Wasn't happy with my experience with the groomer at the time (she cut his nail too deep and he was bleeding) so we didn't go back for many years. Well, my usual grooming place no longer offers full grooming services beyond a bath so I was in search of a new spot. Pawber Shop's current location is only a few blocks away from my previous groomer so it worked out. Giving it another shot, I made my appointment and brought my senior pup in. Didn't give super detailed instructions but when it was time for pick up, my guy was looking and smelling real good. The girls were real nice and it was a very seamless in and out for us. Pricing was standard for a medium sized dog (31lb cocker spaniel). Parking was easy. Guess this is our spot again. read more

The environment is clean and welcoming, with happy dogs roaming around and a relaxed vibe that puts both pets and owners at ease. Booking an appointment is simple, and she's consistently on time and efficient, finishing the cut in a reasonable timeframe. There's metered street parking right outside, though Ocean Avenue can get a bit busy. That said, I never feel rushed, and I always appreciate the care and attention Fiona gives each pup. We've been loyal customers of Pawber for nearly 5 years, and can confidently say that this place, and especially the owner Michelle, are unmatched in their expertise, work ethic and integrity. Michelle is patient, incredibly skilled, and one of the few groomers who does a POODLE haircut just right, and exactly how you want it. Before discovering Pawber, we had several disappointing experiences with other groomers: sloppy haircuts, rudeness, long / stressful days with our dogs locked up for hours (as many as 10 hours per day) even though I would schedule months in advance, exorbitant fees, and general lack of care and attention. Since coming to Pawber, we've been consistently pleased. Even after moving down South, we make the hour-long drive every 8 weeks because the experience is absolutely worth it. Michelle works her magic every time - our dogs come out looking polished and beautiful. I rarely post reviews, but need to give a shout-out to the amazing Bethina! Unlike other groomers who "poodle my doodle," she understands exactly how to achieve that perfect teddy bear look. The first time I came to the Pawber Shop, I asked her to give my pooch a summer cut and retain some of the scruff around his face. Kurt came back looking so incredibly dapper, I now refuse to go anywhere else and immediately scheduled my follow-up appointment! If you have a doodle, ask for Bethina. We brought my maltipoo / shih tzu here after a few grooms from other places (Petco & Scissor Me Whiskers) and this is by far our favorite spot! My neighbor recommended The Pawber Shop to us, and we were not disappointed. I believe Michaela was our groomer, and she was very attentive to our requests. My dog was super happy when he left, which wasn't the case with the other grooming salons we went to. The price is much more worth it than Petco, and they did a far better job. Love!! read more

I took my 5.5 month old mini goldendoodle to the Pawber Shop on Saturday for her very first cut, and I was extremely happy with the final result! Willow went in looking a little disheveled and came out looking like a perfectly groomed doll! I was nervous looking for the perfect grooming salon in the city and I am so glad I found this salon! Makayla took very good care of Willow (her first time being away from us). She's clean, smells great and is looking like a 10! My only request to Makayla was to cut Willows fur short . The Pawber Shop would probably not be my first choice for grooming my furbaby, but my husband likes to take her there, so he does. I usually have my husband handle the whole affair, but this time I had to go pick her up. When I arrived, our little one was excited to see me. Seeing how long her tail hair was left, I asked the groomer to trim it a bit shorter (our baby is a shih tzu, so there's a tendency for her to drag her tail over some nasties during her walks). The groomer obliged with no problem, but THIS is when it goes downhill; she put our baby on the table unrestrained and tried to trim her tail. Our baby tried to jump off the table (about 3 feet off the floor) and the groomer held her in mid-air by the tail!! I was appalled that she would grab my 12.5 lb. baby like that! I'm sure it must've hurt!! Instead of placing her arm under our baby, she pulled her back onto the table by her tail! OMG, I was shocked! She didn't try to comfort her or anything; just proceeded to put a restraint on her and trimmed her tail. I'm going to give the groomer the benefit of the doubt; everything happened so quickly that she probably wasn't thinking... she just grabbed what she could. Anyway, I might be going back to other groomers I've tried for the next grooming. The cut itself is probably a 4, but the trauma was definitely less than a 3! read more

