Waitress was very rude and seemed to be in a rush. Hit her head on flower pot, said an expletive.

And that's where it pretty much ended for me. We were greeted by 2 individuals prior to being sat. Once we were sat I was told I couldn't have any outside drinks. I was carrying a hot tea in a paper cup when we walked in. No one else mentioned this. I later read a posting in the bathroom about outside drinks being prohibited. Seemed like it was mostly to prevent outside alcohol but was a blanket statement for all drinks. I thought it was odd I had to take my hot tea back to my car. Besides that the waitress wasn't super warm and friendly either. If I remember correctly she started with, "what are you drinking?" After I had to walk my tea to our parked vehicle. The food was mid. Very very mid. I got a salmon savory crepe. The salmon was dry, almost white in color and just seemed old. The crepe itself was chewy and hard to cut. My husband's wrap was decent. Kids plates were also decent. I liked that you "created" their plate from 3 categories or options. Overpriced for quality and portion. Once our food arrived there was a swarm of gnats that came with it. Our table was wobbly so cutting any food shook the entire surface. Our toddler caught on to this and wanted to rock the table the whole time. So between holding the table, trying to cut food and swatting gnats away.. it just wasn't a good experience all together. I'm confident there are better options in town for us to try when we return.

Service was a 10+! Danielle was excellent and Matt checked on us during our dinner. The food was outstanding. We had the Lollipop lamb for an appetizer, omg they were the BEST lamb pops I have ever had. We ate half so we could snack on them the next day in our car ride to PA. Just finished them off and again, we were delighted how delicious they were cold the next day. I need to comment on the bread also. My husband doesn't even eat or like bread. He had a piece of bread last night and said it was the best bread he had ever had. And where on heavens earth did that butter come from?? I think I could just eat that by the spoonful. Best butter ever!! He had the sirloin steak with the mushrooms and it was very good. I had a filet and it was tender and perfectly cooked. We ordered the mushroom risotto and it was delicious. The table next to us had lobster mac n cheese and i had been torn between those two. The mac n cheese looked amazing too. Loved the risotto, not over or undercooked, creamy and delicious. Almost tasted like some truffle oil could have been in there but maybe that was just the mushrooms. I had the old fashioned and it was smoked and delicious! We each had a glass of Earthquake cabernet also. There was only 1 wine per wine type that you could order by the glass. More choices of wines by the glass would have been nice, but it was a nice glass of wine. I really need to know what kind of butter was that?? Wow! Excellent meal and service! Thank you Oglebay Resort! Trace Chophouse is definitely tops!

It's a food truck setup, so you do have to go outside to order, but I loved the food truck scene back in Cali so this was part of the experience. I ordered some perogies and my friend did the black and gold Mac. Big big portions for a decent price. Some things are expensive but you absolutely get your money's worth. Most importantly, they have an option on the menu called "Pay It Forward," and it's exactly as it sounds. You pay for a meal for someone less fortunate. My past has several moments where I could have used this, and being that (for once) I have a tiny bit of financial stability, I was more than happy to support this mission. Good food and social conscience? That's a tasty meal.

The food is really good at this little restaurant. Elle & Jack's leans toward Italian cuisine, but it gets a little funky with it by offering things like chimichurri salmon, a burger and steak frites. The menu is small, though, which is a relief. A pared down menu is my favorite kind of menu. Give me a small list of the things you make well, and I'll be happy. We got the arancini as an appetizer, of course. My kids had never had arancini before, and they loved them. But it's hard not to love a fried ball of rice covered in red sauce! I got the steak Caesar, because I do love a good Caesar salad. At this point in my life, I'm pretty much obligated to order the Caesar if it's on a menu. The girl can't help it. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium well), and the only thing I would change would be to make the croutons smaller. We also got a side of charred Brussel sprouts with bacon and dates. These were good but needed to be a little more charred! In my opinion, Brussels sprouts taste best when they're scorched. A side order is huge and meant to be shared. It could have easily been shared with three or four people. Elle & Jack's does not have an official kids' menu printed on a paper, but they have an unofficial kids' menu, which apparently lives in each server's head and can only be shared verbally. It's like five or six items. From what I remember -- because our server's words floated away from me like dandelion seeds in the wind as soon as he spoke them -- kids can choose from pasta with red sauce, buttered noodles, a grilled cheese and a cheeseburger. One of my kids got pasta with red sauce, and it was a perfect portion size for a child. My child liked it but said that the noodles were too chewy (they were probably cooked al dente). My other kid got a grilled cheese, and he liked it just fine. The kids' grilled cheese comes with fries. The scene here is slightly upscale but casual. I saw people who were dressed up and people who were not dressed up. I think it's definitely a come-as-you-are joint, but a place to visit when you want something a little more elevated.
