Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon here randomly after an outing, so can't speak to when it's crowded or at peak hours - food was great (affordable, delicious, and generous portions), service was attentive and fast, nice big tv screens, bar had a good variety. Tried going here last month. No hostess. No employee to even talk to about ordering. After a long time waiting and watching my husband was able to corner someone who told us to just find a seat and someone would come to us. We managed to scrounge up an extra chair that we joined to a one-chair table and waited. And waited. And waited. The table next to us told us good luck... they'd been waiting for someone to show up with their check since before we'd arrived. They'd only eaten have their food and said it was fair. We waited a little more and gave up. We left. No one even noticed. Worst customer service ever! read more

Bring bail money This is a pretty dang sweet local joint that opens its doors to the hockey tournament heathens that are already shelac'd from post game parking lot festivities. This is usually subsequent to one of 2 scenarios: A fight that started on the ice spread into the stands which spread into the lobby and the cops showed up. ...Or a fight broke out in the parking lot after a bunch of guys were laughing at some other players girl friend who was gracefully throwing up in the parking lot...(which was pretty funny I gotta tell ya...ok you had to be there) and the cops showed up. So after "the man" conducted their sweep, everybody heads over to the Perkiomen just down the street. Great bar. Nice beer selection, great bar food mainstays that will satisfy any hungry beer league hockey player. This place is awesome enough that the likelihood that you'll consume several pitchers is a distinct possibility. Screaming the lyrics to "F da Po'lice" by NWA and then getting beat down like Rodney King by the town cops as you walk back to the rink also has high probability. No worries, you should be out of the slammer by the next mornings game. Bottom Line: No Sidney Crosby cry baby jokes in the Perkiomen Cafe...this is a Pittsburg Penguins town. I was in The Perk last week to catch up with an old friend over the Thanksgiving break and really had a blast. I had my first drink at The Perk about 7 years ago, so it was a nice feeling to ask for a beer without a huge knot in my stomach. I don't remember eating here before but that's probably not because I didn't... in any case, we ordered the nachos (without the chili) and they hit the spot! A few rounds of pool later and it was like I never left. The Perk allows smoking, which I was told, in Pennsylvania is left to the owner's discretion if 80% or more of an establishment's revenue is derived from alcohol sales. Naturally if most of the clientele prefers to smoke while they drink, and no longer can, it could mean the end of that bar. From a business perspective I think this is a fair policy; from a health standpoint I say thumbs down. All said and done, if it weren't for the smoke, this little friendly joint would be at the top of my list of places to grab a drink while out in the 'burbs. But unless someone else suggests The Perk, I'll probably save my lungs and pick a different spot next time. read more

Love that they sell brisket by the lb(sliced) as takeout. I just needed the protein for a quick dinner for me and my little person that night, and meal prep for the next few days. I enjoyed the flavor - it was a bit too spicy for my kid(worked out when I rinsed it off). They get 2 stars because the brisket was too dry for me to swallow even a small bite w/out help from something to drink. It got saved by dressing when added to a salad. Solid, "hole in the wall" bar and grill. They have a good mix of typical bar food, but with a twist. Wings are the best in the area (yes, really) with great tasting sauces. The person in charge of the kitchen likes to mix it up a bit, with interesting specials. Bar staff are very friendly. Daytime, early evening is family-friendly. Little divey surprise here that locals know about. Decent BBQ. The front when you walk in is not much to look at, as you may have to shimmy past someone of girth if they are at the bar. The back has some seating and a little bar also. I ordered jerk wings and they did not disappoint! I BBQ myself quite a bit and these were well done, spicy, hot, and tasty. Good things take time so be prepared to wait a bit if going there for food that takes some prep and cooking time. My guess is that much of it is done to order. I will return. Atmosphere: dive bar (but clean) pool table with a large dose of heavy metal. Really good BBQ sandwiches brisket, pork, and chicken. Philly cheese steaks. Excellent sweet potato french fries. Best BBQ since I visited Texas. There was a roadside BBQ hut right outside of Texas A&M. Kind of like you in the movies. good selection of beer. After the second bite of the BBQ brisket, some fries, and a sip of Stout, I forgot about the atmosphere, the heavy metal and chowed down. Service was nice, quick and friendly. I would have stayed and tried a few more items, but I had another commitment. This place is really close to the Dump and Lowes shopping center in Oaks. I was at the Perky with some members of my family last month on a cold snowy day in Oaks. I had never been there before and we were just looking for a 'hole on the wall' bar and eat some bar food. We proceeded to order the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches which came with cole slaw, baked beans, and corn on the cob. I found the pulled pork to be delicious and the pleasant surprise was the spicy baked beans (which contained pieces of the same pulled pork in it). Just simply awesome and the right food for a cold wintery day. If I had any complaints, the cole slaw was average and the potato roll used for the sandwich was a little on the skimpy side. But as a whole, this meal was much better than I had expected. In terms of drinks, they had all of your traditional domestic beers and an assortment of craft brews if that is your thing. I did like the music being played, not sure who controlled it or if it was a jukebox, very 90s oriented with some Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, and Radiohead and no top 40. Anyhow, a great place to go with friends and pretty good food too! read more