OMG -- where to begin? Dropped our dog off this morning for a grooming followed by a day of daycare; was told I could pick her up anytime up until 6:00. Stopped by at 4:45 to pick our dog up and found the store -- completely closed. Locked up. Lights out. Nobody home. Now the hours on the front door clearly state that the grooming business is open until 5:00, and daycare is open until 6:00, so I was clearly confused and concerned. Where was our dog -- sitting in a cage somewhere? Running loose in a closed room at the store? Taken home to someone's home? I had no idea -- there was no note of explanation, nothing to indicate what was going on or what I should do. I called their number -- twice -- no answer, left a message. Knocked (loudly) on the door -- no response. 15 - 20 minutes later a woman pulls up, gets out of her car and walks to the front door, also there to pick up her dog. She's quite concerned that they're closed but has the personal cell phone number of one of the walkers/employees. She calls the number, gets a response and fortunately the woman is in the store, downstairs, with the dogs. Two minutes later she comes upstairs with another women and our two dogs. Takes their time unlocking the door, never acknowledges that anything was wrong, indifferent to the whole situation, no understanding at all as to why I was upset. No apologies, no indication or acknowledgment that they had done anything wrong. Seriously -- had this other dog owner not come along, with one of the employees phone number -- what would I do? DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. Complete amateur hour -- and worse. read more

This is our go-to place for our little pup. They cut his hair really well, and anytime I come to pick him up, it seems like he's having a grand ol' time hanging out with all the other little dogs. The only hard thing is that you do need to plan in advance as they book out for a week solid usually. But it's worth it! read more

I have 2 standard poodles. they cut down the girls tail. no poof whatsoever. they did call asking for specifics and I did say I trusted them. but what is a standard without the tail? plus they weren't ready on time but that is not unusual. it's going to take years to grow back. If I could give this shop ZERO stars I would. I cannot remember a time I was this emotionally furious, I'm nearly in tears. We recently adopted a dog, Luna, who was a stray from Oakland. I had heard good things about The Pawber Shop from other dog owners, so decided to give it a try. My main reason I wanted to go was for frequent nail trims to get the quick to recede a bit since it was overgrown from before we adopted her. Then I figured by the time I'm paying for the nail trim, I should just get her pampered with the full bath package. About two hours after I dropped her off, they called me asking to come in and help hold Luna so they could do her front paws. No big deal, I don't mind helping, but figured they should've been able to handle it. BTW, Luna is about 55 pounds. I get there and pet her and help hold her face away so the woman can clip her nails. I was impressed with how quickly she was able to get it done! But then we pay and I leave the shop. We hop in the car to go home, I start driving down the street and look back at Luna and there's blood ALL OVER MY BACKSEAT. I pull over right in front of the shop and bring her in. They clipped 3 of her front claws below the quick. They applied styptic powder, which lasted about 30 seconds once we were in the car, and she started bleeding again. The only thing they did was offer a quick apology. Like, oh well, it happens. Remember, the whole reason I brought her in was so she didn't have a traumatizing experience with nail trims. When we got home, I couldn't even let Luna in the house. There's blood on the sidewalk into our house, our tunnel entrance, and all over our garage leading to our backyard. I just spent 30 minutes cleaning out the backseat of my car. And most importantly, I trusted someone with my dog, and now she is completely terrified and traumatized by this whole experience. The worst scheduling experience ever. I've taken my dogs to the Pawber Shop on and off over the years. It's never been easy to make an appointment -the only way to schedule is to call and leave a message. Usually it takes several days before they call back, if they call back at all. The last grooming appointment was the final straw, however. After playing phone tag with the Pawber Shop for about a week, I was finally able to schedule a grooming appointment. When I showed up with my unkempt Golden Retriever, shop closed. I waited more than half an hour and then left. Of course, they didn't return my voicemail, inquiring what happened. To talk to them, I had to physically walk into the shop and ask for another appointment. They were sorry, blah, blah blah, and said they could take my dog the next morning. Next morning -Same thing - I show up with the dog and shop is closed (they had told me someone would be there at 8am)! Someone did arrive about 40 minutes later, but it made me late to work. The people are nice enough and my dog usually comes out looking good, but there are plenty of quality pet groomers out there with better scheduling and communication systems. read more

