This is a gorgeous new restaurant that has its act "almost" completely together. Other than a complete failure to be greeted at the front door when we arrived for our 530 pm reservation, we think they got most everything else right. The hostess couldn't have gone far with her jacket and phone still sitting right there, but we waited a very very very long time to be seated. I finally stuck my head into the restaurant to flag down the bartender and a young woman who was seated at the bar came over to make excuses. The front of house staff had no idea when the live music was supposed to begin in the dining room, but turns out it was six and not five pm start as indicated on the webstie. Finally a hostess took us to our table. Service at the table was outstanding, she was clearly well trained. We came for happy hour but stayed for a fantastic dinner. From the happy hour menu, the blistered green beans with spicy Asian seasonings were amazing! They were hot and I could not stop eating them regardless. My husband ordered the habit smashburger with bacon white American pickle and skinny fries. He was very happy with this smashburger, finished every bite. I ordered the most amazing scallops which were seared absolutely to crispy perfection on both sides. Accompanied by butternut squash puree and prosciutto wrapped asparagus, this gorgeous dish was phenomenal and I nearly licked the plate. After we finish dining I toured the ladies room and the second and third floors of this expansive establishment. The second floor is a cool speakeasy and the third floor is a gorgeous patio. While it was way too cold to be in use during a early November cold snap, the sofas and view look like someplace I would spend a lot of time during the spring and summer. The food here was super yummy. I like how it offers healthier options and greasy hangover options, so there is something for everyone. The food is very instagrammable too. Each dish offers a twist on something that's pretty common. My salmon came with crème fraiche and it was sooo yummy. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food. The service was pretty quick for most part. Our server was def high and I would've definitely appreciated better explanation on the food but it was still decent. For Sunday brunch during the day... this would probably be the biggest reason I wouldn't come here again if there was one but it's wayyyyyyyy too dark. For Sunday brunch it needs to not feel so dark. Great restaurant in Charleston. The food is delicious and the vibe is very cool. We spent a good few hours before our flight and the restaurant was very accommodating. We were offered the dining room or roof top for lunch, we chose the rooftop. Excellent choice with spectacular view and under an umbrella with great breeze. We booked the Peacock on a whim after visiting the aquarium, part of my birthday celebration. The inside is super nice and has a New Orleans style vibe. Our server was pleasant but we didn't see much of him due to two very large bridal shower tables. I enjoyed the brunch smashburger, nothing special but worth a try. My wife had the crispy chicken sandwich, not the best in the area but still very good. Our daughter ordered the crispy chicken tenders and son had a bowl full of fries lol. The best part of the meal was the two daiquiri drinks I had, definitely would be back for drinks but not sure about the food as there are so many other places in the area. Wow! Just Wow! My friends and I wanted to check out their rooftop but it was closed because of the storm but lucky us! We were able to meet, Chef Jelo, try his amazing creations, and be waited on by their amazing waitstaff and bartenders inside! The food was immaculate and I have been converted to a person who eats fresh tuna! I love sushi but I am not one to eat tuna, normally, but the poke and the oysters both had the freshest tuna I have ever had the pleasure of eating! The oysters were amazing! The restaurant was amazing and its decor includes a cool make it a habit sign to get awesome photo ops!! We will definitely be back to check out the rooftop after this weather passes! Flat affect, no warmth, no customer service. We waited over 10 minutes after being seated to even get water. The service was about as good as if you went to an Applebee's probably not even as friendly. The salad was tiny but what they give you a lot of is french fries. Typical of a place trying to be fancy actually chintzy. Apparently the server said he was the only wait staff on the floor but in that case a manager needs to step up stat to help refill waters which we were out of much of the time, bring checks etc. it's not that hard . One of downtown Charleston's newest additions, The Habit offers some thing for everyone. With a formal dining room on the lower level, a lounge that feels like an old school club on the middle level and a beautiful view of the water from the rooftop, this is one place you don't want to skip. Popped in for a quick rooftop drink before dinner at another location. Downstairs vibes looked very comfy for indoor diners. The rooftop bartender, Logan, was excellent. When he realized he was out of grapefruit juice for my cocktail he asked if there was anything else he could make for me. I ordered a standard vodka/cran and he said "mind if I put a little spin on it?" He whipped up a refreshing, out of this world cocktail with vodka, cran, lemon/lime, a splash of lavender, and a tiny bit of watermelon with a salted rim. Phenomenal. We named it the "Touch of Charleston" cocktail and I hope they add it as a feature. We can't wait to return! read more

