Reviews are mixed for this place, but I had a great experience. The portions were generous and the pork was amazing. The banana pudding was particularly great. My family has been eating at this restaurant for a couple of years now and have always had polite waitresses. We had dinner there a few nights ago and the waitress was rude to my kids. They weren't being rude or anything but she just looked at them with this annoyed face every time she came to the table. The next table over had kids and she was bubbly and polite to them. If you read between the lines you can guess the difference between my kids and the other kids...I hope we never have that waitress again. read more

Went for lunch today on a work trip. We ordered; fried oysters, fried squash both appetizers. For lunch one of us had turkey salad and the other had the turkey lunch. Let me start by saying our server was sweet and wonderful. That was the only good thing about this place. The oysters were fried in a batter with no seasoning whatsoever. They tasted like straight up ocean. The squash was so greasy the oil literally poured out into the plate. Then for the lunches. The turkey was literally LUNCH MEAT warmed on the grill. And cheap lunch meat at that. The sides were flavorless. I figured a bbq place in a little town would offer some real bbq. If th owner sees this, please step it up. It was truly horrible. read more

Typically the food is great and service is excellent. This time we went to breakfast and the eggs were over easy instead of over medium, the hash browns were over cooked (like burned on top), and the toast was burned. It wasn't too busy so I was surprised, they're usually really good for breakfast. Maybe it was just an off day. read more

I'm not sure why I keep coming back here. Food is less than desirable., serving is mediocre at best, our server was acting as though our presence was bothersome to her. We looked at a Plantation Venue around the corner. We were hungry and decided to get some BBQ. We were a party of four. We ordered our drinks and we were ready to order. The menu was a little confusing, but the Waitress explained the menu to us. We all enjoyed our meals. My pork sandwich could of had a little bit more Smokey flavor. The mustard based sauce was probably homemade and very runny. I liked the red bbq sauce. Plenty of parking outside. The place was big and spacious. They were full of patrons tonight. We usually go to Callahan BBQ, but they closed at 4:00 pm today. So, we came here. I could not eat my banana pudding, so we took it home. Pros: friendly staff. The place looked clean. I was so excited when my friend said we were going to the Pig BBQ as I've stopped at the location off 95 in Ormond Beach several times. However, this location did not meet my expectations. I'll start with the positive. I tried my friends appetizers of fried mushrooms and fried okra. Both were hot and delicious! I loved the macaroni and cheese, so creamy and flavorful, and banana pudding was yummy! But we had a few issues. First, our server was new and walked out halfway through our service. She was nice but she left us wondering what happened. You can purchase a regular size platter or large. I chose large because I wanted leftovers so I would have enough for another meal. When my food came out my portion size was the same as my friends who ordered the regular size. I requested not to be charged the extra $2. The manager did accommodate my request which I appreciated. I ordered the pork barbecue sandwich. I didn't want the bread and while taking the bread off I found a greasy hair on the plate. I took all of the sides off the plate and requested a fresh serving of meat. The manager assisted and brought me a new serving. The barbecue was okay but tasted better after adding the mustard sauce. I am not one of those people that complain about every meal I eat out. But on this particular night I was the complainer at the table for good reason;) This is not a location I plan to ever visit again. read more

