Very mediocre sad experience. My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice place in Davenport and picked The Phoenix. We sat at the bar where the bartender was very inattentive and took 7-8 minutes to make and gather one drink. The food was so pathetic. I ordered a 49 dollar steak for it to have no seasoning and worst than anything I've ever cooked at home. My boyfriend had the blackened chicken pasta. It was just a boiled or grilled chicken breast thrown on some over cooked pasta. The meal wasn't worth 50 and we spent 130 with tax. I don't recommend anyone go and I will never be back. read more

First tried this place in Sept. 2018 using a Groupon, so didn't expect much. Pleasant surprise! All food was tasty and high quality, with lovely presentation, and servings weren't gluttonously huge (which I like). The emphasis is on quality not quantity, so if you're the type to balk at an "itty bitty pretty" amount of quite high quality food for a price of $17+, this place isn't for you. Go to Denny's, Cracker Barrel or Old Country Buffet instead. Son & I went for our birthdays (which are a day apart). He's in his early 20s so I wasn't surprised he ordered a "S'mores Martini" from the extensive martini menu -- a drink I'm sure mostly appeals to the under 30 crowd as well as at least a dozen other martinis. Son liked it but didn't finish it. Don't know why. I had a mixed drink plus the rest of his martini. No watered down drinks here: I was tipsy on just those drinks, even though I ate a salad plus my meal. For safety asked son to drive when we left. That's not happened before. When server learned we were there for our birthdays, she gave us two free desserts of our choice from the cheesecakes menu. So nice! (Consistently excellent service, too.) Because of our Groupon, the price wasn't too bad, but if you go without that, this is a pricey, albeit classy place. We went 5:30 p.m.'ish on a weeknight. Very few people were there. It was filling up a little by the time we left 7 p.m.-ish. They have a piano bar, but no piano player except on Saturday nights. 8~( Considered going on a Friday, hoping he'd be there then, but no such luck. Prices needn't necessarily scare you off. They have specials, happy hours (including happy hour prices all day Monday) and other ways you can sometimes save, so view their website. Reason I didn't give them a 5-star: Piano player there only one night a week. They should have him Fridays too. Why have a nice centerpiece of a piano bar if it's so seldom used? read more

The atmosphere of the place when walking in was fairly impressive. Very cozy and warm. They even have a piano player at times during the week. The service is very friendly! The problem is the food. When paying 20+ dollars a plate, the expectation is set that things will be flavorful and prepared beyond what you can do yourself at home. There lies the problem. The starter bread was hard and dry, and the spreads for it were just...weird. Plain butter would have been better. The coffee and tea were served luke warm...almost cold, and the tea bag brand I noticed you could get at Walmart. The coffee tasted the same. The steak looked like it was beaten with a mallet by someone who had his car recently vandalized and had to release his anger. It's too bad it was still filled with gristle and fat - an extremely poor cut. My stuffed chicken dish was extremely dry - the chicken and wrap we're dry, the cheese's were bland, and the entire dish was an example of how not to cook chicken. I agree with the other reviewer here; no idea what that was that we were given, but it was not Buffalo chicken. We really thought that was a safe choice. Honestly, all the food we ordered smelled or tasted a bit off. Staffing was short at the start of their dinner service so they couldn't be very attentive. It looked like more people were clocking in by the time we left though, so maybe it improved. We can't comment on the drink menu as we had come in just for dinner. read more

