I asked the guy in charge about the bbq ribs and he said they were applewood smoked.  I gave them a try.  They came with a ton of sauce.  Ribs were dry and didn't have much flavor.  Texture and flavor were much like oven baked ribs I've had.  Bbq sauce was sweet and had a smoky flavor.  Good sauce. 2nd visit I tried the wings with Texas bbq sauce on the side.  Skin was crispy while the chicken was tender and juicy.  I loved the fried chicken flavor and the sauce added sweet, tangy, and slightly smoky flavors. 5 wings made for a light lunch. Guy in charge was nice and efficient.  Place has a nice view of the street.  I love the wings but I prefer the ribs down the street at BBQ House Bar & Grill. read more

Wings Army is a great addition to OB and worth checking out if you're craving wings after a day at the beach. The restaurant is on the smaller side with just a handful of tables, but it's a fun, casual spot for wings and a beer. Out of everything we tried, the lemon pepper wings were my favorite. The onion rings were super crispy, exactly how I like them. The corn ribs were unique and fun to try, and the Munchies Fries were loaded with crispy chicken tenders on top, making them easy to share. The BBQ pork ribs were a miss for me, they were on the dry side. The only other miss was the mac & cheese; it could've been cheesier, and the pasta was a little too al dente. Their desserts were a big surprise. The brownie with ice cream and the funnel cake fries (we got the caramel dipping sauce) were both delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. After significant delays, Wing's Army debuted several months ago in a corner suite of the OB neighborhood that used to house a Starbucks. Although not evident by its name or military-themed decor, this was actually a Mexican-based chain restaurant with hundreds of locations south of the border. This shop was the second one in the US and the first in California. A paid parking lot was available directly to the east of the building if you didn't want to hunt for an open curbside space. A bar was to the right when you walked in. Opposite that were two self-service tablets where you could place an order for dine-in or takeout. There was a small dining area with about half a dozen tables. I arrived late in the evening not long before closing time. Using a tablet, I scrolled through the menu quickly. Besides wings and tenders, there were appetizers, fries, burgers, sandwiches, a hot dog, ribs, and desserts. Nearly 20 different sauces were available for the chicken products. My first selection was three pieces of Chicken Tenders with sweet chili sauce. They came in a plastic sealed bag which I had not seen before as a takeout container. The kitchen was generous and added two extra pieces for a total of five. They weren't the largest size for tenders, but I did like that restraint was shown with the amount of sauce applied. The flavor was definitely sweet with no spiciness. The second choice was a Brisket Hot Dog which was a smoked all-beef brisket sausage served on a hoagie roll. Cups of smoked BBQ sauce and classic mustard were provided on the side. The grilled frank was average in length, but somehow cost nearly $10. I didn't use any BBQ sauce, however I did spread some of the yellow mustard that provided a tangy contrast to the hot dog. For the price and quality of my takeout food, I gave a 3.5 star rating for Wing's Army. read more

Absolutely delicious food! I honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. We tried a variety of boneless and bone-in wings with different sauces to get a good feel of this new wing spot in ocean beach. There wasn't a single flavor or combo that we didn't enjoy. The corn ribs are a must try! Packed with flavor and perfectly crunchy. Finished our meal with the funnel cake fries with caramel sauce. Our service was incredibly friendly and told us everything on the menu and the recommendation. The food was exceptional. My boyfriend had the sweet chili which was 3/4 levels of spice. He said it wasn't incredibly spicy but there was a small kick. The boneless wings were extremely crispy and the fries were so good! I definitely recommend checking out it was worth the hype! What. A. Joke. The boneless chicken was on par with the frozen bagged stuff I get from Costco. Difference is, here it took 45 minutes to come out. The meal was very expensive and it wasn't even worth eating even if it was free. On top of that, they brought out my gf's chicken, didn't bring the carrots and celery she ordered, then my French fries, didn't bring my chicken, watched them bring carrots and celery and chicken to tables that came after us, and only after I went and asked where our food was (they blamed it on the kitchen only having one cook, yet other people were served that got there after us) did they finally bring our food. They did bring us out free corn ribs and I will say those were pretty delicious. Not worth the hassle though. Sucks because this place took forever to open. read more

We checked out a new chicken spot in OB and had such a great experience. The guys working there were super friendly, and the wings were honestly delicious. We tried the buffalo and Sonora spicy sauces both were really good. All sauces including ranch were made in house! They also have an awesome happy hour, with drinks at just $3 each and a solid selection to choose from. We finally stopped in to try the wings after passing by it so many times coming back from South Beach. We met Angel the owner who was very friendly and proud of the wings served here. We came on Sunday late in the afternoon. There was a table of 3 and 2 guys sitting at the bar. We ordered the 10 pc boneless wings (5x Lemon Pepper and 5x Cajun) Army Combo which came with fries and a drink. The nuggets were tasty however one or two of the boneless wings was all batter and barely any chicken in them...so that was a disappointment. Fries were good....reminiscent of McDonalds which I love. The homemade ranch was good and unique. The Army Combo was unfortunately not a whole lot of food for the 2 of us so we went back and ordered the corn ribs and 5x Buffalo and 5x Honey Sriracha bone-in wings. Oddly the boneLESS wings were cheaper than the bone-in wings. There was no heat to the Buffalo ones but the Honey Sriracha ones were good. The corn ribs were amazing though....very good....sweet, crunchy, tangy all happening at once. Overall, the wings were good but a bit on the pricey side. I've been waiting for this place to open for a while now and my boyfriend and I finally had a chance to go try it out. Friendly vibe whe we walked in we ordered at "meal for 2" 15 wings and a small fries and two small drinks. And a small onion rings on the side. $50. The small onion rings included literally 5 onion rings. The fries are bland and nothing special and the wings are just mid. To top it all off they said 20 minutes for our order, not bad. Except once I realized our food was done in 10 minutes but they decided to take another 10 minutes to just record our food, sticking it in and out of their pick up window multiple and walk g it all around the store.
