We recently had a potluck and ordered the pork ribs and brisket from The Pit, and baby... let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint! They delivered for a small fee, and the delivery lady was so sweet and helpful. She even carried everything inside for us. I couldn't wait to open those foil pans--and when I did, the brisket was beautifully arranged with pickled onions and pickles. The presentation alone was impressive! But the taste? AMAZING! The brisket had that wonderful smoky flavor, and it was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. My husband could not stop talking about the ribs! And our guests absolutely devoured the meat. Everyone kept asking, "Where did you get this?" and wanted to know where they could order it themselves. Needless to say, we will definitely be returning customers--and bringing others with us! We ordered Platter: 2 1/4th of Brisket, 1/4 of tri tip, some buttery buns, CORN BREAD COOKIES, Mac N Cheese w/ bacon bits, yummy DILL pickles, and pickled onion and yummy sauce. It was delicious I definitely reccomend the brisket. The worker was very nice and accommodating. He was very kind and helped us through our order. It's kinda hot inside (also because it's summer and they're cooking the good stuff) but I wish it was a little cooler, manageable though. These are really nice people and I wish them the best but I just don't think they are trying hard enough. I hope they start thinking about flavors and ways to stand out. If this is considered good BBQ in Southern California then I feen sorry for you all. Their baked bean are Bushes Baked Beans straight from the can. The potato salad is just OK. I could smell smoke at there establishment but I couldn't taste it in the meat. The 4 stars are for how nice they were and because I felt bad that I couldn't give them a better written review. While on jury duty, I sought out this barbecue restaurant. Which was Iincredibly difficult to find. I honestly had to drive through several - what appeared to be trucking businesses to finally find this very small hidden BBQ restaurant. There was one table out front which was occupied by an employee. Inside I found four or five barstools and a kiosk to place my order. I got the feeling the menu was seasonal. Sadly, there weren't many options. So I ordered the $10 brisket platter. The brisket was delicious. However, I was a little disappointed with everything else. I tried both sauces. The barbecue sauce was very spicy. I have no idea what the white sauce was, but I'm definitely not a fan. Basically, my lunch consisted of a slice of brisket and pickles. Oy. Perhaps a catering package would've been better vs an individual lunch. read more

If you're even thinking about going to The Pit Barbecue, stop thinking and just go. I had one of the best burgers of my life here--no exaggeration. The ground brisket patty was insanely flavorful on its own, but then they added this maple bourbon bacon jam that honestly should be illegal. Sweet, smoky, savory--somehow perfectly balanced without overpowering the burger. Every bite just worked. I also grabbed a side of mac & cheese and baked beans, and they absolutely held their own. The mac & cheese was rich, creamy, and exactly what you want it to be--no dry noodles, no bland sauce. Just the perfect ratio of pasta to cheese, topped with bacon because of course it is. As it should be. The baked beans were classic but done right--sweet, hearty, and loaded with little pieces of pork that made each bite better than the last. And whatever you do... don't skip the cornbread cookie. I almost did, and that would've been a huge mistake. It's the kind of thing you order "just to try" and then immediately wish you had two. Overall: ridiculously good food, great balance of flavors, and everything tasted like it was made with actual care. We are used to TX barbecue, so it's really hard to fill those shoes. $40.00 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks and a cookie. I still encourage you to check it out, you may love or like it. The service can be better, more welcoming and asking if it's someone's first time, explain the menu, make suggestions. Lots of room for improvements. read more

Last time I had this, it was the best barbecue ever this time it was burnt and simply way too salty. I have a stomach ache. For the amount that you pay, I expect it to be not burned. This is an excellent place for Texas style bbq. I came twice for takeout for my family: once for brisket, tri tip, pulled pork, and a bunch of sides. Every single thing was good. The brisket is my favorite cut for bbq and it was so tender and flavorful. But the tri tip and pulled pork were excellent too! The next time, there was sadly no brisket, but there were ribs so I ordered tri tip again and the ribs. Sandwiches for husband and son. Again, everything was so good. The ribs were delicious and very meaty. You can taste the quality of the meat and the flavorful ness of the smoke here. For those who like sauce, there's a sweet and vinegary sauce provided on the side, as the ribs and pulled pork won't come pre-slathered or soaked in sauce. The entrance to this place is easy to miss: it's one little door in a long line of small businesses doing solar and the like. Once you're inside, you're in a clean waiting room. The back is the part the reminds me of many bbq spots in Texas - a bunch of picnic tables and wood stacked on one side. Give this place a try if you like smoked meat done well. The menu changes from one week to the next, in my experience, so not everything will be available all the time. read more

Pulled pork was great, tri-tip was delicious the rips were kind of skinny but full of flavor. Loved it. A little hard to find. I suggest the owner provide some text on yelp and website to explain how to find them. The guys who worked there were very nice/down to earth, which I like. The tri tip was a bit too tough but pulled pork was smoked well and beans, and Mac and cheese were delish. It is a small operation with picnic tables outside, but clean and relaxed. Best hidden gem in the area. This place has the BEST bbq for real. The chef is very talented in making specials and yummy food. Their "Dino ribs" are a must! And home made sauce has that insanely good kick without being too spicy. The dining area is super casual and kid friendly with even board games! My fav (besides food of course) is how easy it is to order with their big screen at the front. Perfect for take out! The owners are super friendly and accommodating. Absolutely love this spot. First time trying this place. Have heard very good things about it. I kept asking my husband if he was going the right way because the place is in a very industrial location. We had placed the order before getting there. The place is small but cozy and it smells delicious!!! The BBQ was great! Stopped in for lunch, ordered the potato salad and pulled pork sandwich. Pulled pork is easy to do wrong, but when done right, it's so dang good! And let me tell you, the pit did it right. This was easily one of, if not, the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had! The pork itself was juicy and tender, with that delicious bark on some bites! The sandi was sauced perfectly, and the coleslaw gave it that extra crunch!!!! Now, the bun was next level and brought everything together. Very good bbq!! Not a ton of great bbq places in Murrieta, but this place is awesome. Small place and a little out of the way but worth it. I had the Tri Tip sandwich, there was plenty of meat for the price. The meat was tender and smoked perfectly. Cheaper than other BBQ places in the area *cough* Destination Smokehouse *cough*, but no dip in quality or how amazing it tastes! Everyone needs to try it. Mac and cheese was super good and the pepperoncini salad was very light and refreshing. Definitely will add 2 orders of cornbread cookies next time. They were that delicious. BLOWN AWAY! We were craving BBQ tonight and found The Pit on Google Maps! My goodness!! I am so glad we did!! Having lived in TX for a while, we often crave g o o d BBQ! Finding this place that first of all is family owned, but also amazing good food made us ecstatic! When we came in, the back seating area felt so cute and totally felt like a True Texas BBQ place! I didn't know what to expect with its location being amidst mostly commercial buildings. The BBQ was incredible! We ordered brisket, pulled pork and hot links for the main, and bbq beans, mac & cheese, and corn cookies for the sides! Every bite we took we were surpirsed over and over by the taste! The tenderness of the meat, the creaminess of the Mac, the pickles onions, rolls, bbq sauce all delicious! We even had a 15 min drive home and it was still fresh and perfect tasting! Thank you guys for sharing your awesome BBQ with our family! We are excited to return again and couldn't be more pleased to brag on this great food!!!
