We traveled from Dallas to Houston for the first time and decided to try The Pit Room BBQ because of its excellent reviews. Since we're big fans of Texas BBQ, we were excited to have dinner there and expected a great experience. The atmosphere was what you'd expect from a traditional Texas BBQ restaurant. However, there were quite a few flies around, and we had to constantly keep them away from our food, which made the dining experience less enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The brisket was extremely dry and lacked the juicy, tender texture that good Texas brisket should have. The pork ribs were also underwhelming--they mostly tasted like black pepper, with very little smoky or savory flavor coming through. We've eaten at many BBQ restaurants, including Hutchins BBQ in the Dallas area, and we've never had brisket and ribs this disappointing. I rarely leave one-star reviews, especially based on the food alone, but this meal was honestly one of the worst BBQ experiences I've had. The only positive part of our visit was that the service was fine--the staff was polite and the food came out promptly. Based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend this place, especially considering its reputation and high ratings. We left wondering how it earned such glowing reviews.

Overall, an okay BBQ restaurant. If you are used to trying good BBQ like on the Texas Monthly list, then you probably won't be impressed. I tried a little bit of everything, and the meat was honestly pretty underwhelming. I will say the price was decent, and I didn't have to wait very long on a Saturday.

Delicious barbecue! We went on a weekday for lunch and there was a short line, but it moved quickly and was not too bad. Between two people, we shared: - Three meat "dinner": We chose the brisket, pork ribs, and pork sausage. All three were excellent, but the brisket was my favorite. It was very tender without being overly fatty. The plate also came with two sides. We picked the coleslaw and mac and cheese. Both were good, but I wish I had gotten the green beans after seeing them at other tables! - Beef rib: You have to order at least one pound since the ribs are quite large. This was also delicious and definitely worth trying. Overall, a fantastic barbecue spot. I would happily come back for the brisket, beef rib, and to try some of the other items. If possible, go early or on a weekday to avoid the longer lines!

Staff was friendly, food was pretty good and overall the place has a cozy vibe. Inside there isn't a ton of seating but they do also have a bar area outside with more indoor/outdoor seating. Overall the food was good, chicken was a little dry but the brisket and elote were very good. I enjoyed the condiment bar having pickled onions ,jalapeños and more toppings.

Came here with a group of friends and decided to share the platter meal. The service was exceptionally quick, as the way to order food was a counter setup. The meats were packed with flavor, and anything with a bone was incredibly tender, practically falling off the bone. Some of the meats had a smoky flavor that added an extra dimension to the taste. The sides were equally delicious, particularly the mac and cheese. However, there were a few areas where the experience could have been improved. The tables could have been a bit larger to accommodate our group comfortably. And the interior of the restaurant could have been designed with a more barbecue-themed ambiance to enhance the overall dining experience.

Establishment is spacious and clean. Staff is professional and personable. Ordered the brisket sandwich and beef rib, everything is absolutely excellent, and they make their sausages in house. TLDR: Excellent service, excellent food, excellent establishment, great value. Would recommend!

WOW WOW WOWW the food here was so delicious. I was in town visiting a friend and this is where they recommended. We did take-out so I can't speak to the experience of eating in house, but it looked there were several seating options both indoor and outside. My wife and I shared a 3 meat dinner which comes with 2 sides. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, and turkey with potato salad and charred green beans. We also ordered an additional jalapeno cheddar sausage. Everything was so so delicious. Everything was very fresh and still hot when we got home after about a 15 minute drive. We tried the house sauce and the house mustard, both of which were delicious. The staff were kind and worked quickly. There was a line when we arrived but it moved quickly as well and luckily they had a tent outside to provide some shade in the heat for this midwest girlie who is not used to that heat in May!!! Overall would totally come back here and recommend to anyone in the area looking for good BBQ. We chose this over long long lines at Truth and honestly, I think it was the better option to make.

