Found this place while doing training for work. Food was absolutely amazingly. Brisket cheesesteak was out of this world.

Terrible service. Really disappointed. Came here few years back and enjoyed it but has gone way downhill. Showed to booth that wasn't cleaned. Bartender proceeded to ignore us and rest of area then scream at patrons who tried to find a seat. Sat for almost 15 minutes without a stop by. We left. Don't go. Not worth it. read more

Best fries I've ever had? It's possible. Nice little dive bar. A bit dark inside but was actually easy to talk to the others at my table. Decent beer selection. Nice variety of food with lots of options for how you want your BBQ. Sandwiches, quesadillas, on Mac n cheese, and more. Pulled pork was fantastic and having it over the Mac n Cheese was great. I loved the provided BBQ sauces but those looking for something exceedingly spicy might be disappointed. BUT THE SWEET POTATO FRIES. For 6$ you get a ton and they come with some mysterious dipping sauce. But they're just cooked perfectly. So crispy! Loved em. Sandwiches also came with beans which were actually very delicious! Only thing I wasn't super pleased by was the brisket. It was a bit dry. We added sauce though and having it on a potato roll sandwich was still delicious. When we told our server at a fancy chain bar in a nearby shopping Mall that we were going elsewhere for dinner. She asked where? We told her, "The Perky." "But that's a dive!" she spluttered. All dives should be like this! Off the beaten path, The Perky is engulfed in the smell of slow-burning wood. The place is neat and clean if a little dark. The service was friendly and the food, well.....it's the real deal, folks. The wings, the shrimp, the homemade beans (amazing) and even the homemade pickles (superb). As for the meats, we loved the ribs. They come dry and heavily coated with rubbings to which you apply your choice of several supplied sauces, with sweet and hot being the most popular, I believe. The pulled pork sliders were so good, we pulled it out of the buns and it straight up. While my preference is for "wet" barbecues, I'll take authentic over everything else and this is authentic. The brisket is a bit of religious battle, it comes out dry and I definitely prefer marbled and wet. So unless you like 'em dry, stick with the other stuff. The Perky is a hidden gem that I am excited we discovered today! It's nestled in a residential area where you wouldn't expect to fantastic food, great service and a clean bar but that's exactly what we found! The cheese curds tasted exactly as they do Minnesota except the Perky gives you three dipping sauces! Minnesota please take a note! Sadly I could not eat my pictured meal but everyone else did and raved about the taste and quality! Our glasses were never empty and the waitress didn't mind separate checks and even remembered all of our names. The bathrooms were spotless as were the counters. There were more rest on tap than the average bar, I was lucky e Pugh to catch a cider which happens to be my favorite! Great place normally, but today couldn't even get a beer for 10 minutes - ridiculous. One bartender/ waitress to run the whole restaurant / bar. C'mon - help the girl out. There must of been 20 people at the bar and 8 tables - not her fault. Owners need to wake up. We ordered 2 smoked Brisket sandwiches - beside the 40 minute wait, the sandwiches were awesome. Tender, good smoked flavor, the bake beans are awesome with shredded smoked pork in it and you also get a small side of coleslaw - very good. I had the Perky cater a 100 person event for the second time and was more than pleased. My guests raved about the food and unique sauces provided. Tucked away on a residential street, just off of Egypt road (near 422) is the Perky. Small parking lot in back with a handful of spaces up front, this place has it going on. Walked in yesterday evening @ 6:15 and snagged the last spot in front of the pub. Immediately, the bar is right in front of you, with some small 2 top tables to the right and a back room with a dozen more tables and TV's, games. We grabbed one of the available table tops in the bar area and were quickly greeted by a very nice server, had our menus and beers in hand within minutes. Decent beer list with many macros, but definitely some nice craft beer draft options too. Menu boasts many more options than you would think when they hand you the small laminated page, but it is packed with sandwiches, tacos, burgers, cheesesteaks, just a couple wedge salad options (did not see some that were listed on their website, so don't get your heart set on something), and a bunch of appetizers too. I went with a plate of the hot and sweet pickles ($4) and the smoked chicken tacos. Both portions were enormous. Pickles may have been store bought and soaked in their own mixture, but either way, they were amazing. Nice heat and a fantastic sweetness to calm down the fire. Well done. The smoked chicken (despite some gristle pieces in many bites, more annoying than anything), was very well done. Great smoke flavor and small bits, perfect for a taco. The shell was the flour kind and as large as my hand. I ate one with a couple beers, a dozen or so of those pickles and I had leftovers for the next day. Service was outstanding until about 7pm. At that point, our server was off the clock, the place got super busy and service was almost non-existent at that point. I actually had to go to the bar and wait, so we could get our 2nd pint and I did the same to get our bill and pay. Small inconvenience, but we missed our server that we started with, but we still left full and happy. Shout out to my boy, Vince G. for confirming this place was a winner. If you dig checking out locals, The Perky is a must. Right away, you know you're in someone else's dive. Folks at the bar were friendly & quick to chat. One guy in particular seemed like the Mayor of the place!! Had us laughing and shaking our heads all at the same time. We sucked down bloody Mary's & noshed on some bar food. Oaks, PA is the butthole of Pennsylvania and I was stuck there all day while my kid was being judged for the science fair. Wandering around in search of something that was not a horrible chain restaurant, I accidentally walked across the border to Phoenixville and stumbled across The Perky, my new favorite barbecue place. How good is it? Good enough that I've been back twice just to eat lunch there, and I live forty minutes away in Philadelphia. The first time I came I got smoked brisket quesadilla, which was great, because the smoked brisket is great. The meat is tender, smoky, beautifully colored, and flavorful. On my other two visits I got barbecue, including pork ribs and that brisket again. The barbecue comes dry with four sauces on the side: two that are thick and tomatoey, one that is thinner with more vinegar, and one mustard-based one. All are good. (The menu says that they make all the sauces daily.) Barbecue also comes with a side of baked beans. Last year I wrote, in a review of a different restaurant, "I got barbecued beans, which I thought were nothing special (are they ever?)". I have the answer: the Perky's beans are something special. They have a delicious tangy sauce with onions and bits of meat, and last time I came I got two extra orders to take home. I also got takeout chili, which my kid and I thought was excellent. Total cost last time for my barbecue combo, takeout chili, two extra orders of beans, and draft Yuengling, was $27 including tax. I really want to come back and try their sliders. And their wings. My only problem with the Perky is that it's a long drive to Phoenixville, which means I can't drink as much beer as I would like with my barbecue. The service is swift and attentive. They have a full bar and a good selection of beer. (The official address is 400 Brewer Street, but they are also located on Perkiomen Street, which I think explains the name.) read more

