The young girl at the estate sale was really nice. She was great! Estate sales are fun and she was working, and also having fun, which is smart. Arrive early and expect to be treated like cattle. We arrived at the estate sale on time with number 16. They had to have opened early because at 10am they were already on number 45. The boy guarding the line was incredibly rude with a bit of a god complex. I simply explained to him what my number was and he responded, "Don't bullshit me." We were at 10 which was when they advertised opened. When he did say I could go in, he acted like he was doing me a favor. We walked in, told the checkout woman what had happened and left without buying what we had planned. Not worth being treated this way for overpriced used items. I would caution anyone to avoid this company if you are considering having someone manage a sale like this for you. I go to a lot of estate sales. Blue Moon is the best. I had an amazing experience at the Perfect thing. I did exactly that I found the perfect thing for my bathroom, I actually should say that I found the perfect things for my bathroom because I have been on the market for some beautiful antique mirrors for the finishing touches of our remodeled bathroom in a historical home. I had scoured the Internet for just the right finishing touch when I came across a wonderful set of antique mirrors at the perfect thing. Now this was about 4 1/2 hours away from my house so I called to be able to purchase the antique mirrors and was helped right away. They took measurements made sure that it would fit in my house and the customer service was amazing. I was able to purchase the mirrors over the phone and they had no problem holding it until I could come and pick it up which was a few weeks from the time that I bought it and the pick up went very smoothly and the showroom was beautiful. It's good to know that I can shop online and if I see anything that I love within the store or on any of their socials, I can easily call the store and purchase from the convenience of my home and then decide when it fits into my schedule, how I can pick it up. The pricing was fair for the high end antiques I was after and well worth the drive as the mirrors were in perfect condition. I hope to be back soon and I will be shopping from afar. read more

I don't understand the pricing here. They had some nice items but regularly visit most of the antique shops within 40ish miles and you can get much of the same (and greater variety) at half time a quarter of the price. Obviously condition and specific makers, etc. affect the price of antiques but this shop is across the board hugely expensive. I didn't get the hostility a lot of other people experienced here but I'm a not visibly disabled adult white woman so that's not necessarily saying much based on the demographics mentioned by others. Save your money, make the drive to Thrift and Dollar in Aurora for a much wider selection and exponentially better prices. read more

This store has a lot of beautiful things but unlike some other used furniture stores in our area, The Perfect Thing charges a lot. I stopped in to check out the price on a painting that would have been $60 anywhere else and it was three hundred something (no, the painter was not famous). I am so grateful to have found such a wonderfully run estate sale in Lake Forest on the days of August 12-13, 2023. It gave me great confidence to know this Estate Sale company, The Perfect Thing, is run by people who are Certified Apparisers and it inspired me to purchase with total confidence. So much so, that I came back the second day and purchased four of the higher value art pieces and a beautiful Baker piece. I could not be more grateful for the way they handled an extraordinarily well attended two days, and was so impressed by their professionalism. People of every age, gender, race, and expertise were there and I do not think there was anything left at the end of the second day! We also had an Estate Sale last year, so I am personally aware of how challenging it can be to run these sales. OMG what is this place? Is it consignment? Then why are the prices soooooooooooo high? Is it strictly resale? I cannot image what kind of person would buy anything here. If some of this stuff had been in my home ~ it would have gone in the garbage. I cannot figure out where this stuff came from. The oriental carpets were abundant but showed that the people that owned them did not know how to take care of them ~ lots of broken threads from using the wrong type of vacuum. The two women at the desk kept watching me and my group of my friends as we were looking around the store as if we were going to steal or break something which is uncomfortable and it felt like they were racially profiling us. They watched us the entire time we were in the store from the time we entered to the time we exited and they kept asking us if we needed help when we said we were just browsing. My friend was also threatened with her life by one of the woman for simply asking to look at their jewelry. It caused my friend great distress and no one should treat their customers like that. The lady said she would "grab her gun and shoot her" when my friend touched the glass cabinet door which she was trying to hold ajar to look at the jewelry. I wanted to look at a ring that caught my eye. Judith Martin, the worker who assisted me already had a passive attitude and rolled her eyes saying "sure". On top of that, she and her coworker of a daughter were already giving my friends disgusted stares. That sure wasn't a good way to interact with first-time customers at the store. Felt UNWELCOMED the whole entire time. She had told me to "back off" while she opened the glass cabinet. I had already had the intuition that she was rude and disrespectful. Of course, I politely step aside as she unlocked the door. She proceeded to emphasize how "expensive" the ring was and how "it wouldn't fit" me as she handed me the item. The glass door was about to hit her and I tried to stop it. I thought I was being nice. She IMMEDIATELY changed her tone of voice and said "don't touch my door. If you touch it again I will get my GUN and SHOOT you in the face". That was in no way my intention and her comment caught me way off guard. She then proceeded to talk to me like she didn't just threaten to HARM me. What caused her to assume and even say such a thing. Don't go to that place unless you feel comfortable being judged. Their eBay customer service is just as bad as their in-person customer service apparently is! They listed an item with the "Make an Offer" option but then never responded--not with a counter-offer or even a rejection--to any of my offers. When I finally got ahold of them via message and began working with them on shipping options, they sold the piece within the couple of hours it took me to get a quote and didn't even reply to let me know. Definitely not a shop I'd ever buy from in person or on eBay. read more