When I first called to set up his first appointment, the owner, Michelle, asked if he had all of his shots and asked for his veterinarian's information. It was reassuring to know that this business was ensuring and prioritizing the safety and health of all their customers. Mickey loves coming here! He always gets excited when we get close to the shop and is happy to see the lovely and warm team. You can tell that everyone loves and understands dogs and I've always felt comfortable dropping Mickey off to get groomed. Wouldn't go back. I told them my dog had mats behind her ears that she needed shaved off and asked if they could do her anal glands as well. They told me that they would as long as her glands neded it. Well they did neither and I didn't realize until I got home and saw that she was still scooting her butt. I called back to ask if they did them for her and they told me no because she didn't need it (which was bs). I had to cut the mats out myself and YouTube tutorials on how to do her anal glands myself. They were so full it made me pretty upset they left her like that. My dog shouldn't still need grooming after leaving the groomers, especially for $115! The only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because they didn't hurt or cut her. We've been bringing our little pup to The Pawber Shop for as long as we've had him... about 4 years. He gets super nervous anytime he knows he will be left with someone other than his humans (which is not often), but he does pretty well with our friends at The Pawber Shop. They do a great job with him. Our little guy always comes back clean, fresh, and super happy. A couple of times, he's come back with little accessories... a valentine scarf and a blue & yellow puff for the Warriors, who were in playoff season. They clearly take good care of our little guy and that means a lot to us. They cannot always answer the phone, as they are busy with the pups, but no worries because they call back if you leave a message. read more

This was our second visit to the pawber shop. They were friendly over the phone, offer a $5 discount on first visits, and open later than most grooming places. I had an awesome experience on my first visit. The Pawber Shop is really spacious and the dogs look really comfortable while getting groomed. My dog looked so handsome after his bath, haircut, nail trim, etc. Prices are super affordable and competitive. Opening until 7pm is a huge plus for me. The wait was 1.5-2 hours. Michelle groomed my dog on both occasions, but after we got home from our second visit, I noticed that the hair on my dog's face was super uneven! It was clearly shorter on one side- it looked like he had a stroke! I didn't have time to take him back in that week, so I left it alone. read more

Michelle and her team are the best. I'm really sad to have lost them in Westportal but some greedy landlords were charging way too much for the rent so she was forced to move. She's just down the street and not far but it was much more convenient for me and West Portal. However, after visiting the new space, so worth it! It's much bigger, super clean, and she has a down stores area where she is planning on doing daycare. They are all super nice, I have no problem driving to Ocean Avenue, easy parking, and fabulous fabulous place to take my dogs. read more

I'm beyond disappointed with the service my family received from this business. Michelle was so rude over the phone when I called to discuss why my puppy's ears were cut and her body was so short. She was shown multiple pictures when we dropped her off and it was not what she came out with!!!!!! She was incredibly righteous when I called her and not once would she even apologize when we told her how unhappy we were with the cut. She said she was so busy and doesn't take on new clients when I asked her why my dog was being cut by someone else. NO customer service at all. Our last puppy cut from them was fine this is UNACCEPTABLE!!!! My daughter is so disappointed that this is how her puppy looks after her first real cut. read more

I took my dog Kimber here for the Groom package (January 30, 2019) and came away with neutral feelings. Kimber is a Jack Russell/Bichon Frise mix that weighs in at just under 15 pounds so I assumed that she would be considered a "small" dog. I talked briefly with the groomer on what we'd like done and I said to make her look like a Jack Russell again, meaning short hair all around instead of the long thick fur that had grown over the past few months. When I picker her up her hair was short as expected but there were a few spots (maybe 2-3) where it was uneven/missed. I was able to fix those areas myself once we got home and I had a closer look. No big deal. Looked like they did a good job with the ear cleaning and nail trim. When the young lady went to ring me up she charged me $90 but then said I get $5 off as a new customer, so it was $85 total. I didn't question her at the time because I thought that maybe I read the pricing structure wrong for a small dog. It turns out I was charged the medium dog price. Oh well, maybe that's how pricing is nowadays for small dog grooming. I used to have Kimber's grooming done at the Pawington in SSF when I worked down the street from them and it was only $65 for the same type of package. They were able to take me on the same day that I called so that's a plus and they're local to me also. Parking isn't bad but it's only metered slots.