Super friendly staff. They make you feel very welcomed and seem to love their jobs. I appreciate this because it makes one feel at home. There's plenty of seating inside, out on the patio and the bar next door. The food is excellent and they serve my favorite, beef rib. Not all Texas BBQ places offer beef rib so this was a nice treat! We ordered beef rib, pork rib, beef brisket and pull pork. The beef rib and brisket were the favorites. Juicy and falling off the bone. Sides we had were Mac & Cheese (a definite favorite), beans, and elote. Definitely a great place when looking for Texas BBQ in Houston.

Brisket is to die for. Also highly recommend the pork jalapeño cheese sausage. The elote cups were amazing. I didn't expect it to be as spicy as it was and wished I got two servings. Mac and cheese was meh, too watery for my liking. There as a line at 3:30 pm on a Saturday but it moved on fairly quickly. Limited indoor seating.

My uber driver told me I chose well for my Houston bbq experience when I was heading to the restaurant, and I did indeed have a delicious meal. Got the one meat lunch platter which came with two sides. I chose the brisket, mac n cheese, and cole slaw. The meat was so tender and juicy, and the bbq sauce was one of the best I've had. The sides were just ok, and I wouldn't recommend the mac n cheese (too meh). I liked the pickle station they had. Counter service with tables both inside and outside. All the employees were quick but friendly.

I'm not a fan of barbecue unless it's good barbecue. Passed all the time and had been wanting to try . Uh perfection at its finest. Small place that's the only down side but there's seating outside. The food was amazing great. Worth it. Staff is courteous and pleasant. It really was so good. I had the chopped beef sauce on the side Mac& cheese and potato salad. Uh so good.

Hey y'all, I was so excited to try this barbecue place because I've been in Houston for three years and I have yet to eat barbecue. Coming from Chicago I just knew it was gonna be a tough call. Y'all know I give 100% true reviews. The food was definitely a 4 out of 10. The sausage was not good at all. The brisket was tasty. It just wasn't as tender. The rib was probably the best thing it didn't have too much flavor, but it was yummy. The macaroni was definitely a three out of 10 and the beans were also about a five out of 10. There really was no flavor to the meats. I'm a heavy cooker and I also love to barbecue, but I barely could taste the smoky flavor. We ended up not eating everything because it honestly wasn't that great however, my favorite thing was probably the rib in the brisket. I really was expecting this to be really good, but after conversing w/ a couple of other people, I heard that this is more like a Houstonian place. The service was great in the ambience was also great. They have a bar next-door that you can sit down grab your drink and go back and sit. Overall, I had fun in the experience, but I definitely are gonna have to give this a two out of five. Oh, and the barbecue sauce I'm gonna have to say no

Wanted Texan bbq one more time before flying back home and heard this place was good. Walked in and their was a long line that never actually went down the whole time we were there. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Also a full bar outside. I picked the 2 near combo and chose brisket, pork ribs with macaroni and cheese and green beans. They also ask if you want a piece of white bread. Then there is a little bar that you could grab some different type of veggies stuff and few other sauces which I grabbed pickled onions. Everything was cooked good! The macaroni was a bit too watery for my liking but still good. Enjoyed the food overall.

Ask the Community - The Pit Room - Museum District

Is this place good for a group of 16?

There aren't really many tables that will accommodate a group that large, but if you are there on an off time, you can probably make it work if you sit outdoors and get a group of tables near each other.

    Do they take apple pay?

    Not that I know

Is there any option for halal/kosher meat?

Try Chuck Wagon in Fulshear for halal beef options. I believe Killen's beef in Pearland is sourced from a farm with halal beef.

Am I able to order the dinners during lunch time? If not, what time am I able to order?

    Yes

What days do they sell Okra? (Is it discontinued?)

Every time I have went it was there.

I'm planning to order take out to bring it back to NYC. I'm planning to use a conventional oven to heat the food. Does anyone know how long and what temperature I should get it at? Will order beef ribs, pork ribs, briskets and pulled pork.

You can ask them to not preslice the brisket and you can do it yourself after you warm it up because at home to preserve some of the juices.…

Are they open on thanksgiving day?

Probably not. Best is to call and ask their holiday schedule for certainty.

