That's what you do when you visit Texas... BBQ! This place was nicely decorated and heard that it can get crowded but we went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't bad. The food was great, my fav was the brisket and the sides were all good...creamy corn with jalapeño, green beans, Mac and Cheese and Brussels sprouts. Free ice cream too!

Just going to be honest. I did not like anything at this place. The food was not good. Everything about it was mediocre. We got a 4 meat plate so we could try multiple things: brisket, sausage, chicken, and ribs. We also got an order of smoked wings. We tried the Mac n cheese, Brussel sprouts, beans and corn. And I hate to say it but it was all a waste. There's wasn't much flavor besides pepper. The service wasn't that great either. There was a guy behind the counter that was so rude that I almost left the line because of him. Honestly, when there's never a line out the door for the bbq it's a sign. I won't be coming back here unfortunately. I really wanted to like this place

The bbq sauce and the mustard were very tasty.

First let me say that the people are really nice and the service was pretty good. However, the food just didn't hit the spot. I had the brisket which was very fatty, the pork ribs which were ok but lacked flavor and the jalapeño/cheddar sausage which was very good. The sides were pretty bland also. I had the rice with beans on top and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were ok.. but the rice with beans needed some seasoning. Idk, there were a lot of people at this place that really looked like they were enjoying their food so maybe it was just an off day for me.

A recent obsession of mine is BBQ. It has always been a Texas thing, but in recent years with Texas finally getting covered by the Michelin Guide, we are getting more exposure to some great places in the state. This place just happens to be a part of the 2025 Michelin Guide. J-Bar-M is relatively new on the scene so I was more than excited to check this spot out with some fellow BBQ junkies like myself. The restaurant is located in EaDo but have a decent sized parking lot with free parking. If you come at peak times, you may have to pay for street parking around the area. We came at opening on a Saturday so parking was plentiful and we were the first folks in the door. We were hoping to take advantage of the last beautiful weather weekend before the heat hits, but the NCAA Sweet 16 was taking place in Houston and Iowa fans rented the patio out. All good! Atleast they still had a dog in the fight. The outside and inside spaces of this place is beautiful. It's definitely the fanciest BBQ joint I've been to. They have a big space inside as well as the patio and other smaller areas available to rent out as well. They have a full service bar inside and outside. They do counter service here. We were early so there was no line, but as the day went on, the line grew bigger and the dining areas inside and out got packed. Customer service was ok, nothing to write home about. Staff behind the counter was inattentive and I had to ask for things multiple times. I've been spoiled at recent BBQ places I've visited where customer service was top notch. We came in a group of 8. Usually four of us order together and get a variety of things since most places don't offer plates. Well this place does so we went with individual orders. I went with a three meat plate with brisket, jalapeno cheddar sausage and pork ribs. It came with two sides so I went with jambalaya rice and mac and cheese. I found it odd that online nor on their menu at the restaurant you can not find their side offerings. When you get to that part of the line, then you can pick from what you see. I like to go in with a game plan so points taken off for that. Our whole table got a variety of things so I did get to try quite a bit of their menu. Lets start with the meat. I asked for lean and moist brisket. The lean was a bit dry. The moist was perfect. They seasoned their meat well in everything I tried. The sausage was one of the better sausages I've had in awhile. The sides were ok. The rice was my favorite among all the sides I tried. Their brussels sprouts had alot of potential but it need a little more time on the cook. Crispy would have made it top notch. I will say, in all the foods I tried, I do wish the temps were a little hotter. Everything was a little on the lukewarm side. I saw bread pudding on the menu and a general rule of mine is never say no to bread pudding if it's on a menu. I do wish they brought it out later in the meal just so it would have been a little warmer, but it was still a very good bread pudding. We also tried the cinnamon roll and banana pudding. They do desserts well here. The first thing I saw when I pulled up was a sign showing their drink specials. I wasn't planning on drinking but I couldn't pass up a $5 margarita either. It was a little saltier than I like, but still good for the price paid. Overall, J-Bar-M is a solid place. I like the fact that they are smack dab in the middle of the city, easily accessible with a great parking situation, plenty of space to entertain and long hours. They also have brunch on the weekends with bottomless mimosa deals that I would love to come check out. I will definitely be back.

I walked past this on my way from the restroom - nice!