Our team from work came to the Phoenix on a Tuesday night to have some time together and eat some good food. The outside of the restaurant was a little surprising because it was dark and not super inviting, but once you stepped inside, it was beautiful and open and just felt like a nice place to have dinner for the night. We had a group of about 12, and were seated around a table that was more square than rectangle. At first, I thought it might be hard to have conversation with those across the table, but it ended up being perfect for conversation and for all of the food. They had a great drinks menu including several martinis. I ordered the cucumber and blueberry martini, and it was fantastic! We ordered a variety of appetizers for the group. They were smaller servings, so definitely perfect for a couple of people. The shrimp skewers were awesome. Our main dishes were also excellent - I heard rave reviews about everything. I ordered the Lemon Salmon with rice and veggies, and had a clean plate when I was done eating. The flavors were good and the serving size was perfect. We stopped into The Phoenix for a drink prior to attending a show at nearby Redstone Room, and it was definitely a great choice! Michael the bartender made it. He introduced himself right away and made great conversation for the duration of our stay. The cocktails were top notch. I ordered a Purple Nerd martini, which should really come with a spoon as I REALLY wanted the Nerds at the bottom of the glass when I was done with my drink! The martini itself was sweet but strong. Meh. Ok food, marginal service, terrible ventilation. Maybe we noticed the smoke that filled the restaurant more because we were seated basically inside the kitchen, next to the back door with the sweatshirts stuffed in the railing. I have no clue why we had to sit there. When we arrived the restaurant was basically empty and there were tables open the entire time we were there. It took 20 minutes to get drinks. We had to ask for bread, we had to ask to hear the specials. When our drinks did arrive, my beer was visibly flat and had to be sent back. My husband's meal was pretty good. Draft beer selection was top notch. Menu was a little big for my taste... usually when the prices are above $20 for an entree I prefer the menu to be a little smaller. Looks like they are stuck between having a high end menu and appealing to the bar food crowd that wants a little of everything, ie- pizza, tacos, pasta, burgers. My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding last year and arrived to Davenport kind of late. We decided to head downtown for a few drinks and stumbled onto this place. We loved it!! It may be because I am from Chicago that $11 martini price doesn't phase me, but I think they're more than worth it. We sat at the bar and were served by a friendly bartender who happily answered any questions and made suggestions for us. I can't remember her name but she was awesome and seemed to be manning the bar almost entirely by herself. I had the Purple Nerd Martini and the White Gummy Bear. My boyfriend had the S'Mors and the Pumpkin Pie... and maybe the Chocolate (the martinis are pretty big so the details are a little fuzzy, haha!). All of them were delicious! We went here with another couple on a Saturday night. We made a reservation and arrived essentially on time. They sat us in the back of a generally nice room. The look of the restaurant is really nice. The open kitchen is always confidence inspiring. However, our waitress was totally flustered and they were out of practically everything. They said it had been unexpectedly busy all day and they ran out of tons of stuff. I guess it happens, but its a Saturday night! They seemed understaffed and didn't clear dishes off any of the tables around us. The entire meal. Actually when they cleared out Applebees-quality first course, they ditched the dishes on the next table over for us to look at for the rest of the night. Our server actually fell up the 2-3 stairs leading to our section with a big crash. We asked if she was okay and she just continued to complain about how busy it was (didn't seem busy to me. I've been a server for 12 years) and acted all stressed and impatient every time she was at our table. The bottle of wine was nice, but all the food we got ranged from just okay to totally unappetizing. I'm not a total food snob or anything, and I don't know what the culinary bar is set at in Iowa, as I was just passing through, but I was really disappointed. My water glass was empty most of the night. I indulged on a Mediterranean pasta dish (a rarity for me), took two bites, and stopped. I just fished out the total of 4 olives and ate those, and skipped the rest. Wish I tried Woodfire next door instead. read more

Stopped by The Phoenix for some early Friday night dinner while in town for business. The bar was hopping but the restaurant was empty-ish. There's a nice upscale feel to the restaurant, and there are some nice architectural touches, like the exposed bring and restored ceilings. Since it was Friday night, my friend and I started out the evening with a $10 martini. Yes - $10. Seems a little steep to me - BUT - it was pretty strong. There were a couple vegetarian options for me on the menu. I started off with a mini greek salad. It was fresh and the olives were really good. For my main meal, I got a pasta primavera dish. It was pretty underwhelming. There weren't many veggies in the dish and the sauce was sort of bland. My coworker really enjoyed her jalapeno burger. It was a little spicier than she expected, but she really liked the way it was seasoned. If I were to be in Davenport again, I'd probably stop by for some drinks and to enjoy the ambiance but might skip the food. Overall a nice place to stop for dinner and a drink, though. read more

The only reason this establishment is getting a 1 is because I cannot give 0! We have been many times & most times have a good experience; however, the last two times we have had by far the most intentional worst service ever! Both times we sat at the bar, and both times the bartender left us sitting with empty glasses up to 15 minutes, excessive wait times for our food, and would come close enough to throw something in the trash look at our empty glasses & plates and completely ignore us. He could however make time to go to the other end of the bar to "hang out" with friends. There was a group of 4 of us that ate here on 1/17/15; there was a party downstairs, a couple of birthday celebrations as well as a guy playing the piano upstairs. I'm not sure if they were understaffed due to all this but the service was really slow, though there were empty tables on the main floor. The food was great. I had the Drunken Port Wine Sirloin and really enjoyed it. Also had a Purple Moscato Martini that was good but it took an extremely long time to get a drink. I ordered a second drink, a beer, when my food arrived and never received it. My biggest complaint was the fact that the kitchen/grille is in the center of the room and the grill smell was very overpowering and clung to our clothes. A lady stopped by a couple times to make sure we enjoyed our food, I assume it was the manager and I always appreciate it when this occurs. The waitress did bring us cheesecake on the house which was really good too. For spending the amount of money we did I was disappointed with the timeliness of the service and the smell. Also, and I'm sure it was a simple mistake, but we were overcharged. What we wrote down on the receipt for the total including tip was less than what showed up on my bank statement. It was only $2 but it was the principle of it that irritated me. Based on the food alone I would rate the place higher but it was everything else that has me giving it a lower rate. read more