Which days do they serve the Wagyu Brisket?

    Daily

Can anyone get the seafood on the weekends or is it only special order?

As long as you have the cash they have the crawfish.

Best time to go on a Sunday?

11am-12pm is the best time to beat the crowd. 12pm-3pm is cool if you don't mind waiting in line.

Anyone know if they are open this Wednesday (day after Christmas)?

Wanna try this restaurant so badly, and I have a flexible schedule, so I want to come when I can get the least wait time... when is my best bet? Thank you!:)

I have gone around 6pm on a Wednesday and didn't have a wait. Also right when they open at 11am is good. The line moves pretty fast even if there is a wait, and you may sit at the bar next door if the seating gets crowded.

Would like to bring an out of town guest here for them to get some Texas bbq, however I'm vegetarian... are the sides vegetarian friendly? The potatoes, Mac and cheese, etc?

Yes, you should have a few options. I highly recommend the corn (served with Mexican cream, queso fresco, and hot sauce), and the mac and cheese.

Do you offer military discount like Rudy's?

Yes, we do! Just show your military i.d. and the we provide your discount . Thank you for your service !

If we wanna reserve in advance for a table for 6? How is the wait during the weekend?

The lines were long but they moved quickly. Plenty of room outside on patio. Inside is a little tight. We had a party of 6 walked in on Saturday and found a table on patio

I've been here a few times before, and being a sucker for second chances, I wanted to see if things…read morehad improved from my last visit, thankfully, they have. Feels good when an establishment takes pride in their customer's feedback and puts a plan into action. Honestly, part of me was hoping that last time was just a fluke or an off day. This time around, everything from the service to the food was great. We had a 12:30 Sunday reservation for two and opted to sit inside this time. We ordered the cast-iron cornbread, chargrilled oysters, and a cup of gumbo each to start. For entrées, I had the Gulf Fish, while my husband went with the crawfish Florentine. Everything came out beautifully timed, almost like a perfectly paced three-course meal, which obviously made the whole experience feel elevated and relaxed. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and on top of everything without being overbearing. I also tried the prickly pear aid (non-alcoholic), and it was super refreshing, definitely worth ordering if you like a little tartness to cleanse your palate. Overall, this visit felt like a completely different experience than last time. It delivered the elevated experience a place like Eunice promises and what I was used to originally. Looking forward to celebrating my birthday here in June!

Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing due to both the service and the food quality. Our server was very slow throughout the evening. After ordering cocktails, it took approximately 20 minutes for them to arrive. We then ordered our meals... I had the burger and fries, while my girlfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were noticeably over salted. After finishing our meals, we waited an additional 15-20 minutes just to receive a dessert menu. Eventually, we decided not to wait any longer and went to Dessert Gallery down the street instead. While the atmosphere and appearance of the restaurant were excellent, the slow service and food issues negatively impacted the experience. Based on this visit, I would likely not return.

Listen! I know good soul food, and this spot here has "hit the spot!" But because it's Friday, it's…read moreCatfish Friday! So I quite naturally ordered the max. piece catfish (3 pc.) with fries and greens, and OMG! The flavor, the crispiness! Just like I fry it! Excellent customer service! Needless to say, this is now my "catfish spot" whenever I visit the area again. For dessert, I had the peach cobbler. Another hit! So balanced with flavor and sweetness! My family had the oxtails and blackened salmon. They are licking their fingers! Why is this place not rated a perfect 5?! You better believe they get 5 stars from me! Earned! (Sorry, I ate my fish and peach cobbler before I realized I didn't take a pic. And the presentation was magnificent on all plates!)

I ordered the turkey wings which came with rice & 2sides with cornbread. I got the black eyed peas & greens with no meat in my greens. The standout for me were the black eyed peas. They were excellent. Everything else was just ok. I liked that everything wasn't overly salty. It just lacked that extra kick. The serving sizes were pretty good & I have plenty leftovers. I would be back again to try another dish because I feel for soul food this was pretty healthy because it was overly salty.
