I had the baked wings in the traditional bbq flavor as well as the habanero lime (this flavor rocks!) overall the wings were cooked OK but the sauce seems a little bit overdone and drenched, even though the flavor of the sauces were good. The main character was definitely the pork belly, I had a side of that as well. However, the way that it looked in the takeout container was not the way that it was presented on the example picture in the app, it was definitely missing some toppings. Finally, I also tried the banana pudding. I think they overdid it with the syrup sauce at the bottom. Sometimes you just need to let the banana and the vanilla wafer shine.. I'll start with the positives. They have the BEST jalapeño cheddar sausage I've had in Houston. Honestly I would go back just for that. They have plenty of seating and the outdoor seating would be great on game day since they have a large screen. Unfortunately those are the only highlights for me. We got the 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. For sides we did the beans and brussel sprouts. You can't tell from the pics because I took them so fast but EVERYTHING was GREASY. It was like looking at an oil slick after 5 minutes. On top of it being excessively greasy, the flavor wasn't there for the brisket. It definitely needed sauce. The ribs come with a sauce already on them and it was good. The Brussel sprouts were supposed to be a "healthy" option but half the boat was full of oil. I will say we came around 7pm so maybe that's the reason everything was off but it makes me see why most bbq spots close early. Maybe it's to protect the quality of the food. Overall, a really nice BBQ spot. It doesn't have the traditional old-school Texas BBQ vibe--instead it's more modern and curated, which I actually liked. The huge covered patio has plenty of fans to keep it comfortable, a big screen for games (they had the basketball on when we visited), and the inside is spacious, clean, and has plenty of seating. The food was great. We had two pulled pork sandwiches with sides and some brisket. The meat was flavorful and lean, although it was just a little dry for my taste. Five stars for the Mac and Cheese Please! The absolute creamiest and most luscious concoction ever - perfected with chewy corkscrew pasta. It's witchcraft! The bbq sauces are really good - there is the traditional with a nice little heat to it and an awesome mustard based one as well. Very helpful and friendly staff behind the counter and on the floor. Came here after fifa fan fest since we parked right next to it. Functions as any bbq joint but it's feels like a restaurant with a bar and stuff. The decor is really matches the vibes. Plenty of large TVs. I will say my stand out was the jalapeno cheddar sausage. Might be my favorite in Houston. It actually has a kick to it and the cheese was melty and wasn't overly salty. The smash burger is a hard pass. Was kind of a mess, I couldn't even really taste the beef patty. The chicken sandwich was excellent and refreshing after being under the Texas sun for hours. Fries and onion rings were crispy. Ribs fell off the bone. Sides were as expected and not bland. I think the ice cream is free if you eat there bc I didn't see it on menu. Walked in and went right into the line. It's like a typical bbq place cafeteria style set up where you pick all your items so you can put on your tray and go. All the meats were cooked perfectly. The meats were cooked perfectly all hot and fresh. There was about 6 or so sides to choose from with desserts and ice cold drinks. I'm not a huge meat eater, so I'm not their ideal customer. But with protein intake being on everyone's minds these days, I've turned to some local barbecue spots to fill up on chicken and turkey (damn, I miss brisket but I just can't bring myself to eat those gentle giants). My beau loves it here and can and will order everything off their menu. He's yet to veer into their creative dishes (like brisket lasagna) and tends to stick with meat plates and sides. I like the barbecue, but I'm more of a sides gal. But a lot of their sides have pork in it (another thing I don't eat). The staff is good about informing me what's pork or lard-free. Leave me limited to chicken, turkey... and adult drinks! Not gonna hate on that. I'll take some smoked turkey with a side of pinot please. They have a great brunch that goes til 3pm--place should be more packed than it usually is, especially with all that free parking, an outdoor area with occasional live music, TVs, kid- and dog-friendly environment. We got a 4 meat plate so we could try multiple things: brisket, sausage, chicken, and ribs. We also got an order of smoked wings. We tried the Mac n cheese, Brussel sprouts, beans and corn. J Bar M BBQ has been killing it. They were featured in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide. They also made the honorable mention list for