The staff has a licensed appraiser. Told her over the phone what I had and she came to my house to inspect. She was honest about what could be sold and what should be donated. They sold the majority of things for top dollar and sent a check. The reason items are not cheap is because they only sell high quality furniture and accessories. This is not a garage sale and there is nothing from IKEA. The staff will help if asked, they will let you roam the store without any pressure. If you have estate quality items, the rare or unusual. This is the place to sell it or buy it. I will stop by again this weekend as they are always able to provide new items. Thank You. read more

Judith Martin of Perfect Thing ran an estate sale at my father's house and did a wonderful job with very short notice at a holiday time. Dad passed away in September 2018 and we learned at Thanksgiving that the bank that held his reverse mortgage (he lived alone) wanted everything out of the house by Christmas to put it up for sale. Our family had lived there 56 years, and we had tons of family stuff including furnishings, collections of generations of family items, Dad's model railroad collection, thousands of LPs and records, so much memorabilia from his 65 year career on radio and television including the radio studio in his house, many other collectibles, you name it. Judith and her team took over the house in the days before the auction, and everything we hadn't moved out to storage was put up for sale. They priced every item, cleaned up the house and put everything nicely on display, and ran a two-day sale Fri-Sat a week before Christmas. We were very happy both with the number of things she found new homes for and the proceeds. A few days after the sale we got a check for our portion and an itemization of all items that sold for $50 or more. Our family had such short notice to clear out and abandon the house, and Judith was a godsend in helping us clear so much out so quickly. She is a Certified Appraiser and was President of the International Society of Appraisers, so she is highly experienced and credentialed and has a large range of contacts she can call on to come in and evaluate and purchase items, which she did at our sale. I think we got fair value for the items sold, and had we had more advance planning as is the norm to give her I am sure proceeds would have gone higher. Judith was great to work with, really knows her stuff, and I recommend her highly. (PS. My partner and I had been in several times to shop and had a pretty good experience as buyers. It's not fabulous and the prices are a little high for us, but we did stop by whenever we were in the area because we're both collectors and the variety of items is great. However, our experience as (potential) sellers was much worse. My parents are antique dealers, so usually if we have something and we need info about it, we send a pic to my parents. In this case, the items were early 20th century art giveaways as well as region-specific pieces, so my parents encouraged us to try to sell the items locally. The woman who looked at the pieces was very rude and dismissive, even going so far as to make a face. We knew that we didn't have undiscovered Picassos--but you can nicely say that what we have is not worth anything or is not right for your store. I have watched my parents do it many times. But to sneer at us and deliver the news in a snotty tone? Totally unnecessary. We'll be doing our shopping (and selling) elsewhere from now on. read more

I love the Perfect Thing. I went in there just to look and found the perfect desk and dinner table- both great quality at a great price. They had every piece of furniture you could imagine in there, and they are always getting new things. We had our purchases delivered to the city, which cost a little more but was definitely worth it. As a regular at the Perfect Thing, I find the gentleman's (Brad E.) comments regarding the sales staff laughable. My husband and I have gotten several beautiful pieces of furniture and often come in just to see what cool new things they've gotten. While the ladies of the store are friendly and bright, neither I nor my husband have ever seen them being flirtatious in any way. I have yet to see the described "revealing" clothing, they are always professionally dressed. The Perfect Thing is a great place to shop. The owners really know their sfuff and if you didn't know this was all consignment, you'd think it was a high-end retail store. Everything is beautifully placed and well-maintained. As for the prices, for the quality of the furniture you get there I find the prices extremely reasonable. Perhaps Brad E. should go back to IKEA, I'm sure he'd find the (lack of) service he is looking for there and perhaps they'll even refill his coffee. read more

I freaking love this place. They have the coolest stuff ever. However, I have to drop a star because some of the stuff is really overpriced. Staff is friendly and you can spend at least an hour in here browsing and have fun I shop resale and vintage shops a lot and you have to know your stuff if you shop here. You can do better at an estate sale if you are looking for antique or vintage furniture. BUT, if you want some cool sterling candle sticks or funky framed pictures this is a great place. Plus, it's in Danada Square so you can park and visit this place and get a bite to eat. Cool place...just don't think that because it's used you will get a screaming deal. Some cool lamps and glasswear but left empty handed because I just couldn't pull the trigger on used items that are that expensive. Sure, you'll find it here (if that thing is a home furnishing), but then most likely leave in tears because you can't afford it or because of the damage you just did to your credit card. Even though we got a friendly "hello" when we walked in, I don't think the staff really believed we were their choice customer, and no one checked in on us as we perused. The items in this shop are TOTALLY beautiful- couches, tables, armoires, mirrors, rugs, etc etc, but the prices will definitely hurt the wallet. We saw a nice large mirror that was $800, for example. The mirror did not have a solid-feeling frame to it, either so I don't get why it was so steep. If I had to furnish a house and wanted antiques, this place would be very far down on my list (as in probably not on it). If I won the lottery and had thousands more to spend, then yes, this store would be a little higher on my list. read more

The store has moved to downtown Wheaton now. I stopped in earlier this year, fell in love with an armoire and a unique wall chest. They have independent movers you can hire to get your purchases delivered. I am very VERY happy with my pieces and they look as good as new, plus the quality is there. I just left one of their estate sales extremely disappointed.......I was interested in a pair of chairs and called my husband to make sure they would fit where I wanted to put them since they were bigger then I anticipated. One of the ladies rudely interrupted my conversation without saying excuse me and angrily pointed at me with the words" you need to make a decision immediately because I have other clients that want to buy them now. I go to estate sales all the time and I was floored by the curt and unprofessional behavior of the sales people - one of whom was in charge.
