My husband found this little gem while surfing through social media. Immediately upon exiting the truck we were swept in by the wonderful smell of BBQ. The decor didn't disappoint, it's beautifully decorated with retro decor (love). They have a decent sized party room for those brining everyone ;) . We were greated upon walking in and immediately seated. Veronica was our server and exceeded our expectations. She helped with our menu choices and suggested her favorites. We have been coming to this place for over 25 years and we keep coming back for more. This is one of the best bar-b-que places in Chicago in our opinion. We love it. We even have bought their bar-b-que sauce to bring home. We had our usual on this stop a pulled pork deluxe sandwich, deluxe gives you Cole slaw and French fries. The pork had a nice char on it and was still juicy. They put just the right amount of their bar-b-que sauce on it. Fries were hot and the right amount of crunchy and soft. Not impressed for $9.99 The Cobb Salad was good size for $12.55. The blue cheese crumbles were bland and the garlic dressing needed more zip. Got the Monday Special Half Slab for $12.99. Sauce was delicious. I thought mine were tender and tasty but spouse thought his were a bit on the dry side. I have been to The Pit many times over the years. It probably has been five or six years since the last time I was there but nothing has changed. The BBQ is still the star. The sauce is still tangy. The portions still larger than normal for the price. The service was good. The place is brightly decorated with plenty of TVs to watch sports. The ribs were fall off the bone as usual. Good food, even better service. We went to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday after she saw an influencer rave about the place, and it deserved praise. The fried pickles are excellent. We got a few Pit Platters to try the brisket, chicken, and ribs. The brisket was my favorite; it was flavorful and a smooth eat. Great with the BBQ sauce provided. The rib meat fell right off the bone. Chicken was also good, as were the fries and the buffalo wings. An ok beer selection. Servers were friendly and helpful throughout. We can never pass up a rib place, so we decided to drop in here. So here is our review, as we had friends to rave about this place. First, the French fries were good but seemed almost cooked too hard, Ribs were however amazing and moist, Shrimp were large and good. Greek Sausage and peppers were good but our BBQ chicken kind of disappointing as some pieces were juicy and tender however the wing portion was too hard to eat and near bottom of chicken breast was dry. However the service and staff were great. We didn't get to try the pork chop yet so our next time we will try it. My wife and I have been going to the Pit Rib House since 1998 and we went to dinner Saturday 7pm and had Rib Tips and ribs/shrimp dinner. The Rib Tips were 70% fat, 15% cartilage and 15% meat. The meat was very stringy and chewy. Had to cut into tiny pieces. I am surprised that the restaurant even offers this poor quality meat. At least the waitress should warn the customers ahead of time that the rib tips tend to be fatty. The ribs that I had were black on the out side and over done. Did not look anything like the photos on the their web site. I complained twice to the waitress and once to the guy walking around asking if everything was ok. I was very disappointed. read more

I've seen this place for years and always wanted to try it. Tonight was the night. They advertise $12.99 half slabs om Monday. My son ordered the half slab, and the waitress asked what 2 sides he would like. He went with Corn on the cob and Cole slaw. I ordered the half slab as well with Cole slaw and fries. First the food. I was so disappointed in the ribs. Not only were they falling off the bone, they were almost mushy. But for $12.99, they were edible. Then the bill came. We were charged $19.99 for each half slab. I questioned the waitress, and she said that the special only includes the Texas toast and fries. I said so you're charging me $7 for 2 ounces of Cole slaw. She said she would go talk to the manager, who knows if she really did or not. Needless to say, I walked out of there very disappointed. Now I sit at home, mad at myself for not demanding to speak to the manager myself. My wife even showed her the menu from their website, and it didn't say anything about the special only including fries. Even if that's the case, why was I not just charged for a side of Cole slaw instead of $7? Needless to say, I won't be going back. So frustrated from this experience! Restaurant smells phenomenal. You could smell the barbecue and wood from your car on the street. Parking is small, but definitely worth it. Ribs are tender and barbecue sauce is great. Nice waitresses and even a different waitress made sure we had everything we need. I can't recommend this place enough. I don't live near here, but I would make the few hours drive just to come back here again. The meat quality was phenomenal. The bbq sauce was out of this world, I'm so glad they sell it because I bought some for the next time I use my smoker. It was so good I had to eat some of the ribs before I could even take this photo! I hate when you get ribs and a good majority of them is fatty and basically inedible. These were not that. Every bit of the ribs were perfectly cooked meat and every single bone was clean when I was finished. Also, their baked beans were delicious, I wish I could have taken some home with me. The food came out so quickly and the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is full of memorabilia and interesting items to look at, giving you a nice way to pass the time as you wait for your food. The prices are spot on for the portion sizes. The manager was not surprised when he was told of this quality of food sold. There is no way that this place has the great reviews. I am convinced that the reviews are phony and from the owners or workers because in both times ordering it has been consistently terrible. Food should maintain quality during ALL hours of operation. I ordered one of the family meals. I believe it was somewhere around $37. You get 2 pounds of rib tips, garlic bread, fries and coleslaw. The rib tips were great, they had a lot of flavor and the sauce was good. The fries and coleslaw was also good. I would say my only complaint was majority of the garlic bread really needed some more butter, and like some more garlic it really didn't have any flavor. I took mine to go, but the inside of the restaurant is very nice. People working the front desk are very friendly. Next time I would like to try the brisket. read more

I had the 1/4 chicken with fries and corn. The chicken was good and the barbecue sauce was good. It's a thinner, less sweet sauce. The fries were done well and tasted good dipped in the bbq sauce. The corn was just okay. It's corn season but it tasted like it was previously frozen. I will try the baked beans or coleslaw next time as you get two sides. Trying to find a restaurant in this area open til 10 on a Sunday night was a challenge. However we had a late 9p supper at the Pit. Some of my family love The Patio on Harlem near here. Personally I think it's ok but for sure their ribs aren't that good. So coming here, I wanted to try all their items but went with the Platter. We actually did 2 one had beef and the other was the pork (that was better!) We started with the fried pickles which were ok but eventually the main event came and overall here's what I thought: -The pork was good -The ribs were ok -The Texas toast was burnt -The fries were fine -The chicken was dry -The sauce stunk as it's waaaaay too watery. I would possibly come back as the staff was nice and the prices were fair. I'm giving this one less star due to the fact I saw two roaches on the way to the bathroom. Nasty. Amazing place to get some bbq. Definitely some of the best bbq sauce i've ever had top 3 without a doubt (my own recipe is #1 btw), and a cool looking restaurant. They got antique pictures all over the wall and the restaurant was very clean. I personally got a plate that came with bbq chicken, ribs, pulled pork, sweet corn, Texas toast, and a baked potato. All of it was super tasty especially with the accommodation of that bbq sauce. The ribs where fall of the bone and super tasty can't say anything more about it. Some of the best ribs i've ever had and if I come down by again 100% getting them again. The sides were pretty good and the chicken was on the dry side but it didn't really matter because the sauce was so good that it wasn't super important. The pulled pork was also really good. I went to The Pit Rib recently when visiting my sisters. We all ordered the same thing a full rack of ribs with baked potato and slaw. The ribs were good but didn't have the same taste once reheated at home. My sister mentioned the ribs were only $21.99 for a full slab but the price is for take-out the manager later said that the bill came with no sides and another kicker was there is an extra charge for cheese and bacon bits. So it turns out it's $25.99 with two sides and an extra $2.00 for the cheese and bacon bits. The best part of our experience was our server Nora, she was always around for refills and to answer any questions. They give you a lot of extra butter and sour cream for your baked potato. They have good daily specials too. read more
