The service was fine and regardless of how bad I say the food was and it was horrible, the on duty manager did comp the meal and I am appreciative of that although not expecting that it would be comped. If anyone tells me those beans were not straight out of a can they should be checked. Bush's Baked Beans from a can would be disrespected if they got mistaken for these beans. The other side was greens. The positive, they were green. They were flavorless, dry and cold. Now let me get to the pulled pork sandwich. It literally should have been called the greasiest puddle of pork sandwich. The sandwich was so greasy that I thought the juice from the greens had flowed over the edge of the box and into the side where the sandwich sat. But no, I could not have been that lucky. The bbq sauce they have is also again and you guessed it flavorless. I can eat a flavorless meal. I can eat a cold meal. It came with two sides as well. I also like to try bbq place's Mac and cheese, and my mom wanted fries. The highlight of our order was the Mac and cheese. It had sharper cheese and had a good amount of creamy sauce. Runner up was the pulled pork. Everything else wasn't very good. The brisket was very tough and not seasoned well, the chicken was mealy, and the fries were nicely cooked but little to no salt. My wife and I love this place. This is our go-to spot whenever we come to Liberty Station. The bbq is phenomenal. We always get their pulled pork, but it sells our fast! So sometimes we get here late, and it's gone. We loved their pulled pork nachos.. but they no longer have it.. sad day.. so instead, we tried their family of 2 meal deal. It came with 6oz or chicken, brisket, and pulled pork (no pulled pork, so we got more chicken and brisket). 2 sides, tortillas and pickled onion, and jalapeños. All for about $32. We were definitely satisfied and had more to take home! The bbq sauce is super tasty, a little tangy, and a little sweet. It works very well with the meat. We also got fries and baked beans for the side. Fries came piping hot, and the beans were great. They were a little spicy and had a little bit of jalapeños in it. This place was one of the most below mediocre spot in Liberty Market, and I came hungry. Service was prompt however. There were only a few customers on a busy day. You buy your food to-go and bring it to one of the many tables around the market. I ordered the two meat combo (brisket and chicken). For being smoked so long, both meats were incredibly dry and were barely helped by the barbecue sauce spread on top. The Mac and cheese and potato salad were nothing special either. I would be ashamed to recommend this spot to any of my friends coming into town. Would definitely not recommend this place. Their menu is not complicated. We got the combo plate with the choice of brisket and sausage. My spouse and I shared, good for 2 people. Food- brisket is tender and juicy, on the salty side. BBQ flavor is not bad. Sausage I think is the highlight better than the brisket. Beans is also good. Potato salad is my least favorite, if there's a splash of vinegar in it ( it was a little too much) it became rancid. Price is high. After we ate we walked around Liberty Park which is easy to see was a military base back when things were built to last. its a cool place to visit. Very California. Lots of beads and art and hippy stuff. All in all Pigs Gig is a great place to eat and Liberty Park is a nice place to visit. Ones small side note if you are going to sut outside to eat the close proximity to the San Diego Air port means your conversation will be interrupted by lo flying passenger jets every 5 minutes. On the side, I had a small serving of their delicious bourbon baked beans. Both meats were very tender, and I was most impressed on how tender and juicy the turkey breast was. The trip tip had very nice color on the outside and texture. The meat was quite flavorful and offered a subtle smokiness. The bourbon baked beans were terrific. During the baking process, they sit under the tri tip as it's being smoked, so the beans pick up the meat's natural juices and bits meat here are there. There's a lot of love in those beans. Great idea indeed and great flavor. They use a premade guacamole which was okay. I would like to see them make their own some day or at the very least, purchase a pre smashed variety, but then add their own ingredients. read more

The Pig's Gig is a new BBQ vendor inside the Mess Hall of Liberty Public Market. The menu featured sandwiches, tacos and plates of tri-tip, pulled pork, turkey breast and smoked cauliflower. House hot link and baby back ribs were also available as plates too. The sides were bourbon baked beans, crunchy vinegar slaw, scratch potato salad and creamy mac-n-cheese. I ordered a two meat combo plate ($16.95) which came with two sides. My selections were the tri-tip, pulled pork, baked beans and potato salad. The tri-tip was the star of the bunch as the meat was very tender and juicy. It reminded me of cuts of hot roast beef. The baked beans had a kick to them so beware of their spiciness if you get this item. You could also order any of the meats a la carte if you didn't want sides for your meal. For the meat quantity of 1/4 lb each, the price was probably $1 to $2 higher than I have seen elsewhere. Overall, I gave this spot between 3.5 and 4 stars. read more

I got the Loaded Mac & Cheese $12.95 which has pulled pork, house hot link, house BBQ sauce, crushed Fritos,green onions.