We had the pork Sammy, the brisket Sammy, the buffalo chicken Sammy and a crispy chicken Sammy plus an order of buffalo wings. The wings were exceptional! All four sandwiches exceeded our expectations. The baked beans side was outrageous loaded with brisket and onions. House made pickles were top shelf as well. We were up in Oaks visiting for the Gun Show and decided to stop at Perky's. The atmosphere was very cool with what looks like a new back bar. The staff was very friendly. We got a Bloody Mary which was good but their food was amazing! My boyfriend is a wing snob and claims these are his new favorite. The smokiness of the ribs was amazing. I had the southern fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious. We will be taking a trip back up sometime just to stop here! read more

Went to The Perky for the first time a few weeks ago. The place was packed, which was a good sign. We sat ourselves at an open booth and the bartender/waitress come over immediately to take our drink order and gave us our menus. She failed to mention that we would need to write down our order and bring it to her at the bar. So, we sat for about 15 minutes to wait for her to return. When we realized she was behind the bar, we quickly wrote down our order on a napkin and brought it to her. We ordered wings for our appetizer and various entrees/sandwiches. We were expecting the wings to come out first (as appetizers). Well, fast forward 1 hour (maybe 75 minutes... I lost count), the entire order came out together. The bartender/waitress didn't come by to check on whether we wanted a refill on our drinks. Food came out, it was OK, nothing spectacular. However, by then, anything resembling food would have tasted good. We had to flag down the bartender/waitress to get refills. I'm not blaming the bartender/waitress for the being understaffed. This is a management issue. I do have issues with the fact that she didn't tell us that we needed to bring out order to her and that the food would take an hour for the food. Had we known, we would have probably paid the tab and went somewhere else. Maybe this is why we were not forewarned. I gave this place 1 star, because I didn't have the option to give it 1/2 star or no stars. I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short on service and food. read more