I went last night, the wings are typically great but if you see the bartender Cara either try the other bar or leave. She screwed up the wing order, forgot to give us the beer we ordered, was busy flirting with a guy at the bar and mixed up our tab. Every time I have her I'm disappointed. They need to fire her. My burger was very good, as well as my daughters cheesesteak. Went in for lunch on a slow weekday, but the bartender was was handling everybody.so it got off to a slow start. Like I said, the burger was good, but it was a little irritating to be nickel and dimed for all the toppings. They charge for each topping, including cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, etc., .50 apiece. It ended up being a pretty expensive burger/fries, over 15 bucks for a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato only. read more

This place is awesome. Smoked Brisket Cheesesteak is to die for. Mix a little of the sweet and spicy sauce on there (not too spicy) and you're in heaven. Wash it down with a good selection of beer and it's even better. Great and friendly service too. If I didn't live 3000 miles away, I'd get fat on this BBQ. I had the Cowboy Cheesesteak and my companion had the Brisket Cheesesteak. We split them. WOW on both. Cowboy had long hots and more, and was one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had....maybe the best. I do like spicy. The Brisket was also terrific, and the BBQ sauce choices were delicious. Came here on a busy Saturday afternoon, but there were plenty of booths to sit at. There's a decent selection of beers on tap, but nothing outstanding. The food however is amazing! The barbecued pork is the best I've everything experienced. Get the side of beans; the flavors are fantastic and the pork that comes mixed in is so tender and flavorful, that I could be happy with a larger portion as a meal in itself (and I thought I didn't even like pork and beans! ) We just moved to the area and we'll be coming here again and again. read more

This really is a dive bar but known for its BBQ, which is totally legit. The place does get crowded and, if you're not sitting at the bar, service can be spotty. Servers usually are doubling as bartenders so if you're at a table they'll get to you when they get to you. Staff is always friendly, just sometimes a bit too busy. I'd definitely recommend but you'll do yourself a favor if you go at a slower time. read more

Let me start by saying.... I love that The Perky exists. This less than stellar review is simply to get a message to the owner. You've done the work. You've figured out how to put real bbq on the table... and it's pretty damn good. I think you have a heavy hand on your spice jar when it comes to the brisket, but that's just my personal taste. It's you're art, so do what ya do... BUT, you are doing your regular customers a disservice when you lie to them. I live VERY far away. I got some "old" brisket once, so before my next trip to the Perk, I thought it prudent to call and check when the next batch was coming off the smoker. I told the women on the phone that I would arrange my visit to coincide w a fresh brisket day, to which she took offense. "Our brisket is fresh every day!" She said. No it's not. It's not even close to every day. You think your customers don't know the difference? You so underestimate us. Three day old brisket, reheated... is winning you no new fans. You studied how the masters cook their meat, now study how they run their restaurants. It's ok to run out of something great, it's ok if on certain days it's not available. That makes it scarce... that makes your customers behave differently. Folks.... this stuff is pretty damn good if you hit it when it's fresh... if you don't... it's pretty damn below average. And Mr Owner... if it's all just too much of a pain in the ass to deliver "pretty damn good to great" every day, that's your prerogative to... just do us a solid, and train your staff to tell us the truth. "The Perk" isn't on the main road, so I don't think it gets the advantage of being near the Oak shopping center. It's very local (The first time I pulled up, there were people playing shirts and skins horseshoes across the street). The first thing I was surprised about is the interior space. It looks small from outside, but they have two bars, and a good bit of seating. The second thing I didn't expect was the food quality. The chili and tacos I had were quite good, and reasonably priced (the fish tacos being the best for $2). Their beer selection is small, but it hits all the bases. They have different happy hour and evening specials everyday. I'll probably go again for Thursday trivia. read more