the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas. The food here is incredible. I love the fatty brisket. I enjoyed the burnt ends. The sausage was really good as well. The food was outstanding, and on a nice weather day in Houston (mid 70s), sitting outside on the patio to watch a football game was perfect. I had the three meat platter with spicy cheddar sausage, turkey, and ribs. Everything was great. I had asked for mild sausage, but I don't think he heard me and didn't realize I had the spicy until I was seated outside. As it ended up, as long as I took a bite of mac & cheese with each bite of sausage, it was fine. First let me say my taste buds comes a place of a little place in Sequin called Burnt Bean or Austin la Barbecue or Terry Black. Now overall we were disappointed. Food: Brisket not competition quality (bend and easy tear apart). My brisket had a great smoke ring and flavor but I needed my fork to cut (really disappointed). My corn was good with a little kick but with like 3 forks left I found looks like an eyelash in the corn. I reported it to the front cashier and a taller guy and they gave me a new corn ( I didn't eat why because it came from the same batch as my original corn). Pinto beans were basic no added ingredients (ie brisket). Chicken was dry in itself but better with BBQ sauce. Jalapeño cheese sausage was pretty good but not allota juice once you bite. Potato salad again good but we didn't get excited. Lastly we in Texas right? Our plates didn't come with Texas toast nor pickles. Overall room for improvements. Service: This was our second time. Have not been smothered in a while. We were kinda not sure but the guy slicing the meats was not the nicest. Was really pushy and impatient. A recent obsession of mine is BBQ. It has always been a Texas thing, but in recent years with Texas finally getting covered by the Michelin Guide, we are getting more exposure to some great places in the state. This place just happens to be a part of the 2025 Michelin Guide. J-Bar-M is relatively new on the scene so I was more than excited to check this spot out with some fellow BBQ junkies like myself. The restaurant is located in EaDo but have a decent sized parking lot with free parking. If you come at peak times, you may have to pay for street parking around the area. We came at opening on a Saturday so parking was plentiful and we were the first folks in the door. We were hoping to take advantage of the last beautiful weather weekend before the heat hits, but the NCAA Sweet 16 was taking place in Houston and Iowa fans rented the patio out. All good! Atleast they still had a dog in the fight. The outside and inside spaces of this place is beautiful. It's definitely the fanciest BBQ joint I've been to. They have a big space inside as well as the patio and other smaller areas available to rent out as well. They have a full service bar inside and outside. They do counter service here. We were early so there was no line, but as the day went on, the line grew bigger and the dining areas inside and out got packed. Customer service was ok, nothing to write home about. Staff behind the counter was inattentive and I had to ask for things multiple times. I've been spoiled at recent BBQ places I've visited where customer service was top notch. We came in a group of 8. Usually four of us order together and get a variety of things since most places don't offer plates. Well this place does so we went with individual orders. I went with a three meat plate with brisket, jalapeno cheddar sausage and pork ribs. It came with two sides so I went with jambalaya rice and mac and cheese. I found it odd that online nor on their menu at the restaurant you can not find their side offerings. When you get to that part of the line, then you can pick from what you see. I like to go in with a game plan so points taken off for that. Our whole table got a variety of things so I did get to try quite a bit of their menu. Lets start with the meat. I asked for lean and moist brisket. The lean was a bit dry. The moist was perfect. They seasoned their meat well in everything I tried. The sausage was one of the better sausages I've had in awhile. The sides were ok. The rice was my favorite among all the sides I tried. Their brussels sprouts had alot of potential but it need a little more time on the cook. Crispy would have made it top notch. I will say, in all the foods I tried, I do wish the temps were a little hotter. Everything was a little on the lukewarm side. I saw bread pudding on the menu and a general rule of mine is never say no to bread pudding if it's on a menu. I do wish they brought it out later in the meal just so it would have been a little warmer, but it was still a very good bread pudding. We also tried the cinnamon roll and banana pudding. They do desserts well here. The first thing I saw when I pulled up was a sign showing their drink specials. I wasn't planning