The food was outstanding, and on a nice weather day in Houston (mid 70s), sitting outside on the patio to watch a football game was perfect. I had the three meat platter with spicy cheddar sausage, turkey, and ribs. Everything was great. I had asked for mild sausage, but I don't think he heard me and didn't realize I had the spicy until I was seated outside. As it ended up, as long as I took a bite of mac & cheese with each bite of sausage, it was fine. The turkey was smoky and tender, and the ribs were amazing - no sauce needed, because the rub stood alone. Besides the Mac & cheese I had the cauliflower au gratin, and it was perfect. The bartender, Aran, makes a perfect Manhattan. It was a lovely day. We look forward to coming back next time we're in town visiting family, as we do often.

First let me say my taste buds comes a place of a little place in Sequin called Burnt Bean or Austin la Barbecue or Terry Black. Now overall we were disappointed. Food: Brisket not competition quality (bend and easy tear apart). My brisket had a great smoke ring and flavor but I needed my fork to cut (really disappointed). My corn was good with a little kick but with like 3 forks left I found looks like an eyelash in the corn. I reported it to the front cashier and a taller guy and they gave me a new corn ( I didn't eat why because it came from the same batch as my original corn). Pinto beans were basic no added ingredients (ie brisket). Chicken was dry in itself but better with BBQ sauce. Jalapeño cheese sausage was pretty good but not allota juice once you bite. Potato salad again good but we didn't get excited. Lastly we in Texas right? Our plates didn't come with Texas toast nor pickles. Overall room for improvements. Service: This was our second time. Have not been smothered in a while. We were kinda not sure but the guy slicing the meats was not the nicest. Was really pushy and impatient. Not did he at least say your first time here etc or suggestion. Front line person did come and pick up my hair corn container and apologized. Ambiance: Awesomeness! How can you not when Santa is getting a drink. The Texas game playing inside and out. The decor is Texas BBQ. Totally love the murals bd we did eventually find parking on the back side (car show) Overall not sure if we will come back ( maybe 1 more time) For the price did not meet the quality of food of what we know to be true Texas BBQ. Definitely room for improvement. If I had to refer I would have a hard time, but I do like people to judge themselves. This is just my experience this day.

Houston has no shortage of BBQ spots, so when a place stands out, you know they're doing something right. J&M BBQ delivered a proper Texas spread that checked all the boxes for a serious meat lover. We went all in with the brisket, turkey, sausage, and ribs, and honestly there wasn't a weak link on the tray. The brisket had that beautiful bark with a smoky aroma that hits you before the first bite--tender, juicy, and exactly what you hope for when ordering Texas brisket. The turkey was surprisingly flavorful and moist (a lot of places miss the mark on turkey, but not here). The sausage brought a great snap with a peppery kick, and the ribs were perfectly cooked with just the right pull from the bone. The street corn side deserves its own shout-out. Creamy, slightly smoky, and loaded with flavor--basically the side dish you keep going back for between bites of brisket. They also offer two house BBQ sauces, each bringing something different to the table. One leans a little sweeter and balanced, while the other brings more tang and punch. Mixing and matching them with the different meats makes the whole tray even better. If you're in Houston and chasing great BBQ, J&M BBQ is definitely worth pulling over for. Solid meats, great sides, and the kind of spot that makes you feel like you found a local gem.

Worth it for the price point. The vibes are it- I loved the outdoor patio/shed! We came on a weekday night so it wasn't busy at all, but I got the 4 meat platter which was $33 (?) and it's definitely more than enough for two people. My favorites were the pork ribs, which were tender and fell right off the bone, and the brisket which was juicy and not too fatty. The turkey was also juicy and awesome! I thought the sides were also delicious.

Michelin Stars in Houston?? Nice! Added to the list of Michelin Star so I had to go and try it. It was good. Better than Rudy's. The BBQ sauce was spicy and I did not like the brussel sprouts. I did enjoy the brisket. The ambiance was nice and relaxed. They had a live band and the girl was a great singer. Note they do run out of meat sometimes, so go early if you want to try everything.

I enjoyed my visit and would definitely return to sit outside and enjoy the weather, though this isn't the best BBQ I've had. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating, great views, a DJ, a dance floor, and a TV outside. There's even cornhole, making it a fun spot to hang out. The drinks at the bar were strong and delicious -- a real highlight. The food was good overall, though it fell a bit short of my expectations given the online buzz and Michelin review. The sides definitely stole the show. The Brussels sprouts, corn, and mac & cheese were all delicious, and the potato salad looked amazing -- it's hard to pick from their variety of sides. The brisket lasagna was also really good. I didn't try dessert this time, but the bread pudding looked fantastic -- I'll be back for it, along with other kitchen items like their Tex-Mex dishes rather than just the BBQ. The smoked turkey was moist and well-seasoned, but the brisket was quite salty and a bit dry. The BBQ sauce didn't work for me -- oddly smoky with sweetness added afterward, not the sweet BBQ flavor I usually enjoy.

