This evening I walked in with hopes of receiving better service, but I have given this establishment one too many chances and should have known better. There was a large group ahead of me in line and only one person working at the counter. I could clearly see at least one other employee in the back, so you would think it would be common sense to have them come up to help serve this large group of 20+ people. The other times I have came here the service has been equally as shameful...long lines, dirty tables, out of staple items, etc. I will not be back. In response to the owner, I stood in line for 5 or so minutes and the employee in the back did not come up to help within that time. The employee in the front did not ask for assistance to serve the large group. I don't mind waiting in line for a quality product, but I'm not going to waste my time when there was no sense of urgency to provide service in a timely manner. During a past visit, a very similar situation happened. Service times were very long and a lady complained to the same employee who I saw working tonight. I'm clearly not the only one who has had an issue here. In the past (not this visit), the tables have been dirty (sticky, napkins left behind, etc.). This is usually not a big deal to me, but I want to emphasize my point that the service isn't the best at this specific location, which is why I will choose another location where I've always gotten great service. read more

When I walked in they have this huge old movie projector that kids just run to wondering what it is, and of course you can't touch it. Its out of place and is a accident waiting to happen. My son whom is 3 tried to run and just figure this out. They need to build an actual structure around this if they are going to make it center attention. My kids had the chicken soup and grilled cheese which was common and nothing special about it. I noticed that there was a lot of dust on the HVAC pipes and I was not close to them. If I could see that they could too, it would look nicer if the place was clean. The parking is really odd as its a quick turn into a forced line parking. I understand that this is the position of the place but its just not easy unless you know exactly when to turn. This has never been my favorite dessert place. I know that's practically blasphemy in Louisville but I'm just like, "eh...... it's okay". That was even my attitude when I was meeting friends at their Highlands location weekly. My son opted to go without dessert tonight. My boyfriend had the Dutch Apple pie warmed up with chocolate ice cream. I had a scoop of Spumoni ice cream. He loved his. Mine was perfectly good except for the disgusting, almost oily film it left in my mouth (it tasted good but felt horrible). For some reason, it just lacks and always has lacked a wow factor for me. I will say that I'm glad they salvaged their cute furniture from the old location. I also must warn you about the sneaky curb. It looks like pull in parking but there is actually a curb between the parking spots and road. It's hard to see at night. Not cool. read more

I have loved every flavor of ice cream I have ever tried and the staff never gets impatient with me and my "sampling". I love being able to walk in and have so many options to choose from. It's really great if you are with other people who might not dig the same desserts as you do! I frequent this location after having a meal at Coal's Pizza often, which is right around the corner. Some of my Pie Kitchen (what I call it for short) favorites include but are not limited to: cookie monster-a cookie sandwich with cake frosting as the center and decorated on the outer cookie to look like a cute monster, iced sugar cookie, smurf ice cream (blue and white deliciousness), italian cream cake, reese's cake, and yellow cake with caramel icing-either in cake slice or cupcake form. However, we were immediately yelled to that they were closed, then we were ignored. I get that they close at 9, but if you're planning on turning people away, at least lock the door. I went to this place in early October shortly after I moved to Louisville. They had excellent pies. We tried the following which were all delicious - Chess, Lemon Chess, Chocolate Chess, Pecan Chocolate Chip, Dutch Apple. I would give this place 5 stars if not for the bad service we got that day. The guy that served us was not very pleasant, looked so serious like he was working at a funeral home, didn't talk or make any suggestions and was almost patronizing. That ruined our experience and made me wonder if I should ever go back. Thankfully, I went to the Frankfort Avenue location and the guy's service at that location was so good it redeemed the chain. Location is great - lots of places to sit-down including a kid-sized old fashioned table, which my 2-year-old adored. Ice cream, cookies, cheesecake, pies, OH MY! This location is okay. It's generally a good experience. I have a bone to pick with the consistency. Many a time, I've sent my husband out to get a slice of my favorite (Chocolate Meringue), and it's come back with the pudding part completely inedible. There were 'bubbles'? I don't know. But it wasn't the smooth consistency of chocolate pudding that it should be. Sometimes they let a last piece of pie sit in the case and get stale- then you get a piece (because they sell it) that has air-hardened edges, yuck. This location is run by teenagers. So sometimes, you get a complete deformed piece of pie do to the person not being able to get it out perfectly, so they just slosh it in the box- I guess they figure if it's "to go", you won't notice, or it won't matter because you won't be there when you eat it. In the summer, the place is so crowded, the line goes to the doors practically. One day I saw a middle-aged woman, I guess she was eager to avoid the line, STEAL a box of Valentine's cookies off a promotional table. I was appalled. I guess I would say I've had better overall experiences at the original Pie Kitchen at Bardstown Road and Taylorsville. read more

But the Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen was open to make the cake fresh. Now I had been to "the pie kitchen" several times for ice cream, but wasn't all that impressed with the pie I had years ago, so I thought ordering a Birthday Cake there was a risk.