Just came back from a late lunch today. We had gone once before and really had a good time and liked the food a lot. We actually looked forward to a great lunch today with friends. The reality was it the food IMO sucked. I'm sorry that seems harsh but it really was. I worked as a waiter/bartender for over 10 years and have seen average food prepared and presented well. This food is average and the presentation was below average. The beer was good. They have a lot of good choices. We started with 'Smothered Fries' which was more like a bed of fries covered with cheese with a bottle of ranch of top. Really disappointed. I had ordered the brisket sandwich before and it was AWESOME. So this time I ordered it again and looked nothing like the original. This sandwich was essentially bbq placed on a hamburger bun with a side of baked beans for $9 dollars. I understand that anyone reading this could say 'why didn't you send it back' but my point is why should I? You charge $9 'Smoked Brisket Sammy A large portion of Smoked Texas Style Brisket on a Soft Potato Roll' but get a average hamburger bun with BBQ on top. Heck I could have gone to the Market and gotten a Hunts Manwich can for $1 and gotten more. Service was good and that helped. But all and all, no desire to go back. In the Philly King of Prussia area, there are so many restaurants around I'd rather take my chances on then this place. I really hope it gets better but honestly I've heard from friends over the last year saying the same. I hope that changes because I would like to have the meal I had the first time we went there. I've been visiting the Perky for over 18 years. So when the office ( 6 people) asked where should we order from today I suggested the Perky and everyone agreed. Today I got a salad with Brisket. Total price was $18 + tax. What I got was a container full of white lettuce, tomato, onion and a hint of bacon, topped with three small pieces of brisket that were way tougher than a $2 steak. It was cold, dry and so tough I took a steak knife to it and it just wouldn't cut. So I decided to just bite off pieces as I ate but as I tried to stick the fork into the brisket it just wouldn't go through at all. It was like I was trying to pick up a piece of wood with a fork. Look, I've always been a fan of Perky but if you're going to charge $18 for a brisket salad you HAVE TO DELIVER A TOP KNOTCH SALAD. That's not negotiable. I hope the ownership reads this and makes corrections because it's a shame to see a once great place fall off like this. Maybe it's just not the place for a salad? Whatever look, if you don't care to sell a competitively good product then take it off the menu, and don't rip off your long term patrons with sub-par food. read more

Great local bar I never would've known about had my fiance's pool league hadn't played there. I live 2 minutes away. The service was great. They have trivia on Thursdays which is a lot of fun. They also have $2 tacos on Thursdays. The fish tacos are amazing. Definitely a local bar, but not divey. Great beer selection and the drink prices are OK. I plan to return at least for trivia nights, really try the fish tacos. read more

Dive bar for sure. I haven't actually hung out there--it's a bit too dive bar like for my usual tastes! But, but the food is excellent. They smoke all their own meats, and living nearby means I get to smell that incredible smell all the time! It's tough!! Many a football Sunday we have picked up a few dozen wings of varying flavors and they are excellent. Mild does have a bit of heat to them and hot is pretty hot for sure. Cheesesteaks are great too--great bread, perfect bread to meat to cheese ration. And I would highly recommend the smoked brisket sandwich with poblano peppers--unique, handmade and...well...yum!! Have been there before and was satisfied not over The moon but satisfied. Tonight no where near satisfied. Sat there for a hour before our food came out and only after we asked if we could get our food or our check. Then out the food comes. Lukewarm at best. Brisket mozzarella sticks and wings. The wings were tepid and the mozzarella had sat so long that it had no pull to it at all and the brisket was dry. They a offered to reheat it but after an hour I was done with it. The bartender offered to take it off the check but only removed the brisket. So $41 for three drinks. Will not be going back again which is a shame because we had liked the place. The couple next to us decided to leave and go to another establishment after they saw our experience. So four lost customers. Let my experience guide your choice if you are thinking about coming to Perkys. read more

This is by far the best place to go. If you're lucky enough to come on a night Adele is working, you're in for the best bartending experience you've ever had. Plus, she is VERY easy on the eyes. You just can't go wrong with the Perky, whether it be a Monday night after work, or a Friday/Saturday night when you're throwing them down trying to break the bar, the Perky is always the answer. Been coming here for years now....long time resident of Oaks! This is a local place and is a best kept secret for those of us who live with 3 miles. We've never had a bad meal here. The smoked bbq menu is relatively inexpensive.....(best value in the area!!!!) The beer selection has always been to my/our liking....they have your standard commercial on tap, along with 5-6 taps of excellent crafts....(with a good balance of styles). We typically go during the week and get great service, good food....all reasonably priced. Should you decide to hit this place on the weekend....you'll get the same great food...all reasonably priced....but don't expect that great service. Your bartenders are your waiters/waitresses. I still give this place 4 stars (for their great food, good beers at great prices)...but be patient should you decides to visit this place on a Friday/Saturday night. read more