My wife and I have started between our home in Michigan and our place in Florida several times a year, and Charleston is one of our preferred stops. One of the highlights of Charleston is the food, and our new go to restaurant is the Peacock on E Bay. The interior is modern chic and nice without being pretentious, which is a perfect description of the entire experience. The staff is super friendly from the moment you walk into the building. Our server, Mille, has very sweet, friendly and attentive and allowed us to really enjoy our meal without ever feeling neglected or overburdened. Ah the food. My wife enjoyed their smash burger, having talked about it for a few days in advance. She said the burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. While not normally someone who likes bacon on her burgers, my wife loved it here. I tried a bite and can only say this: I don't know what voodoo they used to cook it, but all bacon should be handled this way by rule of law. I had the halibut stuffed with crab meat, served over summer squash risotto, which was pure heaven. Every layer was delicious on their own and even better together. The fish was cooked perfectly and the crab was nested on top, almost like the yolk of an egg. The risotto was creamy but very light and bright. I'll admit we splurged on dessert and it didn't disappoint. The carrot cake may well be the best we've ever had. Definitely stop in to the Peacock if you are in Charleston. read more

We did Sunday brunch here and definitely will be back! 4.5/5. The Peacock is situated at the perfect location near the Charleston Market, Carmella's, and the waterfront. The interior is adorable, comfortable, and clean. There are beautiful French doors looking out on the street. Our server was incredibly nice, bubbly, and comfortable. The food was fantastic, especially as a non-southern brunch. This felt more like what I would find up in New England, but with a southern twist, which was refreshing. We also did the mimosa service and it was a perfect addition. It was almost empty when we arrived at 11:30 for Sunday brunch, but then got busy by the time we left. The servers and kitchen had a hard time managing it all, but overall it was great experience and pretty affordable for downtown Charleston. read more

The rooftop area is incredible, downstairs is quite beautiful, as well. There is elevator axcess to the rooftop which works well for mobility and joint issues. Beautiful and spacious patio with loungers and sofas with two large televisions. Our server was Maurice and he gave us the royal treatment (offered to turn the tv for us, which we were enjoying the view, so he put Christmas music on for us). We were the only diners there at this time. He gave us his beverage and food recommendations and they did not disappoint. He took lots of pictures of my husband and me. I had the risotto and my husband had a hugeee delicious portion of poutine (we could have just shared that and had plenty). Brought warm gravy out for us and poured it on the poutine. The mushroom risotto was perfect, the mushrooms had the best earthy flavor and the extra shaved parm was such a treat! I had the opportunity to check this place out for the first time last night! It was fairly quiet so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. They have both tables and booths available. The cocktails were pretty good but nothing spectacular. We asked to substitute vodka for gin in one of them, but were unable to because the signature cocktails are pre-batched. The happy hour deals are reasonable. They have an excellent wine list and great liquor selection as well. I look forward to coming back when the rooftop is open and trying some food! read more

What a nice surprise to see a new place opened when I went t downtown. The service was excellent. The Smash Burger was delicious and cooked just the way I like it. The ambiance is so inviting and relaxing. The bathrooms are clean and I really loved the mouthwash provided in the bathroom as a nice touch. Finally, after 3 years, 5-star experience in downtown Charleston. For some reason, it's quite difficult to find a sushi-grade piece of fresh tuna in Charleston (dark purple in color, no sinew). Despite being told 'it's really good and fresh' and ordering it at Royal Tern, and other downtown Charleston restaurants, they've all come with disappointment. The ONLY places that had fresh, dark purple tuna so far were Kingstide in Daniel Island, Blu Oyster in Johns, and here. When I asked about the freshness, the server was kind enough to take a photo of the tuna in the kitchen, and show it to me. Sold. The portion was roughly 8 oz and would easily retail for $30+ lb at CudaCo. This made our $36 entree an absolute BARGAIN. Restaurant itself was beautiful. We'll 100% be back and can't wait to check out the music on Thursdays and the 2nd floor. Added bonus, laughing at the 'know-nothings' paying $6 more to eat $42 salmon ($9.99/lb at publix) in their pearl necklaces at High Cotton on the way over. read more