BEST brisket I've ever had. I had to get extra to go. Melts in your mouth tender, perfectly seasoned, not too woody/smoky... just perfect. Chicken was extremely moist. Service was super fast and everyone was super attentive. Their sides were very tasty. The ambiance is super fun, they play fun Ranchero style music(?) will definitely come back!!!!

I don't hand out 1 star reviews lightly, but with my experience, J-Bar-M more than earned it. I arrived around 1:45pm to a restaurant that was nearly empty. Already we're off to a bad start. As I walk up to the ordering counter, a large party is exiting a private side room. I must have gotten lost in the shuffle, because as I let people pass, I see all the workers leave to go behind the kitchen. I'm not sure if it was a staff meeting or shift change, but I can't find anyone to help me. I wait about 3-5 minutes before a young man pops his head around the corner and apologizes for keeping me waiting. I order a couple of ribs and the fatty brisket tacos (hoping for anything in the same universe as the now closed Valentina's), with sides of cream corn, Mac n cheese, and charro beans. The ribs actually tasted decent, slightly sweet with a good pull and texture, except they were cold. I'm talking not even lukewarm. And just like Luke, these babies also could have used a tauntaun to warm them up. Things only went downhill from there. The Mac n cheese was nothing to write home about and the cream corn was bland. After a few minutes, the brisket tacos were delivered to my table. By now I'm barreling down a double black diamond. The brisket is dry, tough, and most sinfully, flavorless. How flavorless? Well, I can't taste the brisket over the tortilla, which also doesn't taste great. How does a tortilla over power the flavor of smoked brisket?? Finally, I attempted to change it up for my taste buds by trying the charro beans. This was a fine test for my gag reflex as the beans were rancid/burned and I nearly spit them out. How this place ended up on Michelin's radar is beyond me. J Bar M was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, Bar None

We came here for our team dinner of 55 people and it was great! They had a cute outdoor area with a stage and dj in the evening. Since there were so many people that came from the robotics competition there was not a lot of options left in the evening. I wanted the bbq brisket and ribs. Their only option left were brisket, chicken and pulled pork. So I got the brisket and chicken. Everything was bursting with flavors. It was a great evening our team will never forget.

The ambiance was great for the holiday they had themed drinks and specials going on, which added a fun touch and made it feel festive without being chaotic. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for somewhere social but still comfortable. The drinks were good, and overall the vibe was on point. It felt like a place you could hang out for a while, whether you're there to celebrate something or just have a few drinks with friends. One thing to note is they don't serve food, I did hear they rotate food trucks at times, but none were there when we went which was a bit of a downside, but they did allow us to bring in outside food, which honestly made up for it and gave us more options. Parking wasn't too bad when we went, and since it wasn't super packed, everything felt smooth and easy. Overall, great vibes, good drinks, and a fun place. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a casual hangout or social night out.

Social Beer Garden just doesn't do it for me. I've been once or twice years ago and recently…read moredecided to give it another try, hoping for a different experience, but unfortunately I still left unimpressed. To start out, the concept feels like a blend of accents from other popular bars in the area - the hammock chairs from Axelrad, the Adirondack chairs from Truck Yard, and the string light back patio from 8th Wonder. This blend makes it hard to give the bar a true identity. While they do have a large selection of beers on tap, their cocktail menu leaves me feeling lost. I appreciate the attempt to create unique flavor combinations but the options are just...confusing. For example, mezcal with citrus and prickly pear, or a highball with black currant, tequila and apricot. I'm holding on for dear life with all of these ingredients! Going along for the adventure, I tried their pickle cocktail that was on the menu and it was honestly, terrible. While they do have a happy hour that goes until 8pm, the service this last visit just wasn't the best. The server who helped me told me it was his second day and was clearly struggling to keep up with the cocktail combinations, referencing his phone many times while preparing the drink. I ended up not liking this drink and brought it back to the bar with just one sip gone and rather than offering to make me another drink, they kept it on my bill. Ok, whatever. That being said, just before this happened, the couple in front of me went to pay for their bill, prepared drinks in hand, at 8:02pm and the bartender refused to honor the happy hour prices, just two minutes past the official end time. With these two instances, it seems like the priority is maximizing every dollar of profit rather than investing in the customer experience. Given the number of other original concepts in the area, I would pass.