Ok, we're in the south, so we have to review BBQ. we've driven past this place a lot and never stopped, which I now regret... greatly. the outside appearance screams "humble," as does the dining room, which was remarkably clean for after a "normal" dimmertime rush. the flow of customers was also very steady for a small town, and the service was remarkably fast. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. The star of the show was the food, duh. Pulled pork and turkey were the main entree, and I was not disappointed one bit. I cannot say enough bad about this location. The service is terrible. The food is worse. Right across the street is Callahan BBQ aka The Chicken House. I have seen so many bad reviews that I don't think I need to add more about cold food, burnt ribs, bad service or filthy housekeeping. Was very surprised in a good way at how cheap the lunch special was and how good and fast the service was. Ambiance is alright, definitely a laid back bbq feel to it. Food: - Pork Sandwich: 2.5/5: Pork is very moist but there wasn't any seasoning on it. But once you add The Pig bbq sauces, it comes up to a 4/5. -Fried Chicken: 4/5: Moist, fried, and seasoned well. Solid fried chicken. -Hushpuppies: 3.5/5: Savory seasoning, all 3 of my hushpuppies were of different 'doneness'. But overall solid flavor. -Banana Pudding: 5/5: Really good pudding with the nilla wafers it. -Peach Cobbler: 10/5: IF YOU LIKE PEACH COBBLER, YOU MUST GET THIS!!! Worth the pit stop for me at The Pig! Headed to Georgia noticed the pig restaurant on the way, did a quick tool into the parking lot lots of cars drew me in. Ordered the pig barbecue sandwich beef with coleslaw beans and the pig sauce fantastic! Beef very tender, sauce reminded me of a chimichurri sauce. Coleslaw super fresh and crisp on the sweet side and the baked beans weee perfect, could taste the vinegar and the spices but not overwhelming; flavorful lunch! Very busy spot but the server at the register was fast and friendly! Didn't come with plastic utensils and napkin but i forgot to ask. The Pig has been around what seems like forever, I grew up on their BBQ. I love their ribs and Pig Pork sandwich. Oh, their coke slaw is a favorite, we get a pint to go to have as a side dish with meals at home. Our service has always been great and they keep the place tidy. read more

I haven't been here for breakfast in quite sometime for no reason other than not having the opportunity. It had always been a good and quick place for breakfast. This morning my wife and I stopped in at 8 a.m. We sat down and a waitress came over with menus and we ordered two cups of coffee as we looked over the menus. The waitress two mugs filled with coffee. Mine cup was dirty (lipstick on the rim). After I pointed it out the waitress brought me another cup. My wife had two over easy eggs, grits, sausage patty and toast. I had a pancake, one over easy egg and a sausage patty. All our eggs were cooked perfectly, the grits were not creamy, but thick and still good. The pancake was good, tender and fluffy. Both of our sausage patties were dry and over cooked. When I drank about a third of my coffee, I noticed that this mug was also dirty. It had stuck on food on the inside. I notified the waitress and she offered to bring me another cup of which I declined. When it came time to pay the bill, I took the ticket to the front counter. The cashier rang up the meals and asked what we had to drink. I told her we both had coffee, but I had sent mine back twice because of the dirty cups. She added both cups to the bill and gave me the total. At this point I needed to get to a doctor's appointment and didn't have time to debate the issue. I added 20% to the total for a tip, as the service was good. Our waitress was busy but she was friendly and attentive. I'll give them another shot for breakfast, in the future, but they definitely need to work on making sure their customers are served with clean cups and make sure the cashier knows to not charge someone for the coffee when told they sent it back. read more

I've tried to place to go orders several times over the past few months. Each time there is an unreasonable amount of Time on hold. I called today to place an order around 3:00 pm. And it took 12 rings on the second try for a girl to answer. She was talking to someone else while talking with me on the phone, which is distracting. She said what do you need? I replied a small to go order, and she said hold on. I waited on hold for 9 minutes and finally gave up. During this entire call, I was parked in front of the business. There was 1 car in the drive-through and 1 car parked out front. Considering the volume of business they do, they should be better prepared to handle minimal business. This staffing issue brought on by COVID has about run it's course. There is a world of difference depending on what time of day you eat at this restaurant. The day shift is busy, polite, friendly and accommodating. The evening shift is not personable, friendly or checking on their tables regularly. Very big disappointment. read more