Such a fabulous dinner! We had a large group of about 12 people. We made a last minute dinner decision on one of the busiest weekends of the year in Davenport, but The Phoenix was one of the only restaurants to give us a reservation for a Friday night. Beautiful pianist playing who you can hear throughout the restaurant. Wish we sat closer. Bring some cash to tip him and have your song requests ready! Food was delicious. I had the pork chop plate with a sweet bourbon sauce along with mashed potatoes and it was wonderful! I'm not sure if it was the drink, but i got a blackberry mojito. I've gotten mojitos before so I know there are mint leaves in the drink, but the drink was filled with blackberry "stuff" is all I can think to call it. Kept getting in my straw, couldn't drink from the glass because I didn't want the leaves or all the "stuff". Just wanted the actual drink. I drank about a quarter of it before just setting it down and not drinking anymore. I honestly should've taken it back. Aside from the awful drink, the food is too good to not give 5 stars along with our awesome waitress. We will definitely visit again! read more

The only reason this gets two stars and not one is that the food (dinner) was decent and the dessert (cheesecake) was amazing. But it was hands down the worst service I've had in years, anywhere. Dreadful. The waiter claimed to be "new," but they could have hired someone off the street that minute who had more knowledge, ability, and charm... and I say this as someone who has worked as a server and has a lot of empathy for the hard work they do. He did not know if they had beer specials at happy hour. He did not know what they had on tap. He'd never tasted any of the food in the place, and had no recommendations for anything. He forgot many parts of our order, and had to be reminded of things constantly. The restaurant was not at all crowded and yet each part of the order took forever to reach our table - what was essentially a pub food meal (we ordered burgers) and dessert took THREE HOURS to complete. No apologies or comping from the server for the forgotten parts of our meal, no notice from the management that we were there for THREE hours... I will never recommend this place to anyone and I hope they step up their game. read more

Went here for drinks with friends. After waiting for 10 mins without even a hello at the table, went to the bar and got my own. Okay whatever they were moderately busy I will give them a pass. After I had finished my drink waitress finally comes by and asks if we would like anything. I ask for a beer, she gives me what they have on tap and I ask for one. Comes back and tells me they in fact don't have it(much less busy by this time BTW). So I order a different one...whatever... 20 MINUTES later after I have seen her walk by at least 5 times. Comes back to us "did you ever decide on a beer?" Me- " Uh yeah I told you fucking 20 minutes ago" her - omgoodness I am so sorry. Didn't say fucking but I should have. ...Lets pause for a second so I can tell you that the bar is 20 ft away and I have now been here for almost an hr and a half. 10 minutes passes by and I see her pass us by for a third time. Me "excuse me miss, please cancel my beer and get our checks" Let me say I am not high maintenance whatsoever. This is my first review ever but the service was such bullshit I felt I had to do my part to prevent my fellow patrons from making the same mistake I did. This place is bullshit, avoid at all costs. We went on 8/4 and it wasn't very busy since apparently there was a fair that everyone was at. We were passing through Davenport for one night and just picked a place off Apple Maps. Lucky us! We sat at the bar and I wish I had asked the bartender's name because he was fantastic. He made us feel right at home and gave great food and drink recommendations. We got the dinner for 2: 2 drinks, an appetizer, 2 salads, and 2 entrees. We didn't feel rushed at all about deciding on each course, which is nice since it can sometimes take me a while ;) The food was incredible. The bartender was just the right amount of chatty; very friendly and funny but not to the point where you feel like you're forced to converse the whole time you're there, if that makes sense. Very original food for the Quad Cities, and very tasty. Service can be a little slow at times, but it's worth the wait.

We went there recenty for a birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. The food was very good and well presented. The servers were prompt but discreet and not intrusive. It was the first time I had been there and I do believe that it is one of Davenports' finest kept secrets. The only draw back was the dessert list only had cheescake listed. I am sure that once this restaurant is discovered, more items will be listed. Two thumbs up!! read more