on drinking but I couldn't pass up a $5 margarita either. It was a little saltier than I like, but still good for the price paid. Overall, J-Bar-M is a solid place. I like the fact that they are smack dab in the middle of the city, easily accessible with a great parking situation, plenty of space to entertain and long hours. We went all in with the brisket, turkey, sausage, and ribs, and honestly there wasn't a weak link on the tray. The brisket had that beautiful bark with a smoky aroma that hits you before the first bite--tender, juicy, and exactly what you hope for when ordering Texas brisket. The turkey was surprisingly flavorful and moist (a lot of places miss the mark on turkey, but not here). The sausage brought a great snap with a peppery kick, and the ribs were perfectly cooked with just the right pull from the bone. The street corn side deserves its own shout-out. It's fairly priced (all BBQ is expensive nowadays) and everything is tasty. Is it the best brisket in Houston? Probably not, but it's still good. Their chicken did really standout though. The sides are good too, just not super memorable. I appreciate that there's not a super long line (at least when I've gone), they have great indoor and outdoor dining areas, a nice bar, and even a mini dog park. Came with my husband for lunch and was excited to see they served brunch as well! The building did have limited parking, we think they may have been having a private event later that day. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the inside, its a large open building with very clean decor. They have indoor and outdoor seating perfect for a date or taking a large group. The staff was super friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly if you are ordering food that does not come right off the bbq line. My husband really enjoyed the brisket, cheddar jalapeño sausage, Mac n cheese and corn. He said the sausage had a great spicy kick and the corn had lots of flavor. As I walk up to the ordering counter, a large party is exiting a private side room. I must have gotten lost in the shuffle, because as I let people pass, I see all the workers leave to go behind the kitchen. I'm not sure if it was a staff meeting or shift change, but I can't find anyone to help me. I wait about 3-5 minutes before a young man pops his head around the corner and apologizes for keeping me waiting. I order a couple of ribs and the fatty brisket tacos (hoping for anything in the same universe as the now closed Valentina's), with sides of cream corn, Mac n cheese, and charro beans. The ribs actually tasted decent, slightly sweet with a good pull and texture, except they were cold. I'm talking not even lukewarm. And just like Luke, these babies also could have used a tauntaun to warm them up. Things only went downhill from there. The Mac n cheese was nothing to write home about and the cream corn was bland. After a few minutes, the brisket tacos were delivered to my table. By now I'm barreling down a double black diamond. The brisket is dry, tough, and most sinfully, flavorless. How flavorless? Well, I can't taste the brisket over the tortilla, which also doesn't taste great. How does a tortilla over power the flavor of smoked brisket?? The indoor and outdoor seating is super spacious, and the food was on point! We got the four meat platter with brisket, pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and pork ribs. For sides, we got the Mac and cheese, jambalaya, and collards. The Mac and cheese and pulled pork were by far our favorite. The brisket unfortunately didn't taste the freshest and was a little dry, but the barbecue sauce was perfect and helped keep everything nice and moist. We went on a weekday during lunchtime. No wait. Staff was super friendly. Special shout out to the awesome staff member who gave my kids $1 each in celebration of the lunar new year! Yeah! It set a great tone for our visit. We ordered the lean brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork and turkey. The brisket had a good bark and was well seasoned. Great set of food here. Definitely one of the better BBQ mac and cheeses Ive ever had. The corn and potato salad were also spectacular. The side showed out the most to me here. The food was a bit lukewarm and its a bit pricey compared to most other bbq places. read more

Amazing bbq. The brisket and ribs were tender enough to cut with a plastic knife. Even the next day. The sauce on the side was tasty and the brussel sprouts were 10/10. The Mac and cheese was a little bland but everything else was really good. Customer service was a little lacking. Ordered a drink before I went to get food and it hadn't even been started after 10 minutes of standing in line for food. The customer service at the bar and so/so mac n cheese are the reasons I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Still, I would definitely come back if in the area. read more
