we enjoyed our dinner. We would have told him that 4 of the meals were dry and over cooked. I'm not sure what the steak was lacking. In my opinion, the best part of the meal were the 4 glasses of wine and the 2 samosas. There was nothing special about any of the food. The potato leek soup was our 1st clue. It was bland, according to those who ordered it. Now let me mention the ambiance. Clearly the tables were far apart because of the pandemic, which is appreciated. But we were pushed up against the front windows with very little space between the table and the windows, which made it chilly & tight. We could have used 6 more inches. A bright light outside kept flickering on and off like a spotlight. The inside of the restaurant couldn't have been more that 65 degrees. Sitting by the windows was cold. There are nice chandeliers but nowhere near our table. There was a wall at one end of our table that could have used a light on it. We had one tiny metallic glass that held a very dim, fake, tealight. I'm not sure if there is a fire code that doesn't allow real candles but for me, a real candle makes a big difference in the ambiance. I was under the impression Roots in Broomfield was related to the Roots in Longmont, where I had a nice meal about six years ago. This dinner was challenging, to say the least, in every aspect of the meal. In retrospect, I don't know why the head waiter didn't stick around to make sure this new waiter's 1st order went well. And lastly, I use handicap parking. The handicap space that is the closest to the front door is still about 100' down a hill. I had to walk up the hill either on grass or on their crumbling asphalt driveway, which is treacherous to someone who has trouble walking. The handicapped spaces should be cut out of the grass at the top of the hill, closer to the door. I rather doubt any of us will be back. read more