I called in and order for pick up, and when I got home I noticed that the sides are in the smallest container I've ever seen pretty much the same container their sauces come in. I called the restaurant thinking it was a mistake but no they apparently ran out of their containers and decided that for your money you get a spoon full of Mac n cheese and baked beans. I am an out of towner in Callahan for business! When I walked out of my appointment, I smelled that great barbecue from the The Pig. I looked in yelp and found a very low rating. I just said to myself, let me see for myself and boy was I pleasantly surprised how amazing the food was! I had the pork sandwich with green beans and cole slaw. The Bar-B-Q sauce was over the top amazing. I would have opened the bottle and bath in it! All kidding aside, I would hope all the locals appreciate a great barbecue restaurant and patronize then. Ok what is with the lighting? No matter where you sit, it's like having high beams in your eyes the whole time. It's bad enough that at times we go somewhere else so not to have to deal with it. I like the food, the prices are reasonable, the staff are awesome, but that lighting! WHAT were they THINKING?!? The whole front of the restaurant has windows and they keep the blinds down. Is the Pig the most "woke" or latest zippy technique Q? Of course not, but it IS a family owned BBQ with requisite Southern sweet tea and home-made cole slaw. Order the (steak style) fries "extra crispy" and be glad you did. Service is always Southern, fast, attentive and friendly Ribs, chopped pork and chicken are great, with the ribs being better on certain nights. Fried chicken on the Sunday buffet is truly special. Anytime/ anywhere, the Rib Plate is pound for pound THE BOSS. The restaurant business is very tough and it's great to see that The Pig is still slinging awesome, strait forward "Old School" Jacksonville Q - period. read more

But then we had to move to a different section because they were having a special function that was scheduled at the table were at. There was no sign to let you know this. The food is bland. All the food. Onion rings, green beans, Lima beans, ribs, beef, sirloin, fries, and shrimp. The mustard sauce and bar-b-que sauce were watered down. The service is very mediocre. The waitress can't recommend anything. She just says "everything is good." Uh no ma'am it isn't! She didn't even bother to bring the three sides of fries until after we were finished eating and getting up to pay the check. While in line to pay the staff pulls people from out of line to jump ahead of you to pay. We will never return to this restaurant. There are plenty of other choices in Callahan to choose from. We Went to the pig this morning for breakfast. They were seven adults and two high chairs. Kenny went in first to get us a table. And I came in I stopped at the entrance to the seating area there where 2 waitresses were standing there looking over the 1/2 wall at the tables, they were discussing about where to sit someone not knowing that I was with Kenny. One waitress said I'm not taking them.... The other one said well I'm not taking them ether the first waitress said but you just came in and don't have any customers yet so you should take them... meanwhile Kenny already put 2 table's together for us to sit... I said too late we have a seat.. Just then a waitress named Melissa came over to them and said I'll take care of them. I told everyone at the table about it let's just say they where all upset over this. I told Melissa what I heard and told her to tell those 2 to keep there voice down because I heard everything they said. If it wasn't for Melissa we would have left. Thank You Melissa .... Okay....I grew up by the Lem Turner location, the last time I had any of their BBQ was at the Old St Augustine location and it wasn't "all that" however, I don't recall ever having been to any locations for breakfast and my visit to this location was just for that. After we seated ourselves, our server was pretty quick to arrive with menus and returned pretty quick with 2 cups of coffee....that was surprisingly good! I ordered the "traditional"....2 eggs (scrambled), 2 sausage links, grits and toast. I gotta say, it was spot on! The eggs was more like 3 and cooked perfectly. The sausage and toast were cooked just the way I like and the grits were smooth with no lumps. Everything was hot like it was cooked to order. The Mrs had no complaints about her meal. This location is a little out of our way, but if we're in the area again and ready for breakfast, we'll be stopping in. read more

Well, I had high hopes. The waitress was not friendly or helpful. She seemed impatient and didn't care to offer any direction as to what's good, or anything for that matter. It took about 25 minutes for our lunch. I ordered a 2 meat combo, sausage and beef. My wife ordered a 3 veggie plate. Honestly, the only thing that was half decent was the lemonade I had ordered and the sausage. The mashed potatoes were Sysco powder (probably) with no butter, salt, pepper or chicken stock. Just powdered potato and water. The green beans were right out of a #10 can also. The Mac and cheese was possibly homemade but still kinda like hospital food quality. Then there was the "beef" well this was awful. It was as if they they had thickly sliced deli roast beef, then floated it in a hotel pan full of water to keep it moist. The problem is, the water washed away any trace of seasoning and boiled the heck out of the meat. I couldn't believe that this was a "bbq" there was zero smoke flavor. I took a fork full without sauce just to see how the meat tasted, I almost spit it out. It was watery chips of over cooked meat without even a salty flavor. Just terrible- oh, on a final note. The portions were really small. Half full monkey dish, like 2.5 tablespoons worth of Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. So, no- for $24 I'd rather have gone to Taco Bell.
