Been coming here for years now....long time resident of Oaks! This is a local place and is a best kept secret for those of us who live with 3 miles. We've never had a bad meal here. The smoked bbq menu is relatively inexpensive.....(best value in the area!!!!) The beer selection has always been to my/our liking....they have your standard commercial on tap, along with 5-6 taps of excellent crafts....(with a good balance of styles). We typically go during the week and get great service, good food....all reasonably priced. Should you decide to hit this place on the weekend....you'll get the same great food...all reasonably priced....but don't expect that great service. Your bartenders are your waiters/waitresses. I still give this place 4 stars (for their great food, good beers at great prices)...but be patient should you decides to visit this place on a Friday/Saturday night. read more

Awesome bar! Nothing fancy but busy on a Saturday afternoon with families, couples, variety of ages. Bartender Jes was great, waited on us right away. Hubby had a PBR...on tap, a pint for 2.50. He went with the special...fried chicken and french fries lettuce and tomato and sauce all wrapped up in a wrap...huge! Wings were recommended in several reviews...I went with order of 10 mild so my not spicy husband could taste them. Meaty and.perfectly done...could have gone with a half order that they offer. After Christmas shopping in king of Prussia with my wife she wanted something that didn't have a hour and half wait .So he went to yelp and when we saw it listed as a "dive bar " and had 4 stars knew we wanted go there. When we got out of the car and smelled the meat smoker we knew it had to be good and it was . I had the pulled pork and my wife had the chili .Good food and beer what could be better. read more

This place is a great little neighborhood gem and the food is great, but keep in mind ONE bartender to handle one entire side of the place. Please keep in mind that the bartender changes the kegs, cooks, yep I said cooks the late night menu, while handling up to 20-30 guests ALONE. Sunday afternoon. I understand it can get unexpectedly busy but this was the worst experience here ever. The bartender/waitress was the only employee working except for the cook. Took 15 minutes to get a drink. Food came out wrong and couldn't even get what we needed to make the food right. I've worked as a restaurant manager and went to college for it at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. I've been here numerous times and service is always slow. My 6 year old son was with me today. My wife died of cancer and I'm a single dad now. Don't get out much to eat. Very disappointed!! Maybe the owner should not buy new tables and put cameras in his restaurant worried about people stealing and such and worry about SERVICE!!! If you don't have good service you wont be around forever. That comes 1st!!!! You can have good food but if you can't get proper service you go bye, bye. read more

The Perky Cafe is a close to home favorite. The food here is so good!! The wings here are amazing, so many flavorful options, but what is really amazing is the smoker. You can even get smoked wings, and they are a delight. Not all of their food is smoked though, they offer a diversified menu, from horseradish pickles to california wraps. I've been to the Perky several times. I really enjoy the bar's atmosphere as well as their food. The prices are also very reasonable. I would have loved to continue patronizing this bar, except that the service is very poor. Normally, I wouldn't be so quick to judge but on several occasions I received bad service from at least 2 separate bartenders. The heavyset one with the blond hair is especially bad. As a customer I have felt ignored and even like a bother when I needed anything. Basically, the bartenders socialize with either the regulars or their friends and ignore all other customers. As a former bartender myself, you aren't qualified to be one because you stand behind a bar and pour a draft. It requires a level of customer service, which these girls do not understand. If it wasn't for the lack of good service, I would be giving the Perky 4 stars. read more

The food at the Perkiomen might seem good at first... But everytime we've eaten there, we've gotten sick. We tried this place twice with some friends. The first time, my wife and I ran to the bathroom as soon as we got home. The second time, our whole table of friends left the table to go to the bathroom. Never in my life did I think I would use these two words in the same sentence..... Disappointing Bbq. We stopped after work to grab a quick bite to eat about 9 pm. First time there. Sat in the booths in the big room. Waitress took our order and only brought my girlfriends food.... Didn't dawn on her that I was sitting there with nothing to eat as she sat and talked with friends at another table and then gave the other bartender a back rub. She checked on us to see if everything was ok???? We asked for my sandwich and she had no recollection of me even ordering it??? She put the order in and then sat down with her friends again. Now I've been in the food business for 25 years. I can hear the kitchen ringing the bell for my sandwich and watch as she didn't move for 3-4 more rings. Finally sandwich gets there only to be... As I said disappointed in how dry the brisket was. Based on reviews I read here we tried it. Prob won't again.... Which is a shame... It is a cool little place. read more
