Willie's BBQ has a good BBQ atmosphere when you first walk in, and the menu has a nice selection with plenty of options. That said, the restaurant could definitely use a good deep cleaning. We noticed cobwebs up around the windows and among some of the decorative areas after we ordered and sat down. All the bread products (in plastic bags on trays) were in the hallway just outside bathrooms. I noticed after we ate and was leaving. My daughter ordered the 2-meat plate with pulled pork and brisket. She asked for a baked potato as one of her sides even though it wasn't listed as an option, and they had no problem accommodating her. The baked potato was a good size. She also had mac and cheese and chose the garlic toast instead of cornbread. She felt the mac and cheese was a little too runny and overly cheesy, and the garlic toast was nothing special. The brisket and pulled pork were okay, but neither had much flavor on their own and definitely needed BBQ sauce. I ordered the 3-meat plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, along with French fries and a baked potato. The portions were generous, and the fries were hot and salty just how I like them. Unfortunately, the cornbread was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Like my daughter's meal, all three meats were plentiful but lacked seasoning or smoky BBQ flavor and really needed sauce. They had four BBQ sauce choices available, but none really stood out to me. If I went back, I'd probably bring my own favorite BBQ sauce. Our total was around $50 for the two of us, including two fountain drinks, so roughly $25 per person. Overall, the portions were very good and the menu offered plenty of choices, but for a BBQ restaurant, I expected the meat itself to have a lot more flavor without having to rely so heavily on the sauce. read more

Service is awful. I wanted to place a catering order. Several times I was asked to call back. The third time I said I keep calling and you won't take my order. I was told they would call me in an hour. Three hours later, no call back. I tried again and they hung up when I called. I thought it may have been a mistake so I called a few more times. They kept hanging up !!! The online ordering does not allow me to place an order but now I will take my business elsewhere. I got the two meat platter with turkey and beef brisket. The meat was absolutely delicious and the brisket was so tender! For my sides, I got baked beans and collard greens, both of them were delicious. This was a good find for barbecue. read more

I don't know that I've ever been served "hot" food. It's Always lukewarm. Corn nuggets are good. Grape juice lemonade is really good. Brunswick stew is NEVER hot. They don't serve you. They just yell out when your food is ready and drinks are self serve. read more

Willie Jewell's is standard barbecue---there is nothing outstanding about it but it is tasty. My husband had smoked sausage and a side of collards. I had the beef brisket platter with green beans and fried pickles. The collards were good--a bit too sweet for our tastes. The green beans were seasoned well and fried pickles were crispy. The vegetables are all out of a can but good. The sausage was standard and the brisket was moist but needed sauce. The young woman at the entrance that took our order was rude, but the young woman that served us was pleasant and checked on us while we ate. Our meals (we had water to drink) cost $40 with tax and tip. If you are hungry for barbecue this is a good place to go and it is child friendly as well. read more

Came across this "jewel" on a trip to Amelia Island. It kept coming up on Yelp with good reviews so we gave it a shot. So glad we did! The ambiance and decor was casual, country chic with innovative lap fixtures. Staff was super friendly and patient with first-timer questions. I had the Slawpy Stacker - pork and coleslaw on two toasty buns. Pork wasn't greasy at all, plentiful and Cole slaw was the perfect counter. Bread was soft and toasty. I chose Brunswick stew for the side and it was perfectly made with tons of veggies, meat and a sauce with a peppery kick but not spicy. Their potato salad was made with red potatoes, red onions and creamy base like mom use to make. I am not a big lemonade fan, but the grape lemonade they're "famous" for was worth it! This is a solid place for BBQ. It's better than the other chains like Sonny's BBQ. I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and sweet tea. For the sandwich, you can choose garlic toast or regular bun. I picked the garlic toast, thinking it would be like Texas toast but it wasn't as "garlic-y". This is a solid BBQ restaurant. Apparently its part of a chain but it was still pretty darn good. I had the 2 meat combo and the beef was outstanding, nice and lean but not too dry at all. I'd pass on the turkey though, it was pretty dry. For a side I had the Brunswick stew which was awesome and it comes with your choice of bread, go with the cornbread, it also was delicious. Prices are reasonable and we had it to go but the place looks pretty authentic bbq if you know what I mean. The counter service was great, friendly young lady, very efficient! Cute little restaurant on the end of a small strip mall. Easy to miss if you aren't careful! Was greeted by a very nice gentleman who took my order. I got a discount for paying cash. I sat at the bar. I ordered the brisket platter with a side of hush puppies and Mac n cheese and an iced tea to drink. The girl who delivered my food told me there was a bbq sauce table with different flavors. She actually brought me a cup of each sauce. The flavor of all the sauces was very good. The sweet and sassy was my favorite. The brisket was cooked to perfection! The Mac n cheese was good as were the hush puppies. The servings were plentiful as I ended up bringing half my order home for leftovers. Everyone I encountered was very happy and friendly and checked on me often. The food is OK here. In fact they have the best greens I have tasted. They are out of things very often, pulled pork, baked potatoes and a variety of other things. They are ALWAYS hiring. I thought this was strange but in the world we live in this is pretty common. I see a lot of turnover but restaurants often do. Tonight we found out why. We walked in to find a man at the register. As we tried to order, the man would cut us off mid sentence like he was irritated that we were there. As we were eating he began yelling at the staff so loud that we could hear him out in the dining room. I asked an employee if he was the manager. She snarled her face and said no, his name is Paul and he is the owner. If he doesn't want to be there maybe he should pay someone to manage the place for him. If he wants to be there maybe he should treat his customers, and more importantly his employees with some dignity. There is a saying that people don't quit bad jobs, they quit bad managers. My husband and I both ordered ribs which were okay, though they were served barely warm. They are not cooked in a sauce, though they offer a nice selection of sauces that we can apply ourselves; however, the sauces are not warm either. So essentially we ate room temperature ribs, which I did not particularly enjoy. The restaurant itself was clean and had a rustic charm that was appropriate for this type of food